I have the large Monstera and I am so happy about it. I got the cutting for free at a train stop. A woman was carrying the biggest monsters cuttings I have ever seen. I asked her where she got it from and she said from her sister, whom had it for many many years. She offered me one for free and I was sooo happy

The "Philodendron Selloum" is actually Thaumatophyllum Bipinnatifidum! Also commonly called Tree Philodendron and Split Leaf Philodendron, some times even referred to as some sort of Monstera.

i also don’t understand why more people don’t have philodendron goeldii/thaumatophyllum spruceanum!!! i bought mine from a plant store and it was a rooted cutting that only had 3 lobes! it’s been about 8 months and it has grown 3 immature leaves and 2 mature leaves that have 8 and 9 lobes respectively!! it doesn’t need a moss pole in my experience, just a lot of light!! :) absolutely one of my faves. 💚💚

I randomly ran into a large form monstera deliciosa in a small plant shop in walking distance from my new apartment last year, for 40 euro. Hadn't seen one before and haven't seen one since, though apparently they're fairly common here in the netherlands/germany. I didn't technically have the money to buy it but here it is in my living room, thriving. Absolutely worth it, I spend so much time just kind of staring at it. It's just opened up it's first leaf with the beginnings of a 3rd row of fenestrations, which I am very excited about.

Made me laugh with the Monstera large form. Maybe because I'm old, and yes, everyone had one back then. I don't understand why they are so expensive, they're not rare at all!, just HUGE and difficult to handle. Only reason I don't have one is lack of room but they are one of my favourite plants 😍

I actually have 3 of these plant, huh. Our local Chinese restaurant used to have large form deliciosa. It was over 3 m tall, growing on the wall. The restaurant didn't survive the pandemic so I don't know what happened to her... It was way too big to just put in a car, I hope they didn't just throw har away :( btw. I don't know what latin pronunciation would be, but if you're going with the original language (Polish) and botanist's last name "warscewiczi" would be pronounce as var-shae-vee-chee.

I surprisingly have a bunch of these on your list! I will say, you are showing off the mature specimens of each which is definitely not that you're gonna see available for purchase. In Canada, all these fun philos are entering the market as very juvenile plants, which often times look like a hederaceum and most ppl just don't have the patience to wait for that ontogeny, so that's probably why these get looked over.

I’ve had a large form monstera outside my house for about 12 years. It climbed all the way to the roof and now covers the whole wall. Recently we repainted the outside of the house and had to take it down though. It made about 1000 cuttings.

There aren't a lot of people who can place a smile onto my face, but you have yet to fail... thanks for that. Your enthusiasm always shows in your conversations regarding plants, but when you are genuinely excited about one.... WOW!! You ask if any of these plants make the grade for me, and yes at least half. LOL However two in particular are going onto my "hunt-em-down" list: the Monstera Pinnatipartita (I do like compact) and the style of growth resembles a Vanda Orchid (a personal fave), and the Thaumatophyllum Spruceanum (I am intrigued with the spiral growth). And while you didn't "discuss" it, you are getting full blame for turning me on to the Spiral Ginger... this one will be a must! Gracias de nuevo, Chica !!

A common thread going around all these thaumatophyllums (as well as E. skeleton key and Ph. warszewickzii) is that they are like Ph. lupinums and Ph. gigas - they take really long to reach mature form.
@notverynotoriousg5674
@notverynotoriousg5674 2 года назад
I can only speculate but I think the small version of lupinums that looks like a hederaceum is stunted, when people chop up immature philodendrons it creates stunted plants. if anyone has one i am curious as to if they get cataphylls.

i've had the e. sceleton key for half a year, still NO sign of the key shape. i've heard the same from others that have this one, and it don't like humidity, its a real pain in the butt
@horace6851
@horace6851 2 года назад
I have epipremnum skeleton key, it grows really fast but indeed matures slowly. The easiest way to get it to reach sizeable leaves before staking was to keep rounding the vine around the pot. It's not the height that leads to maturity it's development of aerial roots. It is starting to get key-shaped leaves after two rounds around the pot and they are still only one inch long, soon I will put it on a pole. Btw I did the same thing wit E white variegated, after one round around the pot the leaves are already double the size of the mother leaf from the cutting. It also worked for Cebu Blue. The only caveat is that the plant can't be rootbound, it will not mature if the roots are limited because you're adding more and more roots with every node. That's why using a moss pole there is no need to repot so often - the aerial roots develop inside the pole and total root system is actually pretty big even with a small pot.

Philodendron fuzzy petiole is one of my cheap, not talked about, faves. I’m not talking about squamifarum. It looks like a gloriousum without the veins and it’s CHEAP online. $20 bucks on Etsy cheap. I own a skeleton key baby and it's pretty similar to a regular pinnatum. Two leaves are even silver and look very similar to a philodendron silver sword. It grows pretty fast and I love it and I'm looking forward to the days it matures. It's awkward but I love that.

Thank you so much - your timing was PERFECT! I just purchased (today) an Anthurium Arrow and was told it was a philodendron. I was like…. Hmmm, nah. And then you show up and label it spot on for me!! Great list in this video.

This is so interesting! In the US in some places the large form monstera is pretty easy to find in big box stores. The small one is obviously more common but locally they were selling MASSIVE (6 foot) monstera del. Large form for $50 😳 the leaves were incredible, I was so sad I didn't have the space😂

I find it very interesting that large form monsteras are the uncommon ones in the UK. I'm from Mexico City and they're everywhere (And I mean EVERYWHERE!). My girlfriend and I have this little game going on for the past two years where we spot monstera on the street, and a 20 minute car ride around the city always yields 7+ sightings. I'm almost sure that most of them are remnants from the 70's craze. People planted them outside and while they don't exactly thrive in our climate unless artificially watered, a lot of them survived. It's not uncommon to see absolutely massive ones fruiting. I have two of them and both are rescues found on the sidewalk as trash. Small form though, those are a bit harder to find. They're common in stores now, since they grow a lot faster and their popularity grew in recent years, but a couple of years ago I couldn't find one anywhere! I finally got one this year at one of our huge plant markets for about a pound (25 pesos).

Are you sure about the Monstera Deliciosa Large Form being so rare? In Germany the small form is much more rare. Basically every plant sold without a pole is a large form, plants already on a pole are small form. You'll find both in every kind of store

It's often takes several decades for the epithets of plant genera that have been reclassified by botanists to be widely adopted by horticulturists. Hobbyists are even more reluctant to adopt name changes for plants that they are accustomed to referring to by an earlier name. All of these former philodendrons now belong to the genus Thaumatophyllum but don't look for changes on the labels of plants in the florists' shops anytime soon: P. bipinnatifidum (formerly P. selloum) P. brasiliense P. goeldii P. speciosum P. undulatum P. xanadu (formerly P. 'Xanadu')

People in the Philippines always go wild over the Monstera Thai Constellation and Albo and other Popular Monstera while the Rare Plant Shop owner is very much proud of her Monstera Pinnatipartita which is so common here in the Philippines. Great. That's why I really love this channel.

The Pinnatipartita is a very common plant here in Nigeria. It’s very fast growing and it does need a pole because it’s eager to climb and produces lots of arial roots. It has different growth profiles . Mine isn’t fenestrated but grows so beautifully. Love it

I have an epipremnum skeleton key and I really love it. I like epipremnums in general and have a lot of different ones. The skeleton key shape needs a lot of time though, because only the large leafs on the adult plant will have this shape. If you have a thing for epipremnums and odd looking leaf shapes, try to search for a epipremnum shangri la. There are also two variegata versions of the epipremnum aureum and the epipremnum pinnatum albo which will develop splits and holes in the leafs, looks a bit like a monstera adansonii but with lesser holes.

Both are recent purchases so I can't really comment on the ease/growth/etc. However, I love them both and both were very very affordable, and I also found both in my local garden center 🙂

Love it! I have a philo warzcewiczii, and it's my absolute favorite. They're a little weird care-wise, which is maybe why they're not as popular as they should be. They like to go bone dry between watering, they hate getting their leaves wet, and they're semi-deciduous so they will often drop leaves if their environmental conditions change quickly. So basically, they don't ship well. But, they bounce back eventually and they're beautiful. (This all being said from my own personal experience of course) Great video, Kaylee!

Love my skeleton key but it takes alot of time and alot of climbing to get very "key" shaped. Fast grower, but as soon as it runs out of pole space it starts to "revert" in shape.

I have that Anthurium Arrow! I thought it was called Anthurium Black Corong? It was so unusual & rare that I found only one stock from a garden center compared to the PhilodendronGoeldii and Subhastatum that had like a shelf full of other stocks… its super sturdy and leatherlike, It’s one of my favorites!

Again...you provide such good content. I love these plants and will get when able. Nice to see the unusual. I am tired of alot everyone has or wants. I do not like "lemming" behavior where one buys what the internet says are "must haves" simply because your neighbor has one. So thanks for these alternatives!
