I’m actually surprised the games one biome is less repetitive than I thought it would be. I was worried before I played it, but found it to not be an issue for me. There’s enough there to keep it visually interesting, and the lighting when the time of day changes ids beautiful. And I know other biomes will come down the line in future campaign DLC, so that’s not an issue.
After Halo 5’s lackluster story, this is making me excited for the next 10 years of Halo. Halo Wars 2 was a return to form in terms of art style, and introducing a new threat, The Banished and it’s Warmaster, Atriox. But, Halo Infinite was a serious course correction that was 6 years in the making. I look forward to facing The Banished this Wednesday and uncover the mysteries of Zeta Halo. The building blocks are set for the next 10 years, and I can’t wait to see what 343 has in store for Halo’s future. The kings of FPSs, Doom, and now Halo, have returned.
I don't care about Co Op. I find it pretty useless (mostly because I play solo) and yeah I agree assassinations should be there for stealth, but I find Halo to be more fun going in guns blazing
Ya know I gotta really respect 343 for giving out so many review copies. I've been watching reviews all morning and greatly appreciate the wide variety opinions/takes. For the first time in ages I feel like I actually have an informed purchasing choice lol no smoke and mirrors nonsense other devs try to pull. As always, fantastic video. Keep up the good work my dude!
The story is what most important to me, so I'm really happy to hear a real fan is more than pleased. Wasn't sure they'd be able to bring it all together, but I'm glad to hear my fears were largely unfounded. We needed a great one after five, and it sounds like they got it done.
I watched like 15 reviews, and if you have invested a lot of time into the lore it seems that people love it, meanwhile if you are kinda new the story could seem a bit hit or miss. The gameplay is godlike but I can see that point of view. This seem like the halo that will unite the playerbase.
I have so far plugged 50+ hours into the game, and just finished the Campaign on Heroic this morning, and all I can say is wow. I was not expecting the story to be this good, and I honestly agree with the score of 8.5 out of 10. I wouldn't say I like the story as it is, more than the original trilogy. I'm not sure if it's just nostalgia, or because the original trilogy games were honestly just a solid 9 or higher for me. But this is easily in the top 5, possibly top 4 best for me in terms of story and character development in the series. As of now, it's tied with Halo Reach for me in terms of story. But with the (obvious) story DLC coming out in the future, I am very excited to see where the plot goes, especially with the whole plotline of new "The Endless" foes that we will have to battle! 343 definitley nailed it on the head with this one, and it is easily (in my opinion) better than Halo 4 and 5 put together! I actually stood up and applauded at the end of Campaign, as I was genuinely impressed by the story, and that amazing cliffhanger we were given (Won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet). Lastly, holy crap, I was not expecting the Campaign to be about 12+ hours long (I did die well over two dozen times on Heroic before beating it however).
Ask yourself this, why does every Halo have to have multiple biomes? Isn't this Halo the one that got made smaller because of damage? So why not believe those items were ejected when the ring size was reduced leaving only the current biome? Perhaps those Biomes will show up within the next ten years. Surely this Halo game isn't going to just be on this particular halo for the next ten years? On a funnier note. I saw a grunt whack someone who got too close to it the other day and it fussed at Chief while it was doing it. It actually hit him LOL. It was hilarious.
Honestly Halo Infinite (if succesful) will probably be the start of a new trilogy. New biomes will probably show up in DLC or (more likely) new Halo games. This games development cycle wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but they've shown they *can* make a modern Halo game that feels both new *and* classic at the same time. This is huge, because both oldheads and yungins seem to dig this Halo style.
Near master piece" lmfao. It's a step in the right direction and nothing more. Have videogames gotten so bad in the last several years that expectations have been lowered so much that we think moderate to okay games are not just good but great? I hope to god that's not the case because that's why developers think they can get away with releasing subpar or even incomplete products. They're complete dominating the player base and gamers. Gamers need to out their foot down and speak up. I remember the good old days of a videogame not only being good or even really good but actually being a complete and finished game with lots of hype. Gaming is dying and the mainstream developers are killing it. Only good thing to come from this is how good and popular Indie Games have become but even that has a problem because some indie developers are pricing their products way to high or even at mainstream prices.
Good video..I waited for co op before playing.I started yesterday and am thoroughly enjoying it..amazing combat..maybe the best I've ever felt in a game
I love this game but also noticed frame rate drops when covering ground. Maybe they will fix that in a patch. Playing on series x and it looks amazing. I’m playing on legendary. So I can earn the ending.
I’m not super far along but I will say there are a few tweaks I wish they made. First the world feels empty. I thought it would be full of random battles between UNSC and banished. By halo going open world people are going to expect Far Cry, fallout, Destiny etc….. Second is saving UNSC marines I thought this would be more random and wouldn’t be just a place to go on the map. Or if it was they would be calling in reinforcements because they are trying to take back or hold key area’s. So for example you come across random Marines that are not on the map fighting and you help them and you also have times when they call for help and a marker is placed. Or rescue missions where a pelican is shot down overhead and you try and rescue the survivors. Fobs should have been bigger and you would need to help build them up and once you get to a certain point then one of the bigger set pieces unlocks and you can have a big assault of that set peace (prison, mining, tower etc). I would have also made it so the banished tried to take it back. The next thing would be holding key installations just like the fob system. So a bridge for instance. If you can a bridge you will start to see a better supply stream of assets but if the banished take it back those are cut off. Same with things like AA emplacements. If you knock those out or take them over you have air support or can call in assets in that area but again the banished can take it back. Quick travel should have been the pelican picking you up and flying you in real time. I thought this would be a mix of Halo Wars and Halo. It’s a great game so far just feels like things are missing. It seems like all the fighting happened while you where drifting in space. If Halo wants to be an open world game there has to be more to do especially after the games story is over. As for DLC I really hope we get to play as Marines/ODST and other Spartans those stories are great.
seems it's lacking variety and the story isn't going to get a satisfactory end. Gonna lower my expectations but still very excited to play, it does look really fun. Just a shame after all these years we can't wrap up some story lines from Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2.
@@aono335 yeah but it's lame af. Essentially retcons 2 whole games with one or two lines. So cortana the super AI just suddenly became stupid and fell for a bait and switch? It was so sudden and jarring they even repeated it multiple times The banished are just a reskinned covenant essentially. They don't feel like a bigger threat than the forerunners were. It kinda stinks of disney trilogy level bad writing if I'm being honest.
@@manz7860 She was trapped by her copy aka the weapon and then she got blindsided by Atriox. She wasnt a space hitler to begin with instead she was following the forerunner's version of benevolant Dictator who wants to advance life as forerunners did a milennia ago. Atriox and banished are only similar to covenant in that they both want to secure the rings. But Atriox and his banished dont believe in the great journey or some kind of salvation by firing the rings which covenant beieved to be holy instruments of gods. Atriox knows that the forerunners werent gods and he wants that power for himself. I imagine being mistreated and his people being slaves to prophets made him appreciate the power associated with controlling forerunner tech. Banished are scrapping for power and supremacy. Thats their end goal. They are nothing like the covenant.
LMFAO!! I knew this would be one of the better fanboy uploads in recent memory, when it started off with "In this day & age, its hard to". LMFAO x2!! Comedy gold bro, comedy gold.
Switching between grenades and equipment is so annoying. There needs to be an option in the settings so it can be more like classic Halo. Press left/right on the D-pad to switch to the next grenade. Press up/down on the D-pad to switch to the next piece of equipment. The current system can be learned and mastered, but for casual players like myself we need something simpler.
@@neildeeley4177 they really don’t need a dedicated button, and it isn’t nonsense, throughout the campaign I was switching between dropshield then thruster to evade and grapple to gain high ground constantly and fast with ease… I feel sorry for you if simple multitasking is difficult for you my friend. But personally I was very happy with the control scheme.
@@neildeeley4177 plus you really aren’t taking into account the current control schemes and how this equipment has to work with them, I play with Legacy controls, each and every button is in use, so unless you can explain how a dedicated button for each equipment would work with that and better than what they come up with, then stop complaining.
Can't fault that breakdown, I don't know what I'll be doing when coop comes out, I might be too bored to replay thru halo by then, I hope they support the 💩out of this game with dlc and story content, not just multiplayer either, flesh out the story and maybe use it as a hub like mcc. 8.5 is harsh but ur right mission select (loved playing assault on the control room in CE) is needed and adding coop in may is mental hopefully there will be loads of content to keep us going till then but apart from the battle pass, there's no content/season pass, so I'm not holding my breath at the moment
I dont think its fair to compare Infiinite to games like red dead for its open world because 343 specifically said it was semi-open world; their focus was on large playable environments. A fair comparison would be to the tomb raider games where you'd realise how off rails Infinite is.
God you people are so easy to please. You have all set the bar so low these days. This game is garbage unfinished boring story and full of more bugs than Joe's apartment. 70+ hours and completed campaign. Used to be that server problems and game crashes would effect a score review but clearly not anymore.
I've only had a small taste of multiplayer, but the best way I can put it is, it just seems like an unfinished early build. But what's good about it is, a great foundation is there. As long as they stay true to the universe and the fans, it's guaranteed to grow into something truly special..
definitely a fair rating for a game that is only costing me 15 dollars (thank the lord for gamepass) I am giving it a lot of passes for its minor flaws, flaws that can be fixed in half a year if 343 keeps at it.
Boring story but thats fine for a set up/ending as they have kind of ignored 5 and started again. DULL story levels, how many boring flat lifeless installation corridors do we need to walk down!? its nearly EVERY mission. No levels involving marines fighting back or the UNSC fighting the banished at all, the scorpion approach was something thats expected and shouldnt be a highlight. Side missions were lazy and generic, no story to them or real reward. They didnt affect the game or the world in anyway at all. Blowing up fuel or vehicle bases didnt give them less vehicles or weapons. The marines in trouble being highlighted took away the feeling it was an open world, exploring it and the idea that Marines were still holding out, it just put them on a map for you to go too. Littering the map with collectables for MP is just straight padding the length out. a REAL open world game would have quests or missions that dont affect the main story, but add to it or at least world build. Have missions helping Marines counter attack or ANYTHING interesting? The Spartan Killer....they went on and on and on about was just a boss at the end of the game, we didnt see him or hear him or have any interaction during the game to make him feel like a threat. The thruster or the hook should be a dedicated button, on console anyway, the idea you cant quickly select the thruster and the hook is idiotic when the game is trying to have more mobility. You cant hook and then change to thrust to change back to hook again quickly using the D pad, dont copy Doom Eternal and then do a WORSE job. The COMICAL amount of explosive fuel barrels around, who designed this!? The ammo crates just refilling your guns, human guns too, looked stupid and took you out of the world they are trying to build. I feel theres a very good template here for the next game, but this one was just disappointing and felt low effort. I understand they scrapped everything or most of the game with the delay but the blueprint is there but the open world was SO basic and dull. No mission replay and NO CO OP??!! IGN 9 out of 10 my ass
Yes, like I finish the story like an hour ago, and it was SOOO disappointing, a lot of questions. A lot of side characters that I don’t care. Like, I think if the levels weren’t that long this campaign would be more short than five. Like I don’t know what halo youtubers are talking about. “NEAR MASTERPIECE???”, “It Blew my mind”. Like fuck that shit. I don’t know if they are very bias or the shilling the shit out of this game. But is not a masterpiece. Is very mediocre. I think Joseph Staten when they putted on the lead role he was just taking the biggest laugh of all time. Like making an open world it’s so fucking hard. No one can make it in 3 years. Like we’re the fuck are the animals that were in the first trailer? Where is this sensation of environment that the game put us ? This game is so incomplete. How the hell in a open wold there is not a variety of secundary characters??? 6 fucking years for this. Like Halo is my favorite franchise of all time bout I will not defend the game and just let my face full of shit while 343 is scamming the shit of everyone in multiplayer
Campaign comes out in 2 days and I'm seeing spoilers for it in my recommendations. It's just shooting/stabbing/bludgeoning myself in the foot at this point
Someone agrees with me!! I see so much hate on this game!! But I love the new in game / map style gameplay, along with the storyline, there has never been a halo I hate, how can you dislike a game if your already in love!! Ugh!! This game is a masterpiece!! ✌️🤟
Seems like Halo Infinite is what I didn't want to hope for: a really good singleplayer (and to-be coop) experience with an extremely solid multiplayer (which, admittedly, does need some extra features ;p) that actually feels like it could be the start of a genuine next-gen Halo series. It almost feels like a genuine successor to Halo 3. I know that sounds odd, but I'm sure you know what I mean.
Fletch, did you ever find that human shaped rock you supposedly claim to be seeing last year but we all shrugged it off as a madmans delusional fantasy??
Says a lot for the game that even though it right now lacks choosing MP game modes & a separate xp progression away from the battlepass…the game is still great!!
Incredible boss battles?! Walk backwards.....that was every boss by the last one. One of them I killed in 10 seconds on Heroic because the game let me bring a mini gun turret into the fight, did they TEST their own game in 6 years?! Imagine actually comparing this world to Zelda or Witcher. Theres NOTHING TO DO in this world other than the game putting things on your map, the marine rescues are laughably bad.
I think my rating will be a bit harsh. Proceeds to score with 8.5/10. I agree that’s an incredibly fair score. I don’t think anyone was gonna hate you for saying that mate.
I agree with almost everything you said. One disagreement I have is when you're talking about the button combos for changing equipment. I play Escape From Tarkov on a controller and I often argue with people who say that game could never come to console because the controls are too complicated. My argument has always been that with some creativity it is completely doable. My controller configuration in Tarkov relies on lots of varied inputs and button combos. It obviously takes some effort to learn but that was part of the fun for me. Your dismay with the button combo for equipment swapping is exactly the sort of mindset that can keep game devs from really pushing the controller further to offer more complex control schemes and from bringing games to console that might require some controller mastery. Otherwise that was a great review. Well done.
Thanks for the update. As for the campaign I have so many questions. Though I can wait for this game. I have thankfully got the BP and the game pass and the campaign buy though I have to pay back my friend with credit card. I can't afford any of these things without help. Living on disability retirement SSI is so limiting. I can't wait still.
I'm glad you took some jabs at it because it most certainly is not perfect. Regardless, I can't wait to play the campaign myself and I hope they do something above and beyond for coop like allowing your remaining 3 players to use their personal spartan from multiplayer. I feel like that would justify a traditional and core Halo mechanic not being present at launch
I for one, definitely agree with ya! The thing that gets me through not having co-op yet, is that this is all brand new. And having to figure it the best way to implement having multiple players in an open world Halo game might take some time. But that's just my thought, it helps me get through the day.
They should make a mission select like Doom Eternal's. Where you can find all the collectibles and sandbox items in a single save slot, but still go back to missions within the save slot, even with all your items unlocked. Then if you just wanna do a fresh playthrough with nothing unlocked, you can start a new save slot.
@@manz7860 I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people gush over the Weapon. It's such a jarring character, her constant quips just don't fit the Halo tone, like, at all. Feels to me like a Marvel transplant.
The stories ok. Kinda dumb how they retconned the last 2 games. So Cortana the biggest threat to the galaxy was just Bait and switched and deleted in a few scenes From a writing standpoint the forerunners were alluded to since the very first games. Cortana was set up to be the big bad and she was essentially killed off screen. So I'm just supposed to accept that the UNSC is destroyed by rogue aliens and then chief and a Mexican singlehandedly rebuilt the UNSC? Nah lol Honestly the story isn't very good. It gives me bad disney star wars vibes. But the open world is probably best since odst
I seriously hate the Weapon and her barrage of quips and jokes. It's distracting and it confuses the tone, way too much marvelesque comic relief IMHO. I don't think adorkable is a good fit for Halo. Having said that, I did enjoy the campaign, it's just something that grinds my gears.
I hope they don't. It would essentially just be the original trilogy all over again. This game seems more like resetting the franchise Than taking it in a fresh direction.
So I hammered the game when I got it, I thought it was a good length (although I didn't time it). Try not to rush it, but I think it could be completed quickly if you wanted to
I wish some the the cutscenes you played were more of what we have seen already. Even tho they don’t spoil plot points it’s hard to watch especially when I haven’t seen some places or specific cutscenes I would have wanted to see for myself
@@bullymaguire4640 Yeah I get that, you're not the only person to state it. I was very particular with what I showed to give visual variety but also because I didn't think they spoilt it too much (if at all). I get there's a degree of not wanting to see everything, but what I will say is there's still a hell of a lot of stuff that people haven't seen just yet and you'll realise what I've shown isn't very spoilery :)
@@grant2707 yeah I agree. I figured we would have at least gotten the endless or the flood too. But nope, just banished and the only relatively new enemy is just skimmers
The story is great but selecting on pause menu and other menus is something that needs fixed absolutely no doubt. It makes the menu system selection more trouble that it's worth or the game feel less than functional at times.
I get that the lack of co-op on launch is a let down but at the same time i don't see how its such a big issue. I love playing with my friends but if delaying it means that 343 can make it a more seamless experience and are really able to hone it in then i don't understand why people are so pressed over it. Its not like it will never be in the game. Id rather have a good fun playable game with the ability to play with my friends in the near future rather than a glitchy, messed up game that both me and my friends would get frustrated over. Its a smart move by 343.
I seriously can’t wait to see where they take the story after this. It feels like they’re setting up chiefs story in a very big way again and I love it. Some crazy shit is about to happen in chiefs next installment
*yawn* either flood again or more brutes. The forerunners were great from a writing standpoint. Forerunner>flood>covenant I just don't see how the brutes pose a bigger threat than the flood.
This whole story is a shit show, honestly. 343 keeps doing this whole "tell, don't show" bullshit and it does nothing but create massive plot holes while at the same time cheapening the games they make. Where the fuck are Cortana's Guardians? How could the Banished or Infinity even get close to Zeta Halo if she still had the Guardians? So where are they? I'm sorry, but how people can look at this mediocre pile of shit and think "yeah, this is a great game!" is beyond me. The intro is boring, takes control away from the player for cutscenes that could easily be playable. The choice of having a big dumb gorilla villain destroys all tension because we as the player know Chief is a force of nature that eats big dumb gorillas for breakfast. We finally get to the open world - which has one barren biome with just a few scurrying idiot critters that jump in front of your Scorpion tank and there's barely any foliage - this place can't even hold a candle to the Witcher 3's open world. And then there's the complete lack of big scripted set pieces (a staple of Halo games). But the worst part is how the little recording devices you find throughout the game tell a much better story than the main campaign. So I'm sorry, but the storytelling, the dialogue and the characters are just hot garbage. This was a massive waste of 60 euros for me.
@@UltimateHalo117 And besides Zeta Halo having a single nearly empty biome, there are no weather effects and the animals move at 30 FPS. Speaking of 30 FPS, the characters have their facial animations stuck at 30 FPS as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo's universe and played every game - even read 4 books. But this is just sad to play. While the combat feels great, all the side quests are super repetitive: kill that HVT, rescue that group of mariens (and kill the phantom-deployed reinforcements), kill the bozos and capture the FOB.
Sorry but the world isn't like breath of the wild, that seems misleading to me, breath of the wild has so much variety and discovery to it, it has so many different biomes, halo infinites world so far is just you raiding banished outposts, saving marines and coming across caves, that's about it, breath of the wilds world seems wayyy superior to halo infinites, I'd say infinites world is more of a mgs5 type of world
So I've heard MGS5 comparisons too, but where I'm approaching the BotW comparison is how you see something in the distance and it sparks your curiosity, so you go off the beaten path, how it's full of unexplained mysteries etc. Once you've sunk a good amount of hours into exploration, I'd hope you start to see what I mean.
