i was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis this year and my life has really changed. i remember being mad because i was only 22 getting an “old persons” disease. but i’m happy that i have 1.3 million ppl like me! thanks ted talks for spreading awareness for all the arthritis’s!
I have the same disease fro 10 years. Don't give up! Eventually you will learn to leave with the pain. Try to control your feeling and how external sources affects you. Autoimmune diseases are affected from out mood so if you are stressed or sad more than usual you will hurt. If you learn to control your emotions and learn to protect yourself the pain will be controlled as well. Seeing a therapist will help with the anger that I truly understand you are feeling. It helped me at least!
Stella Ypok thank you so much i felt like there was a connection between that too because when i go through my flare ups i just feel so defeated. i will definitely take your advice :)
@@antarcticpenguin1151 Very tender. Slightly knocking your finger against a solid object is nearly as painful as getting nut tapped. At least that's my experience
When I was 17 Arthritis destroyed my dreams of becoming a sports person and gave me mental trauma... now im 31 and having it under control.....but what is lost was best time of my life ...
Friend I can show a very good product for Arthritis -its not for marketing purposes it's really effective products without any side effects -company since 1978 -highly reputed and trusted company -please ping me my telegram username - PK
I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was 17. I had been having symptoms since the age of 11 but it’s extremely hard to get a diagnosis in my country. It’s been extremely difficult for me, especially since I was told that if I hadn’t been keeping up with yoga (which I’m quite fond of) I would’ve been completely seized up by now. Fortunately I’ve been dating Methotrexate ever since, but I’ve been struggling very much with the symptoms of the medication. Today I decided to come to this video in the search of why there is no definite cure as today I had one of my worst flare ups ever during school. Throughout the day, my legs in particular just started to hurt so much. My knees felt as if they were crunching with every step resulting in me having to leave the school early. Nobody should have to suffer with arthritis, not the young or the old. I hope and pray that those doing their research will soon make a breakthrough and provide help to those in need. Until that day comes, I wish them the best of luck.
I've had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 2 years old, I'm now 23 and learned to live with it. But I'm shocked by the number of people that know nothing of the disease, especially the ones that assume only old people have it.
Some years ago I had an accident and had to have surgery to get well. During the operation the surgeons saw that I had quite severe arthritis in several places. During rehab I met a really good doctor to talk about this. The one single thing he stressed was the importance of not becoming sedentary. And running, he said, was a lot better than swimming etc as it put stress on the joints and would lead to them getting better. First though I had to start proper strength training, lifting weights etc, in order to become strong enough in my knees, legs, back etc to be able to run and maintain good posture. So I did that while slowly increasing my mileage. A couple of years ago I started running barefoot. Today, the only times I experience any pain in my joints, back etc is when I have not been able to work out or run for some time, due work or being sick. As soon as I start again it only takes a few workouts and runs before the pain disappears. Physical exercise is literally the best cure for many of these conditions. However, one needs to start slowly and increase gradually, otherwise there is a risk of overuse injuries.
Really hope they find a solid for sure cure in my lifetime, I'm 21 and I've had about three major injuries to my right knee over the past four years and the last one that I had a couple months ago really did it and tho I'm mobile again I'm pretty sure I damaged my meniscus from that, my agility is everything to me and something I take pride in and arthritis is a deep fear of mine because I've seen what it's done to people in my family, my aunt borderline became unable to move at all and needs help just living somewhat normally and my mom always complained about her fingers, come on science I believe in you 😭, I'll also take a robot leg if that becomes a thing first 💀
Ohh I am 21 yo too, they diagnosed me rhumatoid arthritis, I was so scared even tho only my fingers were hurting, now my knee hurts as well, ankle, shoulders, but I feel better since I decided to change my way of life. Anyways I really hope you get better.
I have had osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease since i was a kid. I am now 28 and dealing with hemiplegia, paraesthesia and episodes of paralysis. my issues are caused/made worse by EDS. This video makes me happy because it raises awareness of young people suffering with chronic pain.
I have spondyliti arthritis since i had 8 years, its really difficult to have a normal life with this but the most important thing its that you have to be positive and always work out, swimm, do yoga, jump rope and be positive because everything its going to be ok
😱 I have spondyloarthritis! Thank you for addressing so many misconceptions in this video! I’m 23 and I can’t tell you how many times I’m told “you’re too young to have arthritis!” or “my grandma has that!” Seriously. Everyone who wants to understand my condition should watch this.
@@arsh4dkhan My dad and I got undiagnosed. He likely doesn’t have spondyloarthritis. He doesn’t have any fusion which means I likely won’t get it either. (He does have bone cysts and a ton of musculoskeletal issues from a car accident he had at 17 though) It makes sense because the treatments for spondyloarthritis weren’t working well. My brother was diagnosed with EDS (Ehler’s Dahnlos Syndrome) and I’m hypermobile so I’m now being screened for connective tissue disorders. I’m also being treated for a new diagnosis: fibromyalgia. I’m on drugs to help with nerve issues and they’re helping me. Chronic fatigue is better but still a problem but I’m finally able to work outside the house! I’m a teacher :) Being disabled is such a trip though. My diagnosis journey IS the most common story. Being given unhelpful treatments in the norm. The physical therapy that was designed for arthritis hurt my hyper mobility. The anti-inflammatory drugs messed up my stomach. I’m better than I was at 23 though :) thanks for asking. It means a lot.
This gives magicians some crazy anxiety, including myself. Imagine having the one thing that mattered to you the most taken away from you, slowly turning the performance of those sleights into something too painful to do; Magic has been a big part of my life, and I still think about this everyday.
I've had arthritis since I was 3 and am in my 20's now, my knees feel weak after I get a really bad pain, my hands are starting to get pain now. I really wish we could cure it.
I was diagnosed with juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at 1 years old, I'm now 21! Medication to help symptoms have come a long way but I'm hopeful for the future so kids don't have to go through all the pain I did as a child
One way to approach this problem is by the science of Macrobiotics. Extensive studies should be carried out to find countries or regions that suffer the least from arthritis and study history of the syndrome to find out when and where it started to manifest significantly etc. Then draw conclusions as to what foods, life style, or climate influence its spread.
I used to be a softball player for a year and it was the best cause I really love to be active. It was summer when I was 11 when I noticed my left knee is swollen but it doesn't hurt. It was kinda uncomfortable cause when I'm standing I feel this bulge in my knee. Then after 2 days, I can't walk. It hurts so much. Then after a month it was my hand, my wrist, my finger and my elbow. In just one year. At 15, I can't anymore stretch all my fingers, my elbow, can't even bend my hand, and the worst part is my right leg that joint between my hip and leg. It's the worst. I can't walk and stand for too long. Now, my back is the one acting it always hurts cause of my improper way of standing and walking. I can't seem to explain this to other people but I'm glad they don't ask me why I look like this and all but I know they know something is wrong. Sometimes I wish I was dead. I envy those people who can do all these things I can't do. I've been trying to find people who's like me but I didn't find anything. I'm only 24 now and I'm afraid I won't make it 'til I'm 50.
My eyes are tearing reading through your comment because my story is also same but whenever I go to different place people always asks me why I am different 😭 Sorry for my English I'm not from English speaking country
I've seen a lot of people suffering from this decease (including my father) and they seem to believe a lot of unproven things, hope this will help the young and old about arthritis.
I’m kind of lost. I’ve been having some slight, very slight tingles in my right hand ring and pinky finger. My thumbs tingle a lot of held still floating. I’m 14, play video games, panic a lot and overthink. It’s been 9 months since this has happened and I don’t want to burden my family.
What I want to know is how yesterday I had no type of arthritis and today I have rheumatoid arthritis all over? How does that happen and I was on a mostly plant based diet and dairy and red meat and pork free!!!
I was able to develop a plan using specific foods and suppliments to get my husband into remission from Junior Idiopathic/Rhumetoid Arthritis. He was heavily medicted from age 12 to 27. He's been doing well for over 3 years with no need for meds and no sign of arthritis or autoimmune on any scans or blood work. Stay strong everyone! There is hope to be found.
I have an Arthritis condition. I have taken treatment as well. It helped for a while, but still have worst lower spine pain at L4 and L5 as the soft tissues bulged. I struggle especially lying on back and wen I try to turn and change position. It's really a painful condition
Benoy Matthews, a leading UK-based physiotherapist, warns he is seeing increasing numbers of yoga teachers with serious hip problems - many of whom require surgery - because they are pushing their bodies too hard. Mr Matthews, a specialist hip and knee physiotherapist and member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, says he sees four to five yoga teachers a month. He says the problem lies in people repeatedly pushing their bodies into "prescribed" positions, when their physiology prevents it.
My mom suffers from arthritis. Recently I've been feeling stiffness in my joints aswell and I'm really worried. I love martial arts and working out and if I by any chance have arthritis idk if ill be able to that
lmao i had that 'shiz is google spying on me' moment because i have arthritis (only recently found out) but then it was only TED-Ed XD (false alarm guys its not google this time lol)
I have spondyloarthropathy and facet arthropathy because of three injections (caudal epidural, nerve root block and foraminal epidural). They were given illegally to me without our knowledge. The doctor who did this said I had sciatica, but I didn't. I just had muscle strain/spams. Now I'm in pain every waking moment. Mostly bed bound. It has been 2years :) medical malpractice is a serious issue but alas nobody cares. I'm just 22years old :)
It's a shame for humanity we know crisper techniques could cure genetic disease,s but we are not using it, there are so many people in pain and we are still watching them
Cool to see a video that explains Spondyloarthritis. Thank you. From what I've learned is that the immune system is attacking the joints as they are made up of proteins that come from irregular sources of proteins from diet. Put simply, if your body is rebuilding itself with improper proteins that come from plants, nuts, and non-grass fed meats, they lack the proper structure to not be targeted by the immune system. This is still just a theory that requires more research, but leads me to believe that the reason Carnivore diets work is because the body is able to rebuild itself with the best form of proteins and nutrients that come from the highest quality of meats - grass fed and grass finished cows.
Actually, 80% of the 70 years old pain free patient do have osteoasthritis. Maybe another to look at it is just that it’s a normal way for the joint to evolve, and to adapt, since it allows the join to have a larger surface to spread the mecanical forces, and so, having less frictions in a given joint. Of course sometimes it can be painfull, and an inflammatory process can be observe mostly in a painfull population. And yes it does Also reduce range of motion. I just wanted to highlight an other point of view, with less of what i see here as an healthcare professionnal as an interesting biomedical explanation, but also as a nocebo for most of our patient. OA is not something we should be afraid of, because just as grey hear, it hurt mostly when you look at it for a vast majority of patient
It’s correct. It’s saying that the number 100 is less than the number of arthritic conditions. And since there are over 100 arthritic conditions, the symbol is correct
Food that's it! For all you know, there is cure for arthritis, been there, felt the pain in my knees.. now healed and relieved.. culprit: foods solution: foods. I totally STOPPED eating purine-rich foods that increases uric acid.. such as nuts, YEAST laden foods, beef/pork, etc. Self-control...
Medical science has been extremely rapidly evolving in the past few years thanks to new understanding and experimentation with cell growth, it might be in maybe 20 years or so we have actually found a way of creating self replicating cartilage cells that can be injected into the joint to stimulate new growth, or growing completely new cartilage in a lab that can then be used to replace damaged cartilage. Fundamentally the big issue with arthritis is there's no blood supply large amounts of cartilage within the body and blood flow is the main thing that stimulates tissue to repair and regenerate itself.
@@Sergei_Ivanovich_Mosin the root of the problem is not in the cartilage of the joints, but on the immune system. Hopefully they fins a way to retrain the immune system to stop attacking joints and organs. Since today's treatments only lower down the immune system leaving people immunosuppressed and at risk of severe infections.
My father has Arthritis and its heartbreaking to see him wake up every morning wishing he could work for our family and have fun with his family. He is 50 years old and he lived with it for so long and it seems that every year he gets worse and worse as he begins losing weight. I wish I could help though he cries about his future and I wish I could find something to help him.
I will also be trying something (Moringa) recommended by the RU-vid channel: Big Family Homestead. You should definitely check it out because many people in the comments testify that it works
I'm 21, last year I was diagnosed with early osteoarthritis. I so wanted to know how did I develop this condition. People were quick to question my eating habits, but I have a very healthy diet all my life. This video helped me alot to understand thank you. Also, I wish we find a cure in near future.
One thing these never tell us is muscle mass takes stain off our joints. Weak muscles or non developed stabilizers might be something for you to look into.
I watched my mother suffer from both rheumatoid and osteo, so I'm definitely taking advantage of my youth to focus on prevention. An anti-inflammatory diet is surprisingly simple and inexpensive.
By the grace of God my Arthritis has been finally cured Thanks for your help Dr Osoria thanks for being with me in my hard days and making me encourage when I was thoughtfully depressed thanks u so much sir
