As a German I don’t care if they win or lose because that doesn’t matter if they play great. And this team is so much fun to watch…I am so proud of these guys!
Brick-Bingo-Bonga will have his come back against France. His weakness during the test-games makes him incalculable for the Olympic Games. He will make it personal, to show of
Bonga seems automatic from the corners in the Olympics. To be exact, he's 3/5 from the corners in the first two games and have added 1/1 in the 1st half vs France, too! Looking super sharp in the tourney
USA Fans need to be humbled. As a German, I actually love this USA team, just look at the legends on this roster. The only reason ppl cheer against them are their fans, they are so ridiculously arrogant it’s kinda crazy
I mean....how can you not be "arrogant." We've got the best international scorer of all time (KD), the best shooter of all time (Steph) and arguably the GOAT in Lebron. At what point is it okay to be arrogant if not now?
You’re not wrong. I’m born and raised in the USA. Many USA basketball fans use the players’ willingness to forgo international competition as an excuse for losing in the FIBA World Cup. It’s disrespectful to the countries that put their best foot forward. Ring culture helped to cause this sort of dismissiveness of international competition. The “avengers” only got together for these Olympics because Dillon Brooks dropped 39 to help Canada strip the USA of a medal in 2023. That sour taste was enough to get these players to care.
Agreed, Germany is a very good team that can go all the way. They didn’t win the World Cup by mistake, even though they will face much tougher competition this time around
@@AbcDino843 Nobody knows. I want to see a healthy Serbia performing with jokic and Bogdan playing together. In the last couple of years Serbia was playing it's best basketball when Bogdan was the number 1 guy.
@@ricoros8259 not saying it wasn't fair and square, but if we're talking about their chances of winning the gild in olympics, it's fair to put it in perspective of the competition then and now.
@@mandibiedermann2246 A Washington commitment would be huge for Germany. Cause I think Lo will step down after the Olympics. He is north of 30 and has a pretty big injury history. So I wouldnt be suprised if he is going to prioritise this club career from here on out. Germany has a plathera of good young quality bigs. So the future is bright in the frontcourt. Hukporti, Grünloh, da Silva... lots of options, even without Hartenstein! So if Theiss/Voigtmann step down too (as I think they will) we should be fine.
@@njbrx It is not the same. Spain has the most Euros won than any other country, but they have only 1 World Cup. They are good but they won't win next one.
@@njbrx Spain can't bribe their way through international competitions though. We all know how much uefa refs love Spanish team just look at every Madrid UCL game and the non given penalty in Spain vs germany
well its about 95 Euros from german Peak-Shop or the official DBB-fanshop and 105 Euros in the world cup champion edition, in my opinion thats a tough price
If I remember correctly, you did a more or less similar video about Germany before the World Cup and we did win the whole thing, hope you are correct again 😁
Nice analysis, some watch alongs would be cool when the games start. Schroder is a great player in some aspects but has a tendency to chuck 3s which was frustrating to watch last night.
I thought the same thing. He did make a few early on. But I thought there were some attempts towards the end of the game that he could have done better. It was a great game. Germany play a great game. DS is a great player
@@freeatlast1810 Yep not only him. Germany sadly shot very poor from 3 during that 4th quarter against team USA, which cost them the game. If they shoot their regular percentage they would have won it.
I love Johannes Voigtmann (not just because I coach at his old club). Such a smart big - who wouldn't want him on your team? He opens up a world of possibilities, defends smart&hard, and will never do anything stupid on the ball or off, all while wowing absolutely nobody with his quickness.
Having a well rounded team won them the world cup. Having that same team available for olympia will be great. It's also really fun to watch them finishing a play, while they have a perfect shot since 2-3 passes already.
"... only for Bonga to brick it." thats one denied climax right there. The whole build up was so exciting that the ending was just a cherry on top. lol
For me Germany is one of 5 teams with real Finals chances. USA, Canada, France, Serbia, Germany... some might put Spain in there too, but I just dont think they are good enough at the top. Same is true for Australia. Both teams are deep, but they have clear holes in some parts of the game. But of course those teams can also beat basically everyone on a perfect day. Overall it will come down to matchups in the knockout rounds. So yes, Germany can reach the finals again if everything works perfectly. But as a german I would be more then happy with winning any medal. Cause it would give the right ending for this era of german basketball. Herbert is leaving after the Olympics, and some players will most likely step down as well (thinking about Theiss, Voigtmann, Lo, Giffey, maybe even Schröder). The team made a commitment in 2019 for 5 years. And they did great things during this timespan. Bronze at Eurobasket 22, Gold at the World Cup 2023, now another medal at the Olympics and this would be the best Era in German Basketball overall.
I feel like there are as many as maybe eight teams that have a legit shot at winning gold, depending on how the ball bounces on the day :) USA, Canada, Serbia, Germany, Spain, France, Australia, Greece (in no specific order). The pressure is on and I can't wait for the games to start!
Nice to hear Schroeder's name pronounced authentically. Hard sound for us Yanks to make. Your English commentary is knowledgeable, entertaining, and free of the accesses of some of your less professional competitors.
Hartenstein isn't there because he is expecting his first child I think. The only one that could be there but there might be a little beef is Kleber. And I'd take good chemistry over a stretch 5 everyday as I don't think kleber brings more to the table than a thiemann or moe wagner
A comment about the statement around 9:46 that they didnt change the squad from the world cup one Not completly correct (unless my english skills fail me here), they switched two players from the world cup team Justus Hollatz and David Krämer for Nick Weiler-Babb (who played in the 2022 EM) and Oscar da Silva Altho Justus Hollatz and David Krämer both played very low minutes in the world cup, so the 10-man core is the same Good Video btw
When team USA becomes hot. We (germany) have no chance. But the german team has the advantage of playing together for a long time. In the end it is maybe not only about the numbers
Off course we have a chance. This ain’t nba show basketball, it’s actual basketball and you can see the us team having there problems with not being able to travel across the field and so on.
France might be the most overhyped team. They have not performed well in exhibition games, losing to Canada even with Gobert and Wembanyama playing. Canada has some very good NBA players, but its not the same number of All-Stars the Americans have. If France can't beat Canada they don't have a chance.
I once again notice that FIBA Team Basketball is actually more entertaining than high octane highlight run and shoot in the NBA But it could also just be a change of pace
@@monahainz5904nba crowd is so boring the only offer nba has is money but if you don’t care about that why go there. Apart from the fact that the USA is like a glamorous 3 rd world countr
There is more room for upset in FIBA play. Shorter game, shorter 3 point line, 1 game matchups (not 7 game series like the NBA). Lose once & likely no gold medal for you. A team can upset you via a hot shooting streak like south sudan in their first half against USA (FG% was over 60% which is insane). You can lose by shooting poorly (USA shot 25% from 3 against south sudan). Players have improved internationally. USA is not playing well together right now. Their team compositions (players that have received more minutes) so far favor popularity rather than efficiency. It's setting themselves up for an upset. Curry for example has been shooting terribly for most games & he is old, but will likely get more minutes due to his fame. Embiid is another liability that teams continue to attack. Maybe things will change in actual tourney but so far it looks like USA is setting themselves up for failure strategy wise.
Germany just has a great overall team with great chemisty. They are even still missing Hartenstein and Kleber, who are propably 2 of their 5 Top player on paper. Theis is also very underrated and some NBA Team should finally wake up and pick up Obst.
@@BIuezy It's not about believing - it's about probabilities. The Olympic format is unforgiving compared to the past: teams again have only 3+3 games, instead of 5+3, and this means that one bad game can ruin everything - for anyone. The US is definitely going to be in the quarter-finals, but they might end up against a tough team that had a bad game in group play and is now ready to bounce back; and if the US is going to have it's off day against this team...it will go down to the wire.
We are underestimated like Spain in Football before their second title. We have a golden generation but we are still not a super power in BBall. But this Generation is golden and there is coming more. Maybe we will be become an power like Spain, France or Serbia in the future. I trust them to go the whole way.
as a few more of the other teams (Sudan, Australia Serbia etc), needed 1-2 more players (especially a top center or playmaker) to win USA, as they brought 12 -their best, to secure a win at last, while all the others have 6-7.
its not just the germans. every european team plays better basketball than the US because they dont rely on isolations and athleticism. we learn how to cut, block, pass and move from a very young age.
Great video and it all cames down to the point that the US and the world can ve grateful to us germans that we are the world Champions and humiliated your team last year! Because that is why we all can see the dream team this year and if they win against us at the olympics so what we are still the world Champions then 😉
Germany is literally the 2014-2015 Atlanta Hawks. Schroeder was on the Hawks, Obst is Korver, Franz is Millsap, Theis/ Mo are budget Horfords. Both teams have/had elite ball movement and an overachieving team that knows how to play and at time looked better than Lebron's teams. That is until Lebron swept them in the playoffs. It doesn't matter if Lebron is 29, 39, 49, or 59 he's not losing to Schroeder and Theis and he's definitely not losing while surrounded by a team of superstars. Lebron had 20/6/4 points on 8/11 FGs in 18 minutes against Germany. Germany has no answer for him that doesn't destroy their entire defense. When the games get serious, Lebron is going to play 30+ minutes and the U.S. is going to win.
Dude, they got like no coverage after the world cup win because football (soccer) of course needed to make it about them once again in Germany. Still glad it shifted the view of Basketball in Germany at least a bit. I'm not alone on my court anymore 😅 Hopefully the Olympia Coverage about/for Germany will be better & Basketball will grow further. But tbh also, they struggled during the World Cup alot & Serbia was there with a very young Team. I don't care who wins, everyone deserves it because no entertainment issues like in the NBA & it will take skill & good team effort (of course some bad calls gonna happen, it is what it is) The pressure on Team USA is something that shouldn't be underestimated either because as physical as hooping is, it's also a mental game ALOT!
As a german, who suffered from the bad teams in the years past dirk, the last two tournaments were heaven for me. And this Olympics will be too, no matter how successful the get. After this, I think Dennis will retire from national competition and I don't think there is an adaquate replacement right now as point guard. Will be a problem.
Shame Kleber had the falling out with the team as he would be great too. Had the feeling yesterday that swapping those two in for some of the more mediocre players perhaps Bonga and Da Silva (DNP yesterday) would make them scary. Still think they'll challenge though.
Well, it is practically the same team that is ruliing world champions, I am also in wonder why they are so low rated. It stands that many last year contenders comes now stronger than last year, starting with USA, Serbia, Cannada and France, but again, they will for sure pass to elliminaton phase and from quarterfinnals, everything is possible... After all, I didn't believe in them to pass last year USA team in semi-final, not to talk about Serbia, but they did it ...
World champions of what exactly? They're world champions because they beat a bunch of teams missing their best players? Did they have to face a single top 10 player in the world? No? No jokic? No giannis? No Luka? No SGA? No American superstars? Sorry, but calling them 'world champions' is a joke. The winners of the fiba world cup will never be a world champion, thanks to the simple fact that they don't actually play the best.
@@krisxchirbas9503 Oh, but there was Luka Dončić and SGA, you know, this season 2nd and 3rd MVP candidates... And there was no Giannis becasue HE DIDN'T qualify, and God knows he tried giving 40 points to Serbia in qualification game, playing maybe the game of his life, but it still was not enough... You know what, on FIBA national team rankings, USA is still on 1st place, but that Germans you scorn are 3rd, just couple of hundred points behind, so if they get better placement on this Olympics than USA, they will surpass them on ALL TIME FIBA ranking list. ALL TIME, my friend... P. S. And the reason is that Germany probably plays 10 time more international games than USA. So again, you don't compette, you pick and choose, and then ask to be recognized as best. Sorry, it doesn't work that way...
Frankly, team USA is not going to flop again with this stacked roster in the Olympics. Legendary veterans and rising stars will be the backbone of team USA eviscerating the rest of the world.
Honestly I think team USA did not show their best basketball yet. However same will go for some teams. South Sudan has peaked immensly already wheraes is feel teams like Serbia and Germany can pick it up a notch. Aside from Canada, Serbia and Germany i don't see any team beat them, but those three have a standing chance especially in a play off round afther the group stages.
Well, the germans... team bonding, organization, communication, personal ego takes a break for teamwork and then BLITZKRIEG! Just kidding about the last one, but i remember in middle school when we learned to play basketball in school, our sports teachers were trying to teach us that in step 2: space out, break free, hand gestures to communicate in attack. It felt like as a basketball player, you'd need 3 extra pairs of eyes: One to see where you running, one for the ball, one for the team mates and one for the other team.
Serbia is definitely winning gold. They finally have a somewhat healthy roster and they are playing beautiful basketball right now. Team USA is playing awful
@@slefferz8479I am not Serbian nor American the game was super odd. It seems like Serbia let themselves get destroyed on purpose. They were head to head till halftime then all of a sudden they forget to play ball and lose by 30 no chanceee. The Serbians did that on purpose I am super convinced on that.
@@aewisjericho8848I agree. Coach Pesic didn’t even waste a timeout in the second half. USA biggest weakness is their arrogance and underestimating their competition. 12 All Stars / NBA legends do not make a perfect team. Go world basketball 🏀🔥🏀
About the integration of Hartenstein or last year Kleber, they committed for a three year span so that they can build automatism and a team spirit ... And avoid cherry picking, that the stars just play the olympics, and the rest either dont qualifiying for it, or watching there succes from the couch. But about Hartenstein in generell i am not even sure, he wanted to play this year - and Kleber isnt helping that much anymore. The roles and teamwork are the real key for the team, talent wise we germans aint bad but i believe many nations are better. it is hard to explain, but you will the intensivity of this team - and you have the feeling that they ar e friends even when they argue with each other.
5 year commitment in 2019... and Kleber was part of that 2019 WC team that commited itself. But he was injured in 2022 after a long PO run. Schröder just didnt belive him and wanted him off the team. So Maxi did the right thing by stepping down. And Hartenstein would be on the roster (for DaSilva), but he is expecting his 1st child right when the Olympic tournament is going on. Hence why he withdrew.
Is Germany counting as a Dark Horse on this Olympics? Even as WC, they feel like, Spain in the football euros before the tournament: individual some strong Players, but no really Allstars/HoF-Players and a System, which was envolved over the last years, where everyone got clear roles and also shows/helps to find the strongest side of each squad member. From what i saw, Germany is playing the best Team-Basketball.
It’s seems like they memorized as a team plays for every situation. That’s very German and to a lesser extent European of them. People like to talk about the superior fundamentals of the Europeans but I think their memorization of team-plays are as noteworthy.
Hey man. USA is coming in with a chip on their shoulder. I hope they come in and play with no mercy but like them the European sides should never underestimate, especially the US squad.
Germany is for sure solid! Side note: Love to see everyone trashing Team USA knowing a few weeks from now those same people will complain how unfair it is because of population size. Which one is it?
High chance for them to get knocked out this year. I would not be so cocky right now... Serbia did not play full speed in the 2nd half, germany missed ton of open shots in the 4th quarter. Both of these teams will be scary for team USA if they meet them in the knockout stage.
@@MrSheduurSerbia was down by double digits before the second half, they will get blown out again. If you think there is a high chance they don't win gold, you are truly delusional
@@MrSheduur You're giving the benefit of the doubt to the teams that lost instead of the team that won when everything you just mentioned can also be said about the US (who will only gain chemistry with each game). Not to mention they haven't even had KD yet who's the best scorer in Team USA history.
Nobody would be saying that 💀 the only reason ppl are trashing the Usa are their fans and their arrogance. Y’all couldn’t cut us some slack even if it would mean dying a horrible death
It is not the population size that influences. It is the attention that each country gives to the sport. The most followed sport in the world is football and basketball is just another sport. Sorry. Most of the kids learn to play football and their dream is to become football starts. Football also moves a lot of money, the media is much more focused on football than basketball. As a result in some countries we have less high level basket players to choose from because all those kids had chosen football instead. The same reason applies to USA with football. If you'd gave the same importance to football than basket you will probably be in the elite but for you it is just another sport.
Serbia in that finals actually played bad. Germany cant win another one. Either Usa or Serbia wilk stop it. But France was great tonight as well. So we'll see, but honestly, Germans dont have more than the others at all. They are good of course, but others in semis are as well. Its hard to beat usa though this year, first Serbia, than if they come through again. They really brought best players. But after this Serbia win. Man, best game of the tournament. Than France beat Canada in also great game. I like it. 😁 its just great to watch. 😁😁😁
Wake up wake up. I see you can’t hear me you are stuck in that Genjutsu from the Sharingan. Now Let me know when you wake up from that dream & you are living back in reality
This is just glazing, I can tell the biase as you never mentioned the weakness of the german team while focusing on the in the US video. And no the german offense is not unstoppable as proven in the late game vs the US. After all this time top european teams can barely beat a US team without continuation.
Yup he’s biased, just like y’all are 💀 the only reason ppl hating on the usa team is their fans. Y’all can’t cut us some slack. Before these exhibition games y’all said you’d win every single game by such a large margin, they’re unbeatable and what not, the new dream team. Now that they look very beatable y’all be changing up saying "actually the only thing that matters is taking the W ☝🏻🤓" Instead of just acknowledging other teams for once, you’d rather die than doing that
@@Mika-me3og My problem is that, every video about the US has no balance. Its always the bad side. Just like the video about the germans is all positive but their issues are not stated. The US is the most successful Men's basketball team of all time, of course they're confident, anyone would be, just look at every successful team and their fans in Futbol. Ya'll just hating for no reason.

People saying USA needs to be humbled. Bro we were humbled by South Sudan. Sure we won but we know this isn’t going to be a cake walk and we should win gold. Upsets happen, and if anybody knows that it’s the two best players of team USA and the coach. 2016 was one of the biggest upsets of all time. America got humbled. We just haven’t been beaten down. I think theirs a lot of people just wishing on the downfall of USA because LeBron and because nobody likes when a nation just dominates besides the nation that’s dominating. I think this will be the last Olympics were USA is favored for gold in the Olympics but people just being salty. Hartenstein opted out because he became father recently. It's wrong that he was denied his spot. Herbert asked 3 years ago for commitment of 3 years with goals at EuroBasket world xup and Olympics. The team we sea now is the one that committed bacl than. Hartenstein was nowhere near his current standing back then....
