Another thing for the Mavic Mini and DJI drones with the antenna in the front landing gear legs. Normally the best signal is off the front. Turn the front of the drone towards you. Use DJI FLY map to orient the drone so its facing you. The latest update gives a line back to Home so line the front up with that line. Also set your RTH altitude so that if you loose complete control / disconnect and it initiates a RTH the added altitude will normally help regain signal. Altitude is everything for signal! Just keep in mind of local airspace and max altitude rules. Fly safe! Be safe and Fly as You Are! =]
5ghz and 2.4ghz are situational. 5ghz might be better in your scenario because you are flying in an area with a lot of interference from other users and only flying short distances away. The downsides to 5ghz is that is has a harder time penetrating structures and does not give you the range of 2.4ghz because the shorter wavelength. You’d be better off sticking to 2.4ghz in rural areas if you are going for range, but knowing the difference between the two is nice so you can switch accordingly. Also - some drones now have a dual band option (although may be reserved for prosumer drones at the time) that receives and transmits on both frequencies!
Hello and thank you for the information. I only been flying since November and have not had any trouble like I had today. I lost signal to my drone and it was on and off several times during my getting it turned around. And I was within a quarter mile of the controller. Not far at all in what I’ve been told the distance capabilities of the mavic 2 pro are. But there is one thing that I need to ask, and that is when all of this was going on. My controller told me to put the drone in tripod mode. Which is where I thought my drone was set. Upon getting landed I found out that the physical switch on the controller was on T (tripod) mode. But the setting on the Dji go 4 app was on P (positioning) mode. It didn’t seem like it wanted me to change it to positioning mode in the app so I switched the controller mode to positioning. I did fly again shortly there after but couldn’t really tell much change between the two setting’s. A little more responsive, and a little bit faster maybe. But I’ve never had it tell me to do something. On the flight after this all happened I did not go back to the distance where the signal was lost. But the day before I had flown almost twice that far and had no trouble. So now after this windy story, my question is. Could the flight modes not being set the same have caused signal lose? Thanks for the help.
Most excellent. Looking forward to trying all this tomorrow or the next sunny day. I just got a DJI refreshed Mavic 2 pro after crashing my unit.. I'm supposed to have a 3 mile range and I barley get 1 miles and not even. I fly in the country with a lot of trees and a lot of wires and phone towers. It's not deep country but still very country. It seems the refresh drone is not as good with the range. Although today at the end of the day it wanted and got an update. I'm hoping this it. I'll know more in a few days. I'm subscribed to your channel now. One video and I'm a fan. LOL. Thanks, Tom
You are a star, thank you. I lost my signal on my DJI Mavic 2 Pro always and couldn't find out why. Since I changed from 2.4Ghz to 5.8Ghz I have no problem anymore, thanks thanks thanksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss :-)
Good information, at 9:40 you mentioned you can get dji drones to return to home and also get them to return to the controller, I’m not sure if that is correct, I thought so too, but now I understand it will update the new home point you assign it , but it doesn’t actually follow the controller, so if you were in a moving boat and updated the home point it will land at the place where you updated the home point which would be in the water if your still moving, something to look into.
My Mini 2 main board got burned while updating the fly app. You should put a fan facing the drone while updating on the table. To prevent overheating while updating.
8:33 wifi can actually travel quite far, if you are flying in a low interference area and in FCC mode, the drone should be able to get the range that dji states as long as there aren't too many obstacles in the way.
I solved mine. It would disconnect 20 seconds after starting recording. I just formatted the sd card, and no more disconnects. I was using a 512gb samsung Evo, it started doing it after the card started filling up. Soo there must be a max card size. Or max storage amount. Don't start recording under trees.
So cool! I'm writing my thesis and I'm a droner too! Consider doing a session on "My beautiful PhD freinds" and "droning to keep sane!" I'm serious man - droning helps me with my PhD writing
My phantom 3 professional keeps showing remote controller signal weak, even when I'm hovering at 3 ft. I have searched the settings to find the 5Ghz but I can't find anything like that. I don't know if my drone doesn't have such GHZ
This was a interesting video ive only had my dji mini 2 se since Christmas I've flown it loads of times but we're I live I live on a housing estate when I take my drone up about 80m the n fly out a little distance I noticed signal drop on dji fly app from white to orange for 2 seconds tbh I think its the interference off the houses I'm going try these methods 👌👌👌💯
My jjrc x12 lost signal and flew away with no way to control it. I was lucky enough that it reconnected and i was able to bring it back..... since then ive been to sacred to fly it. I dont want to lose it
RIP to my mini2 today Apr 17 2023, flew it while on a boat like I normally do, no issues, no signal lost, perfect flying everytime. until i did a firmware update. afterwards it was constantly losing signal at 70-100m and getting disconnected. Once it lost signal the RTH was somewhere in the water and the boat was already far away from the RTH. I was trying to adjust the RTH somewhere closer to our destination but I had no control of anything no signal on the screen, no GPS, wasnt even pairing anymore. it was heartbreaking. anyone else had this issue. let me know. I have a phobia now. glad it wasnt a mini 3 or else i would've been even more devastated.
Updated last week. First flight lost signal. Never one problem since new. Fkn furious. Is there a fix for this ? I knew it in my heart, I shouldn’t have did any updates at all.
Seems you haven't posted a video in quite a while. Wanted to correct the Mini Pro 3 vs Air 2s comparison article you published, "DJI Mini 3 Pro vs Air 2S: Table Comparisons". In the article, you incorrectly state the DJI mini3 pro has a "bigger" sensor and can be used "better in low light". For those looking to choose between the two, those claims should be revised. The Air 2s has a much larger sensor (1" vs the smaller 1 1/3"). It is true the Mini 3 is capable of producing higher MP images, but the smaller sensor is using four 12 MP photos to create that higher resolution (48MP) image. Additionally, the 1" sensor of the Air 2s makes it a far better option for low light photos. The larger pixel pitch collects more light and allows the sensor to have far less noise. Thats not to disparage the Mini 3 in any way, but factually, the article is incorrect.
Nice video and tips! Thanks. However my DJI Mini SE doesn’t give me the option to manually switch to 5Ghz. It only gives me the option to set it to Auto or Manual, where I can only select 2.5Ghz channels. No option to switch to 5Ghz. Unless I am missing something regarding the Mini SE setting?
Have a hs 720e that wii fly in circles in hover mode and then takes off like a jet .Has 16 17 sats signals ,if you shut off gps it will come back under control.Transmitter still shows gps sats still on with gps switch turned off
hi bro this is vishal from india ... i have diji 4 advance i had a problem of lost signal i solve my problem ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, thank u bro
1. Don't keep the batterys fully charged for more than 24 hours 2. Store the batterys at around 40% if you are not planning on using the drone for a month or longer 3. Don't store your batteries in a really hot place (the back of your car on a hot day without air conditioner or windows open) 4. Try to land between 20 - 30%, never drain the batteries past 10% I use these methods and I have had my batterys for 1.5 years and I have had no bloating or problems. Hope this helps 👍
Hi I'm new to drones and I bought an inexpensive E99 Pro. I took it to a large rural open field. Controller light was on and drone lights were on. When I pressed the launch button, it was supposed to hover at 4.5 feet. Instead it went up full speed and did not respond to the controller throttle. I saw it go up several hundred feet and disappear. Do you know why this happened?
Nice helpfull vid! I have A dji FPV and i like to fly between obstacles. But my drone will disconnect really fast because of obstacles between me and my Drone. This could easily cause a crash. Is there A way to improve your Drones connection to go better trough obstacles?
I live in a subdivision near a park in more of a wooded area by a forest I have a mavic air 2 and I barley get just a tad bit farther than a quarter mile before I loose connection
I'm having a controller connection loss on my dji mavic 2 pro. I fly about 40ft and the controller loses all control/signal for the drone. I have everything updated on the dji go 4 app on my samsung s24 ultra. Calibrated properly, antennas are all fine, good connection to my phone. Any help is appreciated.
How do I get past drone Jammers if I'm flying in the area that has a drone jammer and it's sending the drone back to its original location how do I get
if the antenna in the drone is virticaly polarized then the antena on the controler MUST be virticaly polorized........if one is horizontal you are crossed polerized you will lose 20db of signal !!!!!! most man made noise is virtically polorized....antennas in drones and controleer are a quarter wave spike ...unity gain 1inch i belive....sorry for the typing and i have bad vision
@clmfilms8103 I'm pretty late with my question given when this was discussed but what's the difference between CE and FCC when judging range performance?
Ya, I saw a video where someone get 5km with the original mavic air, and only had to return because of battery. That was a super low interference area though.
