Do you have a brand of camera you've found yourself leaning toward?

I bought my first Fuji camera because the salesman suggested it. I was trying to buy a canon or Sony and I mentioned how before 2019 all I used was an old Kodak film camera and a Kodak digital camera. He showed me the Fuji x-t30 and I haven’t regretted the choice. It’s not a perfect system but I love the colors that come out of it. Plus the retro look and feel make it a great experience for me at least.

Sounds like the salesman really listened to you. I haven’t tried the X-T30 but have heard good things. After all this time and these cameras, I suspect I can pick up any Fujifilm X-Series camera and get those lovely colors.

The X10 was my first Fuji camera also and I absolutely loved its size and form factor. I carried it everywhere and did several 365 projects with just that camera alone. Many years later and I'm still shooting Fuji and cannot see myself changing systems. Fuji cameras just 'fit' me somehow.

I greatly enjoyed your video. It did feel like I was having a conversation with you. I too bought an x100v last March off of ebay and paid much more than retail for it, which I don't regret. I bougt it for my upcoming vacation trip to Italy later in the summer. I've been a Nikon shooter for many years and my D500 with 18-300 lens was just too big for the trip. I needed the time before the trip to learn the Fuji system which is much different than Nikon. I've come to love the V and now am struggling with whether I want to go all in with Fuji or keep what I have for now. My experience with Fuji is very similar to yours, so thanks for sharing.

Thank you for that wonderful feedback, it honestly means the world to me. The X100V is a gateway drug into Fujifilm 😁

Great video. I find myself wanting to return to another camera system for the user experience as well but I'm fighting the notion that "full frame is the only way to go!" Mucha appreciated video

Like you I also got tons of different cameras over the years before settling on Fuji. The X-T was my first and the X-T5 my current. Actually I have some others too (X-T100 and 50S II), but the X-T5 is my main one. The X-T5 is almost perfect for me. If I could make magical changes to it, the only one I would make is to switch the x-trans sensor for a bayer sensor, that would make it perfect.

Sounds like you know exactly what you want. Honestly I don’t even know what you’re referring to so I’ll take your word for it.

I have a similar experience. As a frame of reference, most of my photography is for 'travel'. My first digital camera was the Nikon D7100. While it was a 'good' camera, I never bonded with it. I eventually realized the reason why...too big, too heavy, especially carrying two or more lenses. And this was a smaller Nikon --- APS-C. When I had a big travel planned, I knew it was time to find a system that was light, small, with professional features. At that time, the X100T was released. It was the latest iteration of the series, and while I was concerned about it having a fixed lens, I made the plunge. Sold my Nikon gear. No regrets. No more DSLRs. I loved the X100T...it's colors, professional features, and very small, light form. It served me well for years. But...eventually I found that I wished I had more lens versatility. Plus, I found I rarely used the optical view finder. I still have my X100T...I can't part with it, and I use it on occasion. It's only real limitation is its 16mp sensor and fixed lens. So I bought the X-T30. Again, small and light, 26mp sensor. At the same time I added the smaller, lighter lenses, and heavy, large 55-200. I rarely carried the 55-200 , but it's met my needs when I didn't have to carry it all day. I've added a couple of small primes since then, in keeping with my small and light philosophy. Then the X-T5 was announced: 40mp, IBIS, better autofocus, ISO dial, bigger EVF. To me, it was the worthiest upgrade in the X-T series. I bought it as soon as it was available. It's not perfect for me. It's bigger and heavier than the X-T30. But, I accept the compromise using smaller, lighter lenses. In all other ways it fulfills my expectations. This camera will serve me for many years. Plus, when I want to go small, I have my X100T and X-T30....still great cameras. The Canikonys are excellent cameras. I fault no one for buying them. But Fujifilm has won me over, and I have no reason to change.

Totally agree! I wish Fujifilm would keep the smaller system in mind when designing new lenses though. Funny thing about the fixed lens on the X100 line, I swear by it now for learning to use your camera better. Removing that choice helps a person learn the other functions. But it’s that same fixed lens that eventually becomes the limitation holding you back as you grow. It’s an excellent learning camera and a great gateway drug for Fujifilm.

You are obviously a vintage aficionado. How do I know. Turn around and just look at that old Mac behind you!! There's your proof! LOL! I remember when those were new. I got into Fuji after a lot of research and shopping. I felt like it had the best performance for the price at the time. And, the used market was good for lenses. When I looked at other brands, the body alone cost more than what I paid for my initial, barely used X-T3 kit with the 18-55 and some other goodies. I have since added two more barely used lenses that I got for great prices during the time when the new bodies were released. I got the xf90mm and the xf56mm(version 1.0) for great prices. The 56 was only six months old from the original owner. Still had the balance of the warranty. Everything I've bought so far still had the original box and wrapping. They were basically like new. Finally, the last camera I had before the X-T3 was a Ricoh film camera from 1984. I still have it. But, when I saw the top dials it seemed familiar. I've been really happy with the camera and the lenses. I also got some vintage lenses I've adapted for fun. Not sure what if anything will come next, but for now the X-T3 is more than enough camera for me. Have a great week!

Hey, that Mac still boots up and works! My kids are mystified by it. That’s a good point, I forgot to mention the price. Much more reasonable than other brands.

@@ChrisFreitag That's cool that it still boots. Our drafting department at work had them. That was back in 1984ish. I remember getting our first IBM XT. It was only for patient data from the chemistry analyzers we manufactured. The funny part is that it had a 20 Mb hard drive and we thought nobody would ever need that much capacity. LOL!

I also love Fuji's system, nice vid. One note - your video framing is very uncomfortable with your head right in the middle taking up too much space. I would brush up on video framing and composition if you're going to focus on your channel.

Thanks for watching! If you view any of my other videos, you’ll see I like to play with the space, with different focal lengths. In this video I went with sitting down and a 23mm to get in tighter because it was more like a fireside chat. Just trying it out, I mostly use the 16-55 2.8 for the videos and closer to the 16mm focal length.
