I too was never taught about finances. I had to teach myself. I also try to educate people about it. Whenever I can. Thank you i learned something new today about mortgage payments and banking.

To whom much is given, much is required. You got this.

Pay one extra payment a year, cut a 30 yr mortgage to 15year paid in full.

I am ashamed that I have struggled my whole adult life to pay my rent and at the age of 54 I'm finally seeing that owning could and should be a goal I can attain. I'm so grateful that you are sharing your family's struggles with the rest of us. I have wallowed in the gloom of the loss of my child, mother, brother father stepdad and my first husband for too many years I feel like the Phoenix coming out the ashes. Cancer didnt kill me lupus cant keep me down and that man I married at 25 who had 4 children outside of me wont keep me down I feel almost high, so thank you. You dont know what you do for people so thank you

Being successful is not going to do you any good if you're dead from a heart attack or stroke due to stress. The number one thing you must do is to take care of yourself. That means eating right, getting enough rest and taking the time to chill. I have all the faith in the world that you will accomplish your goals, but again, and I cannot stress this enough, in order to do that, you must maintain your physical and mental health and well being. I'm glad to hear you're going to do a family cruise. Yes, the $$$ could have been placed on the mortgage, but precious memories with your wife and kids outweigh that. There are plenty of online calculators that will tell you how much extra you will need to apply to your principal in order to pay off the mortgage within a specified time frame. That's how I was able to pay off my home in 10 years, and trust - what a feeling! You'll get what you want when you want it, Linwood. Just take time to enjoy the journey and hey - don't worry about those grey hairs. They make you look distinguished, LOL! Even though you are a psychotic nut (jk), you are such a good man who always looks out for our education. Not just with hair and beauty, but life. The things we learned when we bought our house, no one told us bc family never had bought a house. Every house had been inherited, so there were no lessons to pass on. Black people are just worried about trying to survive and provide, so as we learn, we have to pass that knowledge on. We went with a 15 yr mortgage and we lucked out, our interest is level throughout the payment process. Our insurance is more than our house payment. HAHA my husband was my 'rebound' and I was his 'rebound'. We knew what we wanted. Family is so important. Often times most people forget to slow down and focus on their relationships and families. I know in 26 yrs I'm guilty of it. You do what you gotta do to take care of you and your family. I remember being 16 and complaining I wanted money and my mom said no there was no money. Of course I did the whiny 16 yr old thing Instead of grounding me or knocking me into the next week for lipping off, my mom said fine here's the checkbook, the bills and the money coming in. You sit down do the bills, write out a budget and the grocery/meal planning for 3 months. I got frugal real quick after that. I did it to my 25 yr old when he was 15 and wanted a new game system and I said no. Now he's greedy and hoards his money.

This is like table tea, I'm crying laughing on this snowy, icy day. I needed a good tickle as I slide into work today. You said it and you said it right, but it's the way you say it, real and raw, love it. hahah hahaha. Far as finances I'm with you, I handle it coming from my mom and pop. My sister who was in finance helped all us little ones and I held to that, bad credit is the worst thing for black people and it only takes a minute to get all caught up in it. We need to think quietly and out loud when it comes to our finances because it will and can affect everything you do and breath as an adult.

Man, you are preaching to the choir! I tried to open a business account a few weeks ago, and am going through the same thing! I have a meeting with someone at the SBDC tomorrow and there is so much to ask and do. I am trying to be sure I have all my info together so I can open the account, and get a new CPA that knows business for real for real! The struggle - setting up websites, developing new products, the next thing, the next thing... ugh! Yes, I feel you! And all while trying to straighten up credit and get out of debt! Keep pushing through - we've got this!

Im a small business owner also. Lots of stress can be eliminated using ADP Payroll, they handle filings, drafts, all of payroll, etc, and they also have an import/export section that you can connect your accountant to. Makes end of the year easier and no worries. You also get a rep will call and remind you to put your numbers in or they'll take them over the phone. Then checks are delivered for payroll on time each week. They're a life saver for me!

I want, when I want, how I want, why I want, where I want or I don't want at all. Lolzz I completely understand you linwood. This is me to the T. Thank you for the update, I appreciate the raw honesty. I am working on a business and am learning all the parts that go into it. Especially the process of a business bank account vs a personal checking. Applying for a DBA, Registering your business with the state/county. Staying on your books, don't set it and forget it. Lastly filling taxes is a headache, transitioning from paying yourself to multiple employees. The adulting as a soloprenuer is real af. I couldn't have said it better myself, finances is not something learned at home. Its one if those things that is learned as you go. The how to invest, learning tools needed to invest or be educated on finances should also be taught in schools.

Keep that great sense of humor & your positive output. You will definitely get through this.

This was a great video. It’s good to hear that you decided to take on an assistant, don’t want to stretch yourself thin. I love that you discussed finances and being goal oriented. We as black people don’t always have discussions about finances and money management and especially legacy building. Personally I think they need to add another subject called “Life Skills” and offer various courses that will actually prepare people for real life and offer it to students K-12. Thank you again for sharing what you know about mortgage payments . I don’t own a home YET but I always like to stay ahead of the game.

I also wasn't taught about finances. The biggest headache and blessing for me was having to go through bankruptcy. Not because credit cards or nothing like that but student loans. Going through that I absolutely had to educated myself because I said ain't no way in hell will I be making the same mistake twice. I amazoned my butt off finding books about credit and finances. Fixed my credit myself. Yes. The next step is more finance learning and learning more about buying a home, other investments and learning to do taxes.

Gray hair [life is real, aging happens, things change] you can rock the gray hair and hopefully inspire others along the way. R&R {glad to hear about the vacation, work hard, play hard); that's why I'm not in the business, yet I would like to be or want to learn/be involved in the business, because I saw my mother work so hard, on her feet started working from about 7am to sometimes 1am (usually on the weekends or any given day). I just didn't think I could do that, as a child/young person I wanted to live my life. So, I grew up in the industry, my mother had her own salon...it was fun. I went to shows and one time John Amico pick me out of the group to style my hair, that was exciting. With that in mind...and with all your energy it looks to me that your vision maybe be? to start your own school(s) and or training programs nationally or internationally, you're already doing that online. I enjoy learning and you share a lot about hair care, my mother was always focused on hair care, also enjoy you sharing about your chemical knowledge. Hope this help...keep professional and business content separate from personal content. I enjoy all your content however I think it would help grow and develop your channel if you separated your content...business glam fam and personal glam fam content all within your same channel (maybe you do that any way, I'm not sure).
