Fmc means Flunked my Math Course. His results in the confusion when the participants in this event think a 22 move solve is greater than a 25 move solve, as math would detail that 25 is a greater number than 22.

I counted my solve now, and did 75 without any good OLL/PLL algs I'm really interested in improving that now edit: Counted m as 1 instead of 2. Should be 79 moves

Wait can you actually get a 22 move solution with layer by layer? Even with a last layer skip that seems unlikely.

probably not if you have any 2nd-layer edge insertions, as those are at least 7 moves each (if you can't cancel any). But if you have a 2-move cross (fairly normal) and take 4 moves to insert each F2L pair (insanely lucky) and 1 move to rotate the last layer that's a 19.

6 move cross + corner, 3 move inserts for remaining corners, then second layer edges are solved with E' R2 E R2, then U for AUF = 22

5 years later: At FMC Canada, a competitor good at 3x3 but hasn't done FMC before got the best single of the competition on the third attempt with a linear CFOP 23 skipping LL. His first two attempts were DNF and 42.

Lets assume the Cross on LBL can be done in about 5-8 moves Then the 4 corners will take at least 15-20 moves Then second layer will take about 30 moves! Pretty impossible for a 22 move 😂😂
