It would seem that it ended up being both a blessing and a curse, that he wound up on Deathwish over Baker, and although the Deathwish crew seem to be a bit more skating oriented, as opposed to the grime of Baker boys.Overall, I think he had the type of personality to have been a good fit on Baker, regardless of how devastating of an impact it may have had on his skating and lifestyle, especially during the Baker boy hayday, I can see a parallel universe in which Moose didn't wind up walking in the same shoes he's currently stompin'
Man I remember watching Moose when I was in high school and being a huge fan. Sucks to hear what’s happened. Seems like a very genuine dude and I hope things pop off for him fr. Thanks for doing this video bro it was dope to see
You and Moose click so well together! Please do more videos with him. Whenever I was younger, Moose was my favorite skater for the longest. His style and trick selection was so good. I'm glad to see him putting himself out there again.
What a great watch, and Moose is such a good dude. He did not get a fair share. He had the best part in the Deathwish video, only to get cut from their team a year or two later. Can’t imagine how much more he would have done with them if they kept him on and he stayed on that trajectory
It's good to see him back skating. Moose's first game of skate in BATB against PJ Ladd is one of the greatest games ever. Even PJ was blown away how good he was.
Congrats on being Sober man. Mad respect. I have 6 years of sobriety under my belt from a very bad opiate addiction and have nothing but respect and understanding for recovering addicts.
I use to skate for City Stars a long time ago and totally destroyed my knee got hooked on pain killers cause I was being fed them like candy, long story short I went to prison and pissed away a skate career, but I also feel like the industry turned their back on me somewhat, it’s a cold world, I’d love to share my story on your channel I still skate for fun. Love watching the videos!
You were a beast man, I still remember many of your old parts/features etc. I hear the tough path and legal trouble.. The other side is a brand new life though, which you may be experiencing. I would love to hear your deep dive on the channel or 9 club, stay good
Salute JC dude your part in Street Cinema was one of my favorites. I was a huge fan of City Stars, I became a even bigger fan when I found out you, Mikey and Ryan Denman was into Hondas at one point 😆 b16 swaps and all
moose is chill af he came to my local park in maine bout 2 summers ago, he started skating the big stair and rail and my and my friend asked if we could skate it with him and we was super cool we took turnss back and forth and he was hyped to have us skating with him he even complimented me i nollied the 3 flat 3 first try; super down to earth normal guy
7:16 So true, I grew up skating 2004 - 2009 era. Nobody was fighting for clips. Just went all around the city with friends to skate anything we could. It was like an adventure every time. And no time felt the same. Like something unique happened each time, whether a new trick, new spot or stupid antics. Was a great feeling.
I hope this video will help Moose get a lot of subscribers and help him get his youtube going! He is an insane skater and I have also know him since his legendary bust or bail 17 stair backside 360. He was WAY ahead of his time!
The irony of turning down the team accommodations to avoid drinking too much and then getting booted and ending up drinking anyways… props to Moose for getting through it all and coming back strong.
When I was a new skater as a kid at cam park, moose saw my razor tailed board and went to his trunk and got me a different hand me down board with a better tail. On top of that he worked at the local skate shop and Whenever I would buy a new board he would put grip on it and transfer the trucks for me Solid guy
John, I think moving back to Cali was a great idea for what you do and your lifestyle. Your skating seems to be getting more consistent, and generally you seem happier both on and off your board. I've noticed your videos have consisted of quite a bit more skating than usual as well, which further backs up my overall theory on the habitat relocation being the precursor for it. Great shit dude!
Moose and Furby were the most talented skaters on deathwish. I have a feeling that Greco kicked them out because he and ellington were more friends with neen, jon dickson, etc. And furby and moose were better skaters.
It’s funny they got rid of all the guys that the brand image was built on. Yes it was Ellington and Greco company but those dudes were repping what the brand wanted to be just by being themselves. Greco side project was a much better fit, more creative and reflected himself more.
I always liked the vibe of the brand, and I loved Jimmy Carlin and Moose, but the one mystery board I had as a kid was super thick and heavy and lacked pop. I remember having a hard time kickflipping over a cinder block but did it every try on my friends setup
@@tbvolcomskater Hmm, wonder what board it was? I used to rock the Mystery Lopez board, and I had no issues with double flips. My double flips required a lot of pop lol
yo John, I gotta say, you really dialed in your skill in the last few years outside of California. I love that now you've come back and you're like way better then you were last time. It's a storm brewing!
Many of my friends and coworkers from the Ventura/Oxnard area would agree that this dude is a creep with underage girls and that’s why he got kicked off
Moose came around the Oxnard skatepark a lot when I was growing up, was a huge inspiration to us all. Remember playing games of skate with him, he basically taught me all the switch tricks I know. Glad he’s back and still killing it!
Yooo this video was crazy, first the guy with the huge board bro who is that?? 😂 then Moose revealing that he skates his board backwards. Loved the jazzy stair session
First time I saw him was at Bust or Bail. That 360 blew everyones mind at the time. He took the impact so easily, Hollywood High looks like he did it down a curb lmao. The Santa Monica triple set is longer than most too, NOBODY was gonna do a nollie frontside flip down that thing besides him. And they are allowed to be a little mob 😂 when that big. So stoked that he's on Mystery. Cant imagine other riders not getting along with Moose, thats some bs.
i was promoting a cannabis brand called roach, we did various social media stuff and had an event where he saved the day. Moose is a really good dude and great to work with @boogatikasino9978
What it seems like to me is that Moose didn’t really fit into the baker/deathwish clique, and they used the moving situation as more of an excuse to cut him loose. Although he may have been cool with everyone, companies like these are very specific in who they want riding for them. They not only have to rip it, but also have to gel into the dynamics of the team.
I had a huge drug/drinking problem. Been clean for a few years now, and I can totally relate to him not wanting to even be around that type of scene. Or even be tempted by it. I can go years without drinking now, but If I see someone doing it, it makes it incredibly hard not to want to. Honestly, I'd rather be kicked from a team than be forced to be around those types of things. It makes it worse that I try not to be that guy who got clean and now tells everyone that they can't drink or use around me. So I basically just avoid people entirely that are doing it.
This story does not add up…. Ellington and Reynolds’s were getting sober around the time he was kicked off…he did not get kicked off for “ not partying hard enough” its clearly cause ppl did not get along with him for other reasons
back smith kickflip out, beautiful! and Moose, so good, great to have an update on him, seems not so fun the way things went down, but he seems happy and positive overall, nice to see, thank you!
Looking back at skateboarding from a child to today, man I was an idiot not in a sense of not understand the tricks but understanding theres so much more I could not see with the flick of the foot or pop of the board to make the tricks happen! :) Like the amount of skill to really make these happens on top of confidence to make them happen if they are scary. I seen it like a cartoon when I was a child now I see it in graphic detail but not perfect where I could do it.
Thank you to John and Moose! So refreshing man and I've always wished for insight on what happened. I still feel like he could've had last part in The Deathwish Video. Please make a similar video with Furby sometime, if he's ever around and willing!
I hurt my hip really bad in a car accident and now I can't skate much anymore. Thanks for making these videos. Makes me feel like I still can for 15 mins.
So i live here in oxnard, and i recently saw Moose skating around close to where i work,i was too shy to ask for a picture or smn but it was rad to see him there still going strong!
I checked out of skateboarding a couple years ago and was just blown away by moose. Cool to see him back in the game, even though I didn’t realize he left
man you are a really good interviewer hill... you were asking all the good questions w/o making him uncomfortable it gave the interview a good vibe... you should do this more specially if its with someone you admire
Yeah this video was so good, the vibe and tempo were perfect. The little cut ins of John talking were done really well and added a lot to the video. The interview was super casual but deep and the smith kickflip was mmmmm.
17:50 just what i needed to hear. I've had some bad luck these last few years. I kept drinking heavily throughout all the BS. I just want to go back to my old self. Seeing him happy and picking up where he left off sure is motivating.
thanks so much for this video, did not know who moose was but now i am definitly going to support in watchin his videos! i also stoped skating fro around 7 years and i barely am trying to skate again!!!
