I dumped it out less then 200 miles on it and changed over to 100% synthetic amsoil diesel oil and ticking went away instantly!!!! I even have a video on my phone of the stupid noise it was making.

It’s actually the high pressure fuel injection pump and the reason you hear it is these engines are super quiet
@landybob8393
@landybob8393 Год назад
Sorry but that’s not what it is. It’s broken rocker arms. I can say this because I heard the sound for a year then after replacing injectors we removed valve covers and found three broken rocker arms. Truck hasn’t made that sound since. If you remove the valve covers you’ll see a few push rods sticking up past the rocker arms

Ain’t no way I’ve been driving for 200000 miles with a broken rocker arm! Oh and I gets better as the oil gets older, it’s always worse right after you change the oil. Try again
@HSKFabrications
@HSKFabrications 8 месяцев назад
Both wrong, the typewriter noise is the rear crank thrust washer. It sits in between the crank and block with play, which is why the sound is random. It's a non-issue.
@larrymarcum1673
@larrymarcum1673 8 месяцев назад
Why is it related to oil change if it’s a thrust washer? And if you say it has nothing to do with the oil change you are wrong as it is proven by many, many people that when you change your oil is when it’s at its worst?

I read about this noise being oil sensitive, so I added some marvel mystery oil to the crankcase to see if the noise would change any. Much to my surprise, I started back up and noise was completely gone! 2014 powerstroke 318,000 miles.

I have 75,000 miles on my 15'. Changed the oil on Sunday and the noise showed up on Monday morning for the first time. The noise isn't there when the engine is dead cold, when the oil temp reached 107 degrees it mysteriously appears. Once the truck is up to full temp (195ish oil temp) it's disappears. Curious why it decided to present itself after 75K.

I just hit 80K on my 2015 6.7. The tap sound just started on mine, once it warms up. I don’t know if it’s coincidental or not but the engine light came on at the same time. Two days after, I get a recall for a ECM update. I’ve got it scheduled for the recall and will update when I get it looked at.

The answer you provide is the “Ford” keep the customers quiet answer. The fact of the matter , the actual cause is as follows. This type writer sound is reported by folks who change their oil, why? New oil has no soot . In old oil, the soot is carried by the oil thru out the engine. The rocker tips are spray lubed by a cross pipe and the soot in the oil a tank like a cushion so that when the rocker tips hit, the sound is muffled. New oil has not soot. The oil spray leaves only a thin film, and when the rocker tips hit, you get the sound. After a few hundred miles, the soot builds back up, and the rocker tips have the soot cushion that keeps the tips quiet. The Ford answer about geometric alignment of this and that does not e plain the oil change factor and that’s why we call bs on that explanation.

I wouldn't worry about, I freaked out when my 2013 did after it first oil change. After some research I found the same article. It did it up until 80 ish thousand miles but every oil change would last less and less from like 1500 to 2000 miles to just a few hundred when it finally quit. I have 135000 miles now and running just fine. If I'm honest I king of miss it, I always took it as a sign that they actually change my oil. I would just enjoy you beautiful truck.

The vibration noise at idle is caused by the ground strap directly in the middle of engine against the firewall. All you have to do is pull on it to get it off the firewall.

My 2020 cummins started doing this after my last oil change (19,000 miles) on the truck, it never made the noise on the previous oil changes, and the noise (typewriter tick), only makes the noise at high idle (1,100) or higher, also randomly it doesn't do it at all. Also it doesn't start making the noise until the oil temperature gets up to about 150 degrees. I have used Amsoil 5w-40 and Mopar 10w-30. Is yours acting the same?

When doing a engine oil and filter service the reason you end up with it sounding like a typewriter is air in the top of your filter ......when filling your filter with oil b4 installing it make sure you fill it ,so there is no air left in the filter...dont hurry ...take your time filling the filter ...

Dude, if you're going to make a video about engine noise and the truck is sitting behind you, start the thing up so we can hear it. Probably the reason why you have so many thumbs down. Capiche? I wouldn't get a Powerstroke if it was given to me. I have a F350 regular cab Dually, with the 6.2 gasser, and it's great. Of course Ford will claim it's not a serious issue, replacing or repairing all Powerstrokes would put them under that much faster. A friend of mine has a 2017 F450 with the 6.7, uses it for towing a lot, and is already on his second engine, and it too is making the same ticking noise as the first engine. I always had Ford pickups, as a matter of fact I did a number of life changing firsts in my '68 F100 if you know what I mean, but I would never get a Ford diesel. If I am getting a diesel, it would be a Cummins. Cheers.

New oil or after an oil change a slight drag is created between the crank and the retainer bearing piece (excuse my dumbness, the technical term is escaping me right now) but there are tabs that hit on the block slightly creating the sound.

My ‘19 6.7 Cummins does the same exact sound
@jeffhammond8758
@jeffhammond8758 2 года назад

@@jeffhammond8758 I took mine into the shop right around the time I wrote this comment. Long story short, my truck was the test bed for this problem, 5 months in the shop. After further investigation the dealer serviced it with the wrong weight oil, which in turn caused the lifters to fail, and a TSP was released shortly after.
@jeffhammond8758
@jeffhammond8758 2 года назад
It's interesting that you mentioned the dealership put the wrong oil in, I specifically asked the dealership if they put 10w-30 in and they said yes, called them a couple days later (when this noise surfaced) and asked them if they are sure, they said they will change it again, so I asked for an oil sample, and they forgot, and they are trying to blame it on a tune I put on it a 1,000 miles ago. They said you're not under warranty, I said I am aware of that, I said, but if you put 15w-40 in it that's not a warranty issue, it's a dealership screw up. So I am sure they intentionally didn't give me a sample. Did you have your oil tested, and did it eventually screw up the cam?
@kennethespinosa8442
@kennethespinosa8442 2 года назад
@@jeffhammond8758 I didn’t request a sample, however after FCA/Cummins figured out the cause I went back to the previous service records and it stated “serviced with 15W40”
@jeffhammond8758
@jeffhammond8758 2 года назад
I just went through my service records and at the end of July 2021, the dealership had on record putting 15w-40 in my truck, I went 5,000 miles on it. I called them today and they now want to take a look at it, only problem is 1,000 miles ago I put it on a diet. So, this will get interesting, they admitted they screwed up, but they also know my truck's been modified (these mods in no way are going to affect my hydraulic lifters.

The best way to get rid of that type writer noise is to sell that truck and buy a 7.3 and u won’t have that issue plus it will last longer. Great beard though 👍

Ben Vasilinda the 7.3 is out dated and worthless if you need power
@benvasilinda9729
@benvasilinda9729 6 лет назад
Jondavid Bristow outdated and worthless? I have 3-7.3L and all have around 500K miles each and pull double axel trailers 5-6 days a week year round. I’d hardly call that outdated and useless. All are million mile trucks and should reach that easily.
@jondavidbristow9819
@jondavidbristow9819 6 лет назад
Ben Vasilinda I drive one daily too and it's a dog pulling our skid steer up the mountains My 6.0 was better at pulling and my 6.7 pulls 25k lbs easier while getting better fuel mileage That's why I say they are out dated
@benvasilinda9729
@benvasilinda9729 6 лет назад
Jondavid Bristow u can easily add a programmer to that 7.3 and get plenty of power and better gas out if it. I’m not referring to a Bully Dog one or those others that just wind up burning up ur transmission or clutch. My 2002 has an Eco programmer on it and it seems to do fine. I drive the 2000 but I just run it stock and I always pull the heaviest stuff we use. Mine does fine and doesn’t seem to have issues pulling that I notice. Doesn’t bog down and my truck never redlines or border redlines. Then again, I’m never trying to race anyone or get crazy with my truck. I just use it for daily work and pulling. A few months ago I did make a 4 day run from South Florida to Northern Vermont and that’s well over 3000 miles. Either way I’m happy with my 7.3L and at 500K miles each I’d say I’m getting my money’s worth.

LLY Project I have a L5P 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 10,700 miles started ticking after dealer oil change. They claimed it was normal and would stop after 20% of new oil life. But I have a neighbor across the street with same truck and his doesn’t do it yet ???? Drove me crazy so I put 100% amsoil 5w40 diesel oil in my truck hoping possibly it was oil filter or oil since that’s all I did to it before it started ticking. it stopped instantly!!!! I’m not a Amsoil dealer just looking to get the word out it’s not normal or ok! Just use good oil.

The reason our trucks sound like something a soyboy should be driving is do to our lovely Jackoffs from the EPA ! Too much unnecessary BS on these trucks anymore ! I group up in south Louisiana where the Mississippi River is lined with chemical plants. I’m SURE all the smoke and discharge you see from these plants are EPA friendly !
