Thank you, Bry, for the unbiased review. We appreciate your feedback, as well as the other comments shared here. Honestly, we share many of the concerns you raised in your video. Our primary focus is on continuously improving our price guide. We constantly update our approach, refine our algorithms, and implement thorough fact-checking and robust quarantine processes to ensure accurate FMV. We are actively addressing these issues and plan to incorporate them into future updates. All of your comments help streamline our focus to get it to where the community needs it to be. Best! - CovrPrice.

The ubiquity of eBay means it will always be the most current standard for past sales and the current market. There's no way around it. Think about it, even in live sales when sellers and buyers are looking for comps nobody goes anywhere else. Love it or not until something else replaces it eBay will always be the place for valuation. And now that sellers can go back three years it helps with positioning uncommon books. It's like CGC. Until someone comes along and improves on that model in a dependable, measurable way that's who we're "stuck" with. The cool thing is, though, that it doesn't cost anything to use eBay for marketplace research. Anyway, just my random and inconsequential opinion.

The reason why that SPAWN $300 sale didn't show up in GPA was because it was a CBCS book. GPA doesn't include CBCS in their numbers.

I have also found a lot of times they pull a slab sale from eBay and list it under the Raw sales list and vice versa as well as pulling sets/runs and counting that as a sale for a single issue. Each time, I've reached out either via email or Instagram to give them the info and within a short time the data is corrected.

BTW. Just saw Covrprice shows a Journey Into Mystery 125 in a 5.0 selling for $165. Which is way high. So checked on eBay. Come to find out. The sale was a 5.0 CBCS signed by Stan Lee on the cover & Jack Kirby signed on page 1 inside the book. This is part of their problem. That’s not a ‘normal’ 5.0 Journey 125. 🙄

Hey Bry... just still of a different minds set on pricing tools because people still put too much emphasis on speculation on a books possible future value as opposed to pure sales data. With that in mind, most pricing tools don't get enough sales data for my taste to be accurate. Ebay and other auctions sales isn't enough because there are too many outliers. It would be nice if there was a central hub for retailers to report their sales to get something more accurate across the board.

Wow, thanks for breaking down how the pricing works from your perspective as a dealer. I have been using both Cover Price and GPAnalysis for the past few years and have still struggled with pricing the books I sell on my ebay store because of the discrepancies between the two. I pretty much always defer to GPA for slabs but I still like the functionality of using Cover Price. My big criticism of Cover Price is like you indicated they really need to do more to track sales data more accurately and come in line more. And I agree that once they figure out how to utilize AI into pricing it is going to really help the hobby flourish more.

Ok. I apologize for the long reply. My issue with you being nonchalant about disregarding the $288 sale of the Spawn 180 is that if this sort of data was all you had to price a golden age comic you were selling in your store you’d utilize it as the “new “ norm. Then you’d state that a lot of auction houses are places people can get a’deal’ thus the price ‘could’ be even higher. The reason you’re dismissing this Spawn is because it’s a modern book with no significant first appearance or variant copy with a significant low print run. Although this issue was probably no more than like 22k copies but that’s isn’t the point. My point is, I believe the seller has a better argument that this ‘could’ be higher than the $90 you are so quick to state a 9.8 slab would sell for. Yes, the book probably isn’t a $288 consistent seller, but to drop it to $90 just because of a sale in ‘21 isn’t fair either.

Weather it’s Key Collector, Comic Cover Price, or Go Collect they definitely need to update their algorithm’s . Think they are more concerned about keeping their data base of comics up to date then they do their prices! It really does hurt the community as a whole, weather your new into it or as a seasoned vet at it. The new people just look and see what’s posted and it’s word, but the vet knows to look deeper in to it! Love your videos, fantastic job, keep it going!!

The problem sellers are always going to be the ones that get blinded by the dollar signs in their eyes. They are usually a combination of lazy and unreasonable. They are lazy because they don't want to do the work and look at more than 1 place to research the current prices and they are unreasonable because they don't want to accept that there can ever be any variations on prices. THIS IS THE CONCRETE PRICE AND I AM NOT MOVING FROM IT! You gotta be fluid and be willing to put some work in, if you want a buyer to take you seriously. The truth is that there isn't any one place (mostly for raw books) that has the whole picture. We all would love to sell our books at top dollar, but like I have said before, that isn't going to happen unless you find someone that is ignorant and has more money than brains.
@richardwaddington2038
@richardwaddington2038 3 дня назад
I have to agree as regards effort put in . Im UK based and the difference between USA/UK is unreal . I probably do 4-6 hours research every day and 1-3 hours listing per day . Im not a member of any comic price website but I do use tools as i have to keep updated (due to mistakes in the past) . I do tho have comics Im not willing to sell below a certain price as I can wait until the value comes up to match but I dont list them , thats just my choice. Anything I do list is subject to fluctuation , you want my comic , i want your money etc.

One challenge we notice is that inexperienced sellers new to comics (who obtained a recent collection) always focus on the NM+/top-of-market values. We are trying to think through that and how to make an FMV useable by novice and experienced collectors.
@nemogriffen

@@richardwaddington2038 That's not unreasonable at all, especially now. You aren't going to try to sell those books right this moment and EXPECT to get more. You know that we are in a low right now and it is best to wait it out until the tides change.

This is primarily due to our most common condition issue. So, if you have a 6.0 for an older book, and there's no price for that, it will assign the MCC FMV, which could be a much higher grade. We plan on correcting this in a big way within future updates. It was intended as a "solution" for missing values, but it didn't quite do what was intended.

Better logic can be programmed into a pricing tool though. You might call that "AI" but these days AI is language-learning and that ends up in pretty weird places a LLOTT. Been using cvrprice for a rough estimate of the collection value, and I do not think those discrepancies found out in the software may change the overall value. +/- 10% is what I am expecting and I appreciate the effort of the people on cvrprice (always very responsive at any error correction request). Assigning by myself a "grade" on raw comics I am sure introduces more error than any one generated by un-precise cvrprice report. I think is a very good tool for managing big collection and will go on paying for it.
