This quick video explains why I changed my Mackie Control for a ICON QCON Pro X. Both are controlers for DAWs and give similar fonctions. iconproaudio.co... Audio from tascam.com/prod... www.mprimeau.com
if something whistles in an electronic circuit after a long while of use it is usually related to a coil which is not properly dampened anymore and thus swings. Buying a new device is both an option and a waste of money if this would be it. I would open it, find the corner where it whistles by ear and put some electronic silicon or uv-glue on all coils. -problems solved for much less money and - hey- The environment says thanks to lesser rubbish.. ;)
Thanks for you comment Andy. I didn't get time to do it yet but I still have the unit and I plan of doing a video on the diagnostic.. Being busy gets us buying stuff even if we could be able to repare them.. Those whistle noises is often a dried or bumped capacitor.. Thanks !
Faders are noisy because they move extremely fast on opening project. You will never move faders on automation so fast because you can't, so it won't be noisy
Mine was making an extremely high pitched noise, extremely disconcerting. And then I realized that the midi interface it was hooked up to was routing midi to a synth. It's happily isolated now. Mentioning it in case someone runs into similar. Cheers.
Yeah that can happen.. I had a similar issue where the midi data was picked up by RME Totalmix FX, the realtime mixer of my interface.. Some button on the controler would reset all the levels in the headphone mixes.. ;)
I think that the high pitched sound can be from a caps in the PSU or such, had a monitor that sounded like that,..so i checked it and it was a soldier that just needed to be soldierd on one of the caps,..then it disapeared,....I am looking on the Icon unit and it seems a real good unit,..so it leans about to purchase one, Thanks for shareing,..and wish you luck =) Love cheers
They are on the side because they would be too high otherwise. Strait or on the side isn't a big deal as long as the point between the tweeter and speaker is at ear level. That's why we see numerous big mixers with nearfield monitors on the side on top of the meter bridge like those : www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fhomestudiomagic.com%2Fshould-tweeters-be-on-the-inside-or-outside-and-why%2F&psig=AOvVaw1OBCWljhPatThBmJNLJRG3&ust=1623278705728000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCOjZ2MaOifECFQAAAAAdAAAAABAK
I didn't experience this problem. When working with a dense mix, I had a few hesitation when push play or record.. but they were due to latency. Please check my review to have more info, things I liked and those I didn't ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Fb3T92-8z4.html
The noise from the Mackie is likely coming from the transformer which sits in the circuit for the display backlight. There are replacement LED displays available which bypasses the need for that transformer.
Thanks Karl ! I didn't get to it yet.. I eventually need to open it and pinpoint the problem and evaluate if I work on it or not.. My electronic knowledge is limited.. but some parts are easy to change.. we'll see. ;)
@@MarcoPrimeau Thanks, that would be awesome as I'm a samplitude user :) and I'm working in docu post production for TV so I need to know how automation is working when moving several faders in same time. Cheers!
@@MarcoPrimeau Another thing I wanna know is if we can give other functions to the 8 rec buttons ( I don't need rec button) like cut, paste or anything we want via midi learn in customize mackie control option in Samplitude (like in mackie hui mode)? And for the 8 F MAckieControl 's keys too?
@@raoulrascal8045 By default it uses mackie control but depending on the DAW, you can certainly customise what buttons do. For exemple, I changed some of the marker keys to do Add punch in and punch out marker instead of just going to the marker number...
Your comparison has no fundamentals since you are comparing a very OLD model of the Mackie with a very NEW model of the Icon. The new models of the MCU Mackie are much reliable by far from the Icon Qcon.
Thanks for your comment Eduardo. The only reason for making this video was to explain why I switched.. If anyone has a new mackie controler, they won't consider changing it anyway... I agree that Mackie is more reliable and I don't think I stated otherwise in the video. Just that mine was very old and I was seduced by the meterbridge of the Qcon ;)
@@wilfordwilliams7605 it's been nice specially recently.. Icon put out a new firmware which fixed many glitches I had. The sad thing is, they want to sell you new overlays. Since I'm stubborn and didn't want to pay more for a firmware on a 1k device. So I installed the new firmware and personnalised all the buttons that were changed places. . . The only thing left is, I need to power it up once windows is booted (a minor thing) I will probably make a video on this soon ;)
@@wilfordwilliams7605 I doubt that it isn't working.. Those controlers uses Mackie control setups via midi and they do have a reason overlay.. thing is, it's midi.. so you could assign any button to any midi note which the software recognise... Do you have the controler or planning to ?
I don't think that they've made an overlay for Vegas which is a video software and not really dedicated to audio mixing. That said, all the settings are customisable, you could adapt it yourself...
