Why Fly is a Flawless Yakuza Boss Theme

I love what "Soar" does to "Fly". It takes a song about two men who could have been friends in another life, and shows that other life. It takes a very somber boss theme and makes it more triumphant in nature.

My favorite part of Yakuza 3 was when Mine said "Stand back, Kiryu-san, I'm going to Fly (in-game version)!" and then flew himself and Richardson all the way to Hawaii

I know this is because of the worldwide release, but the actual intro song for Like A Dragon 3 is "Loser" by Eikichi Yazawa. Fly is used as a replacement to avoid licensing the song. This is also why the scene with Rikiya also uses Fly (which has led people to incorrectly either assume Fly is also Rikiya's theme or that Rikiya is connected to Mine), it's another Yazawa song in the original. I don't want to get into a whole paragraph of things that happened to the remaster of 3 (the combat being "blockuza" being one of the things the remaster caused), so I'll keep it to just Fly. Fly as a song is really great. I tend to forget the intro and ending of the song, as they sound very different to the rest of the song, but I really like them too. The ending becoming a music box version of Fly is a really nice touch imo as Mine is barely able to stand when it starts playing and he falls to the ground. This was mentioned by you in the video but I just wanted to mention that I really like the detail. The only thing that bothers me about Fly is the name, simply because of how Mine's story ends. I know you explained why the name fits Mine's character, but it just bothers me. Was it on purpose? lol

I never really cared for Fly when I tried listening to it on RU-vid when looking up final boss themes for the Yakuza series out of curiosity. It wasn't until I experienced the final boss of 3 that I truly appreciated it. Yakuza final bosses really do stand out compared to most games especially with their OSTs.

I always thought that this song was like a movie, you have the intro, mid section and then the finale. They all blend together making an incredible piece of music.

Fly does remain my favorite track overall along with Joji Fuma´s "Lyricism without tears" behind. Yakuza 3 in general has some great tracks. Though "End of denial" from the Ebina fight is up there as well. "Triplet after triplet" is not quite up as high up there for me, but it is quite good as well. If they do decide to remake yakuza 3, im not sure if i want them to touch the original theme. Out of all the remakes and covers ive heard, it still remains the best. Franchise probably has the best tracks from any game i know.

As someone who loves both all the RGG OST tracks and gokudoni videos, this was a match made in heaven! 😁

Could you please do an analysis on the Yakuza style theme in Gaiden? I don't even care if it's short, I just want someone to bring up how good it is and how it is literally the best kiryu theme by far aside from his Yakuza 7 theme.

Fly is one of my favorite OSTs in gaming, slaps harder than Kanda. Kinda annoyed me how they slapped wrong Fly (Intro ver) during M-MIN fight in Gaiden, (Minamida Gran Prix).

I used to hate Mine but now looking back at it I appreciate Mine as a character. He had every right to be mad so instead he wanted to show loyalty towards Daigo but at what cost Update: I wasn’t a fan of Yakuza 3 but I enjoy it to this day

Finished 3 some weeks ago and goddamn, it was odd at the beginning but then it was a complete thrill, it just took a while for the game to begin with the usual Yakuza stuff and I really liked seeing a more calm and relaxed Kiryu

Part of me prefers the Soar remix in Ishin Kiwami, but I can’t deny the OG is a classic. Maybe if K3 comes out they’ll make the remix “Ascend” and I will too.

Yakuza 3 did some of the most interesting things with their soundtrack and imo it's also a rare moment of the localisation surpassing the original. The "sad" version of Fly that plays in the Rikiya scene isnt in the Japanese version. And the credits theme "tears of the father" is based on a piece of uncredited music in the Yakuza 1 soundtrack (that also appears in Kiwami), it plays only once during the mission that probably would have been a substory in a more modern game, where the Florist makes you run an errand for his son and the daughter of a yakuza patriarch, the theme plays during the cutscene where the yakuza patriarch is crying tears of pride at how his daughter has grown up and taken control of her own life. The Yakuza 3 western release presumably couldnt use whichever upbeat song originally played over the credits, so made their own instrumental theme based on that piece of music, which fits Yakuza 3 so perfectly and thematically I struggle to believe it wasnt in the original. The theme that plays when Kiryu fights Joji (lyricism without tears) shares a motiff with the final long battle theme (clay doll on the cradle) for when Kiryu is battling through the hospital. It's pretty rare that RGG has variations on the same piece of music, and normally this only happens for a given character (like Kuze's themes).

Can you do an analysis just like this one for Joji's theme too? I think it's an underlooked track, people don't really talk about it and it's great

Every final boss theme in this franchise is incredible. If I had to pick my top 3, though, it would be: 1. Assassination of Bodhisattva 2. Unwavering Belief 3. The End of Denial

Honestly Yakuza 3 gets such an unfair bad rep. Yeah the enemies block a lot, but once the combat clicks and you learn to adapt by choosing which parts of your combo to connect, it becomes really fun and strategic

I personally rank Yakuza 3 as the weakest entry in the series for a multitude of reasons, but Mine will forever be my number one villain along with the best villian theme in the series. It's honestly kind of funny to think how the weakest part has the superior villian for me. Just goes to show how high quality all of these games are

Yakuza 3 is probably in my top 2 people who dont like it simply just dont know how to grab and block and think dodging is always the solution. Most of the Yakuza games play different and thats my favorite thing about 3

Unpopular opinion, but I don't think Mine is nearly as good a villian as everyone gives him credit for. Yeah yeah, he has a sad backstory and is an orphan, but so is Kiryu. It doesn't make up for the horrible shit he did. Watching him slap Haruka and smiling because he just destroyed an orphanage in front of the orphans is fucking bonkers. How anyone can actually like him is beyond me. Not to mention that he worked together with Tamashiro, the guy who murdered Rikiya. He "redeemed" himself by committing suicide, and didn't even kill the guy he sacrificed himself for.

Yakuza 3 is based as fuck, they made a cheap knock off called yakuza 6 for it even
