It is said that his performance was so unbelievably badass that the movie gods became jealous, and sentenced him to die in every role since then as penance for his hubris.

Not all of the movies, Sean Bean played fictional caracter called Sharpe in 16 movies and he was great. I love his movies, but Sharpe was something very special, it was a good story and he did it very well.

Funny thing is I can see him playing one character from the book I'm working on, he dies in the third chapter.

Just finished watching the original run of "Sharpe". He owed us about 50 deaths for the number of times he should have died.

They left out the scene in the THE MARTIAN where after they save the day he trips and breaks his neck falling down the stairs.

Just worked on a film where Sean Bean dies - brilliant scene, and after shooting it he came back to watch it on the monitors. The man watched it back a few times, cackling. He loved it.

i think the reason he dies so much is that.. in more recent movies he comes across as very wise and regal.. game of thrones for instance. that regal bearing makes his death more impactful and adds more emotion to the plot. of course i wouldn't be surprised if it's kind of an inside joke by now among filmmakers. i know if i made a film and a character had to die halfway through, i'd love having sean bean play him. the fact that he is a pretty damn good actor doesn't hurt at all

I started reading a novel series called the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell. I found out that Sean Bean had starred in a tv show based on the books several decades ago. I then had to check if the character died at any point in the books. If Sean Bean played the character, be prepared.

honestly Ronin is the best exit from a film for Sean Bean. Because he doesn't die which is actually shocking but more so it is a really fitting death of pride for that character.

i think its because he is charismatic as an actor and as the one he portrayes in movies he is relatable and that all make s his death important for the story and the people.

He’s still alive at the end of Anna Karenina (1997) on the train and heading to the Balkans. Bean has appeared in much more than Goldeneye and LOTR films. One simply doesn’t assume he dies in everything just because it happens now and then.

Actually it occurred to me why Sean Bean characters getting killed off never gets old - because when you look at him, he looks tough and indestructible, like you expect him to come out of every fight, every battle victorious, until he doesn't. And he does not look like the guy whose death you'd mourn (unless it's Ned Stark). So until someone raises the issue of Sean Bean always getting killed off, you don't notice it.

all TV/movie studios: we've got a character who dies in the course of the story who do we cast sean bean: hey I'm here to audition for a role. studios: no need we know exactly where to put you.

He made it all the way through Troy. It helps to play the one character everybody knows will survive: Odysseus. And the one producers can use for a sequel.
