I'm a Canadian living in Nicaragua, and my favorite is the 12 year Flor de Caña. Nicaragua has some amazing rum, and I've even went for a distillery tour. great review!

Since you said, near the end of the video, that this is not a rum you would recommend to whiskey drinkers, that raises an obvious question: what rum WOULD you recommend to whiskey drinkers?
Ahoy mate! I recommend Mermaid Rum (there is a video I did) and Flor de Cana 25 rum. Both have more of a whiskey tasting profile in my opinion. Mermaid Rum is made by a distiller that also makes Wild Buck Whiskey over in Brooksville Florida. Thanks for watching!

As you know i am a huge whiskey bourbon drinker. Lately i have been craving rum so i went out and bought Flor De Cana 7,12,18 year old rums not sure where to start. My problem with rum is the migraines i get from them. Im hiby staying away from additive free rums will better help me to enjoy rum. Any additive Free rums you can recommend would be helpful. Ahoy mate! The rum world is still the Wild Wild West with lots of rum brands putting additives to get uniform color, added sugar or flavoring. FDC rums you bought was a good place to start as independent hydrometer testing shows they are additive free. The Flor de Cana 12 is probably the best sipping of the offerings when price is considered. I get headaches from rum aged in Cognac barrels in France which are mostly from some rum brands out of Barbados! Mermaid Rum pours and tastes to me like whiskey (the NJoy Spirits distillery near Weeki Wachee also makes Wild Buck Rye whiskey) and I’m fairly certain no additives. Total Wines stores carry it. Ten to One is another no additive rum found at Total Wines. Rum made is Jamaica is supposedly required to not have any additives. I hope this helps you find a rum that works for you!
The natives told me in Nicaragua there is a cave where pirates hide there treasures in hunted forest . A lot of history from the Spanish in the west & the British in the east . East is English speaking people.
Ahoy mate! The 7 originally meant aged 7 years. The Distiller got in legal trouble as this was untrue based on how rum aging is typically measured. The rum is aged on average 7 years being the oldest vs the youngest. The Distillery decided to ditch the aging statement and just use numbers that “infer” how long the rum is aged without actually saying it.
I find say captain Morgans, my least favourite rum when mixed with coke tastes like a vodka coke. very alcohol taste. but flor has also been my favourite rum since travelling to Nicaragua.
