As a NSW supporter the one thing I’m confident about is that this Blues team won’t capitulate at Suncorp like so many have before. We may lose because QLD play better on the day, but it won’t be through a lack of spirit, effort etc.
NSW wins ONE match, with massive help from the refs, and think they are world beaters....NSW play like they are immune from penalty...game 2 was full of high shots from NSW...QLD will not back down in game 3..it could get ugly.
I hope Gus is right, and NSW get Origin. The thing is, we have had the wrong coaches for this challenge (sorry Laurie and Freddie, you you were not the best for the siege mentality). Madge will have them prepared, no guarantee, but I'm sure NSW won't throw in the towel.
Just that "grounding" that freddy did said it all about his coaching style. Way too layed back of an approach to "war" on the paddock. Obviously he was more than that, but Madge has that beast in him. He instilled alot of confidence in me with the Matty johns interview. He's here to make a mark. Up the blues!
When Madge held his first press conference after being announced as NSW coach, I liked what I heard from him: passion and professionalism in equal measure, and it reflected in the Blues this series. Hope he's here for a while yet...
12:54 a lot of putting Lockyer at 5/8 was Brisbane didn’t really have a playmaker at all. Our halves in 03 were Ben ikin who retired. Shaun berrigan who isn’t a half or 5/8 Scott Prince who had gone to the tigers and Brett Seymour who hadn’t really dominated like they hoped. Also they had Karmichael hunt on the books so they had 2 origin level fullbacks and no 5/8s.
Joe Suaali should get a huge apology from the NRL for his punishment for his shoulder to head shot on Walsh, given that there were at least two shoulder to heads in game 2, but not even a sin-bin. Jordan Rapana was sent to the bin only a few days before Origin 2 but Mitchell does it during that game and he didn’t walk either. The inconsistency in reffing in game 2 is so on the nose it’s hard to believe.😮
Seems to me that if NSW can rattle, not the biggest QLD strike weapons, but the two modern QLD greats - DCE and Hunt - then they can win. Otherwise, one or both of them can make something happen and get QLD over the line. I don't know the smallest fraction about football that Gus does (or maybe some of you do), but that would be my focus were I Madge.
Ive always thought that NSW players quietly approached SOO as a business not necessarily emotion like QLD. At the end, deep down, NSW knows that they still get paid the same Win or Lose. Just being there is good enough. Most (nsw)of them won't push through an injury because its not worth it. Thurston would even with a banged up shoulder. They value Grand Finals more and are focused more on getting that next big contract with another team or an extention with their current teams.Long term financial security is important and appearing in Grand Finals, quarter and semis consistently gives them those type of opportunities.Just look how emotional they get when they win a GFinal comparing to a SOO win. Gus said at 23:00 - 24 "I'm sure Nathan Cleary would play if it were a GF". Just saying
This is a great point. I suspect that NSW players would be acutely aware that Origin is a business. Only thing is long term financial security is not a motivating factor in this case IMO. Plenty of QLD Origin 'legends' who were/are average at club level at clubs who go nowhere year after year. I wonder how many queenslanders actually stop to wonder why that is. To be fair I probably wouldn't if I were them.
I agree with this attitude. At the end of the day Grand finals are more important then SOO. Ask any NRL player if they could choose between winning an NRL GF or SOO they would always choose NRL Grand Final. As footy fans we spend most of the year watching our club play while SOO is only three games a year. I was at the 2023 GF, and this year, SOO at the MCG. As a blues fan, I would be happy to see them win the series, but that doesn't come close to seeing my club winning a GF.
That's is 100 percent truth..I have been following SOO since 1980.. Blues are not Emotional enough all this year's but their game 2 has hurt many past players, supporters, n all because they got their own medicine back after very Long time..Blues will win now ..Maroons will wanna repay n spoil their game plan..
@clutch7548 You mean back when they had more people of actual origin than the game sold as Origin. A system still used in all sports today, all over the world, including RL in Au. History don't care about your feelings or excuses. LOL
I'm a blues fan but have no idea what the 21 year record refers to lol NSW have never been insanely dominant when you look at our number of wins per series since 1980
Agree with Gus. Chooks are the only team that could make the GF. Problem is they cannot match Storm or Panthers and you must go through 1 of them to make the GF. Broncos full squad can make it but need to finish 5 or 6th. Storm v Panthers GF.
Storm and Panfers rarely beat themselves......you have to beat them......both teams will likely make the top 2......provided no more injuries occur (especially for the Storm). Add on to that, you have to play them, at their home ground........Who can beat Panthers and/or Storm at their home ground? Especially come finals.
I have always hated the Bulldogs, but I admired & respected Robbo for his toughness & determination Roaches have no chance. Threepeat for the Toads. NSW can lose the game in the first 20mins. Qld usually wins in the last 20mins I think Sharks will drop out of the 4 & Cowpokes will go to 5th. If you took away byes & just concentrated on wins, Cowpokes would be icurrently in 5th
No gilbert no fledger and tino is massive. Queensland will be lucky to hold them out. Especially Tino, he will cancel out payne hass they will go at eachother all night, fledger would not take a backward step against martin and co. Go qld though
7 of the 8 finalist were eventually all done for drugs. Except 1 man Calvin Smith. He is the true winner of the gold. The rest were cheats inc Carl Lewis.
Plus, the Cowboys went from 30 degrees to play in 4 degrees in Canberra and still won easily. They've been thrown some curve balls and seem to be hitting homers. Still won't win the comp, though 😂😂😂😂
