Thank you for the nice words! 🤘 The main difference between 5-wheel and 4-wheel frames, is the enhanced stability, due to the longer wheelbase in combination with the relatively low ride-height. That makes swivelling easier (and safer), and riding stairs and landing jumps too. A long wheelbase with more contact points also makes for a smoother ride over rough surfaces, like cobblestones and such. On a shorter 4-wheel frame like a 4x90, the rocker's more pronounced, so you can do more aggressive swivelling. That comes at the price of less stability. I love 4x90, but somehow I always seem to gravitate towards 5-wheel frames.

Thank you! 🤘 Yeah, I got the impression 5-wheel frames are underrated for urban skating, while I feel they're just great for tackling all kinds of obstacles and surfaces. It's even a bit strange to see such frames mostly being used on flat ground, because when you look at the videos of Wizard Skating and NN Skates, you see _those_ riders jumping on and off obstacles all the time. Almost everything Shaun and Alex from Flow Skate do, is integrating obstacles and weird structures into their flow. Stairs, ledges, banks, you name it. That's the path I want to follow. 🙂
@@TheRollingRaptor but its understandable. The 1mm rocker wont really work if your ground is rough since the roughness is bigger than the rockering of your skates.

Looking forward to watching this in full, I'm after a wizard banana frame but what puts me off the 5 wheelers is having a smaller wheel when a lot of our roads and pavements are rough as fuck here, I'm routinely out on 3x110 to make the best of it
Yeah, rough roads are not agreeable to small wheel sizes. But in some cases, a longer wheelbase with small wheels is more comfortable than a short wheelbase with big wheels. With a five wheel frame, it’s easier to put more weight on the back wheels, which makes a big difference. Cobblestones for example are easier on long frames. But rough asphalt requires big wheels, no question about that.
3x110 is also my daylie driver on everithing including even dirt and gravel. Im my area the cities are always fighting against each other, who needs to pay for the streets inbetween the borders. That i you often run into a 20-50 metre dirt- or gravel road inbetween those parts..... Im extremely sceptical about how well that would work with 80mm wheels but gkadly there is always a perfect skates for a specific situation. Next skate will be powerslide arise and maybe than ill buy a 5 wheel frame for my powerslide next skate.
@@blackyraypatrick9041 I've been skating a 3x110 with a 243mm wheelbase a lot the last few weeks and it's awesome. It performs well on rough asphalt, though it's not as smooth on cobblestones as a five wheel frame. But you're right: even though the perfect allround skate doesn't exist, there _is_ a perfect skate for every situation. That Powerslide Arise skate looks _very_ sweet!
@@TheRollingRaptor it really does look so or :D would give it a custom colour theme. The cool thing Powerslides Logo (PS) are also the initials of my name (P) atrick (S) . So it would be really custom even with my name on it :P My skating style is a bit more fitness orientated but im still always in urban areas and skating rough terrain. Powerslides and spin breaks should alsways be a possibility. Thats why I think the arise would fit my style the best. A speedskate lacks all the urban skating abilities but the arise is ligher and offering a better marathon performance which i also sjate ones in a year in Berlin. Did I say how much i love your youtube name?

@@SaccoBelmonte For me, with my length _and_ clumsiness, a 4x80 is too short for riding big staircases. I just don't feel comfortable. While I'm totally at ease bashing big stairs on a 5-wheel frame. 🙂 But you're right, Some people do use a 4x80 for stair riding, without any problem. Their technique often is way more advanced than mine. 😀
Man... Just the other day I was telling my wife how manoeuverable yet super stable my Endless Arc 5 are. I suppose it's even more swively than the frame you're riding here because its got three inner 76 mm wheels. I also ride 4x80 , 4x84 and 4x90 Endless frames, but nothing feels like the five wheeled ones. They're a beast of a different kind! (A 4x100 is on the way too! 😅) By the way, I'm pretty sure Maurice will soon be the one teaching you some tricks, Tim!
Yeah, the Endless Arc is quite something. I haven't tried it, but I've seen a lot of footage and some friends adore riding it. There's not only the three 76mm inner wheels, but also the different rockering options for the outer wheels. I think those make all the difference. I look forward to the day Maurice will surpass me. I'd be immensely proud. 🙂 And in fact, I already am when I see him trying new things and having fun on wheels. 😉
@@TheRollingRaptor I'm stupid and forgot to buy the extra axles that allow the more extreme rockering with the Arc 5s, but given how impressively maneuverable they already are, at first I can't even imagine why they'd be necessary. I mean... The stock rockering makes them feel as swively as a traditional slalom setup (76-80-80-76 in a flat base), but way more stable. Well... I probably can't see its use because I'm not such a good skater. 🤷🏼♂️
Still considering NN Ronin 4x100 or NN Ninja 5x80. 200cm tall and 305mm long boot. I need to replace a factory 255mm frame on Twister XT. What will be better for me. I am a beginner with passion :)
@@zywcu The NN Ronin is fun, but the NN Dragon 5x80 (the Ninja is 4x90) is even more fun. A 5x80 is not as fast as a 4x100, but it feels more versatile. The lower ride height gives more lateral stability. More wheels makes it easier to learn swivelling. The long wheelbase also smooths out rough surfaces beter than a 4x80. What is best for you, depends on what skating you're planning to do. If you want to skate distances and go fast, the 4x100 is the way to go. And you can still swivel with it and do all kinds of wizard tricks. The 5x80 is more focussed on wizard and urban skating, less on speed and riding distances. But it's not a slow frame either.
Nice vid as always dude! Regarding your request for the questions, here you go: how would you compare the feeling of rockered 5x80 vs. rockered 4x90? Both seem like a nice all-arounders with balance of agility and stability. Wonder what's your witty take on that.
Big thanks! 🤘 And a very interesting question. A rockered 4x90 indeed is a great allround frame as well. I think 4x90 is more playful - sometimes even feels like a nervous little brat. Due to the shorter wheelbase, it feels more nimble than 5-wheel frames - even a 5x72 has got a longer wheelbase. It’s also relatively light. At the same time, the big wheels make it fast. I like 4x90 frames for urban skating, stair riding and bowl carving. Five-wheel frames add some extra stability. Due to the longer wheelbase, a 5x80 doesn’t feel as nimble as 4x90. A 4x90 is better suited for some fast paced swivelling, but on a 5x80 you feel more at ease flowing through lions and gazelles. The extra stability also makes stair riding feel safer and smoother. A 5x80 is less manoeuvrable in a bowl, but feels more secure. Also, when jumping gaps, I prefer 5-wheel frames, just because of that slightly larger footprint. The downside is the extra weight. Combined with the obvious extra length, a 5x80 can feel cumbersome for some people. (Though I don’t really mind the extra weight and am used to the length.) The last half year or so, I’m strongly gravitating towards 5-wheel frames for long urban skate flows, while I take my 4x90s out for shorter, but more intense action flows. I hope this makes sense in a way?

Just grab your favourite boot and exchange frame configurations to discover and learn and enjoy... but I digress... So interesting to hear that the 5x80 is your choice for long urban skate flow while mine currently is 3x125 which feels like a total opposite. 3 big wheels give me this nice attenuation on rough surfaces and a great crousing (almost like flying) on a smooth surface. But I'm definitely trying 5x80 or 4x90 sometime soon. Thank you for your insight!
@@aDAMopol I like 3x125 a lot for speeding through the city, but I feel limited when tackling obstacles. (For me, an 'urban skate flow' means skating from spot tot spot. 😉) Staircases with low, wide steps are doable, but steeper staircases and big gaps feel sketchy with such big wheels.
I have a new Flying Eagle Liberty 5X80 frame at home and will try to mount it on the cheap Oxelo MF500 boot (which you have tested many times) just to have a pair of five wheels laying around. May be moving the frame to a more expensive boot if I enjoy it enough :)
Cool! Sounds like a sweet setup to get into wizard and flow skating. Good idea to assemble such a combo! With the right liner, that Oxelo MF500 becomes a very good boot - you wouldn’t even have to get a more expensive boot. With an FR1 liner or a Foryos CJ liner, the MF500 immediately feels like a legit top skate.
I think the NN Dragon+ Trinity, mounted on my Powerslide Next, remains my favourite. Of course, the Wizard Advanced is very cool too. And I do love the Rockin' 572 as well. I've got several videos on all of those frames, have a look at my channel page! 🤘
I think 3x110. Because you can get the most speed with that setup and speed always helps to smooth out bad surfaces. For me, 5x80 also works pretty good on cobblestones, but not really on very rough asphalt. 3x100 is a setup I don't recommend. (It's my least favourite setup. 🙂)
First of all: the editing is gold. Way to put them in the zone. Second: your videos is making it really hard on me deciding between 4x90's or the 5 wheels. I'm like an 11.5 (45) and would be using it for city flow, maybe some skate parks. I skated aggro back as a kid and just jumped back in w some Them 909's on sale. What do you think?
Thank you! 🤘🙏 I think a 4x90 would be rather short for your large feet. Probably a 4x100 would feel more stable. But of course, a five wheel frame is stable by default, with that longer wheelbase. If you've already got those Them 909s in the first place, I'd go for a 5-wheel UFS frame - maybe a 5x76mm. Such a frame offer enough stability for your large feest, and is still very manoeuvrable (more so than a 4x100 or 4x110). And the great thing is: you can swap the middle wheel for an H-block, like Rockin's. That way, your swivelly 5-wheel frame suddenly because a 4-wheel aggressive frame. 🙂
Haha. Tipping back to favoring 5x now, then! I was looking at Endless Arc w/ 80/76... I think it's a 324mm wheelbase. I think it was described as a more mild rocker than NN's, with the option to add rocker if desired. Those were the two brands I was looking at which are similar price and readily available here in the US. But yea, it felt amazing to be on skates again. These videos make rockered larger wheel skating look like a dream come true.

As an update: I went with the 5-wheel Arc ES (large frame) and really diggin it so far. I went to the park and still remember how to drop into a small quarter pipe. I'm really missing the h-block, lol, but I could probably fabricate something in the future if it comes to it. I'm definately fabbing some outside frame plates for grinds. Can't wait to get better and hit the city! Oh, I realized I need to work on weakside gazelles. Never paid attention to how 1-side dominant my skills were.

I rather like dropping in without an H-block, grippy wheels feel safer than a slippery piece of plastic - but that's just because I only started riding skates with an H-block a couple of months ago. 🙂 Rockin' sells separate H-blocks to mount on 5-wheel frames, but I don't know whether they'll fit on the ARC. Yeah, working on your weakside skills is something we often forget. But I kind of like how everything feels new on your weak side, even when you've totally mastered something on your strong side. Gazelles are easily doable on your weak side, wait till you try lions! That's quite something else. 😉

I'm breaking into slalom and wizard skating and just got a nice pair of Seba carbon boots that are 165 for slalom and wondering if I should hold off on wizard frames like NN+ or Endless Arc for when I decide to get a UFS boot.
Thank you! Yeah, skating with my kids is one of the nicest things I can imagine. And it’s kind of cool my 7y old daughter gets mad when she hears I went to the skatepark without her. 😅 Recently, I bought my 9y old son a pair of Powerslide Khaan Junior Pro skates. Quite expensive, but he’s skating so intensely, his cheap Decathlon fitness skates couldn’t keep up any longer. As for UFS vs 165: I daren’t make big statements about the difference. In principle, you should have more control on UFS due to the lower ride height. And I think that’s what I feel as well. On my FR1 Dragon setup, it feels like I have to take the extra distance between the wheels and my feet into account. (I wonder if that makes any sense at all.) Swivelling on one of my UFS rockered frames, seems to be slightly easier. But on the other hand: most slalom skates are 165mm. And I reckon slalom skating requires even more precise control than wizard skating. So I think it’s not necessarily about the mounting system, but also about the kind of boot you’re riding. The FR1 essentially is a freeskate, with a sturdy build that can take a beating, but not really meant for very precise control. UFS skates like the CJ Prime are aggressive skates: they have to be both resistant to big impacts and provide control for locking grinds. The combination of the fit and the low ride height does the trick in that case. But slalom skates like the FR Spin are 165, and still provide awesome control. That’s due to the way they’re designed and the materials used. I’ve been riding the FR Spin with the Rockin’ 576 for a couple of weeks now (the footage is waiting in the editing room) and in a way, it feels more like a UFS setup than a 165 freeskate. So I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use those Seba carbon boots for wizard skating as well. The NN Dragon+ or Endless Arc would be great choices.
Belgium is such a pain in the arse for picking up on skaters at train stations. I arrived by train to Brussels from Cologne with skates on and got immediately harassed by security they demanded to take my skate off asap I asked if there is any bench I can sit down they couldn't point me to one so I had to just sit down on grown in middle of station taking my skates off whilst these two security officers watching me entire time all just so that I would take 2 mins walk outside to put my skates back on.
Yeah, it's really annoying. You can't enter a railway station on skates without risking a ridiculously huge fine. And for what? Stupid rules. I mean, I can understand they don't want people skating on the platforms, but why prohibit it everywhere in the _station?_ Now, if you ask security beforehand if you're allowed to skate through the station in a responsible, calm way, they often let you through. But it's still annoying. On the other hand: I like skating through the station without any permission, knowing full well I'm taking a big risk. Makes it rather exciting. 😎

Thank you! With Insta360 cameras like the One X2 I'm using, you can change the angle of view mid-shot in post production, from tiny planet over ultra wide to narrow (and everything in between). I've got a sturdy Manfrotto selfiestick, but you can't see it, since it disappears in the blind spot between the camera's two 180º lenses that capture 360º footage. 🙂
I'm seriously considering a set now, but my concern is around my excessive weight pressures on the frames in the skate park environment as i weigh 130 kgs and i put some g forces on them - scared frames will break at either the front or back end, what do you think, is that possible, or the wheels, bearings or possibly Axel...?
Never heard of an aluminum frame breaking, to be honest. And I’d think a five-wheel setup distributes the impact across more wheels, with less pressure on each individual wheel. :-)

I'm brand new to learning skating in my late 40s and still trying to get the hang of it. I'm testing both the 4x80 and 4x72 because I wanted to see if smaller and softer wheels are more stable. My question is for someone whose primary concern is STABILITY, not speed or tricks, it sounds like 5 wheels are the most stable. Would you recommend that to a newbie?
Good question, thanks! It depends on what kind of stability you need. Smaller wheels are great for lateral stability, so you can keep your feet straight, longer frames are great for front and back stability, so you won’t fall forwards or backwards as easily. For you, a 5x76 could be interesting. Long enough to offer stability, but not too long and too heavy. The wheels are small enough to keep your feet close to the ground and still big enough to make some speed. (Because going slow is just no fun. 😉)
Several brands do sell sets of 10 wheels. Like NN Skates itself and Rockin' Frames. There's now also a new brand, Dream Urethane, that sells 80mm in both 8-wheel and 10-wheel packs. In a lot of skateshops, you can even order _any_ number of wheels. 🙂

Was interested in getting an NN frame of some sort. Hadn't really been thinking about 5 wheel frames but since I now know I don't like 3 wheel frames and prefer 4 wheel rockered frames maybe I should try a a 5 whieel frame. What one would you recommend from the ones you have?
Depends a bit on the boot you want to mount it on. 😊 I certainly love the NN Dragon+, which I’ve mounted on my Powerslide Next. It’s awesome for urban skating, it’s fast and I even love riding it in bowls. The 90mm front and back wheels are not as cumbersome as the 100mm wheels of the Advanced. I also love the Rockin’ MIX5, which is pretty similar, apart from the 90mm middle wheel. The Rockin’ MIX5 is a UFS frame that’s almost as low as a UFS 5x80. It’s a little less nimble than the Dragon+, but it’s even faster. The Dragon+ is also available for UFS and 165mm - though the Trinity design looks way sleeker. Of course, the NN Dragon is also big fun. The Rockin’ 572 could also be interesting: it’s made for both wizard and aggressive skating. (The middle wheel can be replaced with an H-block.)
I would. I think the extra stability is great for beginners. But be warned: make sure you've got the proper striding technique mastered. I know a beginner who tried the NN Dragon 5x80 and complained they were too heavy. Strange, because to me, that setup has never felt heavy. The problem is that he's not yet able to roll on one leg (even after many months of practice). When he's skating, he's like falling to one side, catching himself with his opposing leg, and falling to the other side again, and so on. He doesn't push himself with one leg to roll on his other leg, he's constantly trying to balance between both legs. And that's probably why the Dragon feels heavy for him: he's wasting most of his energy to staying upright, with nothing left to make some speed. But if you're past that, can confidently roll on one leg and know how to brake, then I'd say a 5-wheel frame would be great. 5x76 or 4x80: that's up to you. 🙂
Hello Tim, interresting that you prefer 5 wheels while not really being into wizard stuff. I'm quite interrested in the endless arc that seems really good. My rockin 4x100 is a little high but with my 2 meters, I love the lenght, more stable than 4x90 rockered. I have to change my boot, my UFR intuition is a little too big for my right foot (so, heel lift and bad power tranfer, and the UFR is already bad at it), so why not change the frame in the same time ^^ . on rought terrain, do you feel 5wheels are actually better than 4x90 or 4x100? Thx
Oh, but I most certainly _am_ into wizard stuff. I practise a lot on lions and stunamis and stuff. I just haven’t found a way to make those moves look interesting on camera (without asking a friend to do the filming). On rough terrain, it all depends on the length of the bad road and the speed you’ve got. Bigger wheels are easier to keep up your speed and thus smoothing out the roughness. But for short patches of cobblestones or bad asphalt, a 5x80 feels better if you make a lot of speed beforehand. Generally, the longer the wheelbase, the smoother the ride. That’s even true for a 5x72. But smaller wheels also lose their speed quicker. And the slower you go, the rougher the ride. That’s the dilemma. And that’s why I love my MIX5 frame so much: it’s a fast frame, with a long wheelbase, but still relatively low. Perfect. 😎

The Advanced provides a little more speed and smoother riding over rough surfaces and bumpy roads. It feels more nimble than a 5x80 (but that could be my imagination). The length and big 100 wheels make it heavier though _and_ riskier to do crossovers.
Depends, really, on what you want to do. Do you want to make speed and cover big distances? Then definitely go for bigger setups, like a 4x100 or 4x110. I also like 3x125. But I've also done 30km plus trips on my NN Dragon+, and that went perfectly. Last week, I even did a big sesh of about 20km (with lots of bowl skating and stair riding) on a 5x72 frame and even that worked out fine.
