The reason why I like Shylily is because her model is adorable, and her playfulness nature is somewhat calming to watch plus with her marketable ideas and funny friends it's always going to be a treat to sit back and enjoy the show. Her WOMP WOMP are just plain adorable to listen to and reply back with them.

Another thing you havent covered is that Lily is incredibly brand-safe. I dunno if thats just intuition or if she has a very solid business/marketing-sense in those regards. I havent seen her involved in any kind of serious drama and she actively avoids it (like in the Veibae situation or when she dodged the Hogwarts drama). She focuses on the funny and positive. You usually only see her comment under positive posts or when she is trying to cheer someone up. Something that you can see with many Vtubers around her as well and what seems to be a good pull factor, because people that search for positive vibes will find them in her clips and streams and dont get surprised every few weeks by their source of positivity (Lily) malding about things, like it is the case for many others. Also she has that typical german energy. Unless it would have negative consequences, she is straight and honest about most things and with her community. Also there is a certain pain-freeness (i dont know how you would translate "Schmerzfrei" into english. xD ), so her level of surface-level shame is way lower than with most people that live in a culture where it is more common to "save face" (Asia, USA, etc.) and therefore many stories are kinda unhinged and she has a humor that probably feels refreshing for many people. I think all that is a mixture that works very well for her.

the closest translation of 'schmerzfrei' that I can think of is 'shameless' or 'shame-free', though shameless holds a slightly negative connotation to it so I don't know if it'd be a very good translation, as I do not know the cultural connotations that come with schmerzfrei.

I've always hated the concept that people get big because of luck. Shylily is incredibly entertaining and you can tell she put in the work to get where she is. And she's still putting in the work, otherwise her retention and engagement would suffer. I love watching and analyzing bigger VTubers because there's always something to learn from them.
@Cosmic_Tori
@Cosmic_Tori 3 месяца назад
@@A_Caat I'm gonna have to disagree on this one. I have a lot of male vtuber friends who are consistently putting in the work to be engaging and entertaining and I have seen them growing and their hard work paying off. Admittedly I don't have any friends who are Twitch Partners (male or female), but I've seen them go from brand new to Affiliate and beyond, hosting successful events and having a loyal community in a relatively short span of time, and I'm sure that if they continue to put that level of effort and research into what they're doing, they'll continue to grow. Twitch's top streamers are male, and Vtubers are just streamers with a virtual avatar.

@@A_Caat They're actual viewers that want to watch them because they're entertaining. A mix between male and female. There might be one or two female Vtubers watching them, but mostly their community is just people who like the content.
@Cosmic_Tori
@Cosmic_Tori 3 месяца назад
@@A_Caat I have to wonder if these female vtubers were streaming consistently, promoting on Twitter perhaps, had Discords or any other way to interact with their audience. Like how did these clippers find them if they weren't putting in any effort to market themselves? Because the Twitch algorithm doesn't just magically push you to viewers as a small streamer. And how did they retain all those viewers from those clips over time? I'm assuming they learned to be entertaining and consistent and continue to market themselves.
@Cosmic_Tori
@Cosmic_Tori 3 месяца назад
@@A_Caat Aww man I guess I have to resign my female vtuber title immediately because I watch and learn a lot from my male vtuber friends and they all rely on their sense of humor, interactive features on stream or entertainment value rather than a bfe. It's also curious how you said luck only happens to male vtubers and then also commented about a female vtuber getting lucky (surely she didn't network, it was just luck). And being friends with a rigger I've seen tons of female vtubers quit shortly after getting fancy models because they didn't reach the success they hoped they'd get from aesthetics alone (who'd have known you have to work hard and smart, I guess). Let's agree to disagree, I suppose.

This. Surrounding yourself with certian influences I had learned the hard way as well, but suprsingly not because of Vtubing. It was the writing community and the TTRPG community. The seprating myself from the negative influences in the Vtubing was *after* I realized the toxicity I was noticing in the other two that I had to pull myself away and had me communicate more with Yam Albat's community, which brought me even *more* realization of what I was missing and I'm reconnecting with my IRL friends again after getting out which had us looking into the connection of Vtuber and k-pop idol similarties with agencies and why it's been a good thing that indie vtubers are breaking from that toxic mold. I also started reading more after I broke myself out of that toxic world where I'm enjoying buddy reads and all that. Shylily had always intrested me because of her energy, I don't normally watch her content but I enjoyed a lot of her clips on youtube and Yam's discord server was so kind and understanding in explaining to me about the New debuting trailer video and why it was a big deal and her *actual* history as a vtuber. I wouldn't say I have an Oshi persay, but I do look up to Shylily as a postive influence as an indie. Ironmouse is a close second but within the agency sphere. I will say that I've been happier and able to cope with a lot of the stress I've been going through because with the better influences.

If a vtuber can't figure out why successful vtubers are successful, then maybe that's why they aren't successful. It's the same in every industry. To be a success yourself, you don't _have_ to stand on the shoulders of those who came before, but at least allow yourself to understand how they became successful, otherwise, how are you going to navigate your own self to success?
@s_factor_sam
@s_factor_sam 3 месяца назад
Absolutely a valid point. For us male EN vtubers, the problem is that there are fewer viable examples of successful vtubers who came before, as we simply can't do the same stuff that successful female vtubers have done and get anywhere close to the same results. There are no proven templates yet, especially outside of Niji EN and Holostars EN, which both still have some big issues. Those of the former being more related to its management and talents, those of the latter being the sizeable unicorn/man-hating portion of the audience of their sister branch (whom hate the guys for just existing under the employ of the same company.) Yeah, First Stage Productions has emerged, but it has yet to become firmly established. And Brave group only hires men in one of their branches. Also, we even fewer good examples to learn from in the indie scene. Especially if you omit the guys who already had a large audience outside the vtuber scene before becoming vtubers (which is the case for most successful male vtubers). We've got Shxtou and that's about it. Even then, many guys like myself aren't willing or able to be like him. So we're just flying blind, grasping in the dark to find ANYTHING that will work and help us grow to a sustainable level.

Well said, that successful creators are succeeding for a reason. It is far too easy to be bitter and dismissive of people doing better than us who are doing it in a way we perceive as "bad", but there really is a lot to learn in watching successful creators and streamers to see what it is that they're doing. Some of the best "it's just some guy reacting/playing a game, why does anyone watch him???" streamers are absolute goddamn pros at baiting their chat into reactions, guiding the vibes into something interesting, and making it all look like they're just some regular goober with a mic and a camera. There's a LOT to learn if one cares to stop and really analyze and look past one's own biases.

It takes a great deal of self awareness and reflection to realize that you are judging someone or something because of negative associations rather than actually judging them by their merits. It's really great that you realized that the negativity was dragging you down. I think Shylily is a fantastic creator and is incredibly skilled. I don't watch her super often, but she's such a bright personality, and I have always loved that advice about using your model well. She's really a great role model, and so are you. This was absolutely something that held me back a ton as well. I think it's absolutely some of the best advice you can give to another creator especially with all the mindset pitfalls you get get stuck in like dealing with envy, viewer counts, getting hate, etc (which is all topic you could probs cover)

Hey, great video. Can you make such an analysis of a big male indie VTuber? A lot of ShyLily's amazing allure is her feminine side and behavior (model movement, model actions [blushing, heart eyes,..], feminine reacting, female playfulness, borderline lewdness, etc) that would simply not track as a male VTuber. The biggest amount of VTuber audience is male and they look for entirely different things in a male VTuber than a female one. If you could make such a video i'd be super grateful, since your ShyLily analysis is so great :)

I feel like the message of "You should give someone a chance before making assumptions" kinda feels mute when earlier in the video you suggest people who don't like shylily's content do so because they're jealous that people don't watch theirs. Like for me I don't really have any feelings towards Shylily in general, I just don't like react content since I'd much rather watch the video they're reacting to instead of someone else reacting for me. Also what does it mean to be "the perfect embodiment of an anime girl reacting to things" actually?

I think her point is that Shylily's content is, if you watch it, objectively entertaining, and the people that she used to hang out with that trashed on her were probably insecure. In general, the kind of person that's quick to shit on other people is doing it because they feel bad about themselves. It's not an 'assumption' when you've known the people in question for a while and can get a good gauge on the reasons for their behavior. It is an assumption to presume that Shylily's only popular because she's got a wiggly-jiggly model and something-something-slut-shaming.

Likewise those who don't find her entertaining could also list a number of reasons why they don't enjoy her stuff. This following paragraph, in Finnish translates awfully in English, so, I will explain it instead. We Finns have saying regarding toxic behavior and slowly conforming to it when it is group wide. Seura tekee kaltaisekseen. The more you interact with certain community that holds a specific view about something, you will slowly adopt that mentality or at least small bits of it at a time. When you are in negative community, and you realize it, it's time to book it. And try to get rid of those habits you consider bad which you adopted overtime interacting with the community. How to avoid this? Establish a healthy sense of self. Now, I will be going to mutter about how badly word, itsetunto is translated to English... Her models have also gotten consistently better, as has her control of them. I've only been watching her since she was using her _Nekopara_ inspired model. So not since the start. She can often talk about strange of uncomfortable things, but the way she handles them ends up making me think that maybe these are things we don't have to be uncomfortable with. It's super disingenuous when write off the hard work of successful content creators all due to luck. I mean so much really goes into the process with marketing/networking, creating content, and figuring those things out. I will say though that I usually consider luck as more of an x-factor that plays a part in success and pushes you over the hump. Now whether someone is able to capitalize on this is dependent on them.

@@brandonhowell5096 must've seen how some vtubers jiggles "match IRL physics"... With that said, those physics are over the top.. Sometimes.. But if they are to you, you're in the wrong neighborhood. Jiggly wigglys are in demand on both virtual and non-virtual streaming spaces. Horny mofos................... xD

Honestly, I'm just not a fan of her because of how much she leans into lewdness. And that IS a big dealbreaker for me, on principle, no matter how much I'd probably enjoy their personality otherwise. It inherently places her on the diametrically opposite side of the vtuber scene from me and makes her part of the larger subset that results in viewers bringing expectations of such to the chats of those of us who are anti/non-lewd. Which has caused discomfort, frustration, harassment, and violation of said vtubers' boundaries when viewers of people like Shylily innevitably find their way to the stream of a vtuber who isn't willing to be lewd. It IS a problem that lewd vtubers indirectly cause by occupying the same platforms as non-lewd ones while also outnumbering us, drowning us out, and using terms like "seiso" and "family friendly" ironically/disingenuously. Which isolates us non-lewd vtubers and makes such terms unreliable for our potential audience to find us (as I've seen viewers with an aversion to lewdness lament how often they've went to a stream with the "seiso" tag only to be unpleasantly met with lewd behavior). Also, doing react content on the entirety of videos made by other creators is unethical. Full stop. Its leeching off of the work of someone else by providing a substitute of the original while using "transformative" as a shield. The only times it IS ethical are if you only react to a small portion of the work and encourage your viewers to go to the original if they want to see the rest of it, or if what you're reacting to is marketing material since you're also providing more advertising.

Sad thing is Gura wanted to do reaction content during free time from playinggames and "homework", but viewers said "no".

Let's be real. Success in content creation is 10% hard work, 60% who you know, and 30% being obedient and Message compliant. It isn't what it was in 2015, and nobody new is gonna break into fame unless they're sponsored.

"Everything reminds you of something" is a great outro catchphrase, & "baka" is a catchphrase I know is kinda common, yet the way you say it, that word is just associated with you, in my mind. It doesn't hurt to come up with new catchphrases, however. It's great to have more than 1-2, if you can think of them. Speaking of which, could you do a vid on the origin of your outro catchphrase? It sounds like it would be great lore for your model/channel. I love Shylily, but idk if I could ever be as bouncy & active with my future model as she is, but I at least won't be just sitting there, staring blankly at the screen, doing no movement at all. When I first heard about how much she paid for her model, my stomach sank. I feared I would never get to have my own model, if that's how much they costed on average, for a good model...but then I saw a couple vids talking about how to get/create models for far cheaper, without compromising quality, & that's how I found you & your helpful vids, as well. You & a few others have definitely helped to quell that fear. So thank you for becoming a creator, & making such helpful Vtuber guide vids!
