There are tens of thousands of Christian churches, so why follow just the Catholic Church? On Sept 24th I will be heading to stay with some Sisters at a monastery for discernment. I have my recommendation letter, and was told that I would most likely leave with an acceptance letter!! I spent an hour talking on the phone with the mother superior and I am very excited to FINALLY be where I have been dreaming to be! Please, Fr. Columba, pray for me and the sisters!!

Once, while I was running and hiking in the hottest time of the year, going too far for the amount of water that I had brought, I became overheated or hyperthermic. Being il-prepared, this was a metaphor for having been too long away from prayer and the practice of one's faith. This was not the first time I experienced hyperthermia. I lost my sight the second time in my life. Everything went dark and I saw nothing but blackness. Being physically blind was the result of being overheated, as if a warning for the effect of not having enough oil in my lamp during that period of time. I crouched down thinking that the blood pressure was too low and couldn't sufficiently reach the brain. So, shortly I recovered my vision. The act of crouching down could be a work of humility, which leads to renewed vision. I looked for shade as I was where the ground area was completely exposed. This is like the effect of sin which exposes us to the flames of hell. I spotted a small bush where I again crouched to cool off in the shade of the bush. The bush could represent Jesus Christ and the shadow like His protection from the effects of my overexposure. Overexposure is like the effect of being too long away from the life of devoted prayer and overexposed to the influence of the evil in the world. My crouching was humbling myself in the shadow of The Lord similar to those who hoped the shadow of Christ would fall on them when He passed by that they might be healed. Once I felt more confidence that I could walk out, I began making my way out of the heat slowly and to where I might find water. Not long after, an Angel appears in the person of a City Police Officer driving in my direction in his patrol car on the foot trail. He gave me water from his trunk when I asked if he had any water. By then, I had already started walking slowly out of the recreational area toward my car in the parking lot. Many of us, at times, are wandering far from a life centered on the Word of God which overshadows evil. The love of God provides the water of life, eternal life giving water. Jesus Himself said, God The Father promised Him that none of the ones given to The Son by The Father would be lost.

I have come to this understanding (I am currently an evangelical protesant) but my husband is adamantly opposed to the Catholic church and as we have two young children, I have taken spiritual direction at this time to wait and pray lest our family become divided. It is hard. I so desire to be part o the church and receive the sacraments, and yet I know that at this time, this is God's plan, and I would so appreciate your prayers for our family, that we might all be received into the Church and be in union with Christ. Thank you for the beautiful encouragement, Father Columba, it is a blessing to me.

Thanks again for your amazing content. I find this discussion very interesting. I'm a catholic since child hood - fell away from the faith for a period but have then returned due to circumstances in my life leading me back o God and once again practicing in the catholic faith. My return however was largely led by encounters with God\Jesus which came predominantly through non catholic churches. I was kind of "led" to teachings from different priests and pastors. Best I can describe it was when they spoke I felt the holy spirit. The inner heart movements you speak of in other videos. The "consolation" from the ignatian spiritual excercises. So I studied a lot of the teachings of the individuals where I felt this consolation or peace of God on. It felt like I was being lead to do this. Many - actually most of these - were not catholic. Your are actually one of the few catholic priests/speakers I've felt the same Godly peace when listening to and studying. The thing I've found being exposed to teachers from a wide gammut of denominations is none of the churches are "perfect" or seem to have the whole answer.. None have everything perfect and its only kind of when you look broadly and are able to compare through experience you see that each one has a strength and weakness. You can see certain churches are far more proficient in worship. They really bring the presence of God through music in a way i have literally never experienced in a catholic church. We as Catholics just don't do that well. We just really don't (at least in the churches I've attended) and an area we could definitely learn from others. Then other churches have such reverence and focus on the word . Every member has their bible out. They don't just read it - they are studying it intently every service and during the week in between. Again I find that exceedingly rare in the Catholic churches I've attended. Some churches are more bold and proficient in healing ministries - some in evangelization - some in service. But you are right the Catholic and perhaps also orthodox are more "traditional" and they have retained the sacraments and ritual "sign acts" some of the other churches have de emphasized wrongly. It kind of feels like to me each "church" has part of the answer. Like a puzzle where the collection of answers - or truths - have been "separated" and its only through re-union - of all the churches back into a single body that the true church will be fully realized with all gifts truly displayed as God intended. That will require humility and friendship to recognize between all the churches we maybe don't have all the answers - and be willing to teach what others don't do well - but also learn from the other churches the things we don't do well.

I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. Hi, can you do a video on the concept of Mary’s immaculate conception? I am a Protestant, and that’s the main issue I take with Roman Catholicism. But I’d love to hear your perspective because I agree with so much of what you say in your videos and have gained profound wisdom from you. The Bible teaches virginal birth for Christ, but I can’t wrap my head around the Roman Catholic belief that Mary was immaculately conceived, and I have read that this was a point of controversy in Catholic history for hundreds of years (perhaps today some still don’t agree). Thanks! God bless you and may you keep making these enlightening videos.

Thank you for such a beautiful message of hope for the united Church of God. I'm not only a survivor of the information onslaught, but a thriver! There is so much information coming at us daily&we really do have to be prayerfully discerning about what to allow into our minds. Over these past few years my hunger for knowledge was triggered when I experienced some practices within Church that I was not comfortable with,I began to search the scripture for evidence of these practices&realised that things were progressing from Biblical Jesus to Spiritual experiences,maybe doubt got hold of me,my Faith was tested,there was church&then there was the Bible,but somewhere along the way I may have thrown the baby out with the bathwater,I disconnected from that Church after taking my concerns to the pastors,then came the lockdown &although I didn't stop meeting for fellowship with other like minded Followers,I have struggled to fit back into church,it became a little too charismatic for me,hyper! Anyway,I appreciate your video,s,I can relate and be encouraged, although I do need a more permanent Church body to be a blessing to and blessed by,prayin for clarity&guidance🙏

Sorry brother, I walked out of church recently because I wasn’t aligned with my bishop’s thinking. I changed parishes and I’m still catholic but I’ve come to question the alignement of some of our bishops to the thinking of Christ. Back in the seventies, “progressive” Catholicism questioned the dogma of the church and stated that it suffices that one be “good” to be a Christian. As a result churches emptied : No need to be a Christian just to be good. It is always when the sacredness of a religion is questioned that it dies because if the root dies the rest withers. Today an attempt to introduce “wokeness” and the climate change agenda is clearly audible in our church, as if it were the condition to its survival. If the church is to live it has to be detached from any ideology since ideologies come and go. When are we going to understand that church is a place of adoration, that it is sacred, intemporal and eternal. It should be our safe haven, a place where we isolate ourselves from earthly matters to concentrate on what really matters.
@ctmcatholic
@ctmcatholic Год назад
We have to support our good priests and bishops and pray for the conversion of the bad ones. It’s helpful to remember what Hilaire Belloc once wrote: “The Catholic Church is an institution I am bound to hold divine - but for unbelievers a proof of its divinity might be found in the fact that no merely human institution conducted with such knavish imbecility would have lasted a fortnight.”

The only thing I am confused about is ignoring the existence of the Orthodox church which was also present from the begining. @@ctmcatholic Copy that. Also adding the filioque clause and how it is NOT a contradiction like orthodoxy says, the immaculate conception, the role the pope played in the ecumenical councils (orthodoxy says that it was the emperor and college of bishops not the one pope), eastern theology aligned with western theology, papal infallibility (many protestants and orthodox mess up on this one), the smoke of satan infiltrating our church (with modernism and liberal ideas, and the disrespect towards the holy mass) also why orthodoxy can receive our sacraments and why the pope said not to convert them (heretical statement at most as they're not in communion with Peters chair) and finally, how they claim that Catholicism is not one church because of liberal and conservative novus ordo Catholics, sspx and fssp, and other sedevacantist and liberal groups who all claim to be catholic and all submit to the pope, but their views are different and there are many divisions as the result. Can you please clarify every single thing mentioned? We MUST clarify and save the true faith

I want to become catholic because the Holy Spirit called me to seek out and partake of the Holy Body and Holy Blood of Christ. I ended up at an orthodox liturgy and it was so beautiful it moved me to tears. The ceremony of it was delightful, and I LOVED the respect given to the Eucharist (my background is non-denominational protestant, and Communion is a little less formal). I loved the church and the liturgy and the Eucharist and I would love to attend liturgy every day! But after the service the priest found out that I was never officially catholic, so he became annoyed and asked if I realized that I had eaten the Holy Body of Christ?? (I said "YES! That is specifically why I am here, as guided by the Holy Spirit!") but he became annoyed and stormed off. Now I was a guest in his house and I was attending in love and with the Holy Spirit, so I was not about to argue or make a conflict. But honestly I felt indignant. My experience and relationship with Christ is so real and palpable. I honestly felt like a bridezilla! I felt like a bride who was being denied her own wedding feast. I held my tongue but I wanted to point up at the ceiling the beautiful mural of Christ and say "Do you know who I am?? You see Him, the one you worship? I AM HIS BRIDE! I am the very reason He died on the cross!" but I did not say anything I held my tongue respectfully. But it is real to me and I felt like a bride being turned away from her own wedding feast because she isnt on the steward's guest list. Anyways long story short, I really considered becoming catholic just so I could attend liturgy and partake of the Eucharist without causing drama. It was so nourishing and beautiful. BUT... question for you sir! Is it possible to become a catholic without calling the church leaders "Father"? I think that is my last hang up. If he would be comfortable with me calling him "brother" (as in brother in Christ) or "servant of the Lord" which is the term I feel that the foot-washing, crucified God Jesus Christ would prefer (for what servant is greater than his master? and did not the master Jesus consider himself a servant?) then I would become a catholic tomorrow. But Jesus through the Holy Spirit and His Word instructed me not to call them "Father" Do you think I could find a catholic church that follows the Word on this? Would I be forced to choose between the command of my Lord Jesus Christ and the command of the church? This is the last hurdle I need to overcome before becoming catholic. And I am too simple to be convinced by man's logical arguments and rationalizations how Jesus did not mean what He actually said, but actually meant something other than what He said. I tend to be too simple for these arguments. I pray to the Holy Spirit, I read the Word, Jesus speaks, and I follow. I see that the light of Christ shines forth from you, and that you dwell in the Holy Spirit. Your guidance and input on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

@@ctmcatholic So if I'm ignorant that the Catholic church is required for salvation it then becomes the case that it isn't required for salvation, meaning it was never required for salvation? What defines ignorance? I don't believe it is required, I see nothing in the Bible about it, is that ignorance? You know there's a story of an eskimo in Alaska. A missionary came to him and told him that he would be saved if he follows Jesus. The eskimo asks, well if I didn't know about him would I be saved? The priest says yes. So the eskimo asks, well then why on earth did you tell me? So that's where I think this theology falls a bit flat. I'm just being honest with you, my faith has been until this point entirely predicated on honesty. The Holy Spirit has had a tangible effect in my life, and the Bible makes perfect sense through Him.

@@EzioAuditoreDaFirenze99 The Eskimo story is actually theologically accurate though. See Luke 12:47-48. I've prayed for God to reveal more to me on a couple of occasions and gotten a very clear response. Exact same both times. You aren't yet doing consistently well the things I've already revealed to you so I'm not giving you any more until you fix those. God doesn't ask things of us he knows we aren't ready or able to actually do. Its part of why the truth is "veiled" in scripture. We think we are sailing the ship but its really Gods hand in the background who is controlling things and ordaining the time for things. Hes the master gardener. When he wants us to grow in a certain direction - He prunes and waits for us to respond. Then prunes again. Then waits until we grow to his liking. Essentially when we are mature enough doors are opened and we are lead into new lessons, challenges and responsibilities. To use your Eskimo analogy if I was the missionary my response would be to use Fr Columba's youtube channel name with simply: "Don't blame me. I'm just the messenger. God timed it so that you ran into me today and received this lesson. You are being 'called to more' and to everyone more is given more is also required" ;)

The Franciscan priests, friars, brothers, sisters and nuns, the Dominicans et al, Benedictine order of religious, the Carmelite orders, Augustines, Jesuits and etc including the Norbertine Priests and religious. Each have an emphasis, a mark of distinction and yet are all Catholic. The diocesan priests and deacons, as well. Yet, some are teaching a narrow Christology while others teach in a way that is open for an extra wide interpretation. The Church who is open to all peoples, this is different from open to all beliefs. While the Catholic Church tries to assimilate what it can from what is true in other beliefs, it doesn't adopt those other beliefs. Rather, only agrees with what conforms to the Word of God as in the Gospels and the Bible and has been received in verified divine revelations such as the beliefs about The Immaculate Conception. I think this is why some priests paraphrase the Catechism, quote the Bible and the Saints when they speak about other beliefs that conform to the teachings of The Catholic Church rather than using phrasing that seems to come from an outside source like new age vocabulary or Buddhist philosophy. Yet, some quote Aristotle, for example, who recognized truth in philosophical terms. In short, Truth, Goodness, and Beauty are absolutes even though there are degrees of truth, goodness and beauty.

(Matthew 7:14) ~ forgive me as this may seem blunt, however, I am curious what makes you, or any and all Christians assume that they are among the few? I make no assumptions regarding myself, as it would not matter anyway for I am unwilling to leave anyone behind, and God is well aware of this. I am curious though as to why this message promotes division, rather than a reunion of broken parts? In Roman Catholic teachings, Michael has four main roles or offices. His first role is the leader of the Army of God, and he is viewed as the angelic model for the virtues of the spiritual warrior, with the conflict against evil at times viewed as the battle within. The second and third roles of Michael in Catholic teachings deal with death, as Michael is known as the Angel of Death. And in his fourth role, Michael is known as the patron of the chosen people in the Old Testament; is also the guardian of the Church, and the Tree of Life. I often speak with Christian leaders of all denominations about the four horsemen in Revelation, asking them if they are certain that among them is not Michael? For at what point does an effect ever lead or proceed the causes unless in its Heart can only be found the Will to Live? Believe what you will, in my humble opinion this is not a message of love or reunion, and it seems quite unlike what I usually feel when you speak. Anyway, much respect to you and yours. God Bless ~

@ctmcatholic Год назад
Thank you so much for this honest question, and we don’t mind the bluntness - if can often be important or even necessary for getting to the truth and the heart of things. First of all, I just want to clarify no one can know for certain they are going to Heaven. We all rely on God’s mercy because none of us deserve salvation. At the same time, we believe God has revealed certain things about Himself and His plan for our salvation (eg the 10 Commandments for example) and that following these plans for our life (ie living by the commandments and other things God has revealed) should give us a fair enough hope and confidence in salvation, as God promises salvation to those who follow Him. We never know who is going to Heaven (though the door is open to all of us, we must choose it), but we can have firm hope those who follow Him with all their heart, might, and soul will be. Getting to another point you raise, I can completely see why this video may seem on the surface to cause division, but that is not at all the intention. God wants us all to be one, and that is our desire too. As for what that oneness looks like, if you take it from the view of a Catholic (even if you are not Catholic or don’t agree with this yourself) - we believe Christ came to earth, did his ministry, died for our sins, AND established His church to be passed on from generation to generation. Here’s an article on this topic that goes in more depth: www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/the-church-christ-founded So, as Catholic we believe Christ Himself established the Catholic Church, and that he works most directly through it (yes in peoples’ lives outside of the Church, but he makes it clear the Church is his bride, it is the means through which he bestows revelation and abundance of graces in the sacraments etc) - so with this in mind as Catholics it is our greatest desire that as many people as possible would come to know Christ in full communion, in full intimacy in His Church. This can be hard for us to talk about as we don’t want to come across as judgemental or divisive, but look at it the other way - we love our brothers and sisters across the world and we love them so much that we are willing to have these difficult conversations about truth and the Church Christ established so that as many people as possible can get as close to Jesus as possible through his Church which he established. I wish I could expand more but I hope that is in some way helpful. Peace and love, Katie

@@ctmcatholic Thank you so very much for making truth in effort to walk with me. I am quite aware of everything you offer; no need to expand, and I stand with you, not opposed. Given that most Christian leaders (of all denominations) continually implore us to be on the look-out for Jesus, I often ask them how this does not make a mockery of Daniel as being a false prophet? After all, Jesus did offer that he "did not come to bring peace, but a sword"; leaving the door open to the idea that among all his works was also the intent to awaken one before he returns. (Daniel 12:1) Judgment is a word that forks lightning in that one instance it points towards verdict, and we are encouraged not to render verdict upon another because with each word we speak we give ourselves away, not others. However, judgment is also a word that points towards the Spirit of Anne Sullivan from within her pupil, asking the question: when judgment is no longer a measure of distance towards any~thing from within would this not result in the blind leading the innocent to everyone's downfall? A response to this is neither required or expected, I am just sincerely happy you reached out. Thank You, Katie... God Bless ~ Much Love ~ Stay Safe

There is only ONE True Church and that's the Church that Jesus founded on Peter. Ephesians 4:5 "There is one Lord, ONE FAITH, one baptism". There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. Jesus said it clearly. John 6:53-54 "Jesus replied to them: In all truth I tell you, IF YOU DO NOT EAT the flesh of the Son of man AND DRINK HIS BLOOD, you have NO LIFE in you. Anyone who DOES EAT my flesh AND DRINK my blood HAS ETERNAL LIFE, and I shall raise that person up on the last day." ONLY the Catholic Church has the TRUE presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. NO OTHER church in the world has TRUE salvation and offers eternal life that Jesus promised in John 6:53-54. What I don't understand is why protestants can't see this when it's written SO clearly in the Bible! The only explanation I have is that Catholics FOLLOW the Word of God and protestants CHOOSE what they want to believe in. Romans 13:1-2 14 "Everyone is to OBEY THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES, because there is no authority except from God and so whatever authorities exist HAVE BEEN APPOINTED BY GOD. So anyone who DISOBEYS AN AUTHORITY IS REBELLING AGAINST GOD'S ORDINANCE; and rebels must expect to receive the CONDEMNATION THEY DESERVE."

You are either Catholic or you are not. There is NO salvation outside the one, holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. This is an article of faith, and to contradict it would be to make an heretical statement. The heretic Modernists and "Ecumenists" pretend that salvation is possible outside the Catholic Church -- but this is false. Salvation and sanctifying grace are bestowed by God to those WITHIN the Catholic Church. Neither is there true holiness in anyone outside the one Catholic Church. Grace and holiness come from Christ, Who is the Head of the Church (which is the Mystical Body) -- through Our Lady, the Mediatrix of Graces. Those who have severed themselves from the Head CANNOT live truly holy lives or be saved, as long as they are separated from the Church. It is heresy to state otherwise. The Catechism of the Council of Trent (Article IX) states: "[The Church] is also called universal, because all who desire eternal salvation must cling to and embrace her, like those who entered the ark to escape perishing in the flood." Those outside the Mystical Ark of the Church do NOT receive the benefits of those within the Ark. God does NOT will any other "church" to exist outside the Catholic Church. There are, therefore, no degrees; you are either Catholic, or you are not. And if you are not, you do not receive the eternal benefits of those within the Church. See Pope Saint Pius X's encyclicals against Modernism.

Why would anyone need to experience God’s love “through other people”??? [6:48] “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we light live THROUGH Him. In this IS love, not that we loved God, but that HE loved us and sent HIS SON to be the propitiation for our sins.”(1 John 4:9-10) Jesus said: “I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life. NO ONE comes to the Father except THROUGH ME.” (John 14:6) And after Jesus the Christ had risen from His death, He said this to His disciples prior to His ascension: ”ALL authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18) There is “ONE God and Father of all…” (Ephesians 4:6) “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of GOD, let us hold fast the confession [of hope]…. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14,16) Therefore, we do not need an intermediary for Christ IS our intermediary - our one and only High Priest before God. Christ, whose death on the cross in our place (which death we deserve) and His resurrection from death which reconciles us to God when we believe and receive Him as our Lord and our Saviour, is all we need.
