Hell no Andy Gibb was no one hit wonder and he was the Bee Gee's little brother. He had 3 singles each one topped #1 on Billboard Pop Charts and it's a record that still holds today. He had other music as well. He died at age 30 from an inflammatory heart virus. His heart was weakened from cocaine use. There wasn't a spot on my ceiling or walls in my bedroom that didn't have a poster or picture of him on it. His death crushed me. You should react to his other 2 number 1 hits.
Crushed me too. He was my main 70's heart throb! Had posters everywhere as well. I feel so bad for Barry. All of his brothers left this earth too soon 😭
Actually - Whitney Houston broke that record. Spencer Gibb (Robin’s son, Andy’s nephew) talked about it, when people trashed Whitney after her tragic death.
I was so heartbroken when he passed. I saw him at the Wisconsin State in 1978, I was 15 years old. I went with my sister and some of her friends, I still have tshirt I got there… such a big loss
3 singles? No honey, he had 9... all from his 3 albums. They were all #1s or top 10s... He died from Viral Cardiomyopathy, not from anything that had to do with drugs. Drugs certainly didn't help his condition but it didn't cause it either.
In the United States, Andy Gibb became the first solo artist to have three consecutive number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. In July 1977, he had his biggest hit, "I Just Want to Be Your Everything", a song written by his brother Barry, just as his first international album, Flowing Rivers, hit the Top 20, selling over a million copies. The album's second single, "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water," broke the commercial explosion caused by its brothers' contributions to the Saturday Night Fever OST in early 1978, replacing "Stayin' Alive" at the top of the chart. American, although later surpassed by "Night Fever" when it reached the peak in the middle of the North American summer. Continuing the moment of success, Andy began working with the production team Gibb-Galuten-Richardson on his second album "Shadow Dancing." The single of the same name from the album, written by the four Gibb brothers, was released in the United States in April 1978, and in mid-June it reached number one, staying for seven weeks and receiving platinum status. Two Top Ten songs, "An Everlasting Love" and "(Our Love) Do n't Throw It All Away", a cover of an earlier version by his brothers, were taken from the album and released as singles, becoming another best-seller. of one million copies.
Andy is the youngest brother of the BeeGees (Brothers Gibb)! Had a solo career because he was much younger. Andy had several hits. He got into cocaine & died of a heart attack at 30 years old, in the prime of his popularity & career. So tragic. 😢
Corrections he didn''t die of a heart attack it was a heart conditon from Cocaine and alcohol abuse, his brother said he had self esteem issues when it came to performing, he got famous at only 19 years old he wasn't even grown and the fame was to much too soon. He got into the LA scene which was terrible for drug abuse in the mid to late 70's, it also took the life of the group AWB member as well.
@Retro_Disco He died from all if the drug use. Too much damage already. He was also broken-hearted because his love, Victoria Jackson, had to leave him over the drug thing.
When Andy died,my mom and I were both in a state of shock. We simply couldn't believe it. I was in our dining room with the newspaper and my mom was in the kitchen.
Andy was my favorite of the brother's Gibb. He was very talented in his own right he was a solo artist no one can take anything from him period. Sadly he passed away at 30 yrs young. He was oh so hotttt and smooth he could melt butter. Andy had some issues but who in the hell doesn't if you are honest about it. We all fall short at times. When i die i want Andy to come get me love this man always have. I would go anywhere with this man. Awesome reaction. btw hell no he was not a one hit wonder that was a slap in the face to Andy.
Andy Gibb - “don’t throw it all away “ is an awesome song too ! I remember Andy especially because he was on Soild gold for the first couple of years as a cohost with Marilyn MCcoo of the fifth dimension then after Andy left the show then Rex Smith filled his spot on the show ! Andy Died in 1988 because of a heart condition due to years of drug abuse ! So sad but , the dude could sing I think he sounded a lot like both Barry Gibb his oldest brother and his other older brother Maurice who was one of The Bee Gees !
So funny that you keep comparing him to the Beegees and said it made you feel the same as when you were listening to them! It's because you were listening to them! Lol! He's their little brother, and they were sing with him on this song! That means technically, they had at least three songs at the top at the same time!
Just a minor thing, Andy hadn't officially joined the group (though he did perform with them now & then). Early 1988, they announced he would become a Bee Gee, beginning with their next tour, but he died March 10, before that happened.
@@charles2241 Barry Gibb wrote this for andy and was involved im many of his little brothers best songs, as was Mo and Robin. RIP ANDY, MO and ROBIN, Godspeed Barry.
Andy also was back up vocals for a short while for the bee gees. He was HUGE in the 70s. It is hard to know, but my guess is had he lived and not been an addict he would have gone on to make even more hits. It's in the Gibb genes.
This song was written by all 4 brothers, Barry, Robin, Maurice and Andy. It was his third consecutive number 1 the 2 first being "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" and "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" He was the first to have his 3 first singles going munber 1 and I think it is still unmatched until today. So a one hit wonder he surely was not. Shadow Dancing has been named the the most succesfull song of 1978 by billboard and that says a lot because it was in competition with his brothers songs "Stayin' Alive (4)", "Night Fever (2)", and "How Deep Is Your Love (6). (Love Is) Thicker Than Water was number 8 on the same list and Grease with Frankie Valli written by Barry was number 11, "If I Can't Have you" with Yvonne Ellimann was number 19 and Andy was aslo number 45 with "An Everlasting Love" So the Gibb Brothers was totally dominant in 1978. www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/1978/hot-100-songs
Everlasting Love was Carl Carlton I think. Unless there's another song called Everlasting Love. And I think that one was written by Gloria Estefan & her husband Emilio.
@@carmensandiego7749 They might have song called that but Andy Gibb's song called "An Everlasting Love" can be heard through the link below and it was written by Barry Gibb. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dK5VKo7FUe0.html
He was so loved. He hosted "Solid Gold" on TV every week. He died in 1988 at 30 years old. My wife cried. Oh also listen to "Love is Thicker than Water" and "I Want to be Your Everything"
@@jodieasterling1992 I was also about 11,or 12 years old when Andy became my first real crush. Barry his brother I still have a crush on. At 55 Barry still makes me weak at my knees.
Andy had 4 top ten hits from his first 2 albums. I Just Wanna Be Your Everything, Love Is Thicker Than Water, Everlasting Love and Shadow Dancing. He also did covers of his brother's songs...Our Love ( Don't Throw It All Away) , In The Morning, Warm Ride and Rest Your Love On Me ( with Olivia Newton John). He was in no way a one hit wonder and was a Bee Gee by birth even without his officially being a member of the group. He sadly died after his 30th birthday.
You will find, when you listen to them simultaneously, that Andy and Barry really don't sound alike. They have very distinctive voices. As a life long Gibb brothers fan, I can pick them out blindfolded 😉
It's kinda crazy how the first born and the last born look like twins they were very good looking ,and Barry is the only one still here that's crazy maybe crazy is not the right word lol
@@gmlcajun The twin thing ..crazy 😊 The fact that Barry's the only one left, some kind of weird wrongness. I feel for him, it's not supposed to be that way.
So right, they're an awesome example that music is devoid of colour, gender, race or religion. Music is the most common language shared and represented by all 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I always thought that too. Loved Andy when I was growing up. I also use to think that if they had ever done a movie about his life, Heath Ledger could have played him but sadly he's gone from this world too.
Did you say “I wanna go skating”?! YES Andy and the BeeGees make the ultimate skate grooves, so funky smooth, so glad you got to hear this gem! He is AMAZING! The BeeGees were THE blue eyed soul. 😎🕺🏼🪩🛼🔥 Dude, I dig you too, the way you get into it is exactly how this music feels. ❤❤❤ Such a great review, first impression, definitely has to be on your playlist now!
My older cousin introduced me to great music from a young age. I was about 10 yrs old when she bought Andy's new single "I just want to be your everything" & she had me come over to hear it. She played it over & over on a constant loop, until we both had the lyrics memorized. I just turned 55 on Tuesday (Apr 5) & I still know every word of that song & "Shadow Dancing". Those two songs have been burned into my long term memory, so I'll still be able to sing it verbatim when I'm in my 80's or 90's... if my body lasts that long - LOL! I'm so glad more people are starting to discover the music of the "baby Bee Gee" brother. Even though Andy was 12 years younger than Barry (the oldest), they could have been twins. They share very similar facial features & vocal sound. Barry & Andy looked more like twins than the actual fraternal twins, Robin & Maurice did - LOL! Andy is the baby of the family & he was still little when his older brothers hit it big on the music charts back in the 1960's. With the help of his brothers, Andy embarked upon a solo career, which he was very successful at, even in the short amount of time he created music. He put out a few albums, appeared on many TV shows, & also hosted a variety show called SOLID GOLD that did weekly countdowns of the most popular songs of the time. On occasion, he joined The Bee Gees while on their concert tours or TV specials. Sadly, he died just a few days past his 30th birthday (1988) from a heart condition, which was greatly exacerbated by years of alcohol & drug use. He was the youngest, but the first to pass away. Then twin #1 Maurice died in 2003, followed by the other twin, Robin in 2012. Barry, the oldest boy and his sister, Leslie (first born) are the last two surviving Gibb siblings left...
My goodness, them dance moves are so darn cute...facial do looking nice , as well. Now the Gibbs, Andy was my biggest crush out of all the brothers.. Broke my heart when I learned he passed at such a young age. He was only 30....All of the four , only one is left, and that is the oldest Barry...''Thanks sweetheart for the awesome entertainment. It really helps when you a single with a very small circle, oh and I am picky. I have been really busy with stuff that I have not forgot you, tho...hopefully can catch you live tomorrow and will get you on the high end of the App in a few days. Peace and Love outta Va
Another great songs from Andy Gibb is "Love is thicker than Water" .." I just want to be your everything" ❤️❤️❤️ Love Andy ...Gibb brothers are Amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this reaction! NOT a one hit wonder! He had MANY HITS!!!!! Andy Gibb was SOOO talented! Check out - Everlasting Love, Love is Thicker Than Water, Don’t Throw It All Away, Rest Your Love On Me (duet with Olivia Newton-John)
Andrew Gibb (5 March 1958 - 10 March 1988) was an English-Australian singer, songwriter, and actor. ... He was the younger brother of the Bee Gees. Andy came to prominence in the late 1970s through the early 1980s with eight singles reaching the Top 20 of the US Hot 100, three of which went to number-one: "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" (1977), "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" (1977), and "Shadow Dancing" (1978). In the early 1980s, he co-hosted the American music television series Solid Gold. He also performed in a production of The Pirates of Penzance and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Andy would later have issues with drug addiction and depression. He died on 10 March 1988, five days after his 30th birthday.
He could have been a bee gee but he wanted to do it on his own. He's a Gibb of course he has awesome voice. He was their younger. He dated Victoria Principal. He died young.
I crushed hard on Andy Gibb when I was a kid. Loved him on Solid Gold. Watch Bee Gees biography on HBO Max. Barry talks about Andy and how they were so similar. Andy was going to join the Bee Gees the year he died--that's what Barry says.. Really good documentary. Died too young.
“I Just Wanna be your everything “ & “Love is thicker than water”. He also was a host for a while on a popular TV music countdown show called Solid Gold. He performed many duets on there.
Andy performed with the Bee Gees on the song You Should Be Dancing. Andy Gibb was announced as joining his brothers on the Bee Gees fulltime. He died before that could happen.
Andy is the baby brother of the Bee Gees. You may recognize their voices singing back up. Barry Gibb co-wrote this song and produced for his brother Andy. Did you know the Bee Gees are brothers?? Here is the link to, "You Should Be Dancing" from the Bee Fees Spirits Having Flown tour. They performed this song with Andy, so ALL 4 brothers together. Such a full, rich sound. Andy was 12 years younger than Barry and wasw too young to be a Bee Gee. They were playing with idea of bringing Andy into the group, but sadly, /Andy passed away. Barry is the only brother left and at 74 he is STILL recording and performing.,
He was young brother who passed away from drugs an alcoholism..he was on his own an his brother Barry helped him write all his hits an he has alot...he was ready to join his brothers in bee gees but passed away before that... Andy Gibb was so talented and good.. he's no one Hit wonder..he has many hits
Baby bro of the Bee Gees! You can hear his brothers doing backup vocals. There is a clip here which has all 4 of them singin in a concert. Man! Love a lot of Andy’s songs: love is thicker than water, I just want to be your everything, one more look at the night, I can’t help it (duet with olivia newton john)
Try listening to the Gibb Collective - The children of the Gibb brothers (and niece Bari) singing their songs, as well as The Ghost Twins - Spencer Gibb and Samantha Gibb. The next generation of the family is incredibly talented as well!!!
whenever i see a video of Andy, it makes me sad. i grew up listening to his and his brother's songs (BEE GEES), only when i turned 22 that my mom told me that he died early...i cried. no, he's not a one-hit wonder. he's got a plethora of them. below are my fave songs of him: WORDS AND MUSIC (the reason i learn some guitar) I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING AN EVERLASTING LOVE DON'T THROW IT ALL AWAY I CAN'T HELP IT REST YOUR LOVE ON ME
Andy was a gorgeous young man, the youngest of the Gibb boys & of the Beegees. Can u hear the resemblance in sound to his famous brothers? Of course he had his own successful career being younger than the others. He also sounds a lot like his brother Barry & was closer in looks to him than Maurice & Robin. They were a talented family that's for sure & all good looking. Unfortunately, Andy did throw it all away by dying at a tender age of just 30. No-one knew what lifestyle he was living not even his brothers, not till the end when the truth came out. So sad as he was so gifted & left behind a family of his own. Andy also had songs called Words & Music & I Just Wanna Be Your Everything both great songs written with the help of his brothers. His career would still be going today no doubt had he not left us in 1988.
This was written by Andy & his brothers (BeeGees)........Andy had several great songs. All of the brothers Gibb had those voices. Andy was younger than the BeeGees , so he missed out on the group...but they were all close and supportive of one another. Barry is the only one remaining....Bless his heart.
This song was wrote by, Barry, Robin and Maurice. They wrote 3 songs in one day, Too much Heaven, Tragedy and Shadow Dancing for Andy Gibb. They were very Talented writers...
