Please make a correction. It has long ago been renamed, and now it is called the Zambezi Region. Rather say that it was formerly known as the Caprivi Strip;.
For anyone who wants to know the answer without dedicating 9 minutes to it: When the Germans colonized the area, the strip was supposed to provide Germany with access to the Zambezi River, aiming for a trade route to the Indian Ocean. This didn't work out due to Victoria Falls being impassable. Now, it's just a skinny extension of Namibia, sticking out between other countries due to those old colonial ambitions. Done.
