As a Pulitzer Prize winner and former U.S. Poet Laureate, one might imagine creation comes easy for Ted Kooser, yet the exact opposite is true. Even with a lifelong devotion to writing, Ted still wakes at 4:30 am each day, sits down at his desk and does the work. While much of this drill will never be read by other eyes, it’s the process that must happen-a process of relating to human beings and creating work that will endure far beyond his years.
