FIFA does not design the balls. Adidas designed the Jabulani. Maybe you got it confused with the "FIFA quality" badge thingy on the ball, but that is just to show that FIFA might potentially use this type of football for their competitions.
He's wrong. It's still round, but it's the panels and the seams that create the deviations as wind passes over it, this also createa a mini drag which stabilises the ball mid air. A completely round ball with no texture or grip and lower panels means the ball deforms as its struck and the center of rotation shifts create those crazy S bends (Riberto Carlos freekicks)
It's also not a true truncated icosahedron as that would be make of flat faces. The panelling pattern has been standard since the iconic white and black ball for Mexico 70
We sure miss Roberto Carlos style goals, nowadays it's all mechanized passing and brute force striking (save genius exceptions that would make magic playing with coconuts boulders or pebbles)
Jabulani is GOATed. And I for one, think that maybe if similar balls were implemented in full seasons as opposed to a 1 month tournament that happened every 4 years, maybe players and keepers would have actually adapted to it, raising the level in general, but that's just my humble opinion.
To be honest I think it’s a gimmick. Be honest, striking and even passing the jabulani is ridiculous 😂 I remember guys in my school toe bashing it and it’d fully curve to the other direction. It’s a gimmick bro.

@@AdamSabir1Yeah, but if it became the standard ball people would learn how to control it and it would have different benefits. Obviously, it's a gimmick, but it doesn't *have* to be.
@@miamivladit’s not wrong it’s true, an all round ball with no curvature on it interacts with the wind differently and is affected by gravity differently as well, it’s what led to all the cool looking Roberto Carlos long range free kicks
We in south Africa will always love the jabulani here in south Africa it gave wingers and strikers an advantage i Remember how dangerous Robben and sneider were when they played with that ball

Adidas (not Fifa) designed the ball and marketed it as 'the roundest ball ever'. But it wasn't the roundess of the ball that was the issue, because unless the ball is rock hard, it will deform when kicked, so spends very little time in a state of equilibrium. It was actually the smoothness of the ball that was the issue. The airflow over a smooth ball will have a large aerodynamic effect on the ball, causing it to swerve. A less smooth surface will create a turbulent boundary layer in the airflow, reducing aerodynamic effects on the ball. Its the same reason golf balls have dimples, to help them fly straight. The turbulent boundary layer also gives a small reduction in drag by detaching the low-pressure air zone in the ball's wake from the ball, preventing it from effectively sucking the ball in the opposite direction of travel.
FIFA didn’t design the ball, it was Adidas. Balls are still perfectly round they just aren’t 100% smooth or slick, air will push the ball like a smooth ballon if it’s completely smooth, you need grooves to act like as channels for air to flow around the ball, if not you get the Jabulani, interesting vid but wrong info. This ball just uncovered the fifa rating(aka the fifa approved stamp) to be bs and be more of a marketing stamp more than anything.
Fun fact - Jabulani means 'Be happy' but can be loosely translated to 'People be happy'. And as a South African, hearing some of the pronunciations of Jabulani is a bit funny but nice😂💯
@@nothingandeverything269 The scientists don't name things randomly. There is a process of naming, doesn't matter if that name sounds good or not. It is kind of a structure where a pyramid is made out of pentagons. And the sharp corners are truncated.
Icosahedron is a shape made of 20 triangles. When you slice the icosahedron's vertices (corners) at a precise point and angle, you get the soccer ball/football shape. That process of slicing the corners at that precise point is called truncation, thus why 'truncated icosahedron'
@@callmeprivate_ bro did you not watch the video?! The balls aren’t perfectly round, but the Jabulani is more perfectly rounded than the balls they use today, it was so light it would increase the speed and it also had no spin, goalies complained said it was like playing with a beach ball, no ones hating on Africa over a ball 😂 Africa is beautiful but you’re reaching
GVB's goal Had £50 on the Dutch that World cup Shoulda went e/w Did win 10 of my mate I picked the Dutch him the Argentiniens 10 winner for team which went furthest
This is why goldballs arent round. The aerodynamic's is better if the ball is not perfectly round. Round plasic balls have insane turns in air because of that.
Basically, the ball is not round because when a round ball was used, it was unpredictable, and very hard to control. Instead, we use a ball in the shape of a truncated icosahedron. It is made up of 12 pentagonal panels, and 20 triangular panels. There, I just saved you a minute of yapping.

Sounds like it was a bigger problem than just the shape. If it was bouncy, it might have been an issue with how the ball was contructed internally also, the thickness of the material, the padding between the outside and inside air bladder.
Yeah make sense The jabulani was basically like a beach ball. Remember kicking one of those hard on the beach and watching it move left and right through the air
