Exactly what I try to tell people. If it's not snow, it's dirt/pollen. If you have the space, put it where you can reach it.

IF you have the space and IF you have a partner who's okay seeing the thing in the backyard. i only have one of the two so I'll be putting 45 panels on the roof. 😄

Yep, plenty of people learn that lesson during a crisis. I keep mine where I can reach them safely.

That is one of several good reasons not to place solar on a roof. For one, most codes require an isolator to be installed per panel. Then there is the already enormous cost of getting a house reroofed. Now add in the expense of taking down all the panels and hardware. Doing the roof job and then having to replace all of the panels and hardware. Plus as this video demonstrates you wouldn't have easy access to remove snow and ice. Further reducing it's performance.

Longer broom. But... for snow and ice, just put a load on the panels. They'll warm up and clear the snow. The shaded cells get hot in summer and warm enough in winter to self-clear, also taking away the dust.

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 by carefully connecting the negative line then the positive line to the load? :) Dude, think. How much does your charge controller draw when the panels are covered? Milliamps and the voltage drop is a couple of volts/panel.

Seems to be the same height as the roof behind, why not mount them to that? Weight issues?

The roof is much higher than the solar panels. The camera angle is deciving. Also I am not a fan of putting holes in a roof, they will eventually leak.

If the house burns down having ground-mounted solar panels has absolutely no benefit. Roof or ground- saving or losing the family’s heirlooms are way more significant than the solar panels.

Who says its powering the entire house, could just be a light backup, could just be powering batteries to charge an electric car. A 100% electric grid replacement is very expensive and you must also account the cost of changing the shingles every 20 years, you have to remove every solar panel on the roof and reinstall them.
