I love Lion but they had the misfortune of going up against Mamamoo - as soon as they did Destiny I knew Mamamoo was going to win. (TBH, I think RBW pushed Mamamoo into competing - they didn't need to be on the show and I thought it was a little unfair against the other groups that really benefited from the exposure). Now you can make a case that their performance was a little better than Oh My Girl's Guerilla (they were also very good as well). For me the biggest mistake was whoever chose Fire for Gidle - I just didn't think it worked.
@jamesrawlins735 I agree, all of their performances in Queendom was really good with lion on the top of my list. But fire didn't work. Especially with the forced lyric change to their name. It doesn't sound right, and the song doesn't suit most of their voices with the way they sang it.
Idle were just a year old at Queendom but MMM was almost 6 years old. Idle turned 6 years old when FATE went viral. So to even the scales and be fair, you need to compare MMM at Queendom with IDLE during FATE, which had like a hundred PAKs and was Idle's 4th PAK song. They'd achieved so much by then. The comparison is lopsided IMHO that it's no contest.
While Soyeon has done wonders for the group, there are still those who say she overshadows the other members. My God! If it weren't for Soyeon, they wouldn't need to be ghosted because they would be overshadowed anyway.
I remember watching queendom and always saying "Mamamoo is the clear winner because of the odds in their favor but being like, If Idle wins, It'll make sense"
Thanks for this breakdown! For me the best Kpop song of all-time! Every part of the song is unmissable, but if I have to choose, then Minnie's high note and Soyeon's epic rap. That Queendom performance gives me chills. Lion delivers an empowering feminist message while sounding amazing and catchy! Only Soyeon and I-DLE can produce and write something like this!
I firmly believe this is their best song. Oh my god holds such a special place in my heart as well as Dahlia and Hwaa, but Lion has to be their greatest song. It just hits from all points.
Because Mamamoo actually devoured their performance and Idle deserved to win but mmm too. If Idle would have won I would have been as happy as when they announced Mmm as the winner
Also Mamamoo did really well over the course of the whole competition, while (G)I-dle were still a little too inexperienced I think if (G)I-dle had like a year more of experience they could've fared much better and maybe given MMM a run for their money
Idle were just a year old at Queendom but MMM was just shy of 6 years old then. Idle was just shy of 6 years old when FATE went viral. So to even the scales, we should compare MMM as of Queendom with Idle as of Fate, which had like a hundred PAKs and was Idle's 4th PAK song. They'd achieved so much by then. The comparison is so lopsided IMHO that it's no contest.
OMG... i have goosebumps, so good to see even more clear some things that i just think about this whole time. thank you for always shows how good this group is.
LION é mesmo uma das melhores músicas do GIDLE, inclusive o MV é perfeito. A letra tambem é perfeita, as meninas não cansam de fazer música boa, LION é uma das minhas favoritas ❤❤
You always work so hard on your videos and thank you soo much for the effort you put into your videos. As a neverland its the best present for me to understand my favorite artists music and lyrics as a person whos not from korea nor not speaking english as native language💗💗.
Lyrically their best song is any song from the I BURN album. Lion, Tomboy and Queencard are the most iconics But for me the objectively best song of gidle is Oh My God. It experiments with music, is bold, it has meaning, and the MV is one of the best ever.
idek if this counts but yk the lion painting in the mv? I think it means if they show off their best features(bc a lions are their claws) it'll become an object to people bc a painting is an object. BUT soojin is outside of the painting because she can show off herself and still not be let herself be objectified & the scar could represent how idols talent ultimately ends up hurting them(bc of the scandals etc)
Soyeon!!! Thanks for this breakdown, it seems very accurate, *cough cough* Cause you wrote but anyways, When are you gonna admit that you're the one behind BRD Communications? I'll be waiting till the contract expires and all the members join BRD aka your label🙂 Loved the video btw❤
Your videos are always so good you’re a genius istg!! I was wondering if you could talk about the Wonyoung hate as you’ve talked about the Jennie and Soyeon hate perfectly?
Quando vc falou da Joana D'Arc minha cabeça 🤯 adoro q vc sempre trás coisas novas pra as teorias e formas de entender os vídeos e letras das meninas 🫂💜
There was a theory that each member is a different lion, but I don't exactly remember ... I think Minnie was a young lion, Soyeon a lion in cage etc... I don't remember but it was really interesting😢 I love your videos💜
I love this song so much, best thing to come out of Queendom ever and since then. The girls should've won, but they don't need to win to prove their worth because that speaks for itself through their music.
4:35 The hunters (adult female lions) don't eat first. The leaders (usually 1-4 adult males) do. While the females hunt for food, the male leaders defend and fight for their territory from other animals and lions. When the pride's leaders lose to outside males attack, all cubs will be killed by the new leaders (the outsiders who win) and in some cases, the sub-adults will run away helped by some adult females. In general, all adult females will be alive and live with the new males.
The final ranking voting was incredibly poorly done. Knetz could start voting as soon as show started and ended a few minutes after Mamamoo performed, you could only vote once. So, people could cast their votes without having watched the performances. Idle was second to last to perform, so by the time they were done most people had already voted so it was literally impossible to change their minds despite the incredible performance. Mamamoo was last to perform but they where overwhelmingly popular at that time so anyone voting for them would do so regardless and hence they where not negatively impacted by this terrible system. Lion was by far the best performance of that night, but I still think Mamamoo was the correct winner. I just think Idle deserved 2nd.
It's easy why they didn't win; it was a popularity contest so MAMAMOO won and not the best performance. (G)I-DLE but also AOA had went all out with amazing performances which makes sense as (G)I-DLE was the group at the verge of breaking it big and AOA needed to proof to everyone they still had what it takes. I would have accepted (G)I-DLE not winning it if AOA had won because they definitely put a lot into their performances. Mamamoo's song was literally playing into Old Town Road's popularity and the performance wasn't show-worthy as their performance could easily have been a regular college performance instead of the finale of a national TV show. And the Moomoos that put down everyone else saying MAMAMOO was the only one who produced their own song (which they weren't), exposed me to how misogynistic their fandom actually is, how quick they are to put down other women to make MAMAMOO seem like they are angels descended from the sky... Queendom still leaves me with such a bitter taste in my mouth.
I wasn't a Moomoo then so I don't know what the fandom was like back then, however what made mmm performance stand out to me was their crowd work and passion on stage, which makes them getting a good score from the live audience vote understandable Also Destiny is a masterpiece imo
Us Moomoos can say some delulu stuff. Period. Name a fandom that doesn't. Back then people liked to mess with our 'sensible, mostly female' fandom and always tried to put MMM down. Talk about misogyny. When MMM behaved well towards Idle, Neverlands praised them only to completely bash them when the final result came out. To this day (and I'm not trying to get Oh My Girl under the bus here but) I can't understand how you can't understand winning Queendom was never about the final song. Oh My Girl came second, then the rest of the groups/solo acts. If you think Lion is the best song ever I completely respect that. But it was a tv show. An experiment where Mn3t threw all these amazing women into this chaos just to prove if it could work and then make the super awesome male version (and yes, I know Kingdom and Road to Kingdom had incredible performances). Everybody works hard in that industry and sometimes you're up, then down. Moomoos are proud of Mamamoo for giving their all in the show while preparing their concert and a full album that had 'Hip', their most succesful song to date, maybe not their best, as title. Destiny is a b-side and I happen to think that it is awesome. Not your style? Great! But I don't think that show was only about lyrics and music. I hope people can let this go already. And I want to apologize for immature Moomoos. Again, name a fandom without immature people...
