I mix in whole corn because the chickens and crows will tear the cow patties apart getting to the remaining corn which reduces the need for me to drag the pasture/corral and makes it easier to decompose the manure back into the soil in a natural way. Even with the remaining corn much of the starch has been used from it from the steers digestive system so I’m not really losing anything.
Smart move...I know beef farmers here in the Carolinas that grow and make their own feed kind of like Dairy farmers do with silage. May want to check into that way. They basically grow and make their own feed.
Does cracked corn lose some of the natural oil in the corn that would be considered healthy? We are NOT farmers, but we had some chickens and man did whole corn brighten up their yolks.
