Inthe past we move from paper bags, waxed paper for packaging to plastic because we think it's good for environment to not cutting down tree, and been feed with information that plastic is recyclable.
he was talking about nuclear waste dude, not his plastic, he's trying to get the formula just right so that he can sell it, currently biodegradable plastic is horrible because if I have any moisture in them they are useless, and coupled with time they end up just turning useless, we need something better that is just as good as cotton but not needing more than our lifetime of water to grow enough cotton to make one bag.
@@HappyfoxBizWell hemp and linen recquire less pesticides and have anti-bacterial properties. Not so soft and elastic tho. It needs 10 washes to be like that
You know what I love humanity even with all the horrible things we do in this world still there are some people who don't give up easily they are the one who going to solve this plastic problem
@Penny Bee That's called good stewardship of the planet. Removing a "problem" doesn't necessarily fix a system as a whole. Until recently, we were only trying to survive. Our problems today are much more subtle than they were even 100 years ago. Everything can seem to be a threat today. There will always be someone who cares. Be it recycling, caring for someone who is mentally unwell, or an injustice in the world. People do care. @Chirag thank you for your optimism.
Recycling should be like the 3rd or 4th conversation to have. We must reduce reduce reduce first... Not generating plastic trash should be our absolute priority #1. Filling our grocery stores with aisles and aisles of plastic packaging, then trying to recycle them after the fact is a folly.
@@wayojii4705 How would you think if Newton patented all his Scientific research? The technology that can save people and the environment should be shared. Like Volvo for example. They develop the seatbelt technology and they don't patented it.
"We don't invent and create anything in the first place" Thats communism for ya! Capitalism has it's drawbacks but it has proven way more effective than it's alternatives.
@@nd7915 the thing is, the people who are not sharing the technique are fuckin greedy and dont realize that their greed can cause a lot of damage to the world
@@akshatchobdar3038 Doesn't change the fact that that is how it is, and just learn to accept it, you can't expect people to be a perfect member of society, you can't change human nature. In fact, most of them actually have a pretty good idea on its effects, but don't care enough.
I wish it were that simple, but no. We are not just talking about citizens here, but also businesses. One time use plastics have the advantage of being very cheap and efficient, which businesses benefit greatly from and brings in more profit. Paper, glass, and metal are more pricy recourses which some businesses will sacrifice for either lack of enough funds or overall strong wants of high profits. As we all grow up we start to realize there is no black and white anymore, it's grey due to complications and such.
That’s exactly why the manufacturers turned to synthetic Polymer (plastic) during WWII because there weren’t enough resources to craft, and because it was a lot cheaper to use plastic.
Ok inorder to do that we need to make people NOT use plastic and that would take ages because some are just completely ignorant. It would take generations for that mindset to completely eradicate
$30 trillion? Global wealth is just over $250 trillion... that means they’re spending $6 for EVERY PIECE of plastic ?? Isn’t that a typing error? Lmfao
Global wealth was over 360 trillion a year ago... and you didn't listen to the narrator. 30 trillion in sustainable investments- that means across all sustainability investments.
According to the US SIF Foundation’s 2018 Report on US Sustainable, Responsible and Impact Investing Trends, as of year-end 2017, more than one out of every four dollars under professional management in the United States-$12.0 trillion or more-was invested according to sustainable investing strategies.
Oranjmuse Meyer they actually just changed the clickbait title from ‘’investors are pouring $30 trillion into reusable plastic” to the current one.. lmao
So for example this year they would be responsible for recovering ten tons of ocean plastic and next year 12tons of ocean plastic? If so that's a smart idea, kinda similar to carbon capture.
There is no way I would use Compostable plastic alternative that is petrochemical! Single use has to end NOW, there’s still loads of unnecessary resources, energy chemicals, transportation etc involved in this ‘solution’.
The people who have made billions over the years should be held financially responsible for most investment in sorting this problem out They should have been many years ago. They live in luxury the planet is suffering from the consequences
It seems to me that keeping garbage OUT of the ocean should have been an alarm call the very DAY that scientists realized it was a dire issue- like- back in 1975😡👹
Why aren't these breakthroughs being announced and implemented? Bring the laws to the governments and put them in place you criminals and uneducated politicians shame on you!
The criteria that really has to be met is biocompatibility. Biodegradable into harmless substances in a reasonable amount of time in nature, because some will always wind up in the ditch. And carbon neutral. Put a $.50 or $1.00 deposit on all plastic items, redeemable in every country; that should help keep most of it out of the oceans and freshwater bodies!🌎🐠🐟🐳🦐
Good video, very informative but please change your video to stare plastic bags and straws are not recyclable as they both are. Straws made from PP amd bags from HD and LD
I really appreciate this story and the business stats around the profitability of sustainability. However, the reporting has some errors. Getting an opposing view from someone in the plastics industry is a straw man. Also, the viewpoint of a former won over critic who is on the Board of UBQ is also not a representative, independent choice to prove the viability of the product.
well I am glad there are some new technologies, honestly what is going on with the environment, plastics and the world is crazy and shocking how many people do not even care closing their eyes on ecology. imagine if majority of people would become eco-friendly and essentialists / minimalists?
I tried the edible (and degradable) sporks- not great for very hot food- they start to bend some. They have no taste really, but I suppose in a pinch not bad. I think the should make some that are colorful with vitamins in them- maybe kids would eat them. 🙂
We make synthetic rubber sheets/carpet for footwear industry and cattle farm using wastage polyethylene, single use plastic bag and reclaimed rubber. We are located in Hazaribagh, Dhaka, Bangladesh. We recycle more than 560 US Metric Ton plastic bags in a year.
The problem isn't recycling it's the fact that it some how always finds it's way into the ocean and our food supply and that it's petroleum based. Recycling isn't that high on the list but it is still important.
"Humanities addiction to [plastic]" , you know, if companies would stop using it, people would stop buying it. Google "Only 10 companies control almost every large food and beverage brand in the world". If these companies would stop using single use plastics, this would have a massive positive impact on the problem.
@@peeny7390 I mean something that doesn't take over 100 years to decompose. We need something that can compost in under 5 years to keep up with the demand.
My thoughts as well. Plus carbon neutral, because more CO2 emitted from decomposition is part of the problem. What if we just use more natural fiber products and more reusable glass containers?🍶🌞🌎
We ditched paper bag, waxed paper, jut bag, reusable glass bottles for soda, and latter need to find plastic replacement when we can just go back how we do in 1960s
The problem is plastic is petroleum “by”-product and will be always cheaper due to the ginormous amount of crude processed each year. Where would you throw this residue which is plastic. The problem is petroleum and not plastic
Hi my name is Glenn Willis and I'm very interested in starting my own recycling company here in the United States to solve the problem of wasting our Waters in landfills I will contact you guys shortly after raising enough money to begin my own program
We are producing nearly about 0.8kg of waste per person per day, which is creating worst conditions. We have to take instant actions to protect our mother earth. We clean India ventures are trying to create latest technologies and tools to convert organic waste into useful products in limited time and good quality. Visit our website to know more about the products, techniques and tools.
is there a way to get the sources for the information presented? interested in taking a full look at those numbers of the amount of money invested in the industry
Part of the problem here is relying so heavily on petroleum to get the plastic. Another problem is focusing on recycling because in the event that it's tossed out a car window or simply not recycled we have to wait generations for it to break down.
