Why I am Not an Iconoclast 

I would add that Moses and Elijah being at the Transfiguration is highly significant. These two figures had similar visions of God in the Old Testament, in which they were hidden in the cleft of a rock. Moses was not allowed to see God's face directly, lest he would die; and Elijah covered his own face when he went out from the cleft to speak with God. But at the Transfiguration, these same two figures see God's glorified face in Christ, with no indication of any covering taking place.

I’m not an iconoclast because I believe that icons and symbols provide a sense of identity and history to us as believers of a 2000 year old faith.

John 4 God is a Spirit and they who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Images are for people to see with their eyes which is sin of Idolatry. Which is why the Catholic church changed the ten commandments and removed the on graven images. Ye must be born again.
