When Tom Ford took over Gucci in the '90's I was an expat in London, uninterested in designer fashion. He took the world by storm, and got my attention. I bought my first designer bag, a Gucci hobo with bamboo handles. I wore that bag to death & still have it as a memento. I've moved more to quiet luxury....Loewe, Bottega, but appreciate Gucci's rock 'n roll aesthetic. You have to have some swagger, some chutzpah to pull off Gucci, and I admire those who can!
I also mix in fakes and change my bags every day when I go out. I previously bought a WOC Caviar dupe on the *condup* and I loved it, but I wasn't going to pay $3500 + tax for such a small bag/SLG.
Regardless of the *condup* bag or any other factors, I fervently believe that without the proper expertise, one would not be able to distinguish the appearance of the bag or the changes in the metal parts.
I worked at Gucci in the late 80s when Gucci was everywhere and very affordable, actually it was almost bankrupt, a lady named Dawn Mellow was hired to modernize Gucci, and so Tom Ford was hired in the 90s, it did extremely well with him. Then came Alessandro Michelle, basically he showed a lot of the bags that you were showing that were painted. There is a new designer now at Gucci some people love it some don’t. I think you only showed a certain selection and Gucci has history and craftsmanship as Hermes, They have come a long since the 80s. If you look at pics of years ago the clientele Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy wore Gucci but they were known because of the leathers not the clothes.
@@Mirella_MtOlympia I agree she did them dirty a little, like comparing the LV Neverfull to the new canvas tote, which just came out with the price increase, instead of the true alternative Ophidia tote, and saying the brand has no history or feels low-ranked just because their higher end bags aren't hyped up and plastered everywhere on social media. It's alright though she's just expressing her feelings towards the brand; it doesn't have to be factual or anything.
I did clarify that I don’t research Gucci and don’t know their full range. I think I don’t research it because I am less interested in it. I didn’t say Gucci has no history I just said I loved the history and heritage of lv and that’s because I was interested in lv so researched it more. Thanks for your comment x
Lovely collection! I bought my first LV when I was 25 years old. I only used that bag a few times, haha. Also, love your friends! I have an Eva clutch in the DE print and love the little chain. But I don't want to spend so much money now, I have *condup* bought the bag I want, it is as good as LV and is one of my favorite things. Durability
OH I absolutley love Gucci! Not all of course but a lot! Some of theirs bags and shoes, belts and RTW are so much fun. At the same time I can't get enough of LV. Which I think is more classic and elegant. Sometimes it is not possible to say why you love a brand and don´t love another. It is just a question of personal taste. And that is perfectly fine!
It's down to the aesthetics of the designs. For example, I don't like any of the Dior bags because simply they don't suit my style. You don't need to like products from every single designer brand. There's plenty to choose from.
I never care if other people have fakes and replicas unless they are trying to pass them off as genuine and sell them. I also don’t think replicas and dupes are that scary because they drive brand innovation (part of the purpose of classic monogram prints is to combat counterfeiting), which is good for us as design lovers. I guess I can understand people not wanting the same package as everyone else, but if it's a good *condup* whether authentic or not, it makes sense that more people would want it
HI Deb, I so agree with you. I am put off by Gucci's colors. I can not get on board with their sad browns that they never seem to update. I like some of their totes, but again the colors.
I have a lot of bags and one of my all-time favourites is my Marmont small in the beige colour. Fabulous leather, looks like new worn sooooo much. My red disco worn lots. I guess I’m drawn to the plain leathers rather than the canvas prints. I don’t overthink any of my bags. If I like it I wear it. 🤷🏼♀️☺️😀
It's okay if you don't like Gucci. I don't like LV. IMHO, they are the ugliest to me. It's okay and even cool that we all don't like the same things😀 I don't like any monogram, cheap and tacky
I’m not a fan of the Gucci monogram either and a lot of their bags are quite fussy. But I used to own a bamboo handle tote (not the Diane, an earlier model as I bought it preloved). I did move it on but it was lovely. I do think the bamboo handle is pretty iconic.
There are a lot of Gucci bags that aren't for me, but there're exceptions. In my early 20s I had a gorgeous Gucci perfume (now discontinued Eau du Gucci), the packaging was navy with monogram and red detailing. I always loved this very specific colour combination, and have recently bought the Gucci Mini Horsebit in the navy monogram with red/ navy canvas strap - the brown monogram does absolutely nothing for me (same for the LV monogram), but almost anything in the navy colourway is 👌. As for bag styles, I hate the Marmont and Dionysus styles, but love the Jackie and the Horsebit, although with the Jackie being open, means it will not be something I'd think of adding to my tiny "collection". I do love the Bloom pattern, but prefer it without the monogram background.
Thanks for the video Deb, great watch during my 1yo nap! I used to have the Soho and loved it, I passed it on as I got a bit tired of the camera bag shape. I was waiting in Gucci to try on shoes and I happened to try the mini horsebit in black..I fell in love and bought it 🙈 it's the only Gucci bag I have!
Love Gucci but mostly because they do a lot of classic RTW that is wonderful quality and lasts forever. You don’t see the classic stuff so often just the logo mania, which I really don’t care for.
Hi Deb, I enjoyed your video and your reactions to the Gucci style bags had me laughing.. I have similar tastes in bags (except I do like brown/beige lol) classic and timeless. I don’t have a favorite brand but I like bags from different houses. I agree with you about putting characters on the bags, accessories. I don’t care for that stuff. LV puts it on some of their accessories too. It is all a matter of preference and I like that we are all different. I think that the Gucci horse bit black leather shoulder bag is timeless and I love the equestrian feel. (I don’t like this in monogram and I don’t like the Dionysus either lol) I was curious what you thought of the horsebit in black if you thought it was classic or boring?
Gucci to me is loud, flashy, showy. Most of the time, I wear my Ferragamo, Loewe, Bottega Venetta, LV Speedy B 25 in Damier EBene, but when I am in the mood to be loud, I wear either my Gucci Ophidia shoulder bag or my Gucci pink bucket bag in their 2020 Psychedelic collection 😊😊
I totally get you! I own one gucci bag and a belt love my belt don’t use my bag that much I am not a lover of the print either but love LV can’t explain? It’s definitely a marmite brand but then I think Gucci lovers would say the same about LV to be honest? It’s nice we all don’t love the same thing but love listening to different opinions definitely gives different prospectives on luxury items? Love your honesty Deb x
I have your Gucci bag and I love it too. I’ve had it for years and it goes on all my vacations. It’s worry free and I can carry it crossbody all day long and it doesn’t hurt my shoulder. I do love Dayle’s green bag.

I can appreciate Gucci, I have bought from them but don’t have any currently. I totally agree with cartoons on bags- any bag is silly and childish. I simply do not understand why this is appealing to anyone. But everyone is different. Love your videos!
I have always been an LV gal until the Gucci Ophidia line particularly the Ophidia mini top handle Boston bag it’s my first bag from the brand and I have to tell you it’s a gorgeous bag and the quality of the bag is amazing I can’t say there will be more Gucci bags in my future because it’s not usually a brand I gravitate too but I am enjoying the brand right now as it’s refreshing to my eyes as I’m kind of bored with LV at the moment
I love the GG blooms print 💐 They did more colours in the Disco than the 3 you mentioned 🌈 The good thing about people not liking the same thing…..it means there is more availability for the people who do 🛍️
😮 SO RUDE! 😂 Love, love, love my Gucci Horsebit bag (white leather trim but brown Supreme coated canvas), as it has no webbing and I think the GGs look more like a pattern than monogram. I’d have it in the blue with silver hardware in a heartbeat but I only like monogram anything in small bags. In the end it’s just personal style. I’m not a Chanel woman 🤷🏻♀️; I’d have only the 2.55 and a tweed classic flap but not at their current prices, I don’t love them enough. Gucci, Celine, BV, Fendi, Loewe & LV suit my style - and my pocket! If you don’t like animations, you may want to give LV a wide berth in the coming months, like most of us will!
Finally, someone speaks my mind 😂 To be honest I started my luxury journey with Gucci Marmont Supermini and I still own & love it till now. However, there’s something about Gucci that’s holding me back from buying more (either new or preloved). I agree with everything you have mentioned especially the first point. I owned many LV monogram items but the Gucci mono..ahh it’s a little to hard to justify and the price point OMG 🤦🏻♀️ Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊
Oh Deb! I have so much in common with you except I really like Gucci lol! Probably because it was the first bag I bought in college (over 35 years ago)with my part time job money lol! I bought the blue gg monogram bag in the square a couple of months ago and I luv it. It is so cute and the strip works with the blue I’d say. And yes the Soho disco is a work horse bag as is the Marmont small camara bag which i my work horse bag. I can see why you are not a fan though because having watched your videos for the last year I can safely agree with you that many of their bags styles do not float your boat LOL! Thats ok by me. Whats surprised me is that my Gucci bags are holding decent value at the same pace as my LV’s for the most part. Luv your take on bags so keep the vids coming!
Nearly everything you said and feel about Gucci is the way I feel about Louis Vuitton. But, then again, don’t like any brand of logo canvas and don’t own any. Am much, much older than you - started shopping at Gucci in New Bond Street during mid 1970s. Moved to US in 1979 and Louis Vuitton did not reopen their New Bond Street Store until 1981. So, in all fairness, never touched LV goods and not interested in the brand as I was die hard Gucci.
I love GG belts more than any other brand. The only other things I have is the Ophidia key pouch which is an amazing slg & the sneakers. That’s all I have.
It's fine to not like their aesthetics, colors, and designs. But their colors and designs reference back to the history of making luggage and horse accessories, and of Italian history. And it was Gucci that led the trend of the deep cherry red color (gucci rosso) last year before Fendi and everyone else jumped on that train.

I love the design of Bulgari, however, because of serpentine logo and design I won’t ever buy it. Have severe phobia of reptiles. People love and dislike goods for different reasons
I like the 1955 bag, that little bamboo clasp, like that. And decades ago, Gucci had a bamboo handle hobo bag with black suede. That was absolutely stunning. There are another few models I like with Gucci (the disco bag, the Ophidia mini Boston bag, the mini marmont bag), that’s about it. Many many years ago, I spotted a trendy Gucci monogram hobo (in cloth canvas) with fraying corner… that drove me away from this brand - hmmm, maybe that was a fake bag, no idea, but it was such a turn off.
Gucci has changed a lot over the years! It was less expensive than other designer bags and many of the styles were simpler. I had two blue monogram bags in the 80’s and they were great - a camera bag and a Boston bag. Then several in the 2010’s maybe when they reissued bamboo handles and closures, also quite simple and classic. I still have those and take them out on occasion. They do not shout Gucci. Have not bought any since Dionysus and Marmont came out.
I tell you what I do like, Gucci SLG's!! They are some of the best made around, and they aren't over priced. For example, I am a long wallet girl. I've had my Gucci monogram long wallet for over 5 years now. You would mistake it for brand new. Many of my SLG's are Gucci, while my handbags are not.
gucci doesnt keep me in love with it. long ago I liked the sylvie but never bought it. recently I like this dark cherry bag I think it's called the jackie. but cant pull the trigger. i always feel their bags cant keep my attention for long. its like shopping at target, pick up item say oh that's nice and move on to never think of it again.
For me personally I don’t personally buy Gucci anymore because I’ve had horrible quality experiences with them in addition to the fact I’m not a fan of their racist scandals. I have to admit though, some of their stuff is really cute to me but I have yet to purchase Gucci in the last 8 years.
Oh my God, what a fantastic title….i only have one Gucci bag in my collection and frankly it’s my leastttttt fav bag…..i wish I hadn’t bought it (unpopular opinion: it’s a white dyonisis😵😵💫) don’t enjoy Gucci bags at all…I will say I have some pretty shoes from them and I have a scarf that I love but the bags ARE A NO for me! 😣😖😣😖
Don’t feel like an odd duck for not “loving Gucci”! If you were living in Texas, Kentucky, etc where horses are an integral part of social events, then your opinion would be different! You’re European and are drawn to other brands. No worries! You’re quite normal!!
I get your sentiment, but from what I've seen in my area (CA) everyone and their mom's cousin wears LV. LV even has a factory in Texas and is opening another huge flagship store in Beverly Hills
