Sir there is a rumor that utah jazz scout is looking in Kai Sotto in the NBL, is there a possibility that they are planning to replace GOBERT with a young player and have an offensive arsenal and can be good defensively?
@brakstonmorgan8473
@brakstonmorgan8473 2 года назад
I’m a faithful Utah jazz fan and I get anxious every time gobert touches the ball anywhere below his head so this is a true analysis. On the flip side I laugh every time the opposing team drives, sees gobert, and just dribbles out to reset the offense. If you really watch the jazz you see that gobert is 90% of the jazz’s defense
@Phonsuk
@Phonsuk 2 года назад
I like the jazz too. But Gobert, even though their best defender is their weakest link. Because on offense he has no low post move, only catches lobs and tries to tip the rebound to himself. On defense, he's only good on help defense and will get beat by the guard on the drive if offense isolates him on pick and roll.

Based on all these highlights, how then did Ingles have so much success in the pick and roll with Gobert? It would've been cool to see you compare Ingles with Mitchell/Conley. Possibly makes Ingles even better than he was rated. He also had a great pick and roll chemistry with Favours.
@Blue-no4jt
@Blue-no4jt 2 года назад
Success? What success? The tweet featured in this video said that Ingles PASSED the ball to Gobert 174 times, not that Ingles got 174 assists off of Gobert. Ingle’s role on the team is more of a facilitator whereas Mitchell is the team’s primary scorer. That’s why Ingles has a much higher assist percentage in general, which has nothing to do with Gobert. Mitchell isn’t even the teams PG. Coach Nick is right to say that Gobert is trash whenever he gets the ball in his hands and it will become more and more of a problem in time. Who cares about Ingles. He’s even less important than Gobert and there’s pretty much one wing player on every playoff team in the NBA who can function as a secondary playmaker and the same thing he can. In the modern NBA, this role was made popular by Iguodala on the Warriors. It became just another must have ROLE PLAYER as point guards started transitioning more into focusing on scoring. Having a point forward unlocks your point guards ability to play offball. Mitchell isn’t really a PG, but the same thing applies here. That’s why they got Ingles.

Ingles plays different then Mitchell. Ingles plays with a slow pace. Not to mention Ingles attracts less defensive pressure then Michell. Teams sent double teams or traps to make Michell give up the ball. On the other hand Ingles doesn't get this much attention from other teams so he's more wide open to make plays. If Coach was to show film you would see Ingles be more wide open, have more space to find lobs to Gobert, bounce passes and sorts. You compare that to Michell who is always being swamp by teams defense and being closely followed and not wide open to make plays.
@themetalpig7613
@themetalpig7613 2 года назад
@@javierlandaverde4108 yeah I agree Mitchell gets more attention, so shouldn't he/the team adjust to trying to throw passes to Gobert. I agree Gobert has major flaws with his handling but it seemed some of these passes in the highlights weren't very good/were under high pressure. Without looking at the stats, I thought Ingles had quite a high efficiency with his passes to Gobert. Could be wrong, just having a discussion, in the hope some will have a friendly discussion without the kind of reply like the first guy in this comments section.

Ingles had an old man game- an old man game good enough to be in the nba ..... what’s an old man game You ask ? Ingles never relied on physical dominance- he would make the best decision and mix it up enough to keep a defense honest- that’s how he made space. The defense can collapse on Mitchell- he’s predictable- and he can make space, but only for himself to score - he is a weaker version of Westbrook.... it’s not gonna age well or an injury could put an Immediate end to his ability......

I agree with Gobert problems but two IMPORTANT things : 1. When money times approaches, Donovan Mitchell wants to be the hero, so the ball is shared less and bad shots are taken. This has cost many games. 2. Responsibility comes from Synder that is unable to adjust in playoffs The few times I watched Ingles playing pick and roll with Gobert, it was way more efficient than with Mitchell + Gobert. IMO you put Doncic with Gobert, I'm pretty sure they'll be both way more dangerous than Mitchell + Gobert Utah isn't going to go deep in playoffs with Mitchell and Synder and I'm pretty sure that if they get kicked in the 1st or 2nd round, a trade and/or a cut (coach) will happen. Finally, Rudy Gobert is able to be very good at the offensive end, just got to watch French national team where the coach knows how to use him on this side

What are some good dexterity drills for guys with big hands? I feel like because they grow up playing where they can just hold it high and depend on handstrength until they get to the NBA, they don't develop good ball skills to gather and hold on with their chest muscles to power through swipes. If he doesn't learn to Z the ball from his chin to up high, it might be a good idea to play 5 out and for him to work up to being 33% from the 3 point line and being a offensive rebounding dive guy that just sets picks up high.

@@sickotapes haha. It's easier to teach an awkward big guy to shoot a set shot than to teach him ball skills after a certain age unless the trainer is a big man himself. If he can shoot 65% from the FT line, hitting 33% of open shots from the arch is doable. Kinda like what Don Nelson tinkered with Manute Bol for an year. The positive is that Rudy could have to run less and be out of the way and it's easier to defend the rim if he's first guy back on defense. The negative is that he can't get on offensive glass but it seemed he was having trouble putting them back in anyways from the video

The NBA is about playing your role. Gobert is comfortable with less touches and he's at his best when setting screens and battling for positioning for a rebound. He's an elite shot blocker and absolutely makes it tough for teams to score easily in the paint. The jazz just need more perimeter shot creators/scorers at the 4 and 3 to help Donovan with scoring touches. Guys like gobert are valuable when used in a system that lets them be comfortable within their strengths. Again the jazz just need to add pieces that help alleviate scoring pressure of Donovan Mitchell.

Gobert's first move so often is to bring the ball down, where he just doesn't have the level of control needed and is easily picked off. I'd have thought this would be a coaching thing - surely Jazz have the staff to notice and coach up... Genuinely think he would average 20ppg and 12+ rpg paired with Luka, Steph etc. Wanted to say Trae too, but his passes require far softer hands than Rudy will ever showcase.

@ouyang8238
@ouyang8238 2 года назад
I think this is partially due to the stagnate skillset of Gobert. Over the years he hasn't developed much of an offensive game, relying mainly on lobs and not "creating" his own offense from teammates. So the only way to increase the teams efficiency is to relocate these touches to somewhere else. But this has made their offense very reliant on the performance of their stars like Mitchell to consistently provide offense when productive players like Conley aren't who they used to be. This concept kind of reminds me of Harden's team when he avg. 36pts: an efficient offense that was extremely lethal when everything is good, but when the star is having an off night, they struggle to find anything offensively. Maybe this is why they keep on blowing leads and stuff because when the 4th quarter comes and players start to play at higher energy and more intense pace, stars like Mitchell now have to carry a greater load while being under more defensive pressure. This kind of heliocentric basketball does end well when your role players can't feed off of open opportunities. So then, the defense could just sit on your best player and then load the paint because of Gobert.

@@anthonydelmonte1986 I think that Gobert’s skillset could be expanded during the off-season. All on-court experience comes from the fact the during the off-season players put in the work and effort to improve their game and skillset. And whether the coach allows you to do that is up to trust and relationship. Currently, I don’t think there’s trust between Snyder and Gobert. I call BS on this. You can find highlights of any player getting stripped or fumbling the ball in traffic. And even if Gobert gets stripped more than others, it's the job of the guards/ballhandlers to make the RIGHT DECISION. When Gobert is open, GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL. That's your job. It's his to keep it in his hands and finish. And he's one of the best finishers in the league. I can live with him fumbling a ball here or there when he's finishing somehting like 80% of his shots around the rim. Also - the FTs - He's shooting 70% from FT this year! SEVENTY! If he gets fouled every single possession the Jazz would have offensive efficiency of 140!!!!! ONE HUNDRED AN FOURTY! This is 20 higher than the best offense of all times!

The Jazz have had quite a disappointing season compared to last year nonetheless the injuries. I do blame Mitchell quite a bit as well as he shoots way more than he passes. Like others have pointed out, a guy like Luka would work the pick n roll well with Gobert. Look at how many pick and rolls Luka has with Dwight Powell especially. He finds Powell open for lobs several times a game. No reason why that can't happen with the even taller Gobert other than Mitchell or Conley finds him at the rim more often.
