The serious answer in lore is that the entity makes them do it. The entity needs the survivor to feel hope so it holds back killers after a hit. Evan probably wipes his blade after every hit because the entity has let him know, before, that those are the rules and he needs to play by them "or else".

The two health states, the to hooks before they die, the generators, its all built so its not over too quickly. But yeah, it's pretty clearly just for balance.

It’s lore reasons mainly, to strive fear into the survivor whilst giving hope, whilst creating emotions within the killer. Can be positive can be negative either way, entity feeds off of em… but legion tends to defy this rule with feral frenzy

Maybe it’s a time related thing, the killers have been in the realm since they were taken some going back as far as the damn medieval era so by cleaning the blade it probably lasts longer and isn’t eroded by the blood if that makes sense. The entity has rules to give the survivors a fighting chance so by cleaning the blade they give ‘em a head start and aren’t just dicking around waiting for them to run off.

explanation from reddit: it's a rule the Entity enforces on killers in order to give survivors more hope of escape, since we all know the Entity feeds on it. The distance the survivor gains while the killer is meticulously cleaning their weapon gives the survivor the thought of, "Okay, I may be hurt, but at least I put a good bit of distance between me and that psycho. Just keep running; you'll make it through this." This then feeds the Entity more than if the survivor were just immediately overwhelmed by the killer.

This should be in the game. Like imagine a killer whose special ability is just common sense

Rowan was definitely playing Rowan AND the slasher! There were no shots of them in the same frontal frame, and the body type of the slasher couldn't have been Adam or Alan. Good acting :)

funnily enough theres a lore reason for it! the killers and survivors are put here by an entity that feeds on emotion and the survivors being injured but not immediately downed/killed gives more time for them to feel terror for it to feed off of

Not only does the killer not want to give a survivor a fatal, blood borne disease, but also he doesn't want a rusty weapon.

The actual reason, is to savor the thrill of the hunt. Killing too quickly spoils the fun and excitement.

Genuinely though: the killers’ job in the Dead By Daylight lore is to prolong suffering as ‘the entity’ - the one that controls the trials - feeds off of intense emotion: pain, despair, fear, etc. so they likely do this to: A. Prolong the chase and therefore the survivors fear - I also don’t doubt a survivor will grow more fearful upon looking behind them and seeing that the killer has slowed down to admire your blood upon their blade, so confident that they can catch up to you. And B. Because the killer gains a sense of satisfaction and perhaps power, - or fear - more emotion for the entity to feed off of.

I felt the “I’m proud of you” moment bc I feel that when I play against demo or hillbilly. Killers who I don’t see often enough but have fun against, like yah thank you for playing a killer not as common and not as powerful as a nurse. Am proud of a Billy and demo always 💖

Truthfully the reason killers in DBD will often clean their blades after hitting a survivor (other than giving survivors a chance to run) is actually them practicing proper care with their blade. Leaving blood on the blade can cause it to rust overtime, especially something like Ghostfaces Buck 120 knife

The thing is blood is higly corrosive and even the best stainless steel is going to get rust if you dont clean your blade

The lore accurate reason for most killers is so their blades don't get rusty, blood contains a lot of oxide which can make it very rusty, leading to poor slashes

The killers lounge has a sanitizer bucket. We are real big on personal hygiene while maintaining a grungy look.

Cleaning the blade keeps it sharp, but if you're continuously slashing or stabbing something without a rest, you don't have to clean it until you're done. Nice plus side to killers not knowing this: you have the chance to get away :)

The serious amswer why is because in lore DND IS a game for the Entity. It feeds off fear, pain, and torment. Both the survivors' and killers'. Cleaning is part of prolonging things and dangling a tiny bit of hope to ripe away later.

The Entity:Ummm..I should hired him to be a coach for the killers..yeah I’ll keep that on my reminder list. (Used it’s infinite tendencies to grab a pencil and note book and write down the important thing to hired the survivor and turn them into a coach for the killers)

And that’s when the trapper became a slightly better version of the legion.
