Got an 08 sporty 1200c. My first bike and a deal of a lifetime, had 640 miles, 1 small scratch. Was garage kept after being bought at auction. Paid 2000 flat and it starts right up
I'm 65, mild spinal cord injury, and after riding Road/Street Glides, and my chopped Dyna, my 2001 Xtra-Light1200C absolutely rocks! Great choice, and yeah, even I, in hard times, rode a Yamaha cruiser, knowing damned well I'd be back on a Harley, sooner or later.
Spinal cord injuries and TBI. I sold my 2012 FLHTK because I lost confidence in riding it. But I just mostly finished rebuilding a 1997 Sporty 1200C that belonged to my ex-father-in-law and love it. So much easier to manuever.
Love the video thanks, I've one very similar arriving later today. It did make me laugh though... When you said 'wow, it'll do 80' I'm getting one because it'll only do 80 ! I'm coming from a Honda vtr1000 that'll do 110 and still have two gears left. I'm at a time in my life where I need to slow down and chill ☺
I always bought import bikes in the past because they were cheap. Over a year ago I found a 2005 sportster 1200 xl for sale and just happened to have that saved. I got on it test drove it and WOW what a difference. Do not reve this bike up much at all takes off like a rocket. Lots of good torque. Fell in love with the ride and sound. Stock everything. it flat moves. no strain at all. I am keeping this one. put Amsoil v twin oil in it , it now runs much cooler and peppier as if it needed that. Great easy to ride bike, I agree with you on this one for sure.
I have a 96 1200 custom sportster n picked it because there are tons of mod options so I can make it mine, also went with an older bike to avoid fuel injection I think carb bikes r more classic idk,, the sportster life is real lol !!!
Got a 2006 1200C and a few 1000cc Iron Heads, the 1200C is definitely a road/highway only scoot, it weighs tons more than the iron heads and is much harder to control on slick roads, gravel, and wet grass, whereas the Iron Heads have less power, sound more bad ass, and eat-up gravel and mud roads like a dirt bike!
Great video and sweet bike. I own a 1998 Sportster 1200 Custom 95th Anniversary edition. I love it. Super easy to work on and customize. I just installed the arlen ness big sucker and rejetted the carburetor along with the EZ adjust mixture screw. Runs great.
Sweet bike. I have a 05 1200c and I love it. Plenty of power. Last time I dyno tested it. It was around 79 horsepower. And 83 torque. With aftermarket pipes and air cleaner. Mine is carburetor too. Keep riding man.
Sporster customs and lows come witg 45 gallon tank. The 48 i beliece comes with a 2.1 gallon tank and other sposrtster modeks I believe come with a 3 gal tank.
That's one nice bike! What kind of gas mileage you get compared to the 600? I would defiantly like to put a leg over one of those. Only drawback of my Vulcan 500 from the rebel is my lean angle has decreased. I really lean over (spirited riding lol) to my left I scrape my kickstand. How's that one and the VLX in curves?
I had a Honda VLX600 back in '95 and '96. I rode it on the freeway all the time. I got a Sportster because I wanted the Harley feel and sound, which the VLX totally lacked. I also wanted to get rid of tube type tires. I had several bikes with tube type tires, and they were constantly leaving me stranded. I ran up a huge tow bill. I made sure I got a Sportster with tubeless tires. I now have two 1200 Sportsters, a 1997 and a 2006. I also have a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. I am now 62, and will be riding Harleys for the rest of my riding life. And they will be real Harleys, not M8s or the "new" so called Sportster, which is pure Japanese design. While the VLX only had 4 gears, it was geared as high as the engine could handle in fourth. It just had more space between gears, which I actually liked because it meant less shifting. I think a Sportster 1200 should have a 4 speed transmission. Leave top gear the same, just put more space between the lower gears. It certainly has enough torque that it doesn't really need a 5 speed. Hang on to that Sportster. The price on REAL Sportsters is about to go way up, and they are going to become hard to find. It would have been nice to actually see your Sportster.
Its just a bracket for any application but a ton of people use it for speedo relocations. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00062YWNI?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I can't decide whether to get a 1200 Custom (2007 to 2010) or a 1200 Roadster (2007). My brain tells me to buy a Roadster because it is more performance oriented: dual front discs, better suspensions, mid foot controls, greater lean angle; while my heart wants a Custom for the looks. As for the tank it is the opposite: I like better the classic peanut tank of the Roadster, but functionally the Custom's 4.5 gallon tank is obviously better for its fuel capacity. Can you tell me why you chose the Custom over the Roadster? Please help me decide!
I have a 2002 1200 xl I have put in Andrews N-4 cams, S&S Hi Fire ignition, V&H pipes and SE Air cleaner. My bike has 45,000 mi on it still runs great. Sportsters like to rev.
What year is it? I have a 2007 1200 custom.... awesome ride. Thinking about switching the handlebars from the stock ones it still has. Was considering zbars or mini apes like yours. Do you like the feel of those?
Mines a 2006 my bars are 12 inch narrow apes from tc bros. When riding my arms are straight out at shoulder height. I would say they are pretty comfortable.
I just purchased a 2006 Harley Davidson 1200 Low and I upgraded from a 2002 Honda Shadow VLX deluxe. I agree with you on the Harley has more than double the power and it has been one one amazing ride so far. I am definitely Harley for life at this point.
