Why Flowbees, the 1980s Vacuum Hair Trimmer, Are Selling Out Now 

I called this back in March. All these folks mad that barbers and salons were shut. I said to many, "Go buy a Flowbee. Problem solved."

I'm here because my original Flowbee just broke down! I see Clooney's got the original Flowbee like the one I have. My son is now 14, and he's been Flowbeed all of his life. He's gone to the barber twice as far as I can remember. Saved thousands of dollars.

I've had a FB since they originally came out and I'm on my third one. I still remember the infomercial selling them. I've had so many people make fun of me for using it but if you look at the roughly $800 I've saved a year over the last 30+ years of cutting my hair and my kids that's over $24,000 and probably over $30K now. It has more than paid for itself. When we built our new house I put in a FB haircutting station with a central vacuum connection. My kids bring the grandkids over now for a new generation of FB haircuts.

Did they use one of those on Wayne's World or is that just my imagination

My mom used that on us when I was a kid they have a long attachment for long hair, I also had brothers. Its great for kids actually. Just 5 min, and then you're done, no crying no fuss.

Been using the Flowbee every week for the last 30 years. When I was selling them at trade shows 30 years ago I knew if I had a guy like George Clooney promoting it, it would sell like wildfire.

I've been promoting the Flowbee to everyone I know since the early 90's and everyone thought I was nuts, looks like I ain't so nuts anymore!!😂🤤

I haven't been to a barber in 20 years, and rarely for 10 years before that, ever since I got a Flowbee in 1990. I'm still using the original head, but I imagine I'll need to replace that soon because even the best blades won't last forever. I apply a little clipper oil to the blades before every third or fourth session and it just keeps purring. I did replace the spacers/tubes/guides things, whatever they're called, because the originals got brittle and broke, but they're not expensive.

Clooney is apparently notorious for going out of his way for a prank, so, yeah.

I still have mine from 1992. I haven't used it in the last 10 years or so. My haircuts went from $20 to $30. Lots of price gouging going on with the pandemic. Time to bust out the Flowbee again :). It actually does a pretty good job. Not made for women or men with super long hair. From what I remember of mine. The attachments go up to 6 inches.

My only complaint is how loud it is. My new vacuum is also unnecessarily loud. I don't know why they can't make both of these items much quieter.

I imagine that soon, there will be Flowbee 2.0 with improved blades and system. Many people laugh at inventors on their weirdest ideas, but keep in mind... its those 'weird' inventors who managed to shape the future and then they suddenly called to be genius.

Back around 2010, there was an original style Flowbee, complete, barely used, in the original box. At Goodwill for $2.99. I remembered the commercials as a kid, and figured it would be fun to try someday, so I picked it up. Well in 2020 that someday came. I learned to use it, and since then I've never paid for a haircut again. I've never had a disaster with it, but every time I get better and faster at it. I think it's cool to be proficient at something that hardly anyone else does or seems to know about. It's no louder than standard hair clippers, any additional noise just depends on the vacuum you use. I use my upright, disconnect the hose and lay it down so the beater brush doesn't wear a spot in the floor.
