I started at an HBCU and 2 yrs later transferred to a major university. The differences are like night and day. Major university was more competitive. Learned more about the big picture. It takes a helluva lot more focus to succeed at a major uni compared to a HBCU. If you don't feel like you can compete at that level, then yes, go to a HBCU.

@A_Notes
@A_Notes Год назад
I agree. But you have to understand why affirmative action was put in place. If the white power structure was never practicing discriminatory back then, there wouldn't have been a need to have affirmative action now. That's why pre 1960s blks were thriving economically because we had our own because these white folks wasn't trying to work with us unless we were willing to be their plow horse rather than being the plower. Knew several students who aced high school, walked through the "front door" of a major university and flunked out. It happens. Not crazy about racism in any form. I am likewise uncomfortable with institutional preferences to legacy applicants or those with fortuitous political connections to school administrators.
@monember2722
@monember2722 Год назад
I feel it is important that black kids succeed. It's been the result for decades that many talented capable black students get recruited for ivy league and other highly competitive universities and then they flunk out or a high amount switch to a less competitive major because they are in with students who had a more challenging course load throughout their school years. They often are let in with lower grades for the sake of diversity but the school is only concerned with numbers they don't deal with the results of the mismatched qualifications. The students suffer and then come out thinking they suffered racism because they couldn't keep up. Liberals at every turn screw black people over and too many of us do t see it.

The problem with affirmative action is how it was applied. There were fully qualified and overly qualified black applicants to institutions who were denied admission solely because of race. This is where affirmative action should have been utilized. It should have been geared toward making whole these individuals. If the Tuskegee Airmen were denied employment at major airlines and were prevented from employment based on race rather than their qualifications,Affirmative action would be warranted.The application of affirmative action should be utilized in this instance. There were many situations where an unfair restriction prevented the hiring of black candidates. The way it was done also negatively impacted HBCU schools. Sometimes the application of rules and laws do unintended damage in their application. Affirmative action would be more effective and viable if those who were its proponents had given more critical thought to its implementation.

The problem with AA is that detractors call it a hand out, although it's the opposite. AA is used exactly how you described it but media and racists try to convince that the schools are helping the needy. What Crowder and Whitlock don't understand is that the young woman needed to meet the same basic qualifiers as all other students. She's in the school because she proved she could pass her course, not out of charity. Also, AA isn't for black people. It's for all citizens, even white males. All the propaganda is make the public reject the program and dismantle it.

You have to first be able to padd the admission standards to gain access to any college. If you can do the work is debatable. I wonder what the percentage is of non black (white) students who flunk out of the socalled prestigious universities.
