Unfortunately Hungary opened its borders for Putin's agents and Russia's allies from Belarus. Border controls could protect Germany from Russians. Furthermore: randomly controls at the border to Denmark since a couple of years - it's their right. And The Netherlands plan to reintroduce border controls as well - and no-one complains.
All of this was so foreseeable since 2015. We really need to grow up in Germany and become adults. It’s immature to believe that the world is full of kindness. As Trotsky said: “ you may not be interested in war but war is interested in you”
That's how they are referred to in the EU legislation and by the International Organization for Migration. Crossing a border is not illegal, remaining in the country for longer than you are eligible to, is.
They do not refer to any immigrants, when they say “irregular immigrants” that is a euphemism for those who violate the immigration law in one way or another. I will say, I’m glad they are using this term and not any other.
@@gtrdxz I meant many of them enter through the German/Polish border not that they are Polish. If Poland is so great at keeping borders safe how do they travel through the country?
@@soundscape26 because some will always slip under the radar. Poland should be apologized to because of the constant bashing they've experienced along with Hungary from woke EU countries for standing up to this madness.
You should include Malta, it's getting so bad. One third of the workers are third country nationals and if you include other EU citizens and UK citizens you will end up living in the most populated and suffocating country in the world.
@@mrtee3477 No, you don't get arrested because of it. "Entering a country in an irregular manner, or staying with an irregular status, is not a criminal offence but an infraction of administrative regulations."
Something can be within legal boundaries - therefore be legal. Or something can be outside of legal boundaries - therefore illegal. Not only criminal offenses that that result in arrest and can be directly punished by prison are illegal. Driving 10 kilometers per hour more than the road limits isn't legal. Yet it won't result in prison time, only a fine and is not criminal breach of laws. You seem to have insufficient proficiency of English hence you're using those invalid, inner EU definitions that aren't correct when speaking common English.
Calm down. As a leading EU member, Germany is expected to balance national interests with European solidarity. Border controls do not necessarily indicate a contradiction in values, but rather a response to specific challenges that various EU countries, including Germany, are facing. Hungary has built physical barriers, whereas Germany has focused more on humanitarian solutions, even if temporary controls are in place. Germany operates within the EU legal framework when it comes to border controls and respects EU-wide decisions. In contrast, some countries may act outside of these frameworks, which is often why Germany criticizes them. Claiming that Germany has 'absolutely 0 shame' oversimplifies a complex issue. Border controls are a legal and temporary measure allowed under the Schengen Agreement to address specific security concerns, not a reflection of national shame or hypocrisy.
Easy, wait next 9 years and few extra millions of illegals and then maybe eurocrats will start considering it. From what is seen in Germany there is no other way to handle such manners outside of voting radicals which is honestly very sad and shows how terrible is state of politics in Europe at the moment.
I completely agree, going your own way nationally is not the way forward, closing borders against each other within EU is not helping European unity at a time when we need to stick together more than ever. In fact, what is needed for Europe to be competitive in the future is a deeper cooperation and integration with each other, not more national interests, as that will not make us stronger or more competitive here. What should have been done, while nurturing and standing up for the fundamental right of free movement within EU and especially within the Schengen block, would have been for example to go to Brussels for an extraordinary gathering and call for an emergency action plan to curb irregular migration at the EU level faster than the planned two years perhaps given the recent events in Germany and create a joint action plan anchored e.g., in the European council, something that could have been done within one or two days, and in the meantime give the German police a clear directive, and the resources, to actually execute the decisions to reject or deport the thousands of rejected asylum seekers who have already had their right tried and received a rejection decision rather, similar to the preparator in Solingen, something that could actually make a difference in the short-term potentially and that can be done fully within existing common rules. Border controls can be introduced in extraordinary times, but I wonder if this situation is really that severe though, maybe it is. As it stands though, I think this action is ultimately a sign of weakness not having the coolness to resist populist ideas and calls for actions that will accomplish little in practice except for making AfD stronger. Even though I'm quite pessimistic about it, let's hope the controls are indeed lifted after 6 months this time, and that we take a step back and create a long-term plan how we together can nurture and develop the European freedoms and integration, and ensure each individual's right of having the need, or not, of asylum tried, while still ensuring that migration is indeed controlled.
@@andrzejnadgirl2029 I like the idea of EU but I dont like many bureaucrats in it. some have absolutely alien ideas that are very different from what majority wants. but the simple fact is that Europe can only have successful future in global terms, as a united continent. otherwise - forget competing with China, Russia, India, Brazil or USA as a seperate nations.
@@Jackie-ji2sj , everybody have the right to come and seek asylum, so there is no irregular/illegal imigrants and it will not do anything to "close" the borders because when they say i want asylum they have to let them in, it is their HUMAN RIGHTS. ;--)))
Open border is a Schengen space policy not a EU policy. You cannot cross freely border from an EU country to another EU country if both countries are not in Schengen.
Protect its borders??? They defiled and gaslighted every country that didn't go along with the insanity they brought to the continent. Their policies ruined this continent both socially and economically. Open borders was a project for us, Europeans, not everyone. What did they expect? They let everyone outside the EU in, unchecked.
I remember David Cameron when he was the UK prime minister going to the EU asking for the same thing. The EU rejected the UK ask for temporary help and massively affected the Brexit vote…
@@rodmarker2071 totally agree but don’t forget the rich and powerful in the UK who spread the disinformation…. I know plenty of close friends, work colleagues and family who regrets their choice and are sickened that they fell for the leave BS.
In Europe, there's a growing sense of neglect towards the younger generation. They face lower salaries, longer work hours, and increased responsibilities while witnessing a surge in billionaires, particularly in countries like Germany. The housing market adds to their woes, as property prices soar, making it difficult to afford homes, let alone start families. To compensate, cheap labor from abroad is often favored, leading to frustration among the youth, who feel betrayed. People aren't inherently racist, but this frustration arises when governments prioritize external labor over addressing domestic issues. It's high time politicians acknowledge and tackle these pressing concerns rather than resorting to distractions. The younger generation deserves meaningful change.
Immigration adds to this. Higher population in an inflated economy causes demand and higher prices, which impacts those on lower earnings - generally younger. That cycle keeps going on so much that any innovation which is intended to bring down costs, can't keep up with this ongoing demand. Then instead of dealing with the problems at the start, they throw money at it in 5-10 years time thinking that will solve the problem, but it won't.
"We closed the borders during Corona". This is not true. Across the media you'd hear about closed borders which was meant to scare you and keep you at home. But in fact, driving from Germany to Poland and Holland was as it has been - no control whatsoever and smooth. Germany imposed a border control with Poland and Austria last year: cars don't get pulled over, they just cause traffic because the three-lane highways squeeze down into one lane as you cross the border. The police is there, yes, with lights and weapons, but they don't stop cars. They stop only passenger buses (and perhaps trucks randomly) to check for papers.
It’s the whole point of EU. You don’t need to guard the German border with Netherlands - how else would Aachen seniors get to the fish market on Sunday?
@@user-ke7vd2sc6s Jesus! Comparing going from town to town with going from one country to another🤦♂️ The purpose of reinstating border checks is precisely to check non EU citizens and barr them from entering into Germany if they don't have proper documentation.
Sweden is not suffering because of Merkel's policies. It's about the policy swedish govt. introduced in 80's called "here is my land - here is your land" inviting everyone. ANd that's how Sweden is living today.
Is that country that invited all imigrants to come to Europe. And were pushing other countyes to welcome them as well. They were telling us that they are doctors and engeneers. That we need them. They are coming in peace.
@@soundscape26 there are EU funds for frontier countries specifically though as a threat of destabilization of EU rises via illegal migration then maybe EU should rise them and issue improving securing border policies. Overall nowadays legal situation when preventing such activities is simply outdated and doesn't fit current situation.
@@soundscape26It wouldn't,if the E.U. didn't have their NGOs supporting illegal entrance and hampering each country instead of helping it to secure its border crossings. This is a highly profitable business and too many people - traffickers are involved.
The true is when Germany does something is OK for them when other countries do something German government says no This kind of politics shows how German Government try’s show who the boss is The true is Germany like other countries are doomed little bit to late When Poland said no illegal imigration Germany called Poland racist now let them sink
The attack perpetrator was in Germany because of laggish judiciary procedures, bureaucracy and legal loopholes, but yeah the solution is to raise border checks because you know Germany's neighbors is Syria.🙄
I am feeling like I am in some sort of bad scripted tragicomedy now. A knife attack in a knife making city by a known criminal who’s apparently not right in his head and is also a bad integrated immigrant in most populated and economically strong region of Germany right before regional elections in a poorer region that provoked a right wing populists to get an edge that in only couple of weeks makes the country go full isolationist just like that, in a country that is known for years of paperwork and procedures for anything
I do not understand the issue. EU citizens have at least ID or diploma (driving licence) with them, so no restrictions . People who have permanent residency will show the appropriate papers. Only people who really have something to hide would be impacted.
Many people - especially Germans - who complain about border controls in spend their vacations in countries with border controls, where visa are necessary, with many other restrictions and do not complain - they travel to these countries voluntarily!
waiting in lines. if you have to cross the border twice daily to go to work and back home, then waiting in line twice daily is really annoying really fast.
Living in Luxembourg, I can concur. But this can and will be automated sooner or later. The long term prospects are disproportionately beneficial@@dorkstarling615
Walls and fences are being built on external EU borders as we speak and that’s where they need to be. Reinstating borders with Belgium or Poland is just dumb populist nonsense.
There's isn't much in this story. Germany have been doing border checks on cross border trains and buses for years. The only change here is that they'll now check some cars too. Bit of a non story to be honest.
now remember that several years ago the trend was to hug anyone arriving from anywhere without asking anything. Quite a radical change yet to many with rational thinking this was obvious from the start. They also need to apologies to the Hungarians and Poles....
Hungary built a fence at the southern border to keep schengen area safe. Costed 100+ million Euro. EU did not pay any of it. in fact punished Hungary with 200 million euro.
3:48 Until 1995 Germany and all other Schengen area countries Controlled their own borders and there was no issue about it. I even think there should be random checkpoints all across the country, not just by the border.
Yeah, it's BS! Placate the far right at the cost of European unity. Meanwhile anyone who really wants to get in just crosses through a field somewhere 🙄
So we left the EU for no reason. This is what the Brexiters were arguing for and were told that it was against the EU’s rules. I voted against Brexit but this the rules are the rules until it suits Germany makes me wonder if I was wrong about the EU.
Open borders worked when Europe was serious with guarding its external borders instead of using our border forces to provide ferry services to people smugglers. Slowly we will lose all our goodies here in the EU due to the inability of leadership to enforce laws and finally put some order in the illegal and uncontrolled migration.
Just to clarify, Hungary doesnt pay gratificatios or deport anyone bebause they chose to do it. In turn the EU is holding back Billions of Euros of payment to Hungary.
Germany is the primary culprit in introducing this illegal immigration disaster. Germany was promoting this madness for years and now all of us have to pay for this.
Germany plans to reintroduce controls at all its land borders? Isn't it against the rules?, oh wait, Germany makes the rules, so it doesn't apply to them :-)
Whether you agree or not this is the best they can do, there's legitimate reason why the far-right is winning, the people definitely has influence in this decision, as saying goes, Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
Yes, everything looks more and more like some german politicians are on russian payroll. First, after the annexation of crimea, all of sudden half of africa and central asia wanted to move into europe and germany was celebrating this and working hard toward stopping countries who wanted to guard their borders properly. Then they built pipeline for russia avoiding the rest of europe - directly to russia and just few weeks ago germany was attacking poland for their approach towards belarussian borders...
Im from Netherlands i completely understand the reason but here we have people living at the border where kids from germany come to school in Netherlands what about them? And doesn't this go agains the eu open border rules?
The Netherlands plan to reintroduce border controls as well. But why not? People who have nothing to hide show their passport or identity card. Denmark has randomly border controls since 8 years! In case of border-controls people without or with invalid passports are rejected. Furthermore, many people travel voluntarily to countries with border controls and many other restrictions - and don't complain.

EU must help solve the economic/social/political issues in the countries of origin. Maybe the EU institutions are afraid that this could be seen as “New Colonialism”.
Why should EU solve others peoples problems? If people in sudan wants some crazy leaders, they should live with them. Or what is the alternative? That EU sends their troops and change their leadership and run their country against their will? Eu has its own problems to solve, can not and should not try to solve the whole planet.
