Someone decided to put a foosball table at the cafe area in my work... we didn't really payed attention to it, it took a lot of time to gain some traction, but little by little we started finding how fun it was to play, we got a little secret club of employees and would meet to play in between breaks, all of the sudden it started becoming truly passionate and competitive, our skill level increased a lot, our style became more technical and strategic, we started having our own little championship, some of the older folks noticed and they joined us, they showed us their advanced techniques and skills, one of the guys in our group is an absolute unbeatable beast... turns out he was the foosball champion in his village in Algeria when he was young, we are now obsessed with the game, we take it very seriously, there is a lot of competition and we play at every chance we have, the table wore down a lot and is falling to pieces, we have been repairing it but I don't now how much longer it will hold, specially because some other coworkers started noticing out little foosball club and everyone wants to play now... 😁

Ah, I know this is from a while back, but recently, I have had somewhat of a similar situation. The warehouse I work at has a nice Tornado Elite. I became fascinated by the game, and we had some amazing players there. Me and my friend started from the same level and our games are always heated, and only get more technical as time goes. I constantly even keep up with maintanence on the table, making it the best it could be. Needless to say I am obsessed with the game and am on the hunt for my own table, its hard not to be playing constantly!

Nice mini-doc! I'm one of the modern generation of foosballers. Currently ranked top 10 in the world and one of the best in England. If you want any follow-up about the European scene I'd be happy to chat! I think the sport is due a revival but it's really hard to break through without corporate sponsorships and media coverage.

Hi Rich. Would you recommend and decent beginner level foosball table available for purchase in the UK? Which model of Garlando if any? Or maybe the cool looking Fireball tournament approved table?
@foosnews

@Artur Dobrzyński Any of the garlando tables with pinny style feet would be a good beginner pick. G-500 perhaps if you're on a limited budget. Fireball is also great for practice, but there are far fewer tournaments on that table type (assuming you're in Europe).

Hey Rich, do you know or played with Rob Atha (was England's youngest pro 20 yrs ago)? I met him and his Pops (Boris) in Las Vegas in 2000 & 2004 at the Hall of Fame tournament classics. Great guys and players both. My brother and I hung out with them every day playing warm up games waiting to be called for next matches, if still in and not doubled out yet. Even after being put out 2nd day we kept playing for the fun of it because it was so awesome to have high level players to play with and against. We entered a DYP they had the night before day 1 officially started after they had assembled 114 brand new Tornado tables in one conference room (what a sight that was!) and I drew a Vegas local (Marty) and played the best games of my life with him to go undefeated and win it. Sadly I must have used up all my foos juice doing that because I didn't perform very well in the real tournament afterwards (my brother/teammate still hates me for that lol). But we still play 2 nights a week at local Billiards hall for our #TGiFoosday get together that looks like either a geriatric club or Grateful Dead reunion.😅 Youngsters walk up to see what all these old grey guys are doing and thinking they'd have some fun kicking old asses and usually after a couple goals made say "F*ck that" pull their quarters back off table and go play pool lol. Kids just don't seem to have the drive in them like we did growing up looking forward to challenge whoever is holding the table. Foosball should be an Olympic event and I'll keep playing til I die, even if there comes a time I can't push the coin slide in no more, I'll get someone to do it for me, after that watch how I make the balls disappear in the goal hole 😂 I'm 64 this summer and most of the youngsters are still too afraid to try me, but we've picked up a couple new young guys last month that have realized that Foosball is Life, not something you need to get paid for and lessons cost a $1 each game, if you loose. 🔥#HOTSHOTS🤯 Shorts video examples of us living to play. Foosball isn't dead yet until we are. Got Game?

How to make a Jimmy the Giant video: 1. Find a sport that was super popular and tell people about its history 2. Tell people that it got less popular because of XYZ 3. Say that it could be popular if their social media game was good 4. Finish with “peace”. Banging video though, I had no idea how popular fossball was! Seems criminal not to have a scene of joey and Chandler playing it though.

Hey Jimmy... the British Foosball Association here... thanks for making this great video. Brilliant research! You're completely on the button as to what happened in the 1970s with Tournament Soccer but actually these days there's a whole lot more happening in world table football than perhaps you made out in the film - and yes these days there's loads of stuff on social media too. Question for the BFA - it has always bugged me that Foosball as a sport has such a handicap for left handed players. In tennis, bat and ball sports like cricket/baseball, golf, boxing etc being left handed brings a twist to the game but its never a true advantage or handicap. In Foosball though, it absolutely sucks having your dominant hand on the goalie or 5 bar compared to on your 3 bar.
@britishfoosballassociation8656
@britishfoosballassociation8656 2 года назад
@@wads80z that's not the case at all. The most important rod is the 5-bar which most used to control and pass the ball. And this is done using the left hand. So lefties actually have a huge advantage! Scoring with the 3-bar - for which right-handers would have an advantage - is easier in comparison.

I played during the 'Glory days' of the late 70s/early 80s. I even appeared briefly playing next to Leif Garret in the movie, "Longshot." There was a tournament held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Reno, NV that was billed as the "First Annual $50k" I'm certain the MGM Grand expected this to be a money maker for them as hundreds of players would attend. I suppose they assumed they would make money on hotel rooms, the restaurants, and of course some of their own gaming in the casino. And while the top-tier players were adults with ample maturity and means, a large portion of the foosball players were under-aged kids who could not afford the luxuries of a fancy casino. Many packed four to five into a single hotel room, ate at more modest restaurants elsewhere, and were simply too young to gamble. I don't mean to disrespect the younger players, I'm just saying this age group was probably not the casino's target demographic. This tournament also drew no spectator traffic beyond the players themselves. IMO these were some of the reasons the MGM Grand in Reno never hosted a "Second Annual $50k" foosball tournament. Nevertheless, I loved playing and I miss the spectacle of those big tournaments. Thanks for the video!

I agree, for the most part, foosballers at a tournament where a pretty cheap bunch. I know it was always "economy class" for me and my partner. We were there to take advantage of the bargain basement prices for the tables at the end of the event to take home to our little "Tournament Soccer" enterprise. We would buy a couple at each of the West Coast tournaments. We never made much money at the business but we got to play some pretty good competition and had a lot of fun.

Foosball did have a resurgence in the late 80s and early 90s. That's when I started playing. You could go into any bar with a foosball table and the place would be packed with what I called weekend warriors. Basically pretty good players that didn't usually play in any of the tournaments. Which was great for players like me who at the time did play tournaments, because you could go in and lay 50 cents on the table and play half the night on just that, yet still be playing somewhat competitive matches. (When you won a game, you could stay on the table and the challenger would be the one who paid for the next game.) Unfortunately it kind of died off again and now it's only die hard tournament players who are playing the game.

I'm one of those players, smalltown USA, i never heard of any money or national tournament until 2006, it was always just local stuff , once in blue moon we'd hear of one in biggest city close to us, but nothing regular, most bars that had table didn't take very good care of it, times were good n i bought my table in 2000 always loved game, but there were no tables any where. I really don't see any type of growing or expansion of industry until table makers start to truly sponsor major events in every city of 6 digit population , and a rethinking of rules, that is its major problem, and why it will never grow any larger than what it is now, manufacturers like Tornado dont really sponsor small tournaments, sure they got name on a flyer, but thats bout it, which limits tournament size, place, participants , time constraints , advertising restrictions, and most important prizes, which is main attraction for all players, Q. is it worth expense of traveling 6hrs or more to a game that caters to only those at top of a manufacturers' league, when the LEAGUE shud cater to players at bottom and those beginner players, but it won't, GREED from top is keeping the sport from growing any bigger are afraid of losing their positions, Warrior makes good table , not on scene anywhere, manufacturers needs to load a semi trailer with diff. tables , rule changes on game play, NO MODIFYING OF TABLE PERIOD, every level of tournament players must play on diff types of tables to advance to next level, create a handicap point system where a pro can lose to a amateur player thus creating more incentive to play, eliminate accidental goals as a game point, speed up game by reducing zone time frames, tournaments shud be played with ten to 20 ft. between tables, limit spectators to seating and multiple overhead cameras and monitor on cell phone and particular match, table manufacturers need to put tables into local high school or rec centers for under privileged , not rely on private persons to do that for them , this is wat they are asking for you buy $3k table and donate it to unsupervise children see how long that table lasts. my thots on a game i still love but hate to see where is gone n going...

LoL in Europe table football is still everywhere. In schools, in bars, behind the church and at least a couple of your friends would have one at home. It is still popular today but nobody really plays to make money. Nobody gives a crap about the tournaments in Europe. It's just fun to have a couple beers, eat some panini, smoke a cigarette and a game of table football to pass an evening with your friends. The maintenance of modern table football tables is close to none, they are made to be horribly abused. And usually a game is 0.6$ (0.5€) which is 10 balls. So it's really a cheap entrainment for 4 people for about 12minutes. If you want to spend an hour at the table is less than 3$ really. It doesn't really make money for the bar owner but since neither do arcades anymore a table football still pays for itself in less than a year i think but most importantly it keeps people in the bar longer so they drink more.

Here most pubs still have a table to this but when I started to go out on the weekends back in 06 we even held tournaments and put money on it, the whole shebang. After about 3-4 years it just for some reason died out and now some might have a game or two every other weekend night but I feel like we kinda started a new small hype that even travelled to near by towns and the next generation just never cared for it. Pool still being played a lot tho

Even from my own limited knowledge of it, it’s clear that parkour doesn’t exist in a bubble. There are other sports/arts/activities that share similar types of physical skills, for sure. Yet, beyond that, there other activities that, although physically quite different, share things relating to the competitive, lifestyle, creativity or media aspects. I’ve never done parkour in my life, nor will I, being the wrong side of 50. However, it’s amazing how similar aspects of it are to things that I have previously been involved in. This channel certainly seems to be reflecting that. If you’re specifically into parkour, well sure, that’s cool. But don’t lose sight of the fact that there’s other things, out there, that might be worth learning from. That’s how innovation happens!

For one thing, the player distribution is 3-4-3, more reasonable and realistic than the 2-5-3 of foosball. The foorballin table is also a bit bigger and slightly concave so that the ball is never stalled in a flat area. And yes, you'll get your arse thoroughly kicked by regular fubolín punters.

The problem with the spanish funtbolin are the players : separate foot with arms, this design is pretty weird and makes it impossible to control the ball ^^'

I've been and still playing now over 50 years because to me Foosball is Life, not something to be paid to do. I'm much better now than I was 20 yrs ago and still getting better than I was last week. We play 2 nights a week at #TGiFoosday get togethers that looks like a geriatric club or Grateful Dead reunion at Pockets Billiards hall where the youngsters say "F**k That Sh!t" and walk away to play pool instead. Foosball isn't dead while we live to play it. Got Game? 😅

I worked at a software company in the late '90s and early aughts. We had a foosball table in the breakroom and it was very popular with nearly all who worked there. In 2001, we had an in-house tournament. My partner and I made it to the doubles final. We lost to the Senior VP and his partner. I'm going to call that a wise career move. :)

My brother was Jim Wiswell, miss him still till this day, hardest lost but watching him play at his house was amazing. My Mom had all his trophies downstairs. I have all his foosball newspapers, books and even a cassette tape with foosball songs. Foosball was his high and low in his life, contributed to the end of his life. Foosball went bankrupt and directly effected my brother.

Will always remember your brother being gracious with his time. Went up to him (sheepishly) and ask him if I could get an understanding of how he controlled his passing series. He spent about 5 minutes explaining his thought process.

I appreciate your loss. It takes a special type of person to be in the top ranks of that game. I'm sure the intensity of it was what drove your brother but the other side of that is there needs to be an outlet for that intensity. I can understand the loss you feel but the pride in a brother like that will last your whole life. Really enjoying the series on various sports history that entered mainstream, but fell out of grace! As you've mentioned beforehand on the inline skating video, our generation is very nostalgic. Talking on sports from our childhood brings back fond memories of the good'ol days. Pogo sticks, yoyo's, scooters, the classics really bring a ring to it.

Absolutely, old-school kids grew up competing at everything in a physical way just because it was fun. It was outdoor stuff mostly. I think it rounded out personalities and character. It gave a basis for the development of a moral compass and an outlet for the pent up natural energy every kid has. The keyboard warrior lifestyle has robbed kids of that. I feel sorry for the kids that haven't chosen to take the opportunity to experience the childhood of an outdoor, active life style.

Hey jimmy nice video, I just wanted to comment on the fect that you are making less and less parkour related videos. Now it could be that you just don't know what else about parkour to talk about, or maybe you just aren't as interested in parkour anymore. No matter what I love the content and hope you keep up the amazing work, I'll see you next week.

It’s probably the research aspect. He’s still big in the community, hell he was side commentary during one of wct matches vary recently. It’s just he’s more of a sports/parkour historian then an actual parkour athlete so a lot of his stuff he dos is behind the camera while the stuff that is infont is an in-depth analysis of people and sports. In this case videos like this are easy to research compared to a single person or an event/move in parkour. It’s the amount of research required and the ease at which it is able to be found and written about. Videos like these are big and broad so they can be spun out quickly, yet his videos let’s say the one about dom requires more in-depth info on the person and him to sqower their video repitwar for everything else. this is probably made ten fold more difficult for location and moves one because the info’s not found only on one person but meny spaning years. While his physical parkour ones is a mix him both purposely changing fields and style (around the time he left morero) and the fact that he dosnt do parkour to make a living anymore. He’s now a historian and commentator/investor in wct nether of which actually require him to do parkour. He still dos it of course and it dos affect his job, just not as much as it used to.

@@kevind3974 and to add to what you said, from Jimmy's Instagram story he confessed that there are some reasons why he doesn't make as much parkour content (maybe the ones you said are included) but one of them is that it's easy for some people in the Parkour community to start 'throwing shit at him' its easy to do PK any way you want without getting judged but once you make content about it......... It really is depressing to see, when Jimmy made that video about underrated freerunners that deserve more followers on IG, 'Someone' called his list trash since it wasn't what he expected. (Like Jimmy is not entitled to his own opinion?) Then he made the vid about 'Parkour and Autism' and I think he called Marx the most creative freerunner and ppl lost their shit 😁 There are more examples like that and if you consider it all and put yourself in his shoes, you'd rather make content on other stuff u enjoy. Ngl its entertaining to me being from Africa and watching all those reactions from a distance but in the end I subscribed cause I love Jimmy's Parkour videos (My favs are still 'is PK on yt dying' 'how IG almost killed PK' 'how fox stole a game') I hope he makes more PK vids cause they really make an impact in the community I hope he talks about the PK scene in places like Africa, south America And I hope he sees this comment ❤

Very good story about the game I still love playing for over 50 yrs now. For me Foosball isnt dead, Foosball IS LIFE and not something I need to get paid for doing. That would just ruin it. We play 2 nights a week at #TGiFoosday gatherings at Pockets Billiards hall because we love playing the game. Granted it looks like a geriatric club meeting or a Grateful Dead reunion going on, until the balls hit the table and the youngsters playing pool start moving away to get clear of all the shooting going on. The tournament scene got me playing the game at a much higher level than I thought was possible when the Million Dollar tournament happened and I wanted to enter it, but enlisted in the Army 2 months before it happened and forgot all about Foosball until I got out in '92 and my younger brother took me to Pockets Billiards to show me the 1st Tornado Table in town expecting to kick my ass since I hadn't played in a long time. I had to remind him why I used to beat him at it, I was good and still was even though there 2 more men on the goalie bars now. It took him a few months to get a win on me and since we were playing alot, we got 2 different vendor leagues going so every bar in Idaho Falls had 2 teams per table they sponsored. This went on for 10 years or so with weekly DYP tournaments and puttered out finally around 2005 or 06. We went to Las Vegas in 2000 & 2004 for VIFA league finals and the Hall Of Fame Clasic tournaments that run consecutively back then. In 2000 after they had 114 New Tornado tables set up for the tournament next day (What a sight that was!), they announced there would be a DYP 2/3, 7 points match, double elimination tournament if enough people were intersted. Entry was $7.50 per person. They had to limit it to 3 different tournaments so they would be done by real tournament start time next day because there was so many people there early that wanted to play. I entered the 1st DYP and partnered with a Vegas local (Marty Braun) that was ranked as a Semipro then and didn't shoot the Snake Shot, but had a wicked power Pull Shot. I wasn't ranked at all. I played Goalie and we went undefeated to win it and $350 each. Best games of my life and still amazed at how well we synced together. I didn't shoot the snake shot either back then, but I am really good at blocking it and shooting from the back and 3 bar, no skills on the 5 bar enough to play the 3 bar much when I did play forward. This imbalance in my skills led to not lasting more than 2 days before being put out of every event I had entered and with my brother teammate for doubles. He hasn't forgiven me yet for using all my foos juice up before the tournament started. Now at 64 yrs old, I'd smoke the younger me easily even though I finally beat my cancer last summer after spending most of the summer before in the hospital thinking I was going to die and being told I would have a month, maybe, left to live because the Melanoma kept popping up and doctor couldn't cut any more off me to stop it. That's when I decided I wanted more Foosball still and prayed the chemotherapy they hoped would work on me did. Im still playing baby and better at it than ever before, even though it looks like they chopped my wings off my back with a chainsaw.😮 Im not dead, Foosball is not dead. Foosball IS LIFE. I've seen death and he doesn't want any of this. Got Game? No? Better get some....
