Muslims should ask themselves if someone offers you a choice of any kind of death for yourself would you want a quick death a Sikh way or a slow painful death a Muslim way? Why are they even considering halal meat? What about all the other forms of meat- kosher, factory slaughtered, etc.. It sounds like a sikh should only eat the meat they slaughter themselves, which again begs the question, why are they even talking about halal meat?

When slaughtering halal the knife will be placed below the larynx on the neck of the animal and with a rapid, uninterrupted cutting motion, the trachea, esophagus, carotids and both jugular veins are completely severed in less than a second. This affects the blood and thus the Oxygen supply to the brain is interrupted, but there is also an instantaneous drop in blood pressure in the brain, and thus the animal's immediate unconsciousness.

no mercy? the way its supposed to be is that the animals neck is slit slightly and one of the veins is cut in this, not allowing it to feel as much pain. The blood drained causes it to become unconscious so the animal doesn't feel pain again

If Sikhism is all about compassion, as indeed mentioned in the video, then eating in fast foods should be considered more prohibited than Halal meat. The real concern that Sikhs have is not about Halal meat per se, but rather if there was a *ritual slaughter* involved, which apparently he did not mention in the video. Regarding the topic of animal cruelty, the EEG recorded severe pain after stunning, as opposed to the ventral neck incision (halal). The retention of more blood in the meat after stunning results in unhygienic meat for the consumer, as opposed to VNI, which also makes it fresh for a longer period of time. One thing he also forgot to adress are animals with BSE (mad cow desease)... "For this reason, the USDA requires that all *brain and spinal cord materials* be removed from high-risk cattle " This isn't quite the case when stunning animals may lead to the scattering of brain tissue.

There are many restrictions in halal way example knife should be shard so that we dont have to put lot of force on animal and so that it doesn't take long time. It should be done at once so that animal doesn't feel pain for long time One animal should not be cut infront of other animal and many more.

Why are there so many mad Muslims? Sikhs are just not permitted to eat meat that was slaughtered in a ritual. This includes halal and kosher. It’s a difference in the religions not an attack on your religion. Move on.

Its not matter of halal or jhatka its really matters that sikh brothers are following their guru with honesty and firmly.

To be honest, he's right about the halal part. But the fact is we don't know whether cutting the spine in one go causes pain or not. Slitting the throat during halal must cause pain irrespective of whether jugular veins are cut or not because pain receptors still work for few minutes and the brain still works for few minutes before it goes dead. Few moments of oxygen or blood cut to the brain won't cause the brain to stop functioning immediately. Neither the neuro receptors and neurons in our brain would stop working suddenly. So, yeah it's bound to cause pain to the animal. But jhatka probably should also cause pain. How that pain would work is a bit hard to comprehend. So, the best is to abstain from meat consumption if you're really concerned about pain to animals. And it's actually hypocrisy to talk about how Halal is a humane way. You follow halal because it's been written in your books, that's it.

Firstly halal slaughtering is very merciful brothers. You may watch any informative video on it. Halal meat is healthy too. And as for the method: First you must give the Animal water. Second: separate it from the other animals as to prevent the other animals from witnessing the slaughtering. 3rd; calm the animal, cover its eyes. Use a sharp and fine knife so it won't hurt. And starting from the front causes an immediate death. It severs the jugular and let's the blood completely drain.

Does this also apply to normal slaughtered meat where sometimes the meat is slaughtered in more of an inhumane process such as ringing them up by the legs and stunning them with electricity (in which the animal feels everything but cannot respond)? What would the sikh opinion be on this type of meat being eaten or is just Halal meat that is forbidden?

I just wanted to say that pain receptors are located in the skin, not only the spinal cord. It's true that with jhatka the animal dies quickly, and this would be merciful as it saves the animal pain. However the blood is not allowed to be drained fully before it dies. Most diseases are carried by blood, and consumption of blood can cause sickness even if properly cooked, so it's vital to get the blood out while at the same time having mercy on the animal, which is the aim of halal. All muslims commenting here doesnt know shit about science. I am a med student and will try to explain using human anatomy. Pain reception is function of different tracts of spinal cord . When you just destroy the spinal cord, a being dies of stoppage of body functions controlled by ans and pns. For example in complete or in complete transverse section of spine at level of cervical vertebrae mostly results in death in humans or cesation of stimuli preception in part of body lower to injury. For a layman, what will be any easy death your throat slit or decapitated. Don't just believe what your imam says.

Sikhs are my favorite people in the world. I believe Sikhs follow the teachings of Guru Sahab better than us Muslims follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. That said, I still believe that Halal meat is better for human consumption than Jhatka even though the latter is less cruel to the animal. But again, killing an animal is cruel in itself. If one is concerned about this, they can always go vegan, Prophet Muhammad himself was a very seldom meat eater. Should you choose to eat meat, why not go Halal and make sure that all the blood (containing toxins) drains out. Either way, I appreciate the Sikh philosophy of people kind to animals. Sat Sri Akaal. No disrespect intended but bro you got it twisted. A key function behind the Halal slaughtering method is to minimize the suffering of the slaughtered animal. To the point that the meat of the animal becomes haram (forbidden) to eat once it reaches a specified threshold of suffering. I dont believe the Guru you are referring to actually advised his followers to stay away from halal meat.

I agree with the starting part of the video where he says 'you do it or you don't because the Guru said so', because that's what faith is all about. Unfortunately he doesn't stop there and goes into the science of it and quite evidently without the right knowledge saying things like pain sensors, bereham etc. I respect his religious knowledge but science should be left for the people of science. Saying such things as a spiritual leader is extremely ignorant and misleading. As a doctor I can confirm that from a purely scientific standpoint halaal meat is by far the most clean and consumable form of meat(even kosher is similar). Keep all preconceived notions aside and think about it for a second. When we are ill what is the first laboratory test we do? A simple blood test. Since that's where we can find all the toxins and bacteria in our body. By doing jhatka you are transecting the spinal cord there by eliminating the ability of the animal's muscles to contract. The blood stagnates within in the meat making it toxic. Even if we assume that the blood of the animal is clean and the animal is healthy, we're still drastically reducing the shelf life and consuming meat high in cholesterol. Even my non Muslim colleagues in the hospital prefer halaal meat any day. As far as pain is considered, firstly we cannot make that a criteria for animal slaughter because then we would be contradicting our selves as meat consumers. However, when this respectful guru says 'pain sensors' and points it to the back of the neck, it's absolute nonsense. When you're doing jhatka you're breaking/snapping the neck of the animal. The animal goes into a state of paralysis so there's no way you can guage the pain being felt, just because the animal is not moving doesn't mean it's not feeling the pain. On the other hand though, a small sharp knife is used for halaal because it allows you to slit the major blood vessels of the animal keeping the neck and the spinal cord intact, allowing for twitching of the muscles draining most of the blood, sending the animal into a state of fainting and eventual death, giving you clean meat. I respect my Sikh brothers and their practices but it's my sincere request to the religious leaders to abstain from saying things without knowledge that put people of a certain faith in bad light. An ordinary sikh without any scientific background listening to this lecture would blindly believe that Muslims are 'bereham'.

I feel like although jatka is allowed a Sikh shouldn't eat it unless it's a matter of life and death... Mahraj allowed jatka but times were different in anandpur.. Food was limited and I felt like jatka of the animals was done to end their misery instead of starving them and making them suffer.. Again these are my views so it's up to you

Cutting the jugular vein and oesophagus stops the blood/oxygen supply to the brain and with the loss of blood the animal ceases to feel pain and dies. Cutting through the nerves and spinal cord which is far more difficult and therefore likely be slower would cause even more pain felt by the animal as your are cutting thru the ‘pain receptors’.

Just imagine pain and suffering an animal goes through just to satisfy our tounges . This isn't about religion but about humanity in us which has power to reduce someone's suffering no other creature can do that only we can. I know it's hard to leave meat but at least we must have an intent slowly our intent will manifest in action.

Aside from Halal and Kosher, there is virtually no difference between Sikh food and non-Sikh food, because blood is contained.

I am a orthodox christian but Ranjeet Sinkh (who was a Sikh) from 1977 show ”Mind your language” brought me here. Before him i had no idea that this religion exists. Learned many things about it.

I think you are not uneducated when it comes to Halal meat. Here are some simple/general rules of Halal meat that you may missed when you never did the research. 1) the knife that is used must be Sharp and big enough for the slaughter of the animal. 2) the animal that is slaughtered must not thirsty. 3) the animal must not be slaughtered in front of the other animal. 4) the animals head must be chopped off/cut as soon as you can to minimize the pain. 5) the animals being slaughtered must be blessed by reading the special prayer 6) Ones slaughtered, the each part of the animal must be cleaned thoroughly and the blood must be drained out from the system. 7) Pregnant animals must not be slaughtered And the list goes on.... You big great " NoNo" comes from lack of knowledge my friend. How can you expect people to accept a religion who's fundamentals cannot be questioned just because someone (i.e Guru) said so? Peace

Something in my heart tells me to stop eating meat but not being able to. This is my journey to figure it out in the future if i should or continue eating those 2 meat only.
