It's because Hashirama stole Danzo's collection of Hashirama Cells. I bet Hashirama was 100% juiced up on those cells. I can't believe the First Hokage's audacity to just STEAL from poor innocent Danzo. How could he do this???

The reason Tsunade looks so old with out her Transformation is because, "Creation Rebirth" works by accelerating the division of cells to cause the body to heal instantly. This has the side effect of accelerating the ageing processes while active. Thus Tsunade looks older then she really is.

the theory on hashirama's regenerative ability eventually killing him is the most plausible for me. there was a scene in the anime showing hashirama dead but without any marks on his body, tobirama was there and he didn't seem too upset about it; almost as if he knew it was coming. With tobirama's superior chakra sense and hashirama being weirdly willing to kill himself in exchange for tobirama's life and peace with the uchiha supports this theory; both siblings knew that hashirama's life was nearing its end.

Danzo was around the same age as the 3rd hokage. He definitely looks much younger than the 3rd hokage.

He probably used the same jutsu that Tsunade uses. The stay youthful jutsu. He was also made up of Deus Ex Machina cells. He died from " so powerful I've written myself into a corner syndrome" the same disease Itachi had.

The Senjus are like the Saiyans, they still look youthful when they grow older. Tsunade is the only exception.

Something to note is Madara had the bags under his eyes even as a child, it just wasn't as prominent. I think that was just a style decision, similar to Itachi's nose, not purely to indicate age. The timeline is just wonky. Tobirama died when Hiruzen was significantly younger looking than when he trained the sennin (most likely in his teens, let's say 19-20) and he started training the sennin at 24 (they're confirmed to have graduated at 6 and he's 18 years older than Tsunade). Since Tsunade must have been a few years old at least for the Hashirama backstory with her to make any sense, Hiruzen was at the absolute youngest 21 and Hokage when Hashirama was teaching Tsunade to gamble (assuming she was capable of that at 3 years old). This also means Hashirama was almost certainly alive AFTER Tobirama died. The timeline simply doesn't make sense, it's as simple as that.

Hashirama cell is like a band aid that can patch any plot holes in the series

So it isn't hard to believe that same power makes his body not just stronger, but age slower, as his cells were so full of that Life Energy.

I think Hashirama’s much older than he looks and it’s his DNA that sustained him. If we think about it, there are only 2 characters who have been made up of 100% Hashirama cells: Hashirama, and post war arc Orichimaru, who (at age like 70) looks younger than he did in part 1

The Senju and Uzumaki have very powerful life forces. In other fiction this means the characters live for a very long time and age like fine wine. Even when "old" they should have very little to no wrinkles. However I don't think it works like that in the Naruto universe since Tsunade needs a transformation jutsu to look young when she should naturally look like that.

It's actually crazy how we never hear about his children. Wouldn't they be almost as powerful as him? Why would only his granddaughter be recognized?

We know that Hashirama got married and had kids after the founding of the village because his wife was an Uzumaki who came from the Whirlpool village. So Konoha and the Whirlpool village were both founded, and had established relations.

The real problem is not Hashirama teaching Tsunade to bet, is Hashirama being Sarutobi's teacher.

My head cannon is that the time between the Uchiha and the Senju joining together and Hashirama being announced Hokage is much longer then is typically accredited. Like between that scene where Hashirama and Madara shake hands and the time where they fight is at least a decade. This should fix the issue with his age being weird. They made peace in their mid-twenties, Hashirama was announced Hokage in his mid-thirties, and died in his mid-fourties. This would be a reasonable time for him to become a young grandfather.

My theory is , the more Chakra you have the longer you live . Onokie, hiruzen, the two raikages, chiyo, are all old people and even in their old age they have lots of Chakra still.

Here in latinamerica, a 40 years old grandfather is a very common thing, considering the high percentages of teenage pregnancy and anti-abortion laws, so a 35-40 years old Hashirama doesn't look so weird.

With the Hashirama having kids thing, I just always assumed him and his future wide already had a thing going before the foundation of Konoha and just didn't make it official until he became Kage, meaning he could've already had kids way before that too out of wedlock and the thing with Tsunade would be in his mid-late 30s, making it slightly less wild lol

Imagine Hashirama dying from a stroke.

To debunk the whole Hashirama died because he overused his healing ability. The healing ability does indeed reduces one life span as per the explanation in the manga. However it would mean that the person would age much more rapidly than a normal human being. So if Hashirama overused his healing factor, he would still die as an old man, just at a much faster rate than normal human. Since all Edo Tensei characters come back in the form in which they died (clothes included) Hashirama couldn’t have died of old age, disease or overusing his healing factor since he is quite young and is wearing his battle armour. This means that Hashirama died in battle.

My headcanon has always been Hashirama and Tobirama look young due to the natural longevity of the Senju's. Mens just aged gracefully. Tsunade is a special case cause of the Hundred Healings.

I said that Hashirama had to at least be in his mid to late 40s, the only reason for his slow aging would come from him being a Senju. Since the Senju inherited the body of the Sage of Six Paths, they also inherited his slow aging; to support this theory, Tobirama is 2yrs younger than him and he also looked young.

The reason why there is no lineage of senju after hashirama / tsunade directly is because when forming the leaf village as well as the new found brotherhood between himself and madara, to further distribute peace and ensure his newly founded village can have a thriving community he intentionally sought after clans to move in to the leaf so that his offspring can intermix with down the road. In the warring states period between the senju and Uchiha inbreeding was common to keep the bloodline pure and to negate the Uchiha vs senju conflict he wanted to separate his clans name from its ego and regard. The Uchiha on the other hand who were arrogant and prideful always continued inbreeding holding that ego all the ways up until after itachi slaughtered the entire clan and ended when Sasuke had a daughter with Sakura leading to the symbolic foreshadowing of the era of peace hashirama invisioned

We can actually fairly accurately estimate Hashiramas age. We see Obito meeting a probably around 80 year old Madara(guessing that he is around 80 since he is having difficulty walking) at age 11/12(Kakashi became Jonin at age 10). So if he was 12 and Kakashi in the first part of naruto is 26/27, then he is 24/23 years younger than Tsunade. Meaning that at that time Tsunade was 36/37 making the 80 year old Madara 54/53 when he fought Hashirama. So Hashirama died between 55-60 years old if we assume all of this so far was correct.

When people bring up disease killing Hashirama, you gotta remember that if this is like the days before modern medicine, it's not out of the question that something like Influenza or Smallpox could've done it since those were basically lethal back then. Also such a thing could add into the whole "healing factor was killing him too" thing if we wanna go there, as healing off those kinds of diseases speeding up the timer also could've done it. Granted I do think he was in his early to mid-40's when he died, since this also could simply be that he aged well in life, as some people do (Look at William Shatner for example, he's 90 but you'd think he's 60 without context). This also leads into a theory about Reanimation too, that if the person knows how the reanimated person looked when they died, they look their age, else they look like what the caster assumes they look, which they'd assume their prime, that's a possibility when you look at Madara and how elderly he was when he died, but then was a lot younger when he was reanimated, meanwhile Hiruzen was rather elderly when he was reanimated by Orochimaru.

A user on the Naruto wiki named Seelentau has made an extremely accurate timeline of the series which I would recommend. From it you get some very interesting information, namely: 1. Hashirama Senju has to have reigned as Hokage for 16 years based on all known facts starting at the age of 25/26 and ending at 41/42 years of age. 2. Tobirama for all the hate he gets for "discriminating" against the Uchiha, can't have been able to do that much because he didn't even reign a whole year. If he was born the same year as Izuna (as is presumed), Tobirama died at the age of 39/40. 3. Hiruzen's reign is extremely massive being 46 years in total. Assuming office at 22/23 years of age he is the youngest person to assume the office of Hokage. 4. Minato became Hokage at the age of 23 and reigned for the second shortest period of all the Hokage, barely being above a year in office. 5. Tsunade assumed office at the age of 51 and reigned for 5 years. She is thus far the oldest person to assume the office of Hokage. Since Tsunade has definitively made it past 69 years of age, she is officially the longest-lived person to ever become Hokage. 6. Kakashi was Hokage for about 7 years assuming office at the age of 32. 7. Naruto has been Hokage for 8 years beginning at age 24/25. So for the tally from the longest to shortest reigns of Hokage: (1) Hiruzen Sarutobi, (2) Hashirama Senju, (3) Naruto Uzumaki, (4) Kakashi Hatake, (5) Tsunade, (6) Minato Namikaze, and (7) Tobirama Senju. My theory is that Hashirama's cells have a side effect: It ages the person faster. So, in my theory, Hashirama probably died young due to his rapidly aging cells, maybe around 40-50 years old. That also explains why Tsunade looked like 70 years old after using the Byakugo seal in Part 1, despite her still being at 50.

I wonder if it's like a Saiyan thing where they are physically at their peak for a long time before they start aging as Goku and Vegeta are still technically in their peak and they're in their 40s during Super And whether Tsunade got too self conscious or it got diluted over the years so she over-compensated with the 100 healings to keep her appearance which we know takes years off the life but that could also mean just aging her faster so she's physically 70 when 50 but looks 20 due to her jutsu I would say a minimum of 35 for Hashirama, Minato was noted to die young at 24 so they had to be past their 20s I would guess, and 35 seems like an age where grandchildren could be possible in the age where they probably had kids at 16 if not younger in the war times. @DygoKnight if you analyse the anime's voices in japanese. Both Hashirama and Tobirama sound like old men. Not just because they come from old time but also the way they talk to others. Tobirama treats oroshimaru like a kid calling him a brat, Hashirama behaves like an old uncle the way he seats on the floor and the tone of his voice. So them being on their 50's at their death doesn't seem too far-fetched

I watched a different video that surmised that Hashirama's reign as hokage likely lasted around 25 years, most likely peaceful up until the end when the war started and the drain of his healing factor caught up. He could've started his reign in his early-to-mid 20s and that would leave room for him to have lived up until Tsunade's "gambling lessons" as well as for Tobirama to have still looked young when he died. As for Madara, I'm inclined to think that 'that' MF's drive preserves him and that he eventually let himself age after the Hashirama fight because he eventually planned on coming back for round two.

The Naruto universe should have a year date that's for sure. And we could've known the year he died in.

I think Hashirama was just an early teenage dad, like 14~16, he must've had a child with a girl out of wedlock, or she died during the warring states period, or while giving birth, then his kid had Tsunade when Hashirama was around 37~40 when the kid was about 20~22, after the village was founded. Around this time he married Mito Uzumaki, and then had about 4~6 years as Hokage before he died of mysterious causes and never had a kid with Mito. If his kid was out of wedlock, it would explain why Tsunade doesn't have his surname, and if he had no other children it's would be understandable why he'd be so attached to her and she'd be called princess. The timeline is still a bit wonky though, the only way to work it out is to retcon some information given by the series. Like saying that when Tobirama named Hiruzen the next hokage, Tobirama didn't actually die because those events were not the ginkaku/kinkaku unit attack where he died and that actually happened later. I think you'd also need Hashirama to resign as Hokage for Tobirama to assume the post earlier.

Well, Hashirama was probably ~40 when he died, so had a kid at 18, and his kid had a kid at 18. He was a clan head and possessed an incredibly rare and valuable kekkei genkai, so of course the Senju would try to marry him off and secure the heir as early as possible. The more interesting bit is that Mito is stated to be over 100 years when she died. However, Kushina is ~10-12 at this point, and it happens ~25-30 years before the main series. Now, we know that at the beginning of the series it's been ~70 years since Konoha was founded, and that, when compared to Hashirama's age, would make Mito muuuuuch older than him, like late 40s- early 50s kind of older. Once again, isn't that surprising if Mito's and Hashirama's marriage was arranged for political purposes, and also makes sense that they tried to make a baby as soon as possible, considering Mito must have been right on the edge of not being able to have babies anymore, and she also must have used the same jutsu as Tsunade to look much younger than she actually was, but yeah, that's a story of one wild cougar. Either that or a much more mundane explanation of Kishimoto fucking up his own timeline.

Tsunade looks like nagato when he depleted his chakra

I always used to think the reason why hashirama looked the way he looked at his age was the same reason tsunade looked the way she looked at 50 during the run of naruto, the reserve seal. Maybe hashirama had something similar to halt his ageing in terms of looks. It's the most simplest and plausible solution I could think of.

There a slight forgotten details is that back then age of consent is usually around 15 and arrange marriage is a consistent thing so to keep some clan in power and forge bond with them so they don't kill each other.

Science time. During cell replication the tellomers get sliced. Once they are depleted you cannot heal anymore. (Low scale explanation) Tsunade's justsu more than likely uses the life span of her cells to maintain her youth so when the jutsu is undone because she is using more of her tellomers than normal she ends up looking more aged 🤷🏿‍♂️

Asians in general and east asians in particular seem to age really slowly. Have met Japanese and Korean friends who, without cosmetics, look no older than 20 while they're in their early 40s. And few “elderly” in their 70s looking like they still have to pass 50. Though noticed many seem to age rapidly between 50 and 60, like 3 or 4 decades compressed in just a few seasons. My guess, besides genetics, diet and exercise are not to be underestimated factors.

It's very possible that he was right about 45-48 when he died. There are people in our world that look way Young when they're like in their 50s, so it is very possible that he just has the gene that makes him look young even when he is like way old. My mom has this gene as do many of my family members, she looks 29 to 33 but is nearly 50

It’s weird because in the naruto world if you are a genius you most likely a jonin or chunin at like 8( itachi was like 13 when he killed his clan meaning before 13 he was already leading a anbu squad) my head canon to make it make sense he was like 35 (had a kid at 17) and tsunade was born when he was 30 ( meaning his child was like 13( Regardless someone was in their early teens having kids to make anything make sense)
