Why I gave up on my dream career... 

Miss you guys.. hope you don’t mind the kinda casual setup, just wanted to get these thoughts out into the world!

I feel like passions are bit like friends. When you stop seeing them, your relationship may feel a bit off after some time. But if you get back at it, it might live up again as well.

I don't think you gave up your dream career. Taking puctures or making videos is a way to tell a story. It seems like your goal never was to be a photographer, rather you wanted to tell storys somehow. You focused more on the tool than the actual goal. So for me, you haven't given up anything at all. Rather, you've realized that taking pictures is not your way of telling stories.

This is where I am now, and I’ve considered it lack of motivation lately, but there’s always some deeper feeling like a part is missing. This video was helpful for me to intentionally spend time thinking about what that might be. Also, I wish I was this self aware 10 years ago! Haha

I love that ending line of "maybe I'll take some pictures along the way." I've realized you can move on and still inact a cumulative effect. You don't have to amputate a part of yourself--a part of your creativity--to give life to another. Explore something, and keep it in your tool belt as you're working with another in your hands. Haven't watched, or at least been suggested, your videos in a while, but glad I checked my subscriptions page.

I think there's going to be a healthy shift this century from 'career' to 'careers'. People are multidimensional, it's nice to explore our gamut. Sure it's nice to be a master of something, but once you've mastered it, technically there's no more growth, and you stagnate and stagnation is a synonym for death. "Jack of all trades is a master of none" people would echo, worrying about mediocre efforts, not knowing they only ever heard half of the idiom, "Jack of all trades is a master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one." You don't have to master something for it to be engaging, you just have to do it sincerely. My favourite photographers are actually Mums and Dads in the hey day of colour photography. They're not masters of photography, but they captured life sincerely. Of course there's the forced "say cheese" photos, but there's also genuine life documented.

I needed this video so bad. I’ve always been terrified of confining myself into a specific artistic medium. Im just here to create. These past 6 months, I’ve completely transformed my fitness and have found a genuine love and passion for not only evolving physically, but mentally as well. I still love filmmaking, but this is the further encouragement I needed that it’s okay to expand and share other aspects of myself that go outside of my career. Absolutely love the transparency here man 🙌🏼❤️

I believe that whatever we’re truly passionate about will come back to us at some point - even if we push it aside for a period of time to do something else. Like you said, the best thing to do is not get caught up with “our path”, because our circumstances change and this can make it seem like we’re going in the wrong direction - but things should eventually pan out due to our passions taking precedence... Love the honesty, by the way

I feel the SAME, which is why I go back packing and surfing to get away from video and design work. You gotta have an “art” hobby that’s for you only and not to share with others

I've learned that there's something in me that transcends the medium. I'm still not able to articulate it 100%, but at my heart I'm a creator. Whether it's building with Lego, programming an app, or crafting a video, I love to make a vision that previously existed only in my mind take shape in a tangible form. I've been set on video for some time, but even if that fades, I will always find a way to create, no matter the job, no matter the medium.

I feel very much like this at the moment. Started Photography in 2020 and consumed with it. But there's a niggling voice in my head telling me to switch to video to tell stories....I'm beginning to listen to that voice

I just believe starting something is really important cus the journey helps you discover new passions along the way . A lot of creatives on RU-vid started with vlogs or some type of content, now they are musicians or professional fighters and so on .

This was so cool and inspiring, the same thing happened to me last year after the pandemic. I reflected an realized that I'm done with being a professional photographer. And that's when I quit my dream passion in just 2 years of living it. Loved the format, can you please also tell me how did you record the audio wirelessly? I guess you had your attached to an external recorder? But I didn't see the recorder 😅

Since I’ve been doing RU-vid , I’ve noticed I’ve been struggling mentally more and more . At least you’re American G . People hear an Australian accent and automatically switch off . It’s impossible to win . Im starting to re think this whole thing . Im the happiest at my 9-5 .
