That relationship with Meg is absolutely astounding. Even within Lion prides things get very dicey around a kill as they go into a feeding frenzy eating according to hierarchy. For him to be so intimately close and her just fully focused on what she was doing without minding him being there...its amazing. This video was a 10.

I think the relationship that Kevin has with the animals and the fact that they don’t see him as food is one of the things that make these videos so amazing and beautiful. What we get to see is that lions, like many of the wild animals that are on this planet, are capable of far more than the simplistic life they are often portrayed to have. They are thinking and feeling creatures who are far more dynamic in their relationships and views of their world than we give them credit for and that is why we should all work to ensure they are safe, protected and given the space and opportunity to thrive and continue to be wild.

I'm so glad you've made a proper video addressing this. Anyone with a smidge of knowledge about animal behavior would know that animals don't operate on an on/off switch. They have feelings and personalities of their own along with the capability to form relationships. Take both lions and wolves as example, relationship between parent and child or group member to group member. They don't see their unit members as food in the wild so why would they in captivity. Even between two different species such as you and the lions or the common person with their dog or cat. The amount of times I've seen stupid comments saying you'll be eaten is astounding. I've always said to people, that when someone gets killed by an animal there is something going on that people don't see: stress, abuse, ignorance, ego, etc. That's why I've always believed you'd be fine, you have respect for these animals and take the time to learn the individual personalities and behavior. You don't use force or fear, you let them make their own decisions. You've rescued, cared for, and loved them. You're awesome!

Great vid Kevin, really good to see some archive footage of Amy. The vid shows that no matter the type of relationship you have with the Lions, they are still very much wild animals with the killer instinct. Keep up the great work that you and all the workers at the sanctuary do.

They still have all the instincts they would’ve had if they were in the wild. It’s eye-opening to see Meggie go from loving to a hunter in a matter of minutes, but it’s the natural order of things. I recently saw a video from Kerziah & Alvin where they visited your foundation/park and if anyone wants to knoooow how his lions acts without Kevin there you should go watch that video. Full on believe that if a tourist ignored the warning signs from those cats they would be that night's dinner and there'd be nothing the workers and volunteers or Kevin could do about it. It's easy to forget when Kevin is filming that these are big, wild mfs. With paws the size of our face. If they felt so inclined to see you as a threat they'd have no issue with turning you into past tense. Kevin is only able to do what he does, because the prides truly see him as one of their own, but if Kevin fcked around with that bond, he'd also find out just how dangerous lions can be. They may act like domestic house cats, because domestic cats are NOT that far removed from their ancestors unlike dogs (you can clearly see this in how cats hunt, stalk, catch and eat, they have the same butt wiggle, the same zeroed in look, the same paw raise before leaping they are essentially tiny wild cats we let into our houses cause they caught and killed mice), but they are NOT domestic house cats.

(Maybe both? Are some enrichment walks also hunting walks?). I think the difference is they aren’t captive. They’re free to leave on any of the walks and have gained plenty of hunting experience that way. I also believe the reason why he doesn’t end up mauled like others with big cats is he doesn’t treat them like he owns then. He respects them and participates as a member of the pride while also giving them access to pretty much anything they’d have in the wild.

While working for a organic hatchery, I stumbled on a 1 year old cougar in a snare. I waited until she was sleepy, talked softly to her, pet her, then slowly released her foot from the snare. She left quietly, I thought that would be the end of it, but she visited me every so often. 3 years later when she had he first litter, ( 2 ) she made a den a few feet from my campsite. Everyday I dropped salmon at her door, so she wouldn't need to leave her babies. The babies would play around my fire pit, I didn't dare touch them with momma watching...she returned to the area for her second litter but I didn't see her again after those cubs were born. It's amazing the bonds that form between man and beast

Our pets dogs and cats also follow their instincts! No matter what we humans choose to eat meat veggies, could be a gruesome story. It’s a choice of what one wants to believe!!!! It’s Awesome to see your lions living their natural instincts!!! Thank you!🤗

Excellent video! Not often we get recording of a lion kill so up close. On another topic, I wonder if the "not going to eat the human near me" is a function of time. All other things being equal, would a hungry lion you spent a year with be more likely to eat you than a hungry lion you spent 10 years with? Or is it the same chance? I wonder.

Glad to see that the lions still know how to hunt! And I love how you are a part of the pride. Them allowing you to get so close to watch them eat. Honestly, I think they expect you to eat with them haha.

Thanks Kevin, for reminding everyone that wild animals are not Walt Disney animals! Our perception of wildlife has shifted dramatically ever since we cut ourselves from Nature, by "hiding" in cities, or insisting on transforming our environnement to suit our needs. Too many humans have forgotten how to respect animals, trees, plants, waters, and that our whole existence depends entirely on them! We have a lot to relearn from Indeginous People around the world.

Obviously you figured out your relationship over a long period of time with these animals, but I am very surprised how close Meg allows you to get to her fresh kill without feeling like she had to defend it or move you off of it. How did you come to find out where those limitations are? As comfortable as she is with you, I'm sure that if you didn't give Meg her due respect that she would get upset with you and / or harm you, so I'm curious: what are some things you think would be crossing the line with the lions? And how did you know which boundaries they had towards you without putting yourself in danger, i.e. getting that close to Meg's kill? Did you have a mentor or was it purely through your own personal experience with the individuals? But yeah fascinating stuff, thanks very much Kev!!

Meg is an awesome Hunter. Her instincts, behavior and capabilities do not go away because she lives in captivity it can be sad but she is the top of the food chain this is what lions do to survive. Meg destroys the myth that lions in captivity cannot hunt and be successful because they were not taught by other lions. So yes I enjoy watching Meg on a hunt and that she has the opportunity to do so. Because of you and your team she is a well-rounded beautiful lioness I wish that every Lion in captivity had this opportunity

I think when humans were more in tune with nature we were more likely to befriend large animals, it's because we lost touch with nature that we separate ourselves from the relationships we could have with all nature. It makes sense they don't eat you, they are just as capable of love as any other living soul and they do love you as one of their own. We could all have more wonderful relationships like this if we were more in tune with even just the domesticated animals around us. I found a channel on RU-vid where this guy makes friends with and raises insects, it sounds weird at first but all it took was one of his videos to make me see insects differently, I went from running screaming terrified of bees to watching his videos and watching them, respecting them and even thinking they're kinda cute and interesting, it just depends on how we as humans look at things. If we change our outlook on " dangerous animals" they might not seems so bad. Thanks for the upload, it was treat seeing her hunt that was amazing, so proud of her, I know the animals she hunted are in Heaven now.

Keeping their nature still though they live in an enclosure is what we are so grateful about you Kevin . These animals are blessed having you . I think though that when one see some kind of accidents when dealing with wild animals it’s mostly they are taken away from their habitat . I wonder if she eats the kill right there or you take it to give it to her later .

Since you’re perceived as part of the family/pride, and since lions can be fighting from time to time to find their rank/place in the pride, or for food, did you ever got any trouble where they were treating you like they’re treating other lions, meaning, being more “aggressive” for what a human should support (you know, scratch from paws, claws, teeth, etc… your skin isn’t like a lion skin)
@MostIntelligentMan

he has to be aware of that with hyenas, but lions dont really have strict rank, like they eat all same time and he doesnt try get their food so there is no issue

@MostIntelligentMan
@MostIntelligentMan 2 года назад
@@Shizuka136 yes he got attacked by hyenas, its not attack to kill, just hyenas have internal fights to determine the rank in group, after that he was much more careful to watch for politics in pack and then all good, with lions is much more simple, either u are part of the pride or u not, any outsider is kill on sight, but internaly only if there is two males and a female in heat they might fight over that but not much more

Of course it's sad an herbivore lost its life but carnivores will hunt, its not like they could just go to their local McDonald's and order a burger. It's very important we preserve these animals as they have many roles that keep the ecosystems healthy. Herbivores act as a seed dispersal method for plants and can eat harmful or invasive plants among other things. Carnivores help keep the herbivore population in check as too many herbivores can eat too many plants and can lead to wiping out plant species. Nature needs both herbivores and carnivores to be able to balance itself without causing overpopulation. We as humans need to care more about the environment since we're a big reason as to why it's disappearing.
