We have an exact copy of the Seagram building in my city and I didn't even know it. Not ugly, just an ordinary building serving its purpose, but works best as a backdrop to the more unique building next to it.

I consider Mies the greatest criminal of the 20th century. He designed buildings that required no craftmanship. Before Mies, builders would use terrra cotta, brickwork, Iron and millwork. There were large communities of craftsmen, raising families and going to church. They're all gone. Less (skilled craftsmen) is More (money for the builder). Follow the money. If I want to build a building, why should I make it nice? Just glue windows on a frame and convince people that it's beautiful. They're not.
