I just harvested my first winter broccoli that I grew over the winter! So exciting! Also carrots! The bad news is I can’t plant anything right now because we are moving and I can’t put anything into the ground here. The good news is we are moving somewhere that has more land for a garden and animals, so in a month or two, I will have space to do whatever I want! Can’t wait!
Congrats on the veggies and the move! That’s too bad about not being able to plant. Hopefully your move goes quickly and you can at least buy some transplants somewhere.
You might still be able to seed start and keep them in trays (if you have the room, I know I didn’t because I moved halfway across the country and we gave away and got rid of so much stuff we’d accumulated over nearly 20 years😮). Congratulations on having more land! Thats what we did too, went from .28 of an acre to over 8! It’s been wonderful to expand my garden this year. So much to look forward to for you I bet! 👍🏻
I'm in Ohio... Picking my first radishes planted from American Seed(bought for 25 cents a pack at Dollar Tree) on January 4th, 2024. Dehydrating the tops and root tips for soup stock, and the radishes cut into discs to be rehydrated and used in soups and stir fry! Cheers!
Brad any suggestions for varieties to cook with? I only recently learned you can cook with them. In fact it was looking up the varieties in the gourmet blend pack from American Seed.😊 What sort of soup do you use them in? TIA.

Spot on😊 in the south, Feb may still be cold, but a great time for clean up, and preparation for spring and beyond. Read over last year's notes, make plans to rotate beds/pots, etc. If you didn't do in Jan like I didn't. BTW, seed potatoes are in all box stores now. However, at the bigger ones they had 4 small "plants" as labeled for $5. I got 4 lb bags for $7 at my local tractor supply. Happy gardening everyone
Careful though about starting tomatoes and peppers too early. No harm is getting them out a little later. They love blazing heat and if you’re area isn’t hot enough for transplant in April or may you’re wasting your time and seeds
We live south of Monkey Junction in an HOA regulated neighborhood. My husband is one of your loyal followers. As a literal square foot gardener, he’s created a “farm” in our fenced back yard. We thought that you might want to see it. We have spent years composting and keeping seeds where their ancestors roamed. Recently, I was cutting up a tomato that was sitting on the counter for some time. When I cut it, I thought that the tomato had worms. Further inspection showed that the white “worms” were actually sprouted seeds. I scooped them out of the tomato, and James planted the sprouts. They are doing well under our garage grow light. We would like to invite you over to see our square foot base. How can we make this happen? Becky and James Mills (Beau Rivage).
i started my peppers last week of january and just sowed tomatoes this week. I will be transplanting in March (TX). An old timer friend of mine is schooling me on planting by the moon so I will be doing that this year

It's February 3rd and I've been planning my Pennsylvania garden since December. I know for next year to start buying my plants/seeds in fall, great tip! This year, most of the seeds I plant will be ones that I've already owned from last year.
I just planted five fruit trees, and have seed starts growing for tomatoes, peppers, bunching onion, and bulbing onions. Some pepper varieties are either not germinating, or are slow to germinate. I've reseeded once, and am considering planting more bell peppers to make up for the seeds that didn't germinate. The starting trays are on a heat mat with temperature controlled by a thermostat. I have turnips ripening, so no need to plant more, but in a couple weeks I'll be sowing seeds for carrots, Swiss Chard, lettuce, mustard, tatsoi, golden beetroot, radishes, chives, and parsley. February is a busy month for me. My raised beds are covered with leaves. I'll be mixing them into the soil, and topping off with compost, or raised bed mix. I expect to start bringing in harvests long before most people in my area are getting started. The big push this year is getting ready for a spring plant sale, so I am planting hundreds more plants than I normally would. If it goes well, I'll repeat next year. If not, my losses will be minimal.
You’re ahead of me! Some peppers won’t germinate unless the soil is 85-90°F. Maybe they need more warmth, or maybe the seeds are old. I’ve had similar problems with onions this year. Subpar germination, unfortunately.
Peppers are finicky. Most want warm soil and the air needs to be warm too. Is their air warm enough? At least 60-70 at night, up to 80 daytime will assist germination. I'm in Central California, 9B, where peppers thrive and I won't start them for a couple of weeks yet even inside, 68F, with a heat mat & grow lights.
I reseeded with different seed stock, hoping it was bad seeds, but the same results. Most of my pepper varieties germinated quickly, and my onion germination was good too. The problem with seeds not germinating is I am reducing my pepper varieties from fifteen to ten, but still growing 60 plants. Seeds not germinating is an instant scratch off the growing list. Normally most pepper varieties do well for me.
We have a bunch of puzzles and he figures them all out in 1 minute. He’s too smart, but we really challenge him on a daily basis and he always rises to it.

@@angelashaw9765 I use Vivosun 1500w portable heater only if temps hit 40 or below. I bring out plants on shelves I cover on top & back until hardening so they get morning sun. So far I have great germination. Hope this helps.

I've already started some seeds in my basement room that I built a grow rack in. Just watching this channel makes me want to plant some of the few figs that are actually hardy here in northeastern MA, Zone 6b. I definitely want to add more fruit to my gardens this year!
I watched your vid putting bloom booster on your citrus. I did it to mine, and my avocado. They are covered in flower buds! I used The Jack's bloom booster.
Peppers are perennials. My pepper in a pot in my sunroom is 4 years old. If you don’t let them freeze and keep pruning and feeding them, they’ll live 5-10 years.
@@TheMillennialGardenertomatoes are also perennials in their native habitat. The indeterminate ones that is. I had 2 beefsteak of some variety that I used for 3 years. I'm 9B so normally mild winter. They were blooming in January!
You mentioned Territorial seeds, thank you! They are a fantastic company. I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. P.S. They carry a cherry tomato called "Orange Peruche" and it is my favorite of all time. I grow it every year. It is a standout!
All this was true when I was in SC. Where I am now, my earliest outdoor seeding for cooler temps is early April, with many things not going in the ground until May. I am starting our initial preparations, have all my seeds, trays, and lights ready to go, but will have to impatiently wait another month before I can start. I love watching your channel because it is rare that I don't pick up at least some little bit of knowledge.
I planted potatoes today and added some organic lime in other areas since my soil is very acidic. I also spread out my fig tree branches and staked them in place. I`m planting my new figs in March but I`m trying strawberries this month and short carrots and starting tomatoes and cucumbers indoors in hydo solution to make rooted cuttings later. I already have some cherry tomatoes 6 inches tall in planters.
Your videos always motivate me!!! My brassicas wore me out. Heat blankets on and off was stressful. I thought about taking a break but, looking at your garden gives me the energy I need to get up and get growing!!!
I thought I had more time on my fruit trees but yesterday I noticed the red maple in the pasture is budding! The harbinger of spring always gives me hope. I'm in SC slightly north west of Stan. Robins came through almost three weeks ago and I thought it was too early; I guess Mother Nature knows better than I do lol

I don’t think I have the climate for giant pumpkins. The borers here are just terrible. I think you’d need to grow it indoors in a greenhouse or hoop house. I couldn’t imagine putting in all that effort just to have it killed. I would need to use so much pesticide.
@@TheMillennialGardener you could grow a monster, even the FL state record these days is 1,000lbs. But, yeah, it would be a lot of work and for the vast majority of people is just too niche for the channel. But they are unlike anything else you will ever grow.
Up her in eastern Washington, February isn't a good time to try to plant anything.. ground is frozen solid and typically covered in snow. Though if my greenhouse was up and ready, I would be planting in that for sure. March.. is typically our 1st sowing month.

Not at all. Maybe for tomatoes, but not for cool crops. You should be starting your cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, kale, chard, collards, mustard greens, onions, etc. indoors now. It’s actually getting late!
That doesn’t matter. What matters are the conditions 8 weeks from now. That’s what we plan for today. If you don’t have snow in 8 weeks, start planting 😊
Same here, I'm almost set up to start my early indoor seeds, but have to wait a bit for some seeds because of our last frost date. We are in Washington State zone 7a

Great video! I watched your video on pruning and you said things like orange trees to prune after harvest. I am in zone 9a and my oranges looked ready for a while before I cut them all off in Jan(all 8 on a big tree). Do you think I should prune as soon as the first turns orange? They were probably orange for a month before I cut them before a cold snap. Again, thank you sooooo much!!!! New to this and couldn't do it without you 😊

it is mid February here in nyc. My garden is still covered and not ready for planting. Should i use fungicide now or does that kill good fungi also? I have raised beds but my lawn next to it seems to have a fungus problem. I already lost a tree to it. or should i just treat the lawn?
