Many dogs may love chewing on rawhide bones but we decided that they're no longer worth the risk for ours. Between intestinal blockages, left-behind chemicals from processing, and a lack of nutrients, we just don't think that they're good options for Great Danes anymore.
Furthermore, we found that rawhides caused more cases of diarrhea, which is already something that many Great Dane owners are trying to prevent!

Great article, I'd like to add that cooked bones a very dangerous for dogs. They splinter easily and can cut their mouth. If ingested they can perforate a stomach or bowel and if not caught could easily kill a dog. If you give your dogs bones, they must be raw, plus they like them more.

Walmarts carry different dog products in different parts of the country, and I’ve noticed in “cattle country” you can often find bags with cow hooves, rips, and round bones. I do give my pups these because while they can wear them down very slowly, I’ve yet to see them be able to break, chip or splinter any of them because they are so thick and dense. You would think with all the cattle we eat in this country those could be well stocks all across the land. I’ve thought about asking local butchers...

I love Gus!! She is so pretty……… I am a former owner of two Great Danes. They are great dogs. I really enjoy watching your segments about Gus Our second Great Dane was black and she grew up with my two children, I never had a problem with my dogs around my kids. It was a wonderful time. i've always given calf hooves to my dogs. they don't splinter and come in different sizes depending on the size of your pet. the biggest plus in that they are very durable. one hoof can like 1-3 months, making them very economical. the only down size is that they do have a very foul order when the dog is chewing on them. more suited for outdoor use. my dane and every other dog i have owned, loves them. and they were orginaly suggest suggested to me by my vet as opposed to raw hide bones.

Who is making this rawhide bones ? McDonald ? Nothing better like fresh beef bone. If it has marrow even better. For us it is a great tool to calm down our dog in the evening if this is necessary.

Name any dog that should chew on a rawhide. Our pit bull had diarrhea with rawhide's. We have switched to horns for Ted (Great Dane) and Randall (pit bull). They both really like ostrich and raw.

I don’t feed my Great Dane rottie mix rawhide because they have big mouths and could swallow big pieces of it, and it’s not digestible! Love your Channel 💘 could you do a video on how you get her so well trained with other dogs???

First as a new commentator of your channel, love your channel! Voting for both. Why not cooked bones like pork ribs? What type of raw bone cut should I feed a great dane? Cow, pork, and/or chicken? You mentioned concerns about intestinal blockage when swallowing. Should I ensure the bone is large? I am worried about sharp pieces of broken down bone may injury a dogs internal gi tract? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

Thanks for the kind words and feel free to chime in more often! 😉 Bones that are cooked become dry and brittle and are much more likely to splinter and cause damage when swallowed. Yes, go for bones that are a little larger to accommodate a Danes larger size. Good candidates include turkey necks, chicken backs, lamb ribs, pork trotters, etc...

Coat care. One other issue with rawhide are the Christmas types, dyed red, will stain carpets, cloth and white coats on dogs.

I warn people of rawhides every chance I get so I appreciate you doing this video. But am also a breeder so I don't want anything happening to the babies I bring into this world. I don't know what to vote for?? I have a natural ear girl who always seems to have nasty ears. But this spring Jack and Gypsy will be back in the ring. The need shiny coats. So I vote . . .BOTH! 🤗🤗
