I always get a laugh when anyone says, "fill in your pots with pool noodles to save soil". I did that several years ago, planted my plants in the pot and set it out on my deck. That night we had a heavy rain and the next morning.... All my plants were on my deck😢 . I like most of you thought that was a great idea, BUT, PLEASE REMEMBER POOL NOODLES WERE MADE TO FLOAT IN WATER. So if your not going to place your pot under a roof of some sort where the rain doesn't get to it DON'T DO THIS! I've heard several people saying to do this same thing. But not one tells you to only do this with pots your going to sit under a roof of some sort. HAPPY PLANTING!!

Master gardener here, don’t fill your plant pots with anything other than soil. You run the risk of root rot so much quicker and it’s just not really good for the roots in general. If you don’t want to buy potting soil to fill the whole planter, you’d be better off digging up some dirt from the ground and using that in the bottom rather than pool noodles! Also don’t use empty plastic bottles, rocks, or any other random thing people on the internet tell you to use!

My grandmother was a "plant master" and she always put rocks at the bottom of her pots, however she always had proper drainage out the bottom. I notice most of these pots had no drainage (if I observed correctly).

Let me make 1 correction on the flower planting. Always take a small sharp paring knife and GENTLY mess up the roots of your plants and flowers EACH AND EVERY TIME, no matter where you're planting. It will allow the roots to restart fresh in their new home. And I always REALLY big when I am using planters. I want to give my plants and flowers as much room to grow as I am able. But, I DO love the idea you had about the planters making holes!

For the condiment hack if you add a foil baking sheet with ice under it, it'll stay cool for hours. Great for charcuterie items too!

I thought the white planters were beautiful with the shrubs on the front porch…However, those shrubs need more room to grow. You would be wasting your money putting the same size plant into a planter with the same size opening as lovely as it is.

The thing about hot glueing placemats together for an outdoor pillow is that the glue will melt in the heat and your pillow will begin to fall apart with a slightly gooey mess.

I tried adding pool noodles chopped in bottom under the potting soil last yr. Never again. It keeps the plants from growing including container vegetables. Was a big mistake. Sorry.

Fill your pots with soil...the plants need the nutrients and each time you replant the pot you just top off to recharge the soil. Stop putting fillers in your pots

I have used empty water bottles, too. I leave the cap on the bottle; their irregular edges allow the dirt to filter around and fill the gaps and help prevent the dirt from compacting. They are very light weight, too, which makes the large pot easy to move.

I use empty soda and water bottles to fill large planters. Works great and since our town doesn't recycle it saves the plastic from the land fill.

Porch! Thank you for another video with amazing ideas. I use the Styrofoam sheets that line my home delivered meals in my planters. I break it in chunks for drainage at the bottom, then 'scratch' it as a substitute for the SPENDY Perlite!

Well, I’m definitely going to be using full noodles or perhaps, as another subscriber said, old planters, and empty water bottles in planters. I love the idea of using placemats to make pillows!!!!! Making a side table is a great idea and I’m gonna see if I can’t find a taller planter to use🤷🏽‍♀️

Every idea you shared was great!! The container for storing a water hose will only work with shorter hoses. I need a 100 ft one for my yard so I got an inexpensive strong metal hanger to affix to the wall next to my outdoor tap. Thanks so much. I ll use ice chest/ drink hack this weekend.
