Why I DO NOT WANT a CLEAN and TIDY house... 3 DAYS of Decluttering, Organizing, and Cleaning!

On a daily basis, I do not strive to have a clean and tidy home. I aim to have a home that is EASY to clean and EASY to tidy instead. After years of decluttering, I had to let go of my expectations that minimalism would make our home perpetually clean and tidy. Our home has messes because we live here and we love here. Striving for a home that is easy to clean and easy to tidy is better for me and for our family.

Simple Living
Decluttering is part of simple living for me. Living with less stuff makes life simpler in our house. However, simple living does not mean easy living. Simple living is about uncomplicating parts of your life. By decluttering, choosing your enough, and focusing intentionally on what matters most to you, a life of slow and simple living is possible.
Slow Living
A slow living lifestyle is sometimes perceived as an antidote to the effects of that fast paced life. Slow living is about balancing the things you want to do WITH the speed of life. Slowing down and embracing slow living is not about getting the same amount of things done at a slower pace. Rather, slow and simple living is about finding balance and living better in our fast paced world.

Hello, Erica. A second comment. I just turned 68 & my husband is 73. I cannot put myself in your shoes with the incredible mental, emotional & soul “load” you are carrying. Please accept my sincerest prayers & kindest regards to take you through the following weeks & on from there. You don’t know me & I only have an idea of you from your videos. From the first decluttering disaster video to now, you have been & are a motivator for me, and many others. You have helped me change things in my life. And I thank you for it. Best wishes to your son for his video interests, your daughter in her artwork, and your youngest in whatever he decides on. Thank you, Mr. Lucas, and your family for your service. My husband is a ‘Nam vet.

I had to smile when you asked for suggestions, you, girl, are the one others look to for help! Excellent job. You have come so far since I began to watch you. I'm in my 70's, am caring for a 97year old parent, having lost my dad 2 years ago at Thanksgiving. Mom lives a mile away, and I finally hired someone to clean for me every two weeks. Keeping up with Mom, her place, and mine, simply too much. A neighbor and friend who cleans just left...what a blessing she is to me!

Things that helped me. The dishes go directly in dishwasher after a rinse. Kids and parents do it each time. No food in bedrooms. Tools/clothes/laundry/ Coats/ Backpacks/books/ toys have a spot they go to once we come home. Vacuum house every week but kitchen dining area every evening after dinner is cooked before eating. Keep bathrooms clean as you go , deep cleaning every weekend. And mail , ditch junk mail as soon as it arrived and keep important mail in a basket to handle once a week. I used to do laundry only on weekends darks separated from whites by having 2 laundry baskets and kids separated the clothes right after their shower. To do list and shopping lists used to be on fridge too and a physical calendar with events /activities for kids or family. Now it is all digital. Also pickup and reset family room, living room, kitchen, dining room, before going upstairs to bed. Similarly reset bedrooms before going down each morning after shower. Basically reduce amount of effort for the weekly deep cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, mail handling by doing stuff everyday.

Good job momma finding an organized to keep on top of house. Yes it's good kids do help. I have 7 children and now 17 grandchildren and they help when they are here. I have 5 grandchildren who live with me and we quick pick up each evening and each morning before homeschool. And they help feed chickens, sheep and dogs on alternating days so it doesn't fall on just one person. Your boys are so adorable and helpful even if it takes a while playing and getting side tracked. You take care and give yourself grace with your family losses. My daughter passed a year ago leaving 3 young children. My heart is broken but I have to find the strength each day to get up and take care of these 5 grandchildren from my oldest daughter who is alive but struggling. So I put her in God's hands to stay strong and be able to be with her children again. Take care love your videos they give me motivation.

I just loved this video, esp your comments about seeing love not clutter in the daily messes. While watching, I: folded sheets, hung some laundry, cleaned the stove top and front, ran the dishwater, cleaned out the vegetable drawer (why did I let the asparagus disintegrate in there?), put away the drugstore items from yesterday in yhe bathroom, replaced the tp, found a few stray socks and such and put in the laundry bin, and took out the trash. I've been sewing lately and let things go. I live alone so I guess I've been loving my life while sewing and while re-setting my little apartment. I hope your family has a lovely Thanksgiving. I have 4 boys 11, 9, 7 and 4…we just started having each boy put their load of laundry in on a specific day first thing in the morning with their checklist. I LOVE it! It gets their laundry cycling and allows me to do extra loads during the day without their laundry needing to be done. Erica, I really like your approach to chores and scheduling when they are to be done, especially with the flexibility in case "stuff happens" like sickness, holidays, and other unexpected interruptions that come with family life. I once watched another channel in which the young mum was trying out various cleaning schedules but they were not very forgiving should an emergency arise. I told her, "you need a 'life happens' method." It looks like you have that.

Hi Erica, I loved this video, thank you so much for sharing your home with us. I love that you're real and this was a great motivational video on how you go about your home with your schedules and reset days. I use the FlyLady method which I do find helpful but sometimes I lack the time and motivation to do the weekly zones. I do love a clean tidy home though. Like you I homeschool so time can be limited and energy levels fade. I hope you have had a blessed thanksgiving with your family. I have followed you for sometime now but first time commenting. Blessings from New Zealand.

I recently set up a checklist similar to yours, although there are no kids in my home. I don't have the energy to do long periods of cleaning, so I broke it up to focus on an area or two daily. I use one day as a catch-up, to give myself grace for a bad day or unexpected disruption. I also have a "daily five" checklist! I keep my lists on the Sticky Notes feature of my computer, so I see them all the time. I used to make paper lists and then not look at them. You are doing a wonderful job, Erica. My house never looked that good when my kids were small.

You were talking about getting someone a few times a year to clean, do they do a good job. I’ve hired people to deep clean and I’m am guess I’m expecting to Much but they have never done what I expected them to

@@marykimble5214 I'm sorry to hear that! Lots of love to you ❣and please do not feel bad! that was never my intension ❣ My house is a mess, i'm not fealing well my self. What i do is fuck it all (or try to 😅) good enough is good enough. It the laundry liying to be fold, so be it. I have clean clothes, that for me is more imortant than folding them. Messy house, i don't (working on it) care, cause i spend my time and energy to the things that are more important, like playing with my children. And also this is different to everybody. But try to find what is important for you and find where you can en want to put you're energy of mental power to. One step every time. ( i hope this make sense, Englisch is not my first language. And i only mean love and help and a hand on you're shoulder. You got this and it is what it is)
