@@petanything Whenever I see trello I get so jealous! I've been doing research and hopefully getting one next year! Videos of gccs keep me satisfied for the moment.
The biggest thing to understand about these kinds of birds is that in the wild, they live in flocks. They don't live alone. If you are always gone, your bird will likely be stressed, and it could lead to behaviors like plucking. They want to be with you, because YOU are part of their flock. If you don't give your bird attention or you keep them in another room by themselves, then don't be surprised when they get very stressed out and loud calling out for you, because that's what birds do when they are away from their flock. Birds are not domesticated animals like dogs or cats.
My black capped conure is a big snuggler, too, but the down side of that is he is pretty needy at times. More demanding of time than my other birds. 100% agree about what you say about their interaction needs.
I just lost my lovebird he was my best bud im very stressed out about it. I always thought about getting a green cheek to be his buddy I may be getting one now to replacement that emptiness I have in my heart now.
Kiwi loves to be with me and snuggle! He is definitely very social and spoiled. I have always gotten 1 bird at a time so that they socialize with me and learn to talk !
I currently have a Yellow Sided GCC named Archie! She is the light of my life. I love her beyond words. She loves hanging out on my shoulder and goes crazy for neck scratches! She knows how to say "Peekaboo" and will give little happy hisses and beeps.
I wasn’t gonna get a green cheek but as soon as I saw a add on ksl for a lil green cheek named Tobias my heart was set. He’s very smart and cuddly and he’s loud but I wouldn’t trade him for the world
What is ksl cause I am looking for a bird I have a parrotlet but I'm looking for one that I can actually feel on me so I can tell if they fly official home all day so I have time to work with all my babies
Awh! Aren’t Green Cheek conures just the best? I’ve been doing my research for years. Me and my dad are planning to get a GCC after Christmas. I’m so excited! I’ve already planned what cage I’m getting! Love your videos! Keep ip the great work! ❤️
Aww. Thank's LPS Rustic Rose. I'm glad to hear that you've done the research. I bird is a big responsibility, as I'm sure you know. But as I said in the video, if you're already prepared to have a bird in your life, a GCC is a good one to get. I wish you all the best with your future bird. Trello was a Christmas bird. I bought him for the family on December 20, 2014. Well, I say I bought him for the family, but I actually bought him for me. We had lost our last budgie, and I wanted another bird, and the GCC had been at the top of my list for some time, because like you, I had done a lot of research on it, and it just seemed like the right bird for me.
One issue I have is that i'm military. I'm gone a lot. Thankfully, my little Peps is always spending time with my son and wife. I come home and she hops over to me fast as heck. They def love their families. Much love to all the good birbs.
They are exactly like cats and dogs but in bird form. They like hugs but they are really bipolar towards people like cats are. They are energetic and full of personality like dogs are. But they can fly. Haha. It's so much fun. My two tame ones are asleep on me right now. One of them had a scary accident this morning where he broke his ball and got it stuck on his head. It was scary and I almost threw up from fear. It's scary how attached you can get to them. I lost a GCC about a year ago at this point and I had only had her for about 6-8 weeks before she passed. I've had my two now for almost a year now as I got them both at the same time. One tip I have for GCCs is HAVE RASPBERRIES. They LOVE raspberries. All three GCC I have had loved raspberries and my brother's GCCs both love raspberries. It's a good thing to use as a treat.
@@williamumanzor2594 I started using chop because they wouldn't eat certain food (like they would pick out only raspberries or grapes specifically) and they LOVE it. You dont have to get a proper machine, just chop it up fine (does take hours as you need it smaller that bite sized parts so they can't pick and chose it). This helps so much if you can be bothered to do it (I personally gave up because I'd spend hours every couple of days making enough for like 20 birds) They try everything now though which is cool
thank you thank you thank you.. I've been so ready for a GCC and have done so much research but watching videos on them gives me more information from actual owners.. they've all been so negative towards the birds and seem to want to deface their species, really putting me down. but you are so enlightening and cheery; i appreciate this video so so much.
GCCs are probably the best bird out there. They are kind and loving but also boisterous and characteristic. They are ideal for someone who wants a challenge. They have to be watched 24/7 though cause they always manage to get injured or destroy stuff.
@@lil_yokyo5420 Yup. My conures were left for 8 hours a day because of school and tey are completely fine. As long as the GCC (s) have plenty of toys and things to do, it is perfectly fine.
Trello is still nippy, even at almost 6 years of age. However, I've worked with him long enough to be able to read him. It's not out of anger or aggression. It's kind of habitual, and I don't think he knows that it sometimes hurts. Usually, it's out of excitement, and he just doesn't realize that he's biting a little too hard. But more importantly, I've learned to work around it, instead of being afraid of it. I have a couple of daughters that are learning to read him as well. So he gets good socialization with different members of the family.
My green cheek conure is quite chaty but hes not loud when he talks. And he loves to sosilize, cudle and talk with my grandparents. And of course with the rest of my family. But most with me and my grandparents.
I've only ever had budgies for quite a long time. They're super cute and fun to watch, but I agree they're not the most affectionate birds for handling which is probably what most people want. If I were to get a different bird I'd want one that would enjoy hanging out with me while I'm working and around the house. Of course I'm doing all the research I can to make the best informed decision before actually getting one.
And I commend you for doing your research. I’ve seen budgies with personalities beyond their species, so to speak. But the ones that I had, other than stepping up, they didn’t give much interaction.
@@petanything in my experience it really matters how they were raised. Hand raised babies or babies that grew up nearer to humans of course are much easier to tame than the mass produced farm raised birds. I've had both and the farm raised never really tame as well and require much more work to get them used to humans. This is probably true for most birds I can imagine.
Green cheeks are wonderful parrot. I like to say my green cheek has the personality of a macaw! My Chilie can be quite loud! He wants everyone to know he’s there. My green cheek loves attention!
I agree with you 50-50% .We bougth two Greencheeks seven mounth´s ago from different home.... The male Deco is about 2-year´s old And Kimi is 4-1/2...Kimi is realy bonding with people and Deco is avoiding us if there is no food for him. I don´t know how the previus owner treated him....but it seems that he is afraid of "hands"... He have been a little bit braver but I feel so sorry for him.He have beatyful feathers and Kimi pick her feathers so she is ugly.....but she is as I say.....more friendly to us. I don´t think that she have parasites......She just wan´t to be with us 24/7 on our shoulders :-)
2:05 Is this trilling that he's doing at that time usually what you hear? I'm looking to get one and that kind of sound is quite pleasant but I'm wondering if you mean that he screams a lot.
I just purchased a GCC , named him buddy . A sweety. I have had him /her? for 2 weeks now, scwalks at other birds I have its cage near the window) ( likes walking on the sill) , likes being petted on the neck and kissed on the beek but is somewhat afraid of my hand , it will not walk onto it and will back away. Hoping that will change in time. Looking for any helpful tips....Thank U.
I'm not really an expert, but I would first try to get the bird to associate your hands with treats. Hand him/her a few treats, and then hold one in one hand in such a way that he/she has to step up on your other hand to get to it. During this time, use the words, "Step up." That's how I trained my GCC, and consequently, his first words were "Step up."
I have a green CHEEKED conure and his name is Kiki the girls name is kiwi but she sadly passed away in 2019 Nov 23 they are both very sassy birds and Kiki likes the song by drake in my feelings and he is very energetic kiwis is just a very chill bird but when you do something wrong the first second you look back the next she is there she is a very fast runner hope you read this and thank you oh ya and she bites hard.
I never wanted a bird but the wife and kids got one. But I love this little fella, very entertaining and also demanding of personal interaction. Our cat Tom is the same age and sits on top of the cage playing with this bird. The 2 of them are hilarious, although Tom usually comes off second best. Love it when he lies on his back playing with his ball with a bell inside. Gets quite psychotic with this toy 😂
LOL. Yeah, Trello for some reason is afraid of most toys. It didn't used to be that way, but developed over time somehow. He still likes his hanging bells, though, and he goes nuts with them.
I just got my green cheek. She is identical to yours in this video. She is super sweet. But super young. What's the best advice for a new female conure?
I have a green cheek conure who is wonderful. He usually comes on my finger when I'm taking him out of the cage. Since yesterday when I try to take him out he bites and won't come on my finger. I dont understand why he's doing this. Do you know why?
Trellis? I think you mean Trello. Friggin' auto-correct... For anyone paying attention to the comments, Amy is my oldest daughter. So she knows how loud Trello can be, even if he usually seems pretty quiet in our videos.
@@carolhartley4448 I think it depends on their environment and how we interact with them. We have 9 kids, and Trello lives in an active part of the house. So during the day, he sees a lot o action, and gets a lot of interaction. When he doesn't get a lot of attention, he tends to get very squeaky and loud.
They ain't got nothing on a sun conure, nanday or any of the aratinga, but they their moments. And every bird is different. Their such complex fascinating creatures.
Hi Mike, as you know I have one " Jake" he is pinapple colored. He turned 1 yrs. Old sept. 10th, 2019. I forget how old or should I say what age is Trello? BTW I totally agree about how fun and interactive they are!Lol. Jake is a handful and I love every second of his silly demeanor! So much of the "big package" in a s/med. Size parrot! Just downright fun to have in our home! Love your vids. Keep it up, great job! And Thanx BTW , I never meant that households with children in should not have parrots, they should! My son is a bit older but he has downes syndrome so as ya can see I have Jake and have had a cockatoo long time ago. I am just a child, parrot, ect. Person👍☺☺
Hi Carol, Trello is 5 1/2 years old. We got him December 20, 2014, so we've had him for 5 years. He was hatched on July 17, 2014, so he was still very young when we brought him home.
My neighbor had her green cheek on her back porch during the summer. It broke my heart. I visited the bird a few times, and it was obvious that the bird was in need of affection. I have had birds in the past, and I am aware of what it means to be a bird owner with that being said dang they are very affectionate. Also, quite honestly they are destructive. At least this one is likes to chew on all the wood frames around the doors. I do have him fully flighted, and he is a funny, entertaining bundle of feathers. Does anybody want him. 😅. Not kidding.
Hi I would like to know conure behavior under one year ..my bird is 6 month old some times she is Soo moody she bites and attack some times she is so adorable.
there are tradeoffs to everything like louder birds tend to be better talkers so if you care about a parrot being a good talker than the louder the bird generally the better talkers they will be.
Good question. Typically, when I get any bird, the first thing I like to do is train them to step up. This can take time and patience, as your bird first needs to get used to human hands and know that they are a good thing. Now understand that I am not a parrot trainer. What I do may or may not be the best way. But first, I start by seeing if I can hand my bird treats. Get it to trust my hand, and associate my hand's presence with treats. Once I get to that point, I hold a treat with one hand just out of reach, so that the bird has to step up on my other hand to get it. Throughout this training process, I'm using the words "step up," which consequently were my green cheek conure's first words. This also can take a lot of time and patience. Once you get this mastered, training for other things will become easier.
Just a question. I’m getting a pet GCC soon, and I’ve been doing lots of research and spent my time on studying them for a long time. But one thing I was never able to figure out was how long it takes to tame GCCs, I would be interested if anyone would share how long it took their birds (hand feed) to feel comfortable with you. Thanks!
Thanks for the question. It really depends on the bird. Just like every human is different, every bird is different. Even within the same species, every bird will have a different personality. My best advice is to not try to force yourself on your new bird from day one. Bring it home and let it take in its new environment. Let it see you feeding it and giving it water over the first few days before trying to really interact with it. Watch the bird's body language. As the bird really starts to explore its surroundings, that's a good indication that you can start with little things like sitting next to your bird and talking to it. Try giving treats, but be careful. Move at a slow pace. If the bird recoils, back off and wait. If the bird shows signs of aggression, try giving with a spoon for a while. Keep trying little interactions like this before trying to train to step up. Feel free to take my advice with a grain of salt, as I am not a professional bird trainer. I just simply have had a number of birds. I admit that I still make mistakes with them. Just remember that every interaction with a parrot is a training session. There are lots of resources both in books and online that can go into depth on training your bird. Good luck.
ItsAqi I also recommend you to get a bird from a breeder, especially gcc. Also, try to get a younger conure but not a baby! They adapt easily and are the best type to get.
I’ve had my girl for two years now she’s approximately 4 years old adopted her December 29th 2017 I don’t know what I’d do without her her original name was Turk but named her Luna she talks a lot for a green cheek she talks more than my brothers Quaker and my dads Amazon she goes everywhere with us when we go on vacation she goes with us😂
I got a green cheek conure yesterday and he is 3 months old. He got mixed up with us within 24 hours and loves us. The bad thing is his nibbling habit. He keeps on nibbling our fingers and neck. How can I stop him from nibbling because he don’t leave the skin when bite?
Trello actually does the same thing. He's almost 6 years old now, and I have not been able to break him of the nibbling. Instead, I've just learned to work around it. There are times when nibbling turns to biting, not because of aggression, but because Trello just gets overly excited sometimes. I've learned to watch his body language to look for telltale signs of being so excited that he's gonna bite, and I have learned to wait until he's more calm. If anyone seeing this has any suggestions, we would love to hear about them.
I just recently got a sun conure and he is the greatest thing ever. I was thinking the same when i got my conure, cause i have previously owned a sun conure and two cockatiels. But my sun is just so playful and agfectionate.
@@saifulalam4108 My advice to first time bird owner is to train your bird. The basics are step up, step down, come to you when called, flying to a perch you point to, and going into his cage when asked. Training is fun for you and the bird, strengthens the bond between you and will save you problems down the road. Green cheeks are known for being easy, and eager, to train and that has been my experience.
What happened to your other one? And you should get another, every individual bird is going to have a different personality, but as long as you have time to spend/bond with the new one, theses green cheeks are all very silly and like to goof around! Lol I think you'll be happy you did get another one, mine is pinapple colored and he is just a joy to be around! Let me know what you decide to do! Jake is one year and 5 months old and just thriving with happiness! I've had him since he was 3 months old, learned alot from my little guy, he talks alot, and I mean clear sentences, took him a bit but know he'll say everything we say to or around him, crazy Jake! Lol years ago I had a goffin cockatoo, maybe Im lucky but he was very well behaved, I had rescued him, but bought my green cheek.
Honestly, Trello is so jumpy, he doesn’t sleep either, at least during the day. But he’s isolated in a dimly lit room at night with his cage locked, and then he sleeps.
My conure is the loudest family member I have... he is about 6 or 8 months... the girl we had getting him out of the cage at the pet store called him a punk.... he definately has a personality on him.
It takes time, patience, and a lot of work. Start out slow, just being close to your bird. Then gradually offer treats with your hand in front of the treat for the bird to step up. If the bird puts one foot on your hand, give it a treat. Let it retreat back to its perch if it wants to. Keep doing little things like this until your bird steps onto your hand and stays. Keep taking baby steps to slowly make your bird trust you.
They are quite nippy though as babies my daughter bought one he is young probably about four or five months I’m trying to get him to stop nipping he gets on me and really likes me but he starts to nip everywhere sometimes he’ll do it and sometimes he want
Are there personality differences between male and female green cheeks? Which are friendlier or less aggressive? I’ve also got two kids and although I want a caique really bad I’m being told that maybe a green cheek would be better for the family but trying to figure out the perfect type to chance it on with our needs
There are differences between one bird and another, regardless of gender. Just like every person is different, every bird is different. You may have one male that's aggressive, and another male that is tame. It really just depends on the bird's personality. And a kid's reaction to a bird depends on the kid. I have 9 kids. Some of them keep their distance from the bird, while others play with him often. I have a 4-year-old son that loves to hold him, while my 12-year-old son would rather not for fear of getting bitten. But education is key. Even my kids that prefer not to handle Trello at least know how to deal with him if they have to.
I may get a gcc within the next 2-3 weeks. I’d like to know more about them. Like for example, I bought a cockatiel a good 6 months ago and when I first got him he was a little prick lol. But I eventually got some sort of bond goin with him and he’s not as much of a pain but he’s still a brat lol. I’d like to know if I got a gcc wether it would act in a similar manner to my cockatiel that I bought? Or would it be nicer and easier to tame?
Hard to say, really. You can't predict the personality of a parrot any easier than you can predict the personality of a child. Every bird will be different, even among the same species. Trello was very gentle when we first got him, and then weeks later he became somewhat aggressive until I figured out how to handle him and communicate with him. Even still, he can be aggressive if one doesn't understand how to deal with him. Yet I've seen other green cheeks that remain very tame.
You should definitely introduce your bird to the pet sitter first and let them get comfortable with each other if you haven't already. The pet sitter should be able to handle your bird with no problems. I would not recommend removing your bird from your home while on vacation into a brand new environment as this could stress them out and scare them, they may feel like they've been abandoned and fall into a depression. Familiarity is your bird's best friend, they will feel more secure in your own home and with people they already know. This will make the separation easier.
All the things you mentioned are the reasons why I want a conure. I got 2 budgies. They r the cutest but they only interact with one another and don't care much about the outside world. I really need a cuddly pet with who my son who is a teen and I can intetact. There is conure for sale for a $1000 who just arrived here in Hawaii. I m ready to pay that price to get one honestly. It is handfed and at the store behind the wondow they were rolling over and I could tell they wanted me to pet them. I just hope that it can get alomg with my 2 budgied. One of thd budgie is a youngstet like 3 months old only. This is my only worry. Of course they ll be in separate cage. Do u think it is a good idea the put the cage close to the other so they can get familiar?
Trello is male. With most parrots, there aren’t really any distinguishing features between male and female. You usually have to get them DNA tested by a vet to find out the gender. That’s what we did with Trello.
I'm definitely a conure person. I love their playful personality. And yeah, it's great that they love to cuddle, but there is a draw back to this. If you have a gcc and it will cuddle with you a lot, and this feels like an amazing little slice of heaven with their feathers all fluffed up,oh I just melt;but here's the catch:You are gonna need to limit the cuddling to minimum of some sort,bc it can lead to the bird thinking you're communicating that you're it's mate and if you love on your conure too much that's what can happen and,the bird will be not be self sufficient enough. You want him to be able to chill on his own and play his toys etc..and not ALWAYS calling for you. Esp when you're not there, you want him to be ok with his toys.
This is my fear. How do you get them to be more independent ? I plan on making my bird an indoor park/playground which will be the entire room. I’m planning it now. I’m dedicating two bedrooms, one for his cage and the other room is a playroom. I want him to be able to play when I’m not home. I have a Budgie too. My goal is to have 2 of each. Help...!
@@redgeminiarts3674 the toys you get really make difference. You want to make sure they are bird safe of coarse, but instead of the acrylic toys, that your conure will just get bored with very quickly, anyways, get them toys they can be shredding. Get them foraging toys, where they can find treats. Or make them foraging toys. Parrot Playhouse and Birdtricks right here on YT have some excellent ideas. And instead of loving on your birds too much, interact with them by training them to do tricks and different types of flights. Show you love in that way. An entire room is an EXCELLENT thing to do for your birds,so it sounds like you're off to an excellent start! Good luck.
I am thinking of getting a gcc but its 600 dollars total, is it worth it? I think this bird will make me happy and I will love to have it I just cant decide.
Worth it? I can't say. I got Trello at Petco. He was priced at $350. I talked them down to $300. $600 seems a little excessive. However, that might be the norm based on your location.
It's really hard to say. Green cheeks are considered to be the quieter conure. However, Trello proves to me that that is not always the case. It also depends on how cool your neighbors are. If I were your neighbor, I would be totally cool with it. If the neighbors that I actually have next to my house were your neighbors, they would come and harass you daily because of any small peep that they hear from your bird. So it's really hard to give a good answer to your question. You might want to talk to your neighbors to see how they feel.
My green cheek conure. Makes alarm sounds ..very demanding...if your eating and you dont give her food she yells and shakes head yes .mine has issues since my daughter moved out in feb ..
I do keep his wings clipped a little in the warmer months for his own safety. When it's warm, we like to run the ceiling fans. He can still fly a little. It's just more difficult for him to gain altitude. In the winter, I let them grow, since we don't use the fans.
Please help... I have 6 month green cheek (maybe)... I get it from bird farmer... It has no ring on foot... It scared me but also is guiet... You think the at days be friendly with me... Hello from Greece🇬🇷
Just be patient with your bird. Do little things like offer treats. If the bird won't take the treat from your hand, place the treat somewhere easy to get to, where the bird sees you place it. Keep doing this little by little until the bird is more comfortable approaching your treat-filled hand. It may take a while to gain your bird's trust.
Could be hormones or bird puberty? Some bird are just attention seekers tho and you might have one of those birds (that’s not a bad thing, they are still great but very demanding) you could always try a little discipline (postitive reenforcement no aggression or harshly punishing) and training
How do chap. I’m looking at possibly getting a Green Cheek but I work 12 hour days 4 on 4 off. If I was to make time in the morning and then again in the evening would this be ok do you think? Obviously when I’m not working the bird will have a lot more attention from me. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Apart from Trello, my green cheek conure, I have also had parakeets and an African grey. I would say that the grey was the worst for my wife's allergies. Trello doesn't seem to bother her as much.
@@petanything only a week, but i didn.t hear any kind of sound , no "cries", nothing at all....he is a baby , don.t know if its because of that...getting kind of worried...thanks for answering.
Tried research on the internet, if there is a problem when a bird doesn.t make any kind of sound..but can.t find no explanation....since start of day until bedtime, no sound ...nothing at night either...i wonder if he has vocal cords...could it be it? Thanks
@@christiesilva6918 if he’s a baby, and in a new environment, then I would expect this behavior. As he grows, and gets more used to his environment, things may change. Being a new bird, I would also take him to a vet for a checkup. This will help you establish a relationship with a vet for your bird, and you can have your bird DNA tested to find out the gender for sure.
I just made an entire powerpoint on why I should get a green cheeked conure I spent 2 days on it btw and my parents are saying that I cant have any more after what happened to my hamsters. they both lived long healthy lives and one lived until it was nearly 3. so now im watching videos of them to make them pity me. so far it hasn't worked.
Yo I got a question. So I love all birds, especially these guys and I have trying to get a bird for years but my family travels a good bunch, especially during the summer. It’s not a lot like all the time, we have people watch our dog so that helps but I was wondering how you travel with bird?
That's a good question. With such a large family, we don't travel very often. But when we have gone on vacations, we've had someone come to our house twice a day to take care of our animals. If it's someone new, we have them come before we leave to meet Trello. We show them where the treats are and give them some training. We would prefer to have someone with bird experience come, but such people are hard to find. But if you're at a place in your life where everyone is gone from the home often and for days on end, now may not be a good time for you to get a bird. Birds need stability in their home. Most birds, by nature, are not solo artists. They need their flock. And for pet birds, their flock is their people. So if you are not able to give a bird that right now, then I would recommend that you wait until you can before getting one. This is both best for the bird, and for you, since a bird that is kept happy is less likely to be aggressive and need to be rehomed, causing more trauma for the bird and hardship for the owner.
If you've done the research, great. Also make sure that your home is conducive to providing for a bird's social well-being. Make sure that everyone in the home is ready for the bird. The bird will need lots of interaction and play time once it gets acclimated to its new home.
I'm sorry, I actually don't know. There was an older gentleman in my area a few years ago that had a lot of birds, and he had a couple of these cages brand new in box for $70 a piece. So I bought one from him. But I'm not sure of the brand.
I think , not positive, but Trello's cage looks like a "zenstyle 61' cage" , hope that helps but even if i am right models change from year to year. But it looks kinda like what i think?🤔
When I bought Trello, he was $300, and that was after I talked them down on the price. Pineapples aren't usually any more expensive than the fancy green cheeks. Now turquoise green cheeks, those can tend to be pricey, just because you don't see them as often.
I've said it many times in other videos, and other comments. A bird's affection cannot be determined by its species. Every bird is different, just as every person is different, even in the same species. My advice would be to do your research on both, and decide based on your own education which one will suit you better. Before making a decision on which bird to get, make sure that you are prepared with everything that you need to take care of a bird. Make sure that you have an environment that will be good for the bird's physical and mental well-being. Make sure that the bird will be mentally stimulated with toys and lots of interaction from people that live in the home. The truth is that either bird could be just as good as the other, but it's all up to you.
@@petanything thank you. I bought a GCC before I researched (I saw him and instantly fell for him-ugh!) and I have the ability to return him to the store and give him a chance to be bought by someone who has the time to devote to him but it is so hard and I don’t know if I can do it! I’ve put it off until the very last day and I’m so sad but my life is hectic and ever-changing. My other pets are used to it (dog, cat, canary) but the more I research the more I think I’m being selfish by keeping him. I interact with him every day when I change out his food and water and he is slowly developing trust for me and I for him, but I really only spend about an hour a day (sometimes less) holding him and he doesn’t snuggle yet. He’s a very cautious bird but seems happy and content otherwise. I just wonder if he’ll get ruined if he starts to want more attention but I can’t give him more than what I give him now…I also don’t want to unnecessarily traumatize us both by returning him and he would be just fine with me..! He’s 5 months old and I’ve had him for a month. He doesn’t scream when I’m gone (I have a camera set up) and he has let me pet his head a couple of times and has given me kisses through the cage bars a few times. He knows “step up” and “step back.” He eats constantly and seems fine… but I have no parrot experience at all except for what I have now. Thanks:)
@@freenbnme wow. I commend you for your consideration for your bird. It sounds like if you already have a bond with him, it would be hard on both of you to take him back. As he’s with you longer and starts to trust you more, you might just find other ways of letting him be with you, like letting him sit on your shoulder while you watch tv or while you do chores around the house (chores that are safe for a bird to be around, of course). Couple that with the time you spend training him, and I think you’ll be fine. Just make sure he has ways to entertain himself while you’re away.
@@petanything I appreciate your input because I have been just beside myself. I’ve had my canary and dog for 5 years (both since babies) and my cat for nearly 11 (also a baby when I found him) and knowing their lives are only expected to last another 5-15 years is a little heartbreaking too but my point is that we’ve all been fine and even happy (for the most part). So maybe Tuki will be fine too. My other fear is what if someone buys him and then he really does suffer. He’s in a big cage and has lots of toys that I don’t mind swapping out regularly. This morning he stepped up without a treat in my hand and I took him away from the cage (the first time I did this was yesterday) and he let me pet his head without a problem or a treat blocking his beak this morning. I just have to be consistent I think. I’m so excited about him! :D
Hi Holly, Green cheeks are capable of talking, however not all do. Within any species, there are talkers and non-talkers. Trello, my little green cheek, talks a lot. Check out some of my other videos to hear him talk.
GCCs are smaller birds, and therefore don't require the same amount of cage as larger birds. The cage that I have for Trello is actually for a much larger bird. I just happened to get a good deal on it. But your GCC still needs plenty of space to climb and also to spread its wings. So the larger you can go, the better.
@@petanything thanks! on a lot of cages i see online, they’re not very wide. would it be ok to get a cage that’s around 24 inches wide? i guess what i’m trying to say is, what’s the wingspan of a gcc?
