I like this concept of someone using the dragon balls to wish to be the strongest in the universe. It's just different enough from the old "immortality wish" to be interesting.
The Granola arc started with the ominous prophecy: "The Strongest Warrior In The Universe Will Soon Rise Up..." At first it was Granola himself who made that very wish with the Cerealian Dragon Balls, but then it was Gas who became the strongest by a wish from The Heaters & finally Frieza comes up and takes out Gas & reveals his new form "Black Frieza" & one shots Goku & Vegeta in their Ultra forms. At that point it seemed that Frieza was the one the Oracle Fish talked about in his prophecy, but Whis doubts it & says that the actual strongest might have emerged elsewhere. After that the Dragon Ball Super Superhero movie arc takes places with Gohan going Beast & easily destroying the kaiju Cell Max. Perhaps Gohan Beast was the strongest warrior prophesized by the Oracle Fish, but we don't know of the Oracle Fish saw that battle or not.
Granola is super cool and I love his fighting style. He's one of my favorite characters. I hope they put him in some games, if they do I'm maining him.
Finding those Dragon Balls should have been a little more complicated. When Frieza was looking for the Dragon Balls on Namek to wish for immortality, it held more weight. It wasn’t easy at all.
@@TheRealCellus the reason why it was a two dragon ball, the reason for the news broadcast, the reason he made the wish he made, it all falls under the same theme. Power, too easily gained will be surpassed by those who work hard . That’s why by the end of the arc Goku and Vegeta surpassed Gas and granolah And Frieza surpassed everyone through training It was supposed to be as easy as possible narratively to create as large of juxtaposition as possible
@@HC-gm4fothey could’ve made his search for the balls a bit more challenging and interesting,it still would’ve resonated with the arc’s theme cuz at the end of the day going from namek saga level to ui with a wish is still a shortcut no matter how hard the search was.Not to mention it was contrived as hell and VERY coincidental,it just served to push granolah further away from the audience and it made us not care about him at all.If we actually spent time with him it would’ve been so much better. They could’ve also made the wish cost him more and leave him with like 3 days to live,it would’ve put a sense of urgency in the story and at the end of the arc it would give us an explanation as to why granolah won’t be used in the future anymore cuz they will definitely waste his character
@@bkay9935 I get what you’re saying but it would 100% take away from the theme. It’s honestly the best arc in super narratively. It might be slightly more entertaining, but it would be objectively worse narratively. I didn’t feel that way at all. Granolah was an amazing character. The depth of the arc was so good that it didn’t belong in Dragon Ball. Every part of this arc was extremely well done. The theme of what true power is. I’ve always noticed the less the popular RU-vidrs understand/like an arc or concept , the less likely the community is to like it. For example majority of the community hated on GT scholar made it popular by breaking down the narrative, and scaling
Personally I think everyone in the Granolah Arc are bad especially with the Bardock Simping, there was so much mental gymnastics to make his actions heroic despite it being implied he helped wipe out the Cerealians.
Imagine making a saga based on granolah wanting to get revenge against freezer and having the two of them not interact even once despite being in the same place😂
The only real issue I have with the Granolah arc is that it feels like it should have been two arcs instead of one. The first one should have been entirely all about Granolah himself as the main protagonist, taking down the Heeters. Include some bits and pieces of Bardock flashback here and there to tie things together, but ultimately have Granolah as the hero in the end. Then for the second arc, re-introduce Goku and Vegeta, do the whole thing with Granolah challenging them to a fight and connecting Bardock back in and everything, have Goku and Vegeta "win" by getting through to Granolah that they're not bad guys after a long and hard fought battle, and then everyone gets one tapped by Black Freeza to set him up as a threat down the line. By dividing the arc into two this way, each arc gets to revolve around its own theme. The first arc is all about Granolah, his history, his rise as a hero, and the defeat of his bad guys. The second arc is all about connecting his story to the Saiyans, shifting his worldview on them, and eventually him entrusting his mission to take down Freeza to them. By spreading things out like this, the whole thing would end up feeling a lot less rushed and cobbled together. Overall, I'd describe the Granolah arc as a lot of good ideas, characters, and moments crammed into way too small of a time span. The pacing and theming is all over the place and it can sometimes feel hard to keep up with even just the power dynamics of who is stronger than who.
Granola is an antagonist like 17 or 18, not Cell. Good or bad, he’s a stepping stone to the main villain. So when Gas showed up, they should have just renamed it, like they did when Cell showed up…. That would stop the shinning about “it’s called the granola arc! He’s not even in it anymore” (That doesn’t negates any other points people have. Just that one point)
I'm hoping when super returns this arc gets a complete refresh. Nothing much needs to be changed from moro. But this definitely needs more care and attention.
I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment, he had all the ingredients for a great character. Cool design, Cool fighting style, cool archetype, cool powers, but as usual, dragon ball limits it's story by wanting it to be more self-contained than what something like this should be. Granolah hates frieza yet doesn't actually go after him or his army or has any real interaction with him. They spend so much time on what should be his story to focus on giving him bland dialogue without any thought put into it and no exploration of the universe. It's unfortunate that I have to wait for better material in the video games and fan creations for characters with so much potential. A Gas rivalry wpuld have been so awesome for future arcs to delve into a bit. Good work scholar P.S: It pisses me off that both Gas and Elec were killed, Those 2 are the most interesting heeters and actually makes universe 7 more interesting by having a mafia boss and schemer be the headliner of the arc while gas is the muscle. Why kill both instead of just one? I could see Gas maturing from his brother's manipulation and showing off that he's not a puppet anymore, taking the reigns from his brother and ditching his strongest in the universe power to achieve real strength. A rival for granolah to surpass legitimately or Elec using his cunning to manipulate others into fighting another battle with frieza. why kill both of them? It's such a damn waste.
When the granola arc started i thought OG73 was going to be used again to possibly fulfill the Oracle Fish strongest warrior prophecy, but the arc focused on mainly Granola & The Heaters
To be honest aside from the wish, I did found Granolahs story pretty interesting and a cool character design. There were some weird parts tho. I really like Granolah.
I always understood the limits of the Dragon Balls like that: You can‘t wish to have more power than their creator. Seems like I understood this wrong and all the villains of the previous arcs could‘ve been dealt with a lot easier. Yamcha bodying Cell would‘ve been a sight to behold…
The ocelot part is exactly what I said bro aww man….literally had to edit this comment cause yeaaaaa you could literally erase his whole presence and it will still be relevant in different ways
Yeah, I'd like to see the sayians start a rebellion against the Freiza force that'd be dope just because I haven't seen the Freiza force since Dragan ball Z or super or revival F But anyways God bless everyone who comes across this comment 🙌🏽✝️🕊🔥
I don't get why people think it's a good arc and demand it to be animated. You really wanna sit through that dragged out fight in animation form? Dragged out even more. At least with the manga you can read it faster or skim over the panels with your eyes. Can't do that in animation. At least before this arc people had to mostly work for their power ups. Wishing for power on the dragons not only goes against established lore regarding what types of wishes can be made, but it also sucks Dballs from a story perspective. It's boring, lazy, bad writing. It takes away not just from the dballs themselves and the character making the wish, but also all the previous conflicts in the story. Not to mention the fact he knew how to control and handle that power straight away, despite long established lore showing that's not been the case even for masters. And now this whole wishing for power is becoming a trope / staple of the series... with other characters jumping on board with it. Without the consequences and with ZERO character development. Piccolo (and the audience) learning about his people's history, and reconnecting with them in a way that helps him unlock his true power would've made for a great arc / movie / side plot. Could've written it as the true power of the nameless Namekian, locked away thanks to his lack of memories and the fact Piccolo is a reincarnation and not the original. Anyway, back to this trash arc.... Bardocks retcons were trash, and it cheapens Goku and raises questions about Raditz. Don't give me any excuses about translations and such, it doesn't make sense either way. Vegeta spent all of Z learning his ego was the very thing holding him back and causing him (and others) problems. Now it's what gives him the most power and even a new (ugly af) transformation? More bad writing, and more retcons. The Heaters and Granolah were a waste of time, and Frieza showing up with his own magical off-screen power up is also another example of bad writing. Frieza coming back for the 5th (6th?) time time is bad enough. He should've stayed dead either on Namek or after Trunks finished him off. Everything after that has also cheapened and ruined him. Just like everything else in this arc cheapens and ruins long established and well loved character and lore. The only thing remotely interesting, and what I've wanted to see more of, is the remnants of Frieza's empire and how his death affected it. But even that was mostly glossed over and ignored. I'd love to see how fractured the empire and armies became trying to fill the power vaccum left after Frieza and King Cold's death.
That's so true Goku and Vegeta overshadowed Granolah just like with future trunks should of been Granolah more and his quest for revenge training thru space sniping
The show is DragonBall. Anytime they use DragonBalls for something other than bulmas ass. Is better than training to get stronger or a rage boost. I think thats a greater storytelling than stealing energy even. Literally the show called DragonBall. 😂
Uhhh no. Gas was trash. I actually didn't like the heaters or gas. I liked granola and the 2 dragonballs that went with him. He to me was the only good part to the story cause it was a change. They messed it up with gas though.
@@Angenano gas was trash though. Like literally got taken out by Frieza. Who I was tired of before RoF. I prefer buu arc and buu to me is the best villian of z. Still gas just wasn't an interesting villain. His ending before frieza one shot was going great. I would of loved if the story ended with him turning to dust but before that being unstoppable. Like he was the reason he died not frieza. Not saying I don't like frieza. Just never felt like a villain. More a an angry ruler that conquers and leads. To the frieza force. He is their hero.
People like to mock the strength wish but truth is Orange Piccolo was planned well before that, there was either a hack or files deleted for Super Hero I forget. Granola was strong enough to fight an army of 73 clones with all the strength data, how much of the strength of Gohan or Moro left behind is a mystery but the Galactic Prison goons stated he got naturally stronger even without deliberately using the forms. Granola was a tough sniper, probably not 73 Moro strength but beyond Goku Black and probably Super Broly (maybe youth Moro level). He wasn't some weakling where the wish felt unfair. This strength wish was a maximized strength at the age it was, this wasn't something he physically wouldn't reach, at age 297(?) he would be able to reach that strength. Granola was hype and cool. Problem is Gas just took over and the dozens of times of healing undercut everything. Granola was half of Granola multiformed the whole time. Vegeta scaring the living shit out of everyone. The story just sucked when everyone tapped out for a Sensu or Moniato healing every two seconds. Yeah Dende may have healed Krillin, Gohan, and Vegeta but it's not like Vegeta got healed a dozen times and became a Super Saiyan. Then when Toyotaro wrote himself into a corner and needed an end then Black Freeza kills Gas.
Whole Bardack thing was the worse thing for me that came out of this whole arc. I mean it felt like the worse type of fan fiction (which Super has been for me for a long while and still is, especially in term of dialog which is always so plunt and repetitive something which Z even at it very worse was not) acting like Goku would care much about knowing about his father beyond being like "Oh, alright neat." I don't understand how can any fan of DB actually think that Super is good? I mean I don't care if people like to read/watch it despite it many, many, many flaws, but when they try to explain that it is actually good and even insightful, I always wonder if we are even seeing the same thing.
I liked Bardock better when he was evil and no better than Frieza himself. That and his Minus design is SO UGLY 😭 Bardock not being a special Saiyan with a kind heart IS what makes him interesting, and it makes his death a lot more impactful knowing he definitely deserved it to an extent. Super ruins not only what Bardock’s character was, but how it affected Goku’s relationship to his Saiyan heritage being boiled down to his genes rather than the result of hitting his head and being nurtured on Earth; Same reason I hate Gine. Overall, Super is a terrible cash grab in an attempt to sell more toys and ride off the success of the franchise’s rising relevancy after BOG and Res.F. #NotMyBardock
@@rnpee bardock was never more evil than freeza bro the reason he knew about freeza was explained in this arc lol bardock was always like this we just never knew much about him until now
Love your content and thank you for how clear clean and honest your delivery is. I'm thinking that these sagas or arcks will be added to dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 4 (sparkling zero) I'm hoping it's not downloadable content, but I'm sure I'll find a way yep sorry I've never once onlined gamed or been online for downloadable content, that's the main reason I thought that blast limits sucked not the game, the fact we came from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will almost everything on it on the disc to ps2 format to Blue Ray format and it only had up to the cell saga like they pulled off a ps 1 to ps2 with this from final bout and such to Budokai 1, so I'm hoping it's not the case for this game as it's not the actual first dragon ball game for these next gen consoles, but that don't seem to be the case from the trailer seen db super Goku and Vegeta and other characters in it, question why have we not had a dragon ball game that started at dragon Ball and grew Goku up from a baby, why is it that is always unlocked or downloadable content, let's hope sparking zero gets it right, and it's an option on the game (all theories of course) at the end of z if you either want to go down the path of super or gt at that point, until they actually decide what they are going to and if so connect dbz db super and db gt, do you or anyone else have any idea what is going on with this, In sparking zero you still get to go back in the game after dbz to take the other path, and after you fully clear the game that let's you take db super characters into db gt and the other way around, like in the main story you can take Goku end of z that still goes down the path of ui or even ssj god or a version of that with the power up from been powerd up by fellow ssj's and base forms, like it's a technique in the game after competition of certain tasks against Omega shenron or even fused ssj blue or god gogeta, and other way around you can take end of z Goku into super but with the gt story and ssj 4 Goku and Vegeta in the t.o.p but actually official in the storyline of what one you pick, just a thought instead of what if sagas they are actually incorporated into the main game, would this not be a good idea for multiple newish play throughs for newer game experiences? What are your thoughts people? Peace All my fellow dragon ball z warriors. Maca E'Q'Lib
I have a nitpick. No seriously this is such a nitpick but that you can ignore this because it's nothing to do with the video but I need to get this out on one of these videos about granola. Has no one ever heard of the hyuga? Like seriously I get it your a dragon ball RU-vidr but ugh.
