I just bought a Honda Ridgeline RTL...yesterday. What a super nice truck. Comfortable, good power, great driver features. Just super pleased. Now let's see if I can get 200K miles on it.
The Ridgeline is proof positive the Honda marketing department needs to be fired. For 99% of mid-size truck drivers, it's hands down the best mid-size truck. Yet no one seems to know it...
I don’t believe marketing differently will help it much. Truck buyers are typically dead set on old brand names. Ford has been terrible in quality control and pricing, yet people still say Ford is the only one they trust.
@@bikebudha01what they need to do is pitch it as an “outdoorsy lifestyle” or something along those lines, vehicle to people who don’t buy trucks, they’ll be a lot more open to it
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, sir. Reaffirmed what I and many others think about the Ridgeline. Will be in the market for my next daily driver soon and even for a diehard F-150 fan like myself, can't deny how great an option the Ridgeline is. Safe travels.
I love how roomy the cabin is. As someone who's 6'4 midsize trucks are usually too cramped for me. Especially the Tacoma. But the Ridgeline is perfect. The Ridgeline is extremely space efficient.
Correct on all counts and pretty much the same reasons I’m on my second one. Sold my 2018 RTL-E, test drove all the competition (including the F-150) and ended up purchasing a 2023 RTL-E. It’s just a great truck. Honda has something special here. Resale values on these are spectacular, drove my original one for 4.5 years and sold it for more than I paid for it in late 2021. Yes, the market was still a bit crazy then but…. Still.
@@fatrobdouble Five year newer truck with full warranty (none on the 2018). 9-Speed tranny is far superior to the six speed. Blinker indicator lights in the mirrors. a real horn vs. the tinny one in 2018. Rear doors that open wider than the 2018. Revised front and rear ends (with dual exhaust) make a huge difference in the looks. Much nicer wheels and tires than the 2018. A revised stereo with a volume knob. Wireless charging for cell phone. Probably more stuff I'm forgetting, lots of improvements over the years. I sold my '18 for more than I paid for it and bought the '23 for $3,500 under MSRP. The real question is - why wouldn't I??
@@DB-sd3cwSome people upgrade every couple of years and plus if you didn’t in 21 with the amount of money dealers were offering for used cars you were stupid. People were getting more money for them used than if they were buying new.
I've had my 2022 Honda Ridgeline since August of 2022 and I went with the White Black Edition. I absolutely love it and the dealership has been great. I'm approaching 12,000 miles now, as of this comment (May 2023), and do a mix of everyday Highway/street driving and get close to 22apg. It's very quiet, powerful, and comfortable. I have not used it for towing yet, but hauling it holds everything I need. I also recommend the Ridgeline.
Man I want more videos from you on the ridgeline. I have a crv and an odyssey. I’m strongly looking into the ridgeline to fill in my truck needs. Just on occasion. Great video for sure greatly appreciated
I had a 2019 Ridgeline RTL and loved it. When they did the redesign, I traded for a 2021 Ridgeline RTL-E and love it even more. Best truck for everyday use. Smooth ride, easy handling, above adequate towing capacity and lots of creature comforts. Big bang for your buck - which is pretty much true with other Honda models as well.
I have a 2021 RTLE. No regrets with my purchase. I get average 22 mpg hwy and in my small town. Last road trip I got 26mpg with cruise set at 75. I've hauled a camper that weighs about 2600 lbs and it has plenty of power. But it affects the gas mileage heavily if it is a camper say around 8 or 9ft highline. But with a low profile trailer it does much better as you would expect without a lot of drag. I take it into the woods during deer season and have hauled over a half ton of topsoil with no issue. I love it and likely won't buy a different truck unless something comes out I just have to have. But doubt that happening before I've got a couple hundred thousand miles on it.
I just purchased a 2024 ridge line rtl , traded in a 2016 ram bighorn. I agree with your video 100%, had that truck 8 years and loved it, but didn’t need. Absolutely love the Honda. Forgot to say I’m retired from GM.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. I'm at 30k now and still very happy that I bought the ridgeline. it does all the truck stuff that I need it to do but rides like a car which is 95% of my driving. I used to be a die hard GM guy but sadly, they got complacent and are now a sub-par manufacturer across most of their platforms.
I went from a first gen Tundra D/C to the Tundra. Cabin is same size. At 6’2” and 200 lbs rear seat has more leg room. Loved my Tundra but they have frame rot issues so nothing is perfect. Once you agree to give up man card and realize that this thing is probably the most practical and honest use of what most people need you will buy one. I can still haul my lumber, drywall and tools. But that’s once or twice a month. It’s not perfect but than neither am I. Honest review, thanks. Waiting to see what other changes you make besides the level kit. Enjoy.
that man card case is definitely the same with me. i know i don’t really need a full size but i just want to have that image of “a real man”. ridge line is always talked down on but i know i really only need good cabin space. and the ridge line has that.
I grew up in half ton trucks and "real" suvs, having learned to drive in both my dad's manual transmission/manual hub Chevy K truck and Scout. After years of driving "real" trucks, my cousin bought a Ridgeline, which I sneered at. He challenged me to show him one single thing I did with my truck (Silverado at the time) that his Ridgeline couldn't do. This prompted me to evaluate my needs and realize that the biggest trailer I owned was within the Honda's capabilities, and my off-road needs were things that at worst required 4hi with no lockers, meaning the Honda easily handled those too. I am now on my second Ridgeline, and plan to buy another after this one gets too old for my taste. I would like to see another mid-sized unibody to spice things up, now that compact ones are becoming a thing. I would love to see the Durango or an Explorer, for example, done in the Ridgeline style. Explorer SporTrac comback anyone?
I had a 2017 Ridgeline that I just change for my second Ridgeline 2023. Since 1984 I only have Toyota truck. When I try Honda ridgeline in 2017 I said to myseft this my truck now. More fun to drive, confortable and economic.
Thanks for your input ! For months I was all in on new Frontier, very quiet inside, that was nice surprise. Liked the trucky look. But winter snow and ice, going back to part time 4x4 kept gnawing at my brain. Rear end slip-sliding around, having to flick 4x4 knob on and off. For in town gray geezer not wishing to pull anything, mostly just haul an e-bike that weighs about 80 lbs with gear, the Frontier was overkill and larger turning radius, less power to the steering, not exactly optimal. In a matter of just two weeks, once I determined enough front legroom in Ridgeline, I totally switched to Ridgeline Black Edition fully loaded, is time for some coddling comfort on the roads of life. Good stereo, no fumbling with keys, cooled ventilated seats, heated steering wheel I’ve found I love when driving wife’s car. For myself, mostly FWD bias and heavy motor over those wheels, and a fully automatic solid kick in of the rear, is a good thing on snow and ice. Ridgeline sits at a really nice height, do not need a step ladder to get in. I look forward to rolling quite smoothly and with quiet roomy cabin on down the highways of life. Ridgeline looks to hit an overall sweet spot.
Agree on the Ram, best full size truck I have ever owned but I too am getting to where I don't need a full size crew cab anymore. Still need to drive a truck only smaller. The Honda looks like the best choice.
I owned soooooo many hot rods trucks lifted trucks cars SUV’s vans you name it. I even had a Previous 2020 Ridgeline SOLD IT Got myself into another FULL SIZE LIFTED CHEVY SILVERADO because I’m a heavy machine operator/ Semi Tractor Driver The Ridgeline didn’t feel MANLY. What do you know ?? I got tired of driving my lifted Chevy as a daily commuter and got tired of taking half my weekend day to clean the darn thing. I just recently bought myself another Honda Ridgeline 2022 Black Edition. OUT OF ALL THE LIFTED TACOMAS AND COLORADOS MID SIZE TRUCKS I OWNED. BY FAR THE HONDA RIDGELINE IS THE VERY BEST IN ITS LINE. FOR ALL THE COMFORT AND STORAGE SPACE THEY GIVE YOU. Not even Tacoma has the storage capacity in the middle nor on the doors. They don’t even give you remote start nor power sliding rear windows. Not even a sunroof that the Honda Ridgeline Gives You. Awesome Video Brother. God Bless 💯 👊🏽🤙🏽😎🏄🏽♂️
I am in the same boat as you sir and purchased new 2022 last March and love it. You are spot on with your review! One thing I would add that honda needs to upgrade their infotainment system, it’s way behind in the RL.
I preordered a Maverick Hybrid in 2021 and it has yet to be produced. Ford has really let me down so I've been looking for a used Ridgeline that doesn't break the bank. Hope you enjoy your Ridgeline and use it in good health.
I appreciate your insight as an owner. I currently daily drive a 2018 Accord, but as a home owner I find myself needed more utility sometimes. This may be my next vehicle.
I have a 2020 Sport, because I needed a daily commuter, that can pull a trailer, with a backup camera! I wanted something the wife & I can get in & out of easily, since we are in our mid 70’s. Mostly I haul groceries, and the wife! It’s great for backing out of parking lots, without hitting anything or anyone! I love not having to screw with a gas cap! Are there better trucks, it depends on what you need! I’m not afraid of buying any or the new trucks, but, I don’t have any cravings for a new truck! Bought a cover for the back, window dressing from Weathertec, and something to stand on, getting in & out of the truck. The back doors open wide enough to use the backseat storage area. The in bed trunk locks from the inside, and the windows can open from the key fob, just like starting the truck, remotely. I can put a full sized tissue box inside the center storage. It has bed lights inside the bed, and a plug adapter in the bed. Has a wide bed floor, for plywood laying flat on the bed. Comes with a great built in towing package, that is easy to guide, with 3 different views. I can actually back up to any yellow line, and see how close I’m to the car behind me. Love having lane distance monitoring. But my favorite is, driving through 12” of snow, without spinning my wheels! That’s all original rubber. I got a set of floor mats, for good measure! I’m sure I forgot something, but looking for an excuse to hit the road with my truck, isn’t one of them. My wife’ car is a Prius, that’s why I need a truck! Love both of them!
Exactly why I chose the Ridgeline as well. It rides better than my Mercedes ML 550. I havnt had to beg my son (F150 he waited over a year for a part and was at the dealer to go to the dump since. lol Love my ‘22 as well.
I've got a 2021 SPORT and the ONLY complaint I have is the infotainment system in pretty outdated but with Apple Carplay / Android Auto it means I don't use Honda's own interface too much. I'm sure the new Honda interiors will make their way into the Ridgeline soon enough. That underbed trunk and tailgate swing-out never fails to attract attention form people in parking lots.
My previous pickup was a ram 1500. In 2021 I bought a Ridgeline for daily putting around, it’s a nice comfortable all wheel drive. I will probably have it for a long time.
DB, great review 👍 I am on my second Ridgeline. My first was a 2017, RTL-T. It was totaled back in February of this year when a distracted driver ran a stop 🛑 sign, hit the LR side of the truck spun me around and head-on into a concrete wall, truck only had 20K miles. All airbags deployed, thankfully no injuries, just seatbelt bruised. Now I own the same exact vehicle as yours. 2022, RTL in Lunar Silver Metallic. I salvaged from my 17, running boards, and a Retrax tonneau cover. I’ve replaced ALL of the incandescent bulbs, inside and out, with LEDs. Regarding the “annoying” start-stop technology. I found that when you’re on A/C mode it does not engage the start/stop. The trick is the “fan” speed button has to stay on, you can turn off the separate A/C button, but leave the fan on. Hope this makes sense. I had the after market start-stop deactivating devise, it worked fine. However, I did not like that it caused an amber icon to light up in the dashboard. Thanks for sharing
I have a '22 RTL-E, and one thing that bugs me is that all the exterior lights are not LED. Headlights & taillights/brakelights are, but turn signals are still old school incandescent. When you say you replaced all of the non-LED bulbs, does that include turn signals, and if so, what bulbs did you use? One of the problems you may run into when replacing incandescent with LED turn signal bulbs is the potential for hyperflashing due to the voltage difference. Just curious as to what you did....and glad to hear you walked away from that crash!
@@JamesFontayne James, you will need resistors for the FRONT amber turn signal bulbs. I bought and returned several sets that advertised “no resistors needed”, they ALL lied, you need them. The resistor wires go in-line on to the positive and ground wires (if I recall the colored wire is positive - DOUBLE CHECK THOUGH) I’d say the toughest part was finding a mounting location where to mount the resistors. You HAVE TO mount them to a metal surface, NO PLASTIC surface, they get real hot, it’s normal. I mounted mine to a horizontal brace I found up in the inner fender. Below I listed the parts. I included red bulbs for rear stop 🛑 and white for backup (Note my instructions for the backups). Maybe your RTL-E came with LEDs back there, my RTL did not. @@LAP1050 Thanks for the info, that's really helpful. Sounds like you have quite a bit of electrical wiring experience! I do have one question...you said replacing the front turn signal bulbs with LEDs would require installing resistors, but would I still need resistors if I only replaced the rear turn signal bulbs with LEDs and kept the incandescents in front?
@@JamesFontayne Hi james, not really a wiring wiz. Like many of us just like to tinker and learn from what RU-vidrs post. Answer to your question on resistors. I did not use resistors for the rear stop lights and they worked without hyper flashing. Is your email on your channel page? If so, I can send you pictures or short video of the taillight sockets and bulb I used.
Great review, as your rationales align with my own, in why I purposefully chose the 2022 Ridgeline. I additionally considered the midsize to accommodate my arthritis and knee injuries that I have acquired, in getting in/out of a truck. Another midsize pickup benefit for me is that I can park the truck in my garage and avoid the ice and snow accumulation in winter; unlike a full-size pick up. It's the ideal truck/car experience that I hoped it would be.
Being able to put it in the garage is one of my top must-haves. ha Ha, 30 years ago I could have vaulted myself from the ground into a p/u bed, now just stepping up into a full-size is an issue.
I really like the Ridgeline "concept." I had the old style, 2007 RTL, and loved it. Wished I had kept it. I like the news ones, too, but I HATE the AT push buttons. I had it in my 2019 Passport and did NOT like them. I search for a well maintained, low mileage 2019 Ridgeline (Black or RTL-E), the last model year that had the console gear sifter mechanism. Overall, the Ridgeline is a great truck for 85 percent of truck buyers...just wish Honda would ditch the push buttons AND give us the Canadian Touring model bells and whistles here in the US.
If a person wants a, "do it all" vehicle, the Ridgeline is worthy of consideration. I'm a 1 vehicle person, and the Ridgeline is a perfect fit for my lifestyle, age, & situation. I bought a '23 Black Edition and it absolutely provides everything I could ask from a vehicle. My only criticism is (as others have mentioned) is the push button transmission. Honda, are you listening?! Thank you for the review, it's appreciated! Cheers!
Great video! Thank you. Love the payload on Ridgelines compared to real world payload on many other mid-size trucks. We do a lot of towing, but our Casita travel trailer only weights 2,900 lbs loaded. The RL is on our shortlist. Buying at the end of 2024. Lots great options in the midsize segment.
You can never go wrong with Honda Ridgeline. As a previous RL owner myself... 100% agreed with your assessment. Best midsize truck. Now owning Toyota Tacoma, love it as much as RL. Both have it own personality. Great choice
I’ve had three Tacomas and loved them I now have a ridge-line and what you’ve said is true. When I owned a Tacoma I did like the dynamic cruise much more than Hondas version it operated much better. The road noise is less in the Honda but owning the Tacoma wasn’t bad at all. The best part of the ridgeline is the suspension and maneuver ability. When taking the truck on dirt or rocky roads the taco is much better but if your mainly on dirt roads or streets the ridgeline is better. I would go back to a taco but the dealers are true a holes and the service was terrible.
Taco owner here too. I LOVE mine. I did, briefly, look at the Ridgeline but not very seriously. That being said, you can NEVER, ever, ever go wrong buying a Honda anything.
Great review with all same reasons I traded my 20 Ram 1500 crew Laramie for a 23 Ridgeline RTL E, it's just a good truck size for my needs love the quiet ride and handling
I absolutely loved mine. Loved the smooth ride. Hated it having a belt vs a chain, and the outdated interior especially the screen and the lame seatbelt warning chime.
I have a 2008 and love it, so much so I'll keep it until I die. Has been rated best truck overall by Consumer Reports for many years. Sorry real truck fans, its just true.
I love my 2021 Ridgeline RTLe. After test driving all the competition - Toyota, Chevy, Ford, it was the obvious choice with way more options for the money , options that the others just don't offer. And I get 24 mpg overall - which is way better than all others.
Thanks for the review! I’ve had 2 F150 FX4s that were great but a little big for our daily use- but I loved the powerful V8 acceleration…The Ridgeline looks like a good option if it’s got good pull off the line.
I've got a '19 with the Sport trim and low mileage. I love it and I don't see parting with it anytime soon. It tows a small camper and allows our 2 dogs a LOT of room with the back seats folded up. Sum it up in one word: "Smooth"
Slowly have come around to the styling. They are starting to look a little more chiseled which I like. Ridge line checks a lot of boxes and I am very much considering. Great video
I have the 2017 Ridgeline Ang get about 2pm-good in the city and 28mpg on the highway at an avg of 72mph, I also have about 350# of stuff in the trunk all the time. I can’t praise my truck enough over the last 37500 miles. This will probably run for many more miles before I trade it in!
Interesting how the haters don't seem to get that Hondas intent was not to build an F150. The same people would complain that a Ford Escape is not an Expedition so apparently not worth buying.
I’d love to see a video of loading up your quad and tying it down. I have a ram now and that’s mainly what I use it for and am considering switching to a Honda
Wish the bed was one foot longer. Wish the interior guage ckuster and infotainment was updated. Wish it had a timing chain and not a belt that requires maintenance every 60-100k miles Other than that it’s amazing. The 2022 Ridgeline are all AWD tho. Not fwd.
New truck prices are insane! The Ridgeline isn't cheap but their year over year price increases have been reasonable. you get a lot for the money. Enjoy...
I went thru the same experience with mid sized trucks. I ended up buying a pre-certified 2023 RLT. Mine included the HPD package, that doesn't add anything, so I was able to have that cost removed. I have had it less than a month, but so far, I am totally satisfied with the truck.
Thanks for your review. You pointed out the rear step on the bumper, the fact that you can fit a 4 wheeler in the bed, and that I need to put a couple of chairs in the trunk! I just got a 2020 CPO 50K miles RTL-E for $32.5. I've had it for three weeks and I love it. Big step up from a 2005 Toyota Sienna. Thanks again for your time making this video. I didn't know I was getting Trunk Bed Audio, but I love it.
Thanks for watching. Trunk bed audio, heated steering wheel, navigation and rear seat USB charging. Wish I had them but couldn't spend the extra 4 grand for the RTL-E. a bonus for you!
@@DB-ph5vkI got really lucky, because I wasn't expecting the 2020 to have the trunk bed audio, the heated steering wheel, the sunroof. I definitely scoffed at those options when I looked at the new 2023. ($4K! I don't need that stuff!!)
Driving a Ram 1500 Classic now and while I love the ride and utility its big, almost too big. Not fun to climb in and out, park or in traffic but on the highway its reassuring and quiet. I'll probably hang on to it but its a compromise for sure.
You missed the boat on the front wheel drive first feature. It was a smart thing for Honda to gamble on that feature. Maybe you don’t get much snow where you’re from. I only use 4WD mode about 3 times per year. And only because I have it. Front wheel drive makes 4WD unnecessary. Can’t even compare the performance with a rear wheel drive vehicle. The Ridgeline is the best all around vehicle I ever owned. Secondly if you ever changed body mounts on full sized truck or van you’d appreciate the attached full frame of a Ridgeline. I own a 08 with 220k miles. Body mounts by now would be on the to do list for-sure. Oh yeah if you need rear wheel drive it’s solid, a locker.
Love my '21 RTL... I disabled the 2 things I hate about it... Auto Start/Stop and Variable Cylinder Management, before they both destroy my engine... At 65-70 mph I consistently get 27mpg and 20 around town... Much less when I pull my travel trailer but I cant complain about that...
Yep, disabled the VCM on my 2019 RTL-E also. I like it much better now as it would shudder and I thought something was wrong with the transmission...it was the goofy VCM. Very happy with mine. The 6 speed transmission is just fine also.
I'm glad you brought up the HPD package. Honda flooded their press fleet with base Sport models with HPD package and got so many RU-vid reviewers complaining about the cost and comparing it to a Tacoma for the same price. Honda really should have put the RTL-E or Black Editions for the press fleets and just sent press materials about the HPD package. Interesting how so few "journalists" mentioned these other packages and instead just pooped on the stripped down, overpriced HPD sports
Exactly..... If early reviews in 21' on the "Refreshed" Ridgeline would have been on the RTL or RTLE the press and the RU-vid world would have been raving about how much value was there. But as you mentioned, Honda was releasing base sport models with the HPD package that misleads people into thinking it has added off-road prowess (which it doesn't) and it does nothing but run the price up.
They're actually not bad overlanders, either. The IVTM-4 system is very capable, and with the 9 speed transmission, they have the same "crawl ratio" as a Tacoma in 4Hi.
@@docholliday6285 RU-vid didn't post my reply? Anyway, look up JonDZ Adventuring. He and a friend piloted the first AWD vehicles to summit Imogene Pass. Their vehicles were a Honda passport, and a Honda Ridgeline.
@@vlogfriendsutopia Honda makes an excellent AWD system (outperforms Subaru) but there is no substitute for a transfer case for serious off road. So the Honda will reach its limit before a Tacoma.
@@finerbiner Oh, no doubt. But literally everything I've ever seen anyone conquer in a Tacoma, save for rock crawling, has been totally doable in a newer Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is also going to be quicker 0-60, handle better on road, and you'll have much better interior space and comfort.
Its a great truck for sure! Love all the cool features. Drove this and the new 23 Tundra. The full size truck vs mid size compact is not comparable but what is crazy is the top spec Ridgeline I was looking at landed at $53k with racks, etc. I bought my 23 Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road for $56k. It was a no brainer with the 12k tow and huge interior. I think they will eventually make this more of a truck on the next gen which should be coming soon. Keep it up Honda as you can easily make this more beefy.
@@jasnfb3600 ...my tundra is 4x4 with locking rear diff. the Honda is AWD so gets the job done but looking for mileage efficiency vs power. My Tundra has nearly 500 lb of torque which is crazy.
I’m looking for a “Home Owners” Commuter Truck with good gas milage. Seems most of the competition trucks are designed for off-roading. I’ll wait for 2024 Ridgeline hoping the Hybrid is released. Thank you
We are now on our fourth Ridgeline, all which have been purchased used with anywhere from 33 to 80,000 km. The first was a 2007 purchased in 2010, second was a 2012 touring, the third was a 2020 touring and now driving a 2022 Touring. It was my wife that first wanted a Ridgeline. I was never sold on these “wanna be” trucks. We live out in a rural area and need to haul water, pull fifth wheel campers, gooseneck trailer’s therefore I drive a 3/4 or now a 1 ton pickup truck. She was determined to buy a Ridgeline and used the excuse that she seen one with a Honda quad in the back, so I could “haul mine with it if I wanted to”. Well after the first one we have enjoyed them all. The first two were driven a couple hundred thousand km each before we upgraded to a newer model. The only maintenance required, other than brakes and tires, is to get the timing belt replaced every 100,000 km(63,000 miles) to avoid a catastrophic engine failure. The third one(2020 black Touring), was to be our retirement vehicle but my wife was in an accident and wrote it off. She had a few bruises and needed to see a chiropractor but has fully recovered. The safety features of the Ridgeline are great, collision avoidance, multiple air bags all played a role to keep her safe. We are now enjoying our 2022 Touring which came with transferable OEM extended warranties as well as glass, rim & paint coverage. I have put on running boards, lockable tonneau cover, LED high beam and LED driving lights and a second set of studded winter tires. We plan to continue the activities that all the Ridgeline’s have done including towing the pontoon boat, hauling large items, traveling in comfort and whatever else is required. Great (ok, I’ll say it) truck!
Wow! what a great testimonial for the Ridgeline. I hope mine gives me such great service. Sadly for 2024 Honda eliminated the folding armrests which I love and they have stamped RIDGELINE into the tailgate steel which I don't like but it shouldn't be a deal killer for anyone. Cheers..... and thanks for watching
Great video. I recently got one myself and I love it, perfect daily driver, only thing I wish the stereo system was better, it's one of the worse stock sounding systems in my opinion. other than that awesome truck
I like the silver. When I was looking for mine the silver wasn’t available anywhere. I ended up getting black, which was our second choice. The silver looks great tho!
The infotainment is very outdated, same as it was in 2017 model. No wireless apple car play. The cylinder deactivation makes it stumble on the highway. I bought a kit that bypasses the cylinder deactivation and stop start. Drives much better.
Yep, good idea to defeat the variable cylinder management and auto stop/start to save your engine. Also need to decarbon the intake system around every 25,000 miles as you would with any GDI engine to keep the intake valves from becoming carbon caked. To hit EPA standards today’s modern engines need a lot of TLC
I got mine in 2019. I agree with every point you made. I drive normal to easy and get ~23 local and as much as almost 30 mpg hiway. Only wish I got leather. Great report.
TY for the video pushed me more towards the Ridgeline to be honest. Im looking for a new vehicle and this time its gonna be a truck. That said I wont really use it as a truck.. I wont be off roading but it will go off the road from time to time to get to a fishing or hunting spot, down a old logging road to get to deer camp, done a rutted single lane road to get to a fishing hole. Across a farm field to get a deer to take to get processed. but nothing serious.. I dont tow or haul anything that would come even remotely close to taxing its weight limits.(Kayak or John Boat with a electric motor) Mulch, wood for campfires at the fire pit, maybe a refrigerator or dryer back from a big box store, some red rock for the driveway/// I just want something with a bed to do these things as not to destroy the interior of my 2020 Forester..Oh sure ive laid down a tarp put all the seats down and went to get my firewood... and I was still cleaning up, bark, twigs, spiders, a mystery bug ive never seen before (or 2) out of my SUV interior for the next 3 months...so why not grab something with a bed.. I also need storage for 75% of the year(March-November) for my fishing gear I keep 2 rods and a backpack/tackle kit and equipment in my vehicle the entire time.. in a truck I need someplace to out that thats not laying in the bed.. it needs to be out of the way// in the Ridgeline thats the trunk under the bed OR under the seat... Some of these other trucks im finding storage room issues with as their under the seat storage is small and divided and probably not enough for the rods let alone rods and backpack I have the Ridgeline(2023/23 under 10k CPO im looking for) Frontier-one of my favorite looking trucks currently9this is based on looks only) Tacoma(new) on my list- this is new and popular enough i doubt i get it as very few deals will be found I fear. Your review helped me realize...i probably dont need more than the Ridgeline.
Still have my 2019 Ridgeline Sport. Just the basic's but one of the better trucks I have owned. Bought alot of honda models for years and this was my first Ridgeline. They will last longer than most trucks out there with few problems. Maybe later I'll upgrade, The 2024 Trailsport is a good start, but I think Honda is still testing the market for offroad. But still love my 2019 with 45,000 miles and smooth ride.
I have a 2021 RTLE and coming from 2 Tacomas over the years, the number one thing about the Ridgeline is drivability and stability. The Ridgeline is very stable and smooth. on wet pavement I cannot spin the wheels no matter how hard I try. The Tacoma was a solid well built Truck but was prone to slip and slide on wet pavement and steering was much looser especially at high speeds. The only 2 negatives with the Ridgeline is timing belt and the collision avoidance can’t be sensitive at times. Other than that the Ridgeline suits my driving needs much better than the Tacoma. Plus RTLE very good sound system, sunroof, rear sliding window, much more comfortable interior and seats. Awesome trunk bed. Go test drive one and you understand!!!
@@Flaco4488 just having to be replaced every 100,000 miles which is not a huge issue. The Honda 3.5 V6 is one of the few cars still using belts and not chains
We have a 21’ RTL. Like it except for the variable displacement and start/stop (start stop can be temporarily disabled). Worst of all is that #!¥% push button shifter. I loathe it. The rest of the truck is solid, but hate that shifter enough to not do another if it has it.
I drove one and I loved it. I already own an MDX so I was not surprised. But, I live on the front range and need a transfer case. So, I opted for a 4runner. Love the truck, hate the 5 speed.
I too thought Honda had superior reliability. Now, however, I certainly can't recommend a Honda after my daughter's experience with her 2016 Honda Odyssey. The car developed a serious engine miss at 67,000 miles. The problem was with the variable cylinder management system. We researched the problem before calling the dealer. It turns out that Honda settled a Class Action lawsuit for Honda V-6 models from 2008-2013. The settlement provided free maintenance for this problem. However, Honda apparently did not solve the problem. She talked with the dealer and with the district office in Atlanta. No help at all. The repair cost was over $4,000 which they paid and then traded the vehicle since the dealer could not give any assurance the problem would not happen again. I would now never recommend any late model V-6 Honda with the variable cylinder management system. This system was introduced to improve fuel mileage but it is a guarantee of engine failure. Honda ain't what it used to be. Stay away from the Honda V-6.
You have the same exact reasons why I bought my 2020 Ridgeline (except my preference was not the boxy front end like all the other pickups, which is why I had to buy a used 20). I just wish it had the 360 birds eye view like my Spinter and Chevy Bolt. I almost pulled the trigger on a Rivian, but it was just a little too much money.
I’ve heard that comment on another video and the guy said: “If you’re planning to haul something difficult to unload quickly like mulch or a load of drywall, then get your spare tire and Jack out ahead of time”. That’s a pain but it’s a solution
@@DB-ph5vk Heh, sad to say I haven't really thought of that. That would be a pain, though now, the one major flaw I had for the Ridgeline is no longer a detriment.
FYI there is a mounting point for the spare in the bed. You can see a small plug just below the rear window and towards the driver's side. You use the thumb screw that secures the spare in the trunk to secure spare standing upright below the rear window. Jack and tools can go inside under the rear seat. This can help depending on how long your cargo is.
I am between a Ridgeline and an F150.. I know the ridgeline will last longer and probably be less problematic, but the 5.0 F150 is also a very nice truck.. both can be purchase lightly used for the same amount.
Well, I guess it all comes down to what you want the truck for. If you need to do serious truck stuff on a regular basis or need to haul more than 5,000 lbs on regular basis then buy an F-150. If you want a lower step-up height, smoothest ride and best fuel economy on a daily basis then buy the Ridgeline if you're only doing truck stuff once in a while. it's easier to park in a parking lot too.
