Everyone should ping on death, especially when it's a Widow or another sniper. Knowing the angle the sniper is in is INVALUABLE for your team's squishies, especially if they are a sniper so they know where they are before peeking.
Clicking the ping button after death is literally muscle memory at this point, I don't even realize I do it every single time until I end up doing it in other games lol
in ow its better because it will literally lock on them through walls and still get off a good ping whereas in siege you basically could only give one last ping before you got laid out
as for pinging: a lot of people also just don't pay attention to pings. I silently cry tears of joy when my teammates react to pings of any kind because it's so rare. just yesterday I had a game where I kept pinging a flanking Hanzo, no one reacted to it so he killed 3 and won the enemy team the game. as a support (in this case Mercy) I can't do much in this situation so if no one pays attention he just kills us for free. it's so frustrating because this could've been avoided if even just one person turned around. and before some smartass tells me to just say it in vc - no one joins vc on EU servers unless they wanna flame you. I'd be talking to myself. 💀
People who don't turn around for pings are the same that don't turn around when you say "Sombra behind" the ping gives more actionable information faster anyway.
Unfortunately, in that case, the only option is to swap to a support that can defend themselves a bit better. Ik it sucks but that's really all u can do if your team doesn't peel lol
i literally 100% of the time ping when i die even when the person is right in front of me and im made fun of for it! but i will always keep doing it because it literally can only help
it doesnt always stay stationery, if they stay in LoS to your soul it moves & follows them out of LoS within a small timeframe. idk how it works but i've pinged sombras through walls after they've TP'd
I disabled chat recently and it made a huge difference in how much I enjoyed my matches, team coordination died with the first Overwatch so there's not much sense in pretending like its ever coming back.
If you want to know how report heavy people are- I haven't had voice or team chat enabled since about 2020, and I still occasionally got warnings that "my communication is not in line with others playing overwatch" and that I have been "reported by multiple players". Coms in OW are dead.
Same, I know people say to communicate to win but as a support player with a feminine voice if I’m not getting flamed for my team dying than it’s for having a gay voice 😭
@@bananamonkeygaming14 tilted literally means you get mad for any reason, to the point that you're playing "uphill". Competing while upset puts you at a significant disadvantage, which seems like the meta these days.
3:34 I'm on console. Typically when I play support rather then have the general ping where if you ping an objective or if you ping an ally "come to me for heals," I have "enemy ping." One single press says theres an enemy over there and I like it over the other because I feel like my teammates take that red ping more seriously. While i can still ping an enemy in a general direction it requires a double press. Upon death if i have "enemy ping" equipped it doesnt mark the person who killed me only for "general ping."
Same here. I play on the DualSense Edge with back paddles, and I have the left one mapped to jump and the right one mapped to ping enemy. I instinctively ping whichever enemy we should focus, any enemy I spot at off angles, and on death.
The main healer question was irritating. Tank and both DPS going to spawn without a healer is dead. Tank and both DPS going to spawn WITH a healer, might not be dead. It's simple maths, if you can't stop them then go with them. You can protest and try to get them to stop, and you might be right, but it doesn't make a difference to the decision making because you're guaranteeing they die if you don't go.
It’s because this user is playing a “healer” and not a “support”. Should be supporting the team in the plays they are trying to make, not healing mistakes.
Scooby Doo and Shaggy always got into more interesting situations. Velma, Fred and Daphne almost never got into as much fun. As a support player im going with Scooby Doo most of the time
I disabled chat a few months back. It helped me focus on my own gameplay and get less caught up by the bad attitudes of players in the match. I feel like I improved and enjoyed the game more during this time, and it bothers me less now. I turned it back on again recently, just so I could be sure that I’m not accidentally endorsing anyone who is being toxic.
Pinging sucks..... It literally destroys an entire aspect of a skill gap. You no longer have to use your eyes / ears to figure out where everyone is. Now you can just die and ping the person that killed you 5 seconds after and it shows up on everyone's screen. You can LITERALLY PING AFTER YOU DIE. HOW? And this is suppose to be a competitive shooter right? LMFAO
I try to pay attention, and if I'm on support, especially Mercy, I feel like a battlefield commander. I can see everything, and notice that genji that just dipped behind that wall, and I know in 4 seconds, hell be coming out of that door behind us. I can pre-warn my fellow support that shits about to get ugly, and we can get him, or at least make him back off, and rethink his flanks.
Saying "Watching Here" (and the other ping markers) have honestly elevated my play. For example, with my flanking Reaper style (or just playing Sombra), saying "Watching Here" and/or "Going In" sets up my fellow dps and tank to better coordinate with me than if the ping system didn't exist. Its particularly nasty when I have a solid dive tank player on my team.
It just so natural to me to ping after dying especially after getting one tapped by a widow lol so my team know's her location. It's incredibly frustrating when people dont ping
That ping I didn't know...Maybe it would help me, cuz my team thinks I can heal when dead. They never seem to notice I'm dead...they never watch the kill feed. I do...but my team seems not. I don't call out team to kill more when he's dead...but they always seems to shout heal more...Then again I don't know if anyone notice ping anyway. I always ping where enemy at, or behind us or I slept someone, but my team just doesn't care. If I kill them myself they cry I'm doing dps and not healing. As if I should just ignore a tracer or sombra on me and magically avoid all damage...Then they say you positioning is bad...like my bullets can go around corners or something...When a dps dies I should say your positioning is bad and of course their response will be you could have healed me...
“Just gonna play Brig because it’s a rank solo queue game” it’s extremely demoralizing how widely accepted it is that solo climbing is unbearable in this game… make stack queueing gauge wins more and solo queueing gauge personal stats mainly as well as wins for rank. Sick of my rank being at someone else’s will.(I’m talking to you OTPs)
P.S the pickup basketball game comparison is asinine. You get immediate satisfaction playing pickup basketball. You play to make shots…. I play overwatch to get shinier metals.. can’t do that solo unless you’re a boosted new account
I've played since season 5. A couple weeks ago was the first time I've seen a Mercy rez ping. I didn't know it was a thing and it was so helpful. We thanked that mercy. Please ping your rez!
Chat contains ping and ult, etc. information, disabling it is an absurd idea. Karq must've forgoy this when mentioning pining as an alternative to chatting, but disabling chat makes this harder to do. Blizzard should allow us to disable match chat only, while leaving non-chat messages on screen. Still, you don't need to disable to chat to "only focus on playing", you can already do that by yourself and not handicp your informational advantage. To be able to ignore chat and play well despite it is a testament to true skill in this game.
I always ping. On death, when I see an ememy flanking, when I'm dueling an enemy, or even right in front of everyone and its too obvious. I still do it.
One issue with calling support 'healer' is that your mindset is already wrong. At support you should be doing way more damage than you think you should. Everytime you poke someone to low health they either have to hide or die. Both of those situations require you to heal your team less because they aren't doing damage and securing kills is the entire goal of the fight to begin with. It compounds too. You do damage, their supports are now healing and not putting any pressure on your team. You just created space because effectively 2 of their team are now out of the fight for a second and your team can move more free.
Ping on death is so good! Just for instance I was playing Ana in the back and the enemy Cass flanked me and we 1v1. He killed me just as I was able to get a sleep dart off on him. I pinged him and then it went to kill cam I got on coms and was like cowboy sleep!! And when I came back our widow had took him out and I got the assist. So satisfying
I onetrick widow and it's so annoying when your teammate dies to an enemy widow and doesn't ping. It's usually just a free kill if they do. It's also annoying to hear a teammate's character say "Sniper!" but they don't call it out or ping them.
Fun fact! If you ping the person who killed you immediately on death, you have enough time for a second ping right before that window to ping ends. Just spam ping when you die, and you will learn the timing eventually.
Baby Dva. should not get th me knock back reduction. Super annoying getting her out of mech near an edge, and trying to boop baby dva off the map is annoying. I get she’s a tank but just doesn’t make sense out of mech
First one is SUCH a good take. We also do this in life. Mindfulness meditation made me better at OW lol, doing everything including OW on autopilot is both the norm and also bad
Wait do you need the normal ping for that to work? I only use enemy ping on a hot key but after death it automatically switches to "im dead btw" massage.

Yes the fact it is there is not enough if the player base doesn't know its a function of the game. I even adjusted my ping to be my left stick click so I don't even have to move my finger to do it.
there's actually been a bug for pings and comms between ps4 and ps5 users i don't know if it got fixed but i hassled my friend about the same thing + with other comms saying like "man you really gotta use the pings and comms they help so much" basically and he was like bruh i did; after this back and forth like 10x we used the back track recording on PSN to pull the clips in question multiple times. Pretty much his comms (ps4) wouldn't show in my game at all (voice version of these comms didn't play either) but when i looked above their character i could see a symbol indicating that they did infact press something and i got no audio or chat logs for it. After realizing that was the case I started to notice it in my solo queue matches too; last seen season 9 (haven't played much of 10) and it's been a thing as early as season 5 at least
theres a lot of funky shield bashes on junkertown, most useful on attack. Like you can take that high ground bridge to cross onto the mega building. Stand on the little cover railing, bash across the roof (roof slide against ur direction to stall for a shorter bash cooldown when you land). And now you're behind the defenders, easily boop people off the stairs and should have less than 2 seconds on your bash if you slid on the roof correctly
I love people who complain about chat being toxic yet just leave chat and comms. Start out the the convo and get some good vibes going in the spawn room. Give out good energy and youll prolly be surprised how often you get it back I've met more friends on OW than any other game other than maybe WoW
Kiriko' healing alone is not enough, she doesnt heal that much if you miss some of the charms and its harder to heal tanks cuz their health pool is bigger. So, solo healing as Kiriko is not wise but knowing when it's time to stop pressuring the enemy team and take a breather to regenerate your own team is also important. Basically, "out of combat" healing will pay off more than pure healing while in combat, it does help mitigate damage but yout teammates are still taking damage and if they dont frag or move to cover, your healing won't help much (unless you are buying time I guess) I would say it is a similar decision with Mercy' heal or boost or combat Mercy (the latter is probably rarer to happen). While you are not helping damage an enemy with the boost directly, sometimes sacrificing the heal for a damage or healing boost is worth it. (This without taking into account suzu of course)
Not a bad analogy KarQ, that's the main reason I drive a stick shift, being engaged and thinking about how I'm driving is so much better than letting the car computer do it for me in an automatic
I ping on death all the time so i think im being useful until...someone else death pings and the ping is out yonder beyond the map ... so many time i see the ping and go deal with it to find out it was a bugged ping having me figure out how they got behind a wall
I think pings are difficult to locate at times, like pinging an enemy in your backline is harder to react to because there is not enough feedback to WHERE the ping is coming from and the urgency of the ping(i tend to spam ping when something is important)
I was always terrible mechanically at OW back when I played (I'm old and never played FPS since UT2k4), but without looking at the screen, I could tell you what every enemy and allies ult charge was, what hero they are on, if they are planning on swapping, which abilities are still available, exactly how much dmg they would do, and what a player is trying to do based on where they stand, who is alive, who is getting bullied by their team, ect ect. Played in high diamond to mid masters for about 7 years. Game sense is very important.
most poeple dont know what value means. they only care about stats. value istn just damage heal and elims, its space, distraction, finishing, assisting, stalling, kiting, surviving, ult farming, denieing abilities, baiting abilities and so much more i cant think of right now. you could have a zen with 0 heals spawncamping the enemie widow creating more value than ur soldier with 30 elims who happened to tickle everyone dying. but karq viewers know that. im just getting annoyed by bots flaming in low elo thinking they know it all.
Most of these solo queue things about teams holding them back, but if you honestly just do your job regardless of role and do well. Even if you lose the system does notice it. There's alot of factors that add into the back end skill tracking then just wins and loses. Not to mention if you're doing you're job and you believe you're worthy of the rank above then you'll probably be able to carry that game (in the metal ranks) if you aren't making an impact then you're probably in the correct rank
If you ever start to feel some imposter syndrome (in anything you do), it's okay to remember the phrase "No wait.. I'm goated". It'll snap you right out of it
According to the wiki, this was changed in April 2022 with the OW2 beta, and ever since, Shield Bash has procced inspire. Just tested it in the practice range to make 100% sure. It's understandable to not realize this, since Brig generally is using Shield Bash for more important things but yeah it gets the inspire proc now that its ability to stun is gone. :)
