I really like your style of videos. You make it feel very candid and easygoing as opposed to other tech videos that inevitably end up sounding like news anchors.
Dieter, The Verge is nothing without you. You are the face of the verge. You are the Steve Jobs of the Verge. The Elon Musk of The Verge. You are Jesus Christ of The Verge
Theodor Zerbst OMG really? It's good that you compare him with Elon Musk and Steve Jobs, but that's why you compare it with Jesus Christ ...? Holy Divine Cross, that sounds irritating and at the same time offensive. I admire Mr. Bohn very much, but from there compare him with Jesus Christ, no, no and no! 🤦🏻♂️
So... Clearly Dieter heard about 'that' video gig I did at the end of last year. I would just like to point out that I was (mostly) able to edit around it. And since then no issues on more recent jobs. Also, I now have a whole bag full of extra cables and I am overhauling my streaming setup.
I'm a 3D artist, and this is totally the case in our field as well. Sure, work will go faster on my desktop with my drawing tablet and everything, but I've done plenty of last minute work on my Surface because it was the tech that was available and that I was familiar with. Great video!
I have! Pretty regularly. On a modern surface, it's a really nice experience until you have to do any heavy computational work like remeshing. The actual pen tablet experience is pretty fantastic though once you get used to the glossy screen
LAN Fan LAN Fan That's good to know. I currently use a macbook pro with either an intuos or cintiq which is a pain having to carry all that with me when I travel. The surface with a pen definitely looks to be a good replacement then!
I also liked the coding analogy. Im a physics student, so I also have to deal with some coding to numerically solve real world problems and the way you described it was so acurate. That way of thinking also helps with the regular physics stuff and heck, even in everyday life. Great video! Cheers.
I couldn't find the link to Dieter's "What's In My Bag," but here it is after Googling: www.theverge.com/2017/10/21/16504904/whats-in-your-bag-dieter-bohn. Important to note that Dieter is now using a much different kit than the previous story. He's running a Canon 80D or 70D now, not a Sony camera. He's got one of those Jobi tripods with the second edition of the Osmo gimbal. So, he's basically changed his entire video set up. Something both guys didn't talk about either is microphones. You've gotta have a good shotgun mic or wireless pack. Though, most of the videos Verge produces is filled with voiceovers and music laid underneath the voice tracks.
I thought Dieter was gonna end the video by saying "We all know what the lesson is here right? Ya gonna make me say it? Don't forget to bring your dongles"
I am using my Dell XPS 15 high specced on a daily basis, charger, smartphone and a backpack. This is my setup, sometimes i connect a logitech mouse to it.
I like how he pulled out all the stuff from his bag and never talked about them. I came here to know what stabilizer you use and you didn't mention it!
Dude, I know The Ghost And The Darkness is dated. But it's a good movie! And they weren't kidding about it being a true story. It's remarkably accurate!
Interesting reference to The Ghost And The Darkness; that was my first Rated R movie (followed by Starship Troopers) that I watched as a kid 😱 (born 1987)
That movie is a perfect example of why we should not go back in time and re-litigate pop culture. That movie was emblematic of that era and makes your use of it as a metaphor for readiness no less accurate. I watched the Dukes of Hazard.
That dongle is life!!! That sucks! I even hate carrying wires what more a bag for dongles. I'd go with device with lots of compatibility. That's professional work but i still can't take that bag of dongles. WTF!
Walkier nah Deiter basically needs two phones so he can keep up with both iOS and Android. It's basically his job, so a dual SIM for hone wouldn't do much for him.
Great video, guys. It was interesting to what gear tech guys carry with them. When Dieter said the word iPad at 3:09, did anyone else think back to the iPad 2018 review that he did, where he said the word, iPad, about 50 times in the video? That case with the dongles is why I cannot own apple products. I want all cords to a minimum and just seeing that case made me want to throw it. 3.mm headphone jack and charging cable. These are the only wires I'll allow when traveling or doing whatever. More than that and I'll go nuts lol
